My fiancé and I rescued a Great Pyrenees last year who had spent her life outside in a courtyard. She was never socialized with other animals, which led to some pretty serious aggression anytime one was encountered. She weighs 100 pounds and is much stronger than I am, and it caused very high levels of anxiety and stress for me. I stopped wanting to walk her, in fear that someone with a dog would pass by and I wouldn't be able to maintain her. She was restless without being walked, so she terrorized anyone who walked by our yard, would bite dogs through the fence, and refused to listen to us when called. When we took her to meet my parents new puppies, I thought for sure they wouldn't have survived had my fiancé not been there to control her. Our turning point was when our landlord told us he wanted to get his family a puppy. We share a yard and feared an eviction if the dogs couldn't get along. After desperately searching for someone who could help us, we stumbled upon Anthony's reviews! Our saving grace! Harlow spent a week at Camp Canine in training with him, and I can honestly say it was the best money we have ever spent. She had been kicked out of other places in town, so we both spent our days expecting them to call us and say it wasn't working out. With continued practice, Harlow can now be walked off leash, listens when we call her, stays when asked, and plays with other dogs. She sure does love her new puppy next door, and all of the credit goes to Anthony! We cannot thank him or recommend him enough!

This is only after 2 sessions. Before this, ANY food available was eaten immediately & he'd growl or possibly bite if you got in the way!

Anthony has come to train my dog Harvey 5 times now. He also took Harvey for the whole day on an adventure around town one weekend. I can honestly say my dog has already transformed to be so much better behaved than I could've expected in just 3 months. At the time I found Anthony, I had hit my breaking point with my dogs possession/food aggression (and general naughty behavior) and knew it was time for a change. I have a husky/poodle mix rescued from a kill shelter in LA, so it's hard to know his past or why he is this way, and I really didn't feel I could train him without professional help. Anthony came into our lives, and by only the second training session, we could leave food all over the ground and Harvey wouldn't go near it unless we told him he could. Even if we left him alone in the room with the special treat on the ground, we'd come back minutes later and it's still there (and leaves treats spread all over across his arms!). That alone was enough for me to feel finally more comfortable and trusting of Harvey when it came to his food aggression. It's still a work in progress but I work with him regularly so that when Anthony comes we can work on next steps. As I mentioned, Anthony also touched on Harvey's other naughty behaviors. We've worked on having him not bark at people/dogs on walks (already done after one week), sitting still inside the house while the door is open (already done in one week), pulling at Harvey's fur/tail without a negative reaction (working on currently), and Harvey staying in place outside without a leash while we walk away and out of sight (working on currently). My favorite part about Anthony's training is that he really is training you, the owner, so that every day you can continue to train your dog. He uses human analogies to help you to understand why a dog's behavior is the way it is. Anthony has a calm but firm demeanor when training that my dog responds to so well, he knows immediately when Anthony walks in the door. Anthony gives you all the tools you need to improve your dog's behavior and is a very kind person. I absolutely recommend Anthony!

Where do I even begin! The summer of 2015 was not a good time for my new Akita and family. After bringing our dog along on a summer trip we had an incident where my Akita had a level of aggression with our 7 year old. Not a bite but teeth did come out. My husband then said we need to get rid of the dog immediately. I dropped her off with Anthony in hopes she could get trained but also following my husbands wishes for them to find her a new home. Our dog stayed with Anthony and during that time I would pick her up and hike with her I missed her terribly. Anthony would counsel my husband and I many occasions about what to do with the dog as were not successful at finding her a new home. Anthony came to our house on several occasions to work with the dog and my children. After about two months we decided to try Our dog back in our home. The dog we brought home november2015 is not the same dog we dropped off with Anthony in August 2015 occasionally I still bring her in for weekly visits (Reminders) but that hasn't even been necessary as of late. I think I just take her in because I love Anthony so much and it's nice to see him. I have been needing to put a video together of my kids climbing on top of our dog and wrestling with her never possible before Anthony was in the picture. I can't say enough about him. He gave our dog a second chance and she is the heart of Our family.. Thank you for giving us our dog back Anthony!!

Unlike others, Joan uses the latest in techniques -- based on research about how dogs' brains really work and what works. What's best is that when you're using the techniques and training from Joan, the training itself IMPROVES the quality of your relationship with your dog (in addition to giving him/her better behavior or manners). We had used another trainer in the SBA area one time and in fact we asked her to leave early because the aversive techniques she was encouraging me to use on my sweet puppy were decreasing his trust in me. It's a lot of work to repair frayed trust. Much better to not lose it. We got HUGE value for our money from our session with Joan this afternoon. She made the training fun and easy -- with lots of repetition so I can remember. Her manner with dogs and people alike is warm and encouraging -- with an emphasis on positive reinforcement. We'll use her again and encourage you to do the same if you're looking for changes in your dog's behavior.

I admitted that my dog needed some help in these areas, and thought it would be a fun activity with my dog. I was right! Not only did my dog enjoy the class, she learned some new GOOD behaviors! And if I'm truthful, so did I. The way that Joan explains things in class is excellent. You really get what she's trying to convey because she uses metaphors that we humans understand to explain what the dog is thinking and/or doing. She also gives great handouts for us to take away so we can practice at home, which is the key, of course. I'll definitely be looking forward to more of her workshops, and even hire her for some individual training.

I cannot begin to explain the amount of relief from anxiety training my dogs with Ricky has brought me. No amount of therapy could touch how I felt previously. I have learned patience, clear communication (with my dogs), and appreciation of the minds ability to change after years and years of ingrained unwanted behaviors. Ricky does not sell a one size fits all package - each of my dogs are VERY different, and while the fundamental approaches and concepts in training are the same - the method and timing in which we applied and reinforced these were vastly different. Ricky is able to connect with two leggers and four leggers alike - he gives clear feedback to dogs and human and uses metaphors that we humans understand (driving the speed limit and getting speeding tickets haha) on how the concepts of his approach effects dog behavior. I couldn't be happier. I am humble and I know I need to continue management (and one of my dogs I am holding to higher standard so we are going to continue our own sessions based on what I have learned) but my dogs are completely different. I'm getting complimented by family, friends, and people on walks - impressed with how well behaved my dogs are. I smile and tell them "thank you it's lots of continued hard work" and move along. This morning in particular we walked during trash pick up, had lots of people distractions, and both dogs stayed heeled and attentive to me on their separate walks. Do not hesitate to consider Ricky for your training needs. Also, if you feel alone with your dogs behavior - please know you are anything but alone. The fact you are looking at reviews for dog trainers is a clear indicator that you want the best for your dog and intend to give them them best. :)

I looked for a place similar to his daycare where we are from and decided to give Dioji a try. Check-in and wellness check was great; he seemed to enjoy the staff and I did too. At pick-up on his trial day, it was explained to me there was an "accident" and another dog was let into the daycare area with canine HPV (dog warts) and were not examined properly so my dog "might have been exposed." Turns out he definitely was exposed and then got the very contagious wart on his mouth which ruined Christmas and New Years plans because when you have it, you shouldn't be around other dogs. Of course Dioji couldn't possibly be expected to help with the situation. He has a couple more visits in late winter after the wart fell off and he was no longer contagious himself. The visits were fine, though he didn't get photo report cards like they promise. Fast forward to two weeks ago, another "accident." I dropped him off in the afternoon for a half day. He was there for less than an hour and I got a phone call that he threw up but they did not know why. They believed that he may have just been too hot so they separated him. I told them to call me back if he did not bounce back and I would come pick him up. They did not call back so I assumed he was fine. When I picked him up at the end of the day, the person at the desk went back to get him and gave no indication that there was a problem. Then another different staff person came to greet me and tell me that my dog was "maybe" stung by a bee, and "had a little allergic reaction" but they looked for the stinger and couldn't find it. How do you find a bee stinger in a brown dogs fur?! My dog comes around the corner and looked like Thing from Fantastic Four, clearly shaken up. They also gave him Benadryl but didn't know how much. One person said the reaction had just happened, one said maybe it happened a while ago when he threw up. He was clearly having an anaphylaxis reaction, and I was not called or told until I came to pick him up. I called the vet immediately to get their advice, and they told me to call the daycare back to find out how much Benadryl he was given so I could monitor his care. Magically the staff now knew how much and then I got another (third) story about what or how it happened. Let me be clear: I do not blame them for a bee getting into the park. This review is purely based on the care or lack there of in a serious situation and that the stories kept changing. On top of that, I was charged for a full day that day instead of a half day (timestamp in 1:18 pm and timestamp out 5:17 = 3:59) based on my account receipt. Four hours or less is a half day. There are never "adults" there to talk to about what happens if there is an issue; it is all college age kids working part time jobs. In both of my situations, no one would take ownership over what happened and they have no idea what to say when confronted in person or on the phone. I'm not going back to Dioji, I'll try other options. FWIW, the 2 stars are because there has been staff person who has been great to talk to (Jake maybe?) and because of their flexible hours, multiple locations and toy/food options available.

The facilities are spacious and perfectly clean with zero odor. All the personnel were happy and friendly, as were the dogs. We were skeptical at first when they said they would put Bruce in a group with older, mellower dogs. When we returned, they said he did great and even made some friends. My wife and I were both shocked and pleased. Ruff Ranch was on our way to a Northern California Thanksgiving stay. He boarded for 3 nights and we included the pre-pickup bath. They also offer obedience training, which I believe is how they can so quickly tailor an optimal setting and experience for your dog, and get them adjusted and safe.
