I've been a dog owner (or, rather, I've been owned by my dog) for 2 months now. Our first stop after adoption was to this Petco to buy the necessities. Obviously, they have everything we need. But, more importantly, the staff is friendly and happy to talk about any needs you may have. We took training with Jessica which has been very successful in training both my dog and me. We've had such a good experience at this location that we even signed up for grooming. Justin took plenty of time getting to know me and my dog before starting which allowed my dog to get really comfortable with him. She came out looking super sweet and smelling good for days! Long story short, this has been a one-stop-shop for all our needs from dog food, treats, toys, training and grooming! I can't wait for the store remodel to be finished. read more

I really don't know what they put in the 2 for $5 toy bins but Andy (my cat) is obsessed with this unicorn llama that we have lovingly named Lebron. Lebron is the stuffed animals name because of the way Andy throws him like she's trying for a game winning free throw. She loves nothing more but to absolutely destroy this little guy and then run around the house with him. Anyways, I've always enjoyed the staff here. They always remember my mantises (which is pretty niche). Sometimes I even just come in and roam the shelves because they have so many things that I can just look at and try not to buy haha. Chain pet stores have a bad rep in general when it comes to the care of the animals in store. However, it is possible to be done correctly. At the PetSmart on Walnut Street, I have never seen a glaring problem, and the staff are knowledgeable. HERE HOWEVER, is a very different story. I went in one day when I was mainly just bored, and wanted to look around. My heart sank though when I saw the conditions their reptiles are kept in. The ball pythons where malnourished, and there were far too many critters to just one small cage. The icing on the cake though was one extremely emaciated leopard gecko. I almost felt a panic sensation when I saw it. There were three geckos in the cage (although one was an African fat tailed gecko, labeled as a leopard gecko, watch out for that) none of them were as emaciated as this one though. I alerted staff to the issue, but all the excuses they gave were so half-hearted, I decided to actually come back for the gecko and try to nurse it back to health in the safety of my own home. It has been a few weeks now, and he is slowly coming along. I actually notified corporate about the situation as well, however just a few days ago, a friend who was there sent me a picture of yet another emaciated gecko. In addition to this, none of the employees knew what they were talking about. I understand reptiles are slightly more "exotic" but if you can't care for or education about an animal, just don't carry it. Simple as that. In short: unhealthy, overpriced animals, bad service, spend your money elsewhere. read more

Took my 7 year old Hound and Bulldog mix for a wash and a nail grind. Amy was excellent and was able to check me in immediately upon arrival (I had an appointment, which I would suggest making). Different levels of washing were presented to me with the varying costs. I ended up to doing the Tea Tree shampoo add-on. It took about 2 hours, which I think is a reasonable amount of time for what is being done. I got a text from their automated text system when he was ready, which was very convenient. When I arrived to pick him up, Amy provided me with his report card. He did have a small scab on his back, and Amy carefully shaved the small area so it could heal. It appears to have been carefully done, so it should aid in the skins healing and hair regrowth. He was still a shedding a good amount, which I was hoping would not be the case, but still overall it was a good quality wash and nail grind at a reasonable price. His hair was soft, he smelled good, and he was sporting a new Stars Wars bandanna. read more

Store is under remodel so things are a little tight, but staff super friendly, always very helpful, I had to get our cats settled after a move to our new house (but 40 bucks for a litter pan?! "Does it clean itself??") Almost 150 on flea medication, just shoot me, having furry family is expensive too! Ton of name brands dog, cat, gerbil, fish, etc. Restrooms, free parking and wheelchair accessible. Bad experience, not worth the money! I brought my dog to Petco for bath and brushing. Man who was helping us couldn't care less, i believe his name is Justin. He literally did bare minimum. I was specific that I want to have everything done- nails, ears, anal glands. Normal service as it is. Plus I paid extra for nail brushing! When I picked up my dog he never touched his ears, as they were still dirty, he never touched his anal glands and his nails are not brushed as well as it could be. He looked like I am bothering him when I asked if he is going to do all those things! I am so angry, because now I have to go somewhere else and pay again for something I already paid for. Please do not support this establishment. The manager at this store does not care about the conditions he keeps the animals in his care. There is a blue tonged skink that has been there for well over a month that is being fed bird seed. I have complained to employees several times and told them to give it canned dog food which is the preferred food for every person who knows anything about these animals. 2 of the employees agreed with me but said their hands were tied because the manager wouldn't let them. I finally spoke to the manager and he argued with me that Petcos' veterinarians set the guidelines for what to feed all the animals. He then sarcastically asked me if I was a vet. This guy does not care that the animals in his care are slowly starving to death. PLEASE do not support this business, they are truly evil. read more

I have bred crested geckos for the past two years and have raised over a dozen babies successfully. PetCo REFUSED to sell me a gargoyle gecko when they had them in stock. The manager was extremely rude and wouldn't let me handle or even look at any of the babies, saying I would hurt them and acting accusatory like there was something wrong with them. I was not allowed to hold any of the geckos even though I was purchasing one. Then the manager wouldn't sell me the gecko! She falsely said that my enclosure was a "red flag" because it wouldn't accomodate a heat lamp. Gargoyle geckos will die if they go too far above room temperature! So not only was this lady rude, she had no idea how to take care of these geckos properly!! I have reached out to PetCo and am now seriously reconsidering whether I want to purchase my gargoyle gecko from PetCo. Which is disappointing since they looked fat and healthy and it is hard to find them elsewhere. read more

This place has a HUGE selection of dog stuff! Outfits, treats, and all those regular items too. I like how Petco usually has some geeky stuff for pets too (the chewbacca outfit made me laugh!). The cat area isn't as large as the dog stuff, and I couldn't find my kitty's preferred treats here. I guess Amazon will be my go to for those as I can't find them in pretty much any store anymore (Petco used to carry them). The main reason we decided to stop in at Petco was to let our toddler look at some animals. She has been really interested in all of the wildlife we see outside, but they always fly away or scurry off before she can really look at them. She had a BLAST when she finally got to the animals! At first she thought it was just a store for dog toys, but the birds, ferrets, guinea pigs, fish...all a complete hit! The employees at the store were nice enough to let us "browse" without giving us dirty looks or anything (much appreciated). While my toddler enjoyed getting a good look at all those critters, I was able to pick up some pet gifts for other animals we know too. Overall, this is a good Petco: well organized, friendly staff, decent selection of items, and a nice animal selection (that seem well cared for). read more

They killed a fish when someone was willing to buy him and care for him. Not only did the fish suffer, the manager , Mike, was rude and condescending towards the woman trying to save the fish. They let this poor fish suffer for god knows how long. The customer was willing to waive the guarantee and pay for the fish so she can save him. She even bought a special tank for him. Went here because of positive grooming reviews. Lelanie, I believe her name is was very nice and personable. I asked that my dog have matts cut out and that 1 inch of hair be left. She was shaved. This I could forgive. It is the razor burn that leads me to warn folks about the current situation with the salon. My poor dog is red on her face, left hind leg, and behind. The facial hair has never been cut so short (shaved?). She looks like a different dog and is acting sore and traumatized. read more

Clean new store. Employees here enjoy their jobs, and it shows through their interaction with customers. The pets look well taken care of, and healthy. So far I have been here twice and have found ways to look for something rare and they have found it or will order it for me. Recommend this store when caring for your pets or need items. read more

I was taught honesty is the best policy......well dealing with this store and it's staff that policy is WRONG!!!!! I bought a coat on the website Petco.com for 9.99 regular price is 24.99 and it turned out it was too big for my shih tzu so I took it into the store to exchange it. Sounds pretty simple right? Again WRONG! They were out of stock of the coat I bought online but had the other coat I wanted to get her which was out of stock on the website when I ordered said original coat...this coat too was 9.99 but regular price was 19.99. However in the store there are NO markdowns. I presented the store associate with my dilemma and explained the situation 3x since she didnt get that I was going to have to pay 10.00 more when I shouldn't have to. So I looked and looked on the site to find this coat and show her it was indeed 9.99 on the site so pricing could be corrected. The coat was no longer on the site. I know that items are kept on record with home office which they could have easily called but instead she gets her manager who comes out I again tell him the situation and admittedly at this point I'm a tad irritated. So I said to the manager when he refused to help and refused to call home office to check I said okay I want to do my exchange without a receipt so I won't have to pay extra for a coat I shouldn't have to pay extra for. He said nope can't do that because I know you didn't pay 24.99. So took my coat that is too big and left. I will never do business with a chain that treats customers like this. I hope home offices gives these people some customer service satisfaction training bc they need it!!!! read more

I don't even know where to start....June 9th I took my 3 yr old 8lb PomChi in for a routine bath, hair cut and nails trim, things went so wrong! I took him at his time to find out that our regular groomer was no longer there and the young girl promised me she was a professional. I told her just bath trim and nails. She said he would do great with her. She then told me she was a professional again. 25 minutes into his appointment I received a call from her saying "ms Miller you need to come get Gino because he bobbed and I weaved and he got nicked. He is bleeding and should see his vet" I was there within minutes. Gino wasn't just nicked. He was gushing blood so much I had to ask for a towel. As I was leaving for his vet the groomer said to me "we will not be charging you for the groom since we didn't finish. I couldn't believe she even thought I was paying her 1cent. Got to the vet and dr told me it was so bad that they needed to sedated him and put some staples in. 2 hr later I got to pick up my dog who now was in the cone of shame due to the 8 staples he had gotten to close up his wound. Petco did pay for my vet bill but would not pay for my day of work I had to lose due to the actions of the groomer. The store manager was so rude to me and would never call me back. I called corporate and they asked for the before and after pics I sent it as asked. Never did I get a response. Now it has been over a month and I could not get my 180$ I lost from missing work. I called the store for the 100th time and talked to the assistant manager and told her I just would sue for my money and ask for more. At that time I got a call back. They said they will send me my missed wages and a gift card for my inconvenience. About 2weeks after that I received my check but not gift card. I emailed them about that and was told he thought it was mailed out. Now remember this has been going on since June 9 it's now almost August and 5 emails later still no gift card. At this point it's all a joke. The lies, no return calls and email is ridiculous. I give up!! I'm just glad my pet is better now. I can't even blame the store alone because corporate office was just as negligent. Because of this I will never use ANY Petco for ANYTHING ever. read more

I took my dogs here to get groomed. I called the day before, late in the day, and somehow they had an opening for all 3 of my dogs the next day. I have two Shelties and a toy aussie. My Shelties got a full grooming plus I got the shedless treatment. They have such thick undercoats they have been shedding for awhile and the groomer completely removed all of it. The haircut they got looks great and also could be the best one they ever got. I have been to about 10 different groomers and this was by far the best cut. I have had people shave them after telling them not to, not brush them throughly, they have come back looking so funny, not here. They both look great, smell great, and are so silky. My toy aussie he is a puppy and some what of a handful. He just got a bath, brush out, and his nails trimmed. He looks good but he did still have a knot on his underside. So that's why I only gave 4 stars. I put a shirt on him and he got matting and I told the groomer beforehand about it. He may have been moving around to much, who knows. But overall I am very satisfied. read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. We went to buy some pet food. Part of the order was charged to my account and one item needed to be removed. The manager unplugged the system and we were told to go to another register to make the transaction. We could not make the transaction because unplugging the system did not cancel the charge to our account, so the funds weren't available to our account anymore. They handed me a sheet of paper and we were told to call the number and provide their store information to coordinate the clearing of the transaction between their store and our bank. They said the store could do it, but it would be too time consuming for them. So they put their responsibility on the customer to resolve the issue caused by them unplugging their store machine mid-transaction. Instead of leaving with any of the pet food we came in to buy, we left with empty hands, funds deleted from our account (on hold) and a sheet of paper with a phone number and store information for us to use to resolve a problem that the store could have and should have resolved. We used to shop at Petco regularly out of convenience. We have a variety of pets. This terrible customer service turned out to be a blessing in disguise, though, because it persuaded us to shop at a different pet store. We went to a local Pet Supermarket the same day and found that Pet Supermarket's prices were $2-$3 less per item (same items, not on sale). Shopping at Pet Supermarket was just as convenient and they also have live animals at the store, that we enjoy seeing. We were able to buy even more pet supplies because of Pet Supermarket's lower prices! read more
