Today, we did a thing. Our Maine Coon has been extremely grumpy, mean, irritated and something had to be done! I've had him since he was a few weeks old. He's 7 now. Yes, I said "he" lol..... (Got him as kitty and was told he was a girl, later found out when we went to get Lily fixed that Lily was in fact a boy.... tried to call him Billy... he didn't like it... so he's our boy cat named Lily ) Anyways, Out of our 3 animals, he DOES NOT allow me to groom him. He growls, bites my hand if I brush him, and he hates water! I tried grooming wipes, he didn't like them. So, he had to be shaved. His fur was getting matted and his skin was having a reaction. Poor guy was uncomfortable.... After DAYS of research, I thought I was going to have to sedate him and groom him at $300- $400 a pop Well, I stumbled upon Lake Murray Grooming after finding them on Yelp and reading their reviews. Saw another girl post about her "mean maine coon" that sounded like our kitty and she said the girl, Beth, there was able to help give her cat a lion cut successfully. In shock, I made him an appointment! No sedation needed she said. To prep for such grooming, A week prior I bought pharamon spray for inside the crate to carry him, a calming cat collar, and calming treats. Mainly, I was scared for Beth's well being and didn't want Lily going all Crazy Cat and attack her.... well, it worked! Today, I took him in, I had to stay to assist and hold/pet Lily to help him remain calm. She shaved and groomed him in 20 minutes!! She is an absolute pro! And, Lily only bit my hand once when she had to shave his little behind area... he did NOT like that lol Surprised that was his only bad behavior the whole grooming experience to be honest. I highly, highly recommend Beth and Lake Murray Grooming! I paid a fraction of what sedated grooming was going to cost and the experience was amazing. Made the mistake of not giving my cat flea preventative before taking her here for grooming. A couple of days later she was scratching and and itching herself. Now she is diagnosed with Flea Allergy Dermatitis (FAD), which she never had before. I'm disappointed because its costing me SO MUCH stress and money taking her to the vet the past month. My Mainecoon mix is a sensitive and scared big-little-man of a cat. He's never been groomed before. He is easily anxious and defensive. I myself am totally unable to brush him or bathe him - last time I tried I ended up as the photo you see of my attached (Bloody face and ripped my nose ring out ) - still he's very sweet with people. I have never seen him be rough to vets so I wasn't sure if he would like being groomed much at all. I decided to err on side of caution and not have them bathe him because I feel like that makes him much more antsy. He has ended up in the ER at least twice from hairball issues regardless of all I've done to try and keep them at the minimum and help him pass them. So I decided to get him a lion cut as my last attempt at managing his hairballs and shedding. I was amazed how well the groomer (didn't catch her name - pink hair) handled my cat. He squirmed but she was very gentle and had him totally under control. I hopped in just at the end to help her get under his back legs. She did a great job and took only about 20 minutes. Another groomer told me a lion cut would take THREE HOURS. It was only $50 (cash or check only no card). I'm very very happy and pleased with service (they got me in the day of) read more

Beth is NOT amazing. Brought my little collie in for grooming. Granted, she had some matts at her chest & feathers from drying with a towel several times a day after she gets out of the pool. Chest & feathers only. Beth shaved my dog down to the skin, legs (zero matts) EVERYTHING! I would have paid anything she had asked for extra service. But now I have a freaky looking dog. We usually take my dog here and he comes back home soft, fluffy and happy. However for our last grooming appointment we wanted my dog's behind and other long areas of hair to be trimmed. We made the mistake of asking for a "hair cut," trusting that the groomer would understand the boundaries of cutting a LAB'S hair, but when we got our dog back, he came back fully shaven! A huge mistake on their part! I should be able to trust that my groomer understands the limits and proper care for specific breeds of dog; especially one as common as a lab. They cut her face very short and her head, every unhappy. We have her one more chance. We asked for a summer cut, and they shaved her. She is a puddle and she looks so bad. I am so happy to have found this little gem! A few months ago we adopted the sweetest, cutest Persian on the planet!
