Healthy Pet is a hidden gem for pet food and treats! I have to keep my fur kids on a special diet to prevent UTI's, and there are only a few stores in town that actually carry the raw coated kibble that I purchase. Healthy Pet has a 10# bag for almost the same price that Amazon sells a 3.5# bag...and much better pricing than the other two stores in town that sell it. To make this an even better experience, I'd like to give a shout out to Dave who has helped me both times I've been in. He is a genuinely nice and helpful dude! First time visiting since I moved into the area! What a great find! Good selection of pet food, toys, and supplements. They have some top kibble brands - Open Farm (the most transparent brand IMO), Orijen, Taste of the Wild, Stella & Chewy's, etc. If you are a raw feeder like me, they do have commercial raw brands (both frozen and freeze dried) like Primal, Stella & Chewy's, Instinct Raw, K9 Natural (I only saw freeze dried toppers for this brand though). I was VERY happy to find they also sell Answer's Raw - I highly recommend this brand as the most well-sourced frozen raw dog food. When I went to the store today, they only had Answer's raw goat milk formula (which I'll be buying once I'm out). However, they are able to order anything for you on Thursdays. Though some items are a little overpriced, Rene the owner said they will match any lower price! Great customer service. read more

Does this place really not have a review yet? By far the most knowledgeable pet store I've found in Santa Barbara, not to mention the most laidback. There is always someone there to answer my questions (which are random...I am way too involved in my dog's eating habits). The only place to get raw food for your pet in this town, not to mention the only place to get good advice about your pet when asked for. My favorite pet shop in town...they're friendly and around if you need them, but don't expect them to crowd you if you're just poking around. I like that. read more

Great selection! I go here for stuff I can't find anywhere else, including some of the latest new products by some of the best pet food companies out there. It's a small shop, but they manage to fit a huge selection of five-star dog foods, and every food they carry is super high quality. My dog has food allergies, and they are genuinely interested in helping me find foods and treats that he can eat. They also have some hard-to-find products, most notably the Sense-ation Harness. Nobody else in town seems to carry this more ergonomic alternative to the EasyWalk harness. The aisles are understandably narrow, but the place is well-organized and always clean. Park in back and walk in the back door, there is no parking on State Street. read more

Been going here since they were Pet Barn, parking lot sign still has the old name in fact. A bit pricey on some items yet inexpensive on others, I go here for hard to find items like my dachshund's loop leash. Also great for locally made items and helpful staff. Yes they are a bit arrogant sometimes but honestly they have the right to be. Even when dealing with an employee with attitude they still help me find what I need. If they don't have it they usually can recommend someone that should. This is what shopping local is all about. read more

I spent most of my day today crawling the city of Santa Barbara desperately searching for young rat food. Beginning downtown, I went to every single pet store that came up on my maps, and while none of them had young rat food, only one store even had adult rat food. I was beginning to lose hope when I walked into Healthy Pet. Not only did they carry multiple brands of rat food, but they had food suitable for the still-developing digestive systems of my rats. Locally owned by two brothers. This place is always fully stocked with the best food for your pet. I get the top of the line kibble called Origen's that I researched was some of the best stuff for my little pug. Also they have dog toys without all the fluffy interior so it doesn't get everywhere after my dog mauls it. They have freezers by the checkout that are full of raw meat which I get on occasion. That is the very best food for dogs but it's pricier. I usually mix it with her flea medicine. This place is great but I mainly go here to support local business. read more

I've been going to these guys for about a year now for cat food, and I love them. They carry a broad array of healthy pet foods and toys--a lot of the kinds recommended by vets. The two guys who work here are friendly, knowledgeable, and laid back. They'll greet you upon entering and ask you need help but will also let you browse and wander without crowding you, as the other reviewer said. They have a program for returning customers (something like buy 10 bags of dry food get one free, etc.) which is also great for loyal shoppers. read more
