I am heartbroken that my experience at Top Notch Pet Spa was completely less than top notch! I brought my rescue yorkie for her first grooming appointment with Top Notch and my baby girl left without a haircut, a very mild apology and unwarranted suggestion from the nameless manager. I took my Yorkie to her 10 am appointment and was excited for her to try a groomer much closer to our house. Excited about her appointment and remembering that they needed to "see" her vaccination records to make sure she wasn't due for her next rabies vaccine, I got out of the car with my pup, and went into the spa. Upon entry, I was quickly rushed outside (as if I had the plague, yet I was the only person with a mask on) and was told that guest wait outside. I looked around clueless because there was NO signage on the door that said to wait outside, there were no parking signs saying " please call _________ when you arrive" , so how was I supposed to know this was a pet drop off facility? Was I told upon booking? Absolutely not. So despite the awkward first encounter I pressed on with the appointment. My dog's groomer came to get her, and I explained to her a brief synopsis of her life since she's an adopted. I explained to the groomer that she has trust issues because of her life prior to adoption and informed her that she is very sweet despite the tough act she may put on at times. There was no hesitation to care for my dog, so off she went with her groomer. It was now 2:00 pm, 4 hours later and I had not been called to pick up my girl. Worried that I may have missed their call or that there were difficulties occurring, I call to check on her. Whoever answered the phone, told me that they usually tell their clients to allot 4 to 6 hours for grooming, however, you guess it, I was not made aware of that either. She informed me that she had been bathed and was next to be cut. An hour and 45 mins goes by and I receive a call from the groomer. I am thinking they are going to tell me that she is ready, INSTEAD, they are calling to tell me that they "can not groom her because she has become so aggressive/agitated that none of the groomers can groom her." SERIOUSLY!!!!! You've had my dog for 6 hours now and expect for her to be opened to be groomed and messed with???? Now you're painting her as the aggressor because she is unwilling to cooperate? She's missed her feedings, hasn't been out to use the restroom and has not seen a familiar face in the last 6 hours? Can you freaking blame her? I honestly couldn't! I was so disappointed that when I went to pick her up, I called upon arrival and asked if they could send the manager out with her.... Unfortunately the interaction with the manager did nothing for my life. She wasn't extremely apologetic about the lack of information told to me as a NEW client, she wasn't interested in making things better despite taking 6 hours out of myself and my dogs day, the interaction was useless. Not to mention when I initially opened my mouth to express how disappointed I was in the lack of information given to me as a new client AND at the fact that no one informed management of my dogs anxieties, the manager responded timid and shaking as if I had yelled at her, been aggressive or defensive. I was the exact opposite! I was defeated! I just wanted my baby girl to have a hair cut so that she is more comfortable! She has allergies so her hair holds all of her allergens. I felt defeated because I expressed to the groomer my girls traumas, and they were ignored, then she was painted out to be an aggressor. All in all my experience left me defeated and drained and now I am back to the drawing board to find my girl a new local groomer. read more

2nd Update... I'm so done.. if I could give them negative stars I would. I am usually not mean but... ARE YOU SERIOUS!!??? They tried to fix it by getting another groomer near us. Guess what!???!! The person NEVER got a call and DID NOT KNOW HOW TO TAKE OFF CAPS!!!! SHE TRIED YANKING IT OFF!!! YANKING A CAP THAT WAS GLUED ON!!! This statement is before I went to this place... I'm not going back there. They tried to blame it on me for not knowing that I got the wrong caps or if they should take off the caps. They had called me. They corrected me and said it was to big... in my opinion still the same issue. Why put it on still. 2nd they did ask me if I WANTED TO TAKE OF THE SOFT CAPS. I said no cause why stress him out more and IF THEY PUT THEM ON CORRECTLY, why would I have them taken off??? Well I trusted them that they would tell me or automatically take it off it wasn't done right. NOPE! I am not a professional groomer. So I base it off the concerns of the groomer. If they put on the caps I expect them to let me know if I had gotten the right ones, and if they had done them well. Also stated that i shouldn't tug on the super glued caps that are attached to my dogs claw bed, paws, hair and skin.... really? Are you sure that that won't be an issue? Seems fine to just yank it right off. Don't accuse me when I cannot trust the person who is giving the information. I had to do my own research and I also have worn fake nails before it is not a piece a cake when just yanking on them... it would literally pull or severally damage your nail. Guess I gotta go to grooming school. UPDATED!!! I am extremely and utterly pissed and would like this place give me a refund and be shut down but it wouldn't help my poor baby now. One of my dogs is not great with his feet getting touched and I asked them if they could cut the nails and put caps on. I got to small of caps... they did even notice!! What kind of professionals don't know this!! They could only do one paw because all of the them kept cracking (first sign) and then I thought they did great until my husband came home and looked at his paw. He was tearing them up! His skin was raw because he was in so much pain. They had shoved the small caps on! One of the caps was shoved into where the nails grow out!!! How painful is that!! Hair, skin, nail everything was glued in there in every single one of the SINGLE paw they did. They groomed my baby just as a check list! A to do list!! I would rather have you be honest then ruin my baby! I am trying to get them off now and he is shaking so bad I started to cry. You guys are not professionals. I will tell everyone to stay away. I will never come back there again! I am so pissed!! I usually don't write a review but I just had to! I would give them more than 5 stars if I could! My dogs may look cute but don't be fooled they are wild ones and not a lot of people can handle them. Except Top Notch Pet Spa! Experience: I was looking around every where for the perfect puppy salon that would be able to handle my babies. I messaged a couple and Top Notch was the first to respond and give me a quote on how much it was. She also reassured me that they could handle my dogs if they did not like grooming or nail filling. (One of my dogs hhhaattees it, he is the nicest dog ever but try to clip his nails he gets extremely upset). Both of my dogs are very emotional (in a cute but also in a very dramatic way). The owner assured me that she had the best groomers and would be able to take care of them even after telling her all their quirks. So I made an appointment, I also told them about my babies quirks. The employees said okay sounds good! It was so easy just dropping them off, nervo That was it they called me up when they had finished and they were able to groom and clip both of my dogs nails! Came here on a recommendation from a friend. I was nervous since we rescued our dog a few months ago and he had obviously never been groomed. Because of this, I paid the extra fee for express service to wait for him in case he had behavior issues or a bad experience. He was done in less than an hour. The customer service was great, the staff was friendly/ helpful (I obviously didn't know anything about dog haircuts), and his haircut is incredibly adorable for having to match a vet's shave. They said they could not fully finish grooming around her neck because she was fussy, but I was not offered to come back a different time to potentially finish the hair grooming (Considering maybe my pup was just worked up due to this being her first visit to this groomers). When I went to pick her up, I was asked to pay and if I wanted to tip, but how could I be so willing to tip if I had not even seen my dogs grooming job yet? I was worried when I dropped my dog (7 yo shih tzu) off today because she was so matted. She recently had surgery to remove cancer and hasn't been groomed in awhile. I am quite concerned... I went to pick up my dog and there was dog hair all over the floor where they are cutting I mean EVERYWHERE. I am in cosmetology school and we are taught to clean up hair after cutting .. I assume the same would be for dogs. That is unsanitary what if another dog had fleas or something? This makes me wonder if they even clean their supplies between dogs. My dog has come home itchy the past several times and I wonder if this is the case.. that they are not sanitizing their supplies properly, especially if they don't sweet up hair until the end of the day.. read more

Really bad experience for the first haircut of my goldendoodle pup. The ask was for a trim and they cut the hair to mimic a poodle. Even that was not done consistently, there are short and long (original length) strands of hair all over my pup's face, body, undercoat, legs. They charged $80 for this service. After getting a less than stellar haircut at a previous groomer I hit Yelp-land to do some research. I was tempted by several other groomers but finally we decided on this place. Making an appointment was easy, I sent an email and a few hours later I received a courteous and informative reply. I immediately booked an appointment. We have a giant schnoodle and weren't sure what kind of cut to give him. He has beautiful curly hair and we wanted to let him keep a bit of length with it. At the same time we didn't want to pay what we were quoted and him not be truly groomed. I didn't really need to worry...they understood exactly what we wanted and our boy came out looking fantastic. He is a 60 pound, mouthy puppy but they were patient with him and he seemed happy when we picked him up. Our second trip was more of the same great service and this time we opted to give him a schnauzer styled cut and again he came out looking and smelling great. We used to use "big box" grooming options for our older dog and our current one, though we ended up doing the vet for our senior dog (before putting him down). In California it was spotty, but every time we took a dog to a "big box" option here in NC they came home scared and once, came home INJURED. In comparison, our current dog ALWAYS loves going to see the staff at Top Notch, and always looks incredibly happy when we pick her up! They are responsive when we ask about appointments, and have fit us in last minute when we only had one day where we could get in and the dog needed to be groomed. If anyone asks, this is the first place I'd think of - it's about the same price as the "big box" option and the service is, of course, Top Notch. *laughs like a madwoman* read more

Brought both of my standard poodles here and the groomer did such a great job. Dogs were done as requested and the nice touch of bows were put on their ears. Overall cost for two standard poodles was cheaper than many of the places in the Triangle. They were also great about scheduling and accommodating us, as several other places (at the time) were booked through January. I was also impressed that they cleaned / stripped the ears and did a great job on the toenails as well. My very sweet and young goldendoodle turns into a train wreck while being groomed... she has been kicked out of big box grooming facilities with a third of her body shaved. Top Notch was able to do it all! Clean feet, grind her nails, shave her down and give her a bath! Her cut was a little uneven but considering her grooming behavior, I am very pleased! In addition, there were a lot of poodle mixes in the salon- this business knows how to groom, not just shave and bathe. read more

I have been bringing my dog here for the past 3 years. For the first time, I called to let them know I could not bring my dog in because of car troubles. They did not waive the NO SHOW fee. I am very disappointed and will be finding a new groomer. My dog was very comfortable at this groomer, but I will not pay $50 no show fee on top of a $55 groom for a small dog. ONE STAR IS FAR TOO GENEROUS!!! I took my puppy here for the first time yesterday, I was told the cut was $45 and upgrade shampoo was $6 = $51 not $70!!! I took a picture of my puppies previous cuts and wanted her to look just like the picture... Well I get her and I was charged $70 because they claim I asked for upgrades, the only upgrade I asked for was $6 oatmeal shampoo. She was cut too short and her face hadn't even been touched. The heavy set brown hair lady Sid, when I asked why the price hike, well we had to use a muzzle on her so you were charged an extra $10! Ummm I was told the extra $10 would only be charged if it took two people to hold my dog, it didn't take anyone because they muzzled her. Hannah told me to come back in 5 hours and she would be done, I came back in 5.5 hours and when I got there she had just started on her cut! I dropped my dog off at 10:00 am and didn't get her back until after 5:00 pm, that ridiculous! Then to top off this while "top notch" experience, I get home with my dog and she's limping very badly, I look at her foot and its bleeding from being cut by the groomer. I had to take her to the vet and endure that cost as well, now my baby is hurt and has a bad hair cut. I don't mind paying the $51 but $70; the fact the lady didn't even tell me until after she ran my card and then proceeded to tell me that I got what I asked for, but that's not true at all because I didn't!!! I will not recommend this grooming place to anyone. Update: The owner called me and basically that said that she doesn't want my dog back into the salon because I complained about the cut of my dog. She goes on to state that the cut was what I asked for, when in fact it was not. Her head was not even cut and her nails still need cutting. Personally I feel like this business should not even be open or needs another owner who actually cares about their customers. The owner of course took her staffs side. When all I wanted was for her to fix my dogs face. DO NOT GO TO THIS GROOMER!!! read more
