I am so disappointed in the customer service here. So disappointed I won't be back. I made a purchase of 2 brushing gloves in June. One for my indoor cat and one for the homeless cat that adopted me. One liked it the other ran from it. They wouldn't return due to Covid and I understood that policy. I held on to the glove and receipt. At my last purchase time I asked the cashier if they were taking returns yet and he said yes. A week ago I attempted to return and was told no. The manager came to inform me that the window of returns had closed. Why didn't the cashier tell me that when questioned? It's not the dollar amount, it's the principle. This 2020 hasn't been hard enough that you can't be flexible over a return? Brand new, had a receipt. I informed the manager that they are not the only pet supply in this city and I wouldn't be back. I ran into my sweet UPS driver on my way out. Told him about it and that my cat ran from it. His friend recently rescued a chihuahua. I hope she enjoys it read more

Today I went to Petco in La Mesa to get cat food. There were three lanes open. All of the employees had their back to the line. Each line I only had one person in it. I waited 5 minutes before I walked out. One was just chit-chatting away and the others acted like they didn't know what they were doing. Don't go to the store very poor customer service# read more

My wife and I live coming to this location. The staff here are very friendly especially their grooming department. Taylor and the rest of the team are always friendly and professional and really work with you and your furkids. Came into petco for my monthly doggie visit to get dog food. I was welcomed and felt welcomed into the store by Michael! When I was ready to check out Michael let me know that I had three open accounts with my number. He quickly and professionally guided me through the process to merge all the accounts to one. That was really knowledgeable and nice of him! I hope he gets recognized by management. Thank you Michael for the great customer service. I am a happy customer and my doggo appreciates it to! So I took my dog to get a bath and her nails cut and when I picked her up I noticed (after I got in my car and had her in my lap) that her paw was bleeding pretty bad, so I took her back in the store and the grooming employee fixed the problem and cleaned her up. After the blood was gone I could notice that she cut her nail way,way,way to short!! When I got home I had her in a towel in my lap because the lady said not to let her walk on it, then I smelled pee.. All four paws were covered in the smell of pee!! Hmmm... I was looking for a Christmas present for my daughter. I didn't see any snakes in stock so I asked a worker (older female) if it's possible to check stock in other locations... smart ass tells me if you look in the app it would tell you I did check on line first but there was no information... she finds this out and tells me "I would have to call each store to see what they have in stock" I guess that's too much to ask, because she didn't even bother. It must've been more trouble for her to make phone calls than for me to drive from store to store. I did call other locations myself and found one in El Cajon. Seems like a normal petco to me. If I have a question I get helped, they have shots available for your pets. Never had any issues.

Called to get my dog's nails clip. Asked me the age and when I told who ever it was a senior dog, whos long nails are slipping on the wood floors was told, "we don't service dogs over 10". So Petco, who sell things for all animals, has a policy to not service in the groom world senior dogs. I will certainly pass the word to anyone and everyone that not to do business with a company that discriminates vs senior dogs. I asked the guy how old he was, "22" and I told him I hope he never needs any help when he get's a bit older. DIsgusted that Petco has hired and allowed this policy to be part of their company. We've been going to Petco for years and loved how good groomer Giovanni was with us & our dogs. Ever since he left a couple months ago it's gone waaaay downhill. Today being the worst. I brought both my dogs in at 11am and politely asked if they could be done by 2-2:15. Trina T. hesitated and said she'll try. So me being a flexible understanding person I said great and worst case if you can't do both haircuts she could skip Posie's. All good until I had to come rushing back after talking to my spouse she told me she thought Posie may have a bad ear infection. I called ahead and strangely was told just to pick up both my dogs. Once there Trina was rude told me basically it was all too much of a big deal with my request to have them done within 3 hrs and that she had been rushing. No real care or concern of the reason why I was rushing back only concerned about her stress level as her manager explained she's overbooked and stressed. NOT my problem they run their business so poorly &/or she can't handle her job. She reluctantly agreed to keep Luna and did just an ok job. More appalling was I later found out after my spouse picked Luna up that Trina did notice Posies ears were bad yet didn't tell us stating she wasn't sure what it was!! She apparently "profusely apologized" weirdly emphasizing how much she likes her job! Clearly won't be bringing any of our dogs back!! You should think twice too!! read more

Do not take your pet here for grooming! This review should truly be 0 stars for their horrid customer service! We recently had our dog groomed at Petco, when we picked him up his hair was cut extremely short, but we didn't make a fuss since we knew it would eventually grow back. We even gave the groomer a $5 tip for his effort. When we got home we noticed our dog wouldn't stop licking his groin area. Our dog couldn't walk straight and was obviously in pain. We noticed the groomer had cut our dog's hair by his testicles all the way down to his skin. The skin was extremely red and puffy. Our dog wouldn't stop licking the area, further aggravating it. The next day, we took our dog back to Petco and asked to speak to the manager. I informed the (MOD) Chad of the situation with our dog. He looked at our dog and said, "It's not that bad...I've seen worse." In which, I replied could we get him some ointment and perhaps a cone so he doesn't further aggravate the area. Chad shrugged his shoulders, didn't say anything, walked to the ointment oil and picked out the cheapest ointment oil he could find. He passed by the protective cones and I asked again, "If we could get one?" He deeply shrugged and sighed and returned to go get one. We walked back to our dog and sprayed some ointment oil on the aggravated area. My dog licked it off and Chad said sarcastically, "Fine I guess you can have the protective cone." His intention was only to give us the cone and I later replied, "Well can we have both?" He said, "Well you saw that the ointment oil didn't work." I said well it may work if we have the cone on him since it'll prevent him from further aggravating the area. Chad replied, "NO I can only give you the cone it's $12!" I asked, Chad if they could at least give us a discount on the grooming. Chad said, "No because that was the only thing that was wrong and it wasn't that big of a deal." I said, "I was very upset and that I would proceed to contact corporate regarding the incident. He said, "Give me a sec...let me go talk to the groomer." He returned later and said, "The best I can do is give you a $5 credit." I said, "that's fine but I'm still contacting corporate because I don't believe you're handling this situation appropriately". Chad then responded, "Well if you're going to hard ball me like that then I don't even want to give you this cone." I grabbed my receipt and left. I filed a complaint with corporate, they said the store manager would contact me within 24hrs. No one ever called so I called the store manager directly. I explained to her (Debbie?) regarding what happened and Chad's unprofessional behavior. She provided me with the cone and ointment oil for our dog, but refused to do anything further regarding the incident, such as give us a discount on the grooming. She said, "The aggravation is not that bad, I've seen a lot worse. The groomer didn't do it on purpose and if I refund you the grooming then the groomer doesn't get paid and that's just not fair to him." At this point, I was beyond frustrated and exhausted of arguing with Petco's management. This is the worst customer service I have ever received and refuse to ever shop at any Petco! I understand accidents happened, but what was extremely frustrating was that they didn't seem to care about the pets they groom on a daily basis. As a result of the carelessness that happened, our dog had to wear a protective cone for 5 days. If they had shown an ounce of remorse, this situation wouldn't have ever escalated to this point. I like this petco it's in a convenient location for me. I do only stop in for mostly dog food maybe some other items once a month or less. I always have a quick, friendly experience. Went through the hassle of scheduling a wash and grooming for my dog here. When I arrived and presented my dog's medical records ( which INCLUDE proof of current rabies vaccination, I was told by the groomer, then another medical veterinary "expert" (another groomer) and finally by the Petco store "manager" that my "proof" wasn't valid because it doesn't include an "expiration date". That's funny, because in California (and in most other states) a rabies vaccination is valid for THREE YEARS! Oh, and good enough for not only getting a dog license, but also for getting your dog back across the border if you've been to Mexico. Isn't this something these self described dog "experts" should know? How can you have a job in this industry and not know this? Long story shortened to: I wasted an hour of my time, went to another pet supply store nearby and had my dog taken care of as a WALK IN (no appointment needed). So, not only did the "groomer" miss out on a job, but also Petco has lost a long time customer. Bottom line, this particular store is NOT where you want to take your pet for grooming. read more

This is the absolute worst PetCo I have ever been to... employees and 'trainers' take precedence over customers - don't get in their way!!! We were there recently and an item we were interested in was only available as the floor model. I asked if they would discount it all, as it was FILTHY. The "manager" tsked and said "they don't really let us do that" (period... as she simply walked away). Well... that was a very interesting comment, since we HAVE had an item discounted from this very store recently. This store is NOT customer focused AT ALL. I took my golden doodle for a trim. Her look is supposed to be curly haired. I took her specially to get brushed out and a bit of a trim. I try to keep it up myself but having the right tools helps so I let the professionals do it every once in a while. So I dropped her off and several hours later I came to pick her up only to find that rather than brush her out they just buzz cut her. She looked ridiculous and I am sure it was out of sheer laziness. If I wanted a fur-less dog I could have done that myself. Nope, I won't be back there. read more

Also, the Petco in Rancho San Diego is much more friendly, helpful and not to mention has better prices on certain things. Wow petco la Mesa must be getting desperate. I just received a phone call for a discounted grooming for my dog. I had been going there for a couple years now and have never received a call like that. The reason I do not go there anymore is because of an employee named Gina. Last time I went there my dog was deathly afraid to stay there and she has never done that before going there. She actually likes going there. I think my dog could sense a non dog lover. Gina came over, never smiled once and inspected my dog , checking her fur and grabbing her paws to look at user nails. My dog was trying to get away from her. Then she proceeded to argue with me about charging me extra to file her nails. I told her I have never been charged for a nail cutting. She told me that the nerve is too close and she may not be able to cut them. I said she always gets her nails cut whenever I take her in for a grooming. Then she told me that they must just cut them anyway implying that they hurt my dog when they cut them. I could not believe it. I told her to try and if she can't then whatever. So, I went to pick up my dog and Gina asked me if I wanted spray or bandana for her. I replied no because I felt she was going to charge me. I got in the car and my dog smelled worse than when she arrived. I feel that she must have done a dry shampoo or something because she didn't feel clean or smell clean. It was the worse customer service and dog grooming I have ever received. Lesson learned: next time someone gives you a hard time and argues with you, take your dog and leave. I felt so guilty leaving my dog in her care. And this is the reason I do not return to petco. So, no thanks petco on your discounted grooming and please try to hire people that actually like dogs. read more

I just called 3 whole times for this employee named Christine or Kristine to stop hanging up on me!!! I literally had ONE question, how much to trim my dog's nails!!! I called the first time, my dog Annie started barking at the same time she picks up and I giggle and say, "hello she says" the lady hangs up on me! With no sense of humor! Second time I call I try to ask the question, she hangs up on me Third time I had to hurry up and yell the question before she hung up on me to get an answer for something so simple!!! This is a review for the VETCO clinic that they have here on saturdays. Stay away from it! I've had good experiences with Vetco in the past but never at this location. If you do bypass my review and decide to go anyway, well plan on being in line for at least an hour and then once you get to the desk you may be turned away for ridiculous reasons. I took my puppy here for her shots and was told to come back on a very specific date, I went back on that date, waited in line for over an hour and then was told that I was 2 days early and that whoever wrote the date on my form wrote it wrong. The woman didn't even have the humility to apologize for my inconvience!!! I told her that my dog's birthday was written wrong and it was actually the 5th, so she asked to see my dog's birth certificate and was serious! LOL. read more

I have been going to PETCO since I got my puppy Henry. I have never really had any major problems, but the prices are getting extremely out of control. I went in to buy some Frontline and the price had gone up to $65.00 for a standard three month box. That is about a $20.00 price increase. I went to my vet and was able to purchase it there for $42.00. read more

No stars! These terrible Groomers CUT our Maltipoo! We rescued our dog in December, so this was the first time we were taking our shaggy maltpoo to get groomed. I printed out a picture of what I wanted the haircut to look like, but I should have guessed it would not turn out when the groomer continuously asked me how I wanted the tail, the face, the ears. I kept responding to her questions and then saying... Like the picture! When we picked her up she was shaved reaalllly short, and didn't look like the picture at all. But when we got her home I noticed that she was obsessively licking her paws, chest, and genitals. Everything was shaved down to the skin and was irritated and red. Poor pup! You cold also see that they shaved the hair on the pads of her paws and the pads were all red. I figured that all of that irritation would go away in a day or so and of course her hair would grow back in time. Two days later I noticed something dark brown near the side, almost underneath her tail. Of course I thought it was poop at first, but then I realized that it was matted hair and blood! They freaking cut her too! I will never go back to this terrible excuse for a dog groomers. We will also be reporting them on the better business bureau (BBB )and I encourage everyone else who has had a similar experience to do the same!!! read more

I have never written a review in my 58 years of living, but Petco has made me very angry. After taking my dog to their groomers for several years, I was informed by Michelle(the supervisor of the grooming department) that my dog popped when they cut his nails and he was just to old to for them to groom. My dog is fifteen years old. I was asked not to bring him back. Well, I now take my dog and my business to another store and they are very appreciative of my old dog and my business. Oh and Petco. I took my mini labradoodle here for a grooming and I am extremely upset. I frequent petco groomers and have never had a negative experience until today. I attend university in Washington so my dog needs a long coat for this time Of the year since it snows!!! And I asked for a specific style and cut. Taking my dog in I had a beyond fluffy dog I came out with a practically SHAVEN dog. After checking around my dog his nails didn't even get trimmed as stated in the full grooming service!! I have gone here about three times to have my dog's nails trimmed. Each time they can not find my info in the computer after I have signed up for their "petco card" and the last time, today, when I went in I had to lead the petco employee at the grooming counter to try and find my info. They just did not seem to want to help me after I had been there before. So I left and took my business to another groomer who had no issue with taking my dog in. Average Petco hidden in a side shopping center. If you're not from LA Mesa you'll never see it. The store is clean and the staff friendly. My dog likes to come here because it's his version of the grocery store. He likes the Blue Wilderness food. Get the card so you get discounts over time. Dog food is expensive. read more

This is one of my favorite stores to go in. My pet loves it here as well!!!! The staff is absolutely amazing and they know my dog by name every time I walk in the store. These employees not only do their job, but they have good hearts and are truly interested in my pet. My pet is paralyzed in his back legs, and is in a cart, and if he is having a bad day or not feeling very perky, I just take him here and then he's happy again.
