When her availability was too far out for me I said, "okay thank you, we'll keep looking around for something sooner." She said, "thank you for wasting my time." We have had excellent experiences with Petropolitan. We have had our pup groomed there several times since we adopted him earlier this year, and he has looked great every time. The best part of our experience has been that the staff at Petropolitan are happy to work with us even though our pup is anxious around other dogs. Chain pet store groomers have turned us away because of that, but Petropolitan has always done a great job of reassuring us that they would be able to handle our dog. The staff has a note card with all of our dog's information written on it, so they know his needs at each appointment. We have worked mostly with Tina and once with Diane. Both have done a great job - they make sure to understand what we want (length of hair, shape of tail, etc.) and they deliver exactly what we ask. Most recently our dog came home with a cute holiday bandana!! The prices are very fair - comparable to what we used to pay at chain pet store groomers, but with far better service. A couple things to note: (1) Because Petropolitan is a small business, they only accept cash or check. (2) Their schedule fills up very quickly (~a month in advance). If you're looking to schedule an appointment, be sure to call in ASAP! We are happy to support this small business and will continue to do so. read more

I really didn't want to give a bad review but it's not crazy bad. Despite the 2 week wait I figured this was a extremely popular groomer. I have 2 pups, made a 8:30am appointment. I was told a couple of hours (assuming two). That turned into 6 hours. I also wasn't told they didn't take cards even though I spoke with at least 2 different people, which was slightly inconvenient due to there being construction on the street. When I picked my pups up they looked amazing. I was so excited I made sure to make another appointment despite those things I found to be negative. Now once home I was able to really look and see them. I was disappointed in the way their nails were cut. I asked if they grinned their nails and shape them I was told yes but their nails are crazy sharp. Also around the bum area was my #1 thing I wanted shaved that was barely done. I made these "request" via phone so I assumed it was in a profile for them but I guess not. Paying $110 for both I would just assume the important stuff owners ask would be met. So now I'll have to take them to petsmart for $45 more to get their bums shaved//nails shaped. Overall the staff: extremely sweet women and very informative as well. read more

Compared to other experiences and places around here - Petropolitan is as good as it gets. I just picked up Ovie from his first grooming session and he looks "FABULOuuuuUS!" When I brought him in this morning, he had mats behind his ears and on his legs - i'm not a bad mom i swear! he's a golden, that's just what they do! They gave him a good look and suggested some cuts and looks for him. I wasn't too particular - the only thing I didn't want was to have him shaved down - - which is what happened at another place last time and I left the groomer and tears and Ovie left with his tail tucked between his bare legs :( We left feeling great today, Ovie was very proud and feeling fancy! Comparing the price and quality with our past experiences, and what our parents (who also have a golden) have experienced, Petropolitan really delivers and their prices are very reasonable. It's been a long time since my first review, and I'm due for an update. We've been taking our dog here for her haircuts for four years. The cut is always consistent, and Vegas is happy and comfortable being here. Getting an appointment is not difficult with a little notice, and they are good at reminding us to book early when a busy time might be approaching (like around the holidays). We also get periodic email reminders once it's been a while and V might be due for another cut. Sometimes we get a full cut and sometimes it's just a little clean up, and the cost varies accordingly. We are very pleased here and would recommend highly to anyone looking for a dog groomer. Check or cash only--you can't pay with a credit card. read more

Diane has bathed and groomed my dog Molly (12 1/2 year old Border Collie mix twice now and I am more than pleased with her work. It would be impossible to know how Molly does since I'm not there but Diane is able to use the filing tool on her nails and get them down like no one else ever has. She has told me that Molly leans on to her to allow her to do her nails... And if I didn't see the results it would be hard to believe her - Molly HATES people touching her feet! My dog is everything to me and this is the only place I will ever take him to get groomed! We first went to Petropolitan when we lived in Chapel Hill. Diane was so great and she always gave Suby the perfect haircut. I don't just hand my dog over to anyone. She is so kind and you know she cares for every dog in there. Suby has never left there looking anything but perfect. We recently moved to north Raleigh and I couldn't fathom letting Suby go to another groomer. Petropolitan is worth the drive and we make it every time he needs to be groomed. I moved to Durham three years ago. Sad to leave our previous groomer, I tried a few near my new home, with mixed results -- what a relief it was to find the great folks at Petropolitan! Charlie always looks and smells great after a day at the "spa." He has always been timid about grooming, but Tina's kindness and patience are a big plus. She is a skilled groomer, and, even after many visits, always discusses my wishes for style and length as we arrive. Petropolitan has a welcoming and clean environment, and a friendly staff. We have been taking our 2 Corgi's Chelsea & Maggie to Deborah at Petropolitan for several years. We first met Deborah when she was working for a chain pet company. She was the 1st groomer who knew how to groom a Corgi. When she left to start her own business we followed along with several friends. We now have one Corgi Maggie & she loves to go to see Deborah & her 4 legged friends on her special day of grooming. About 5 or so years ago, due to some personnel changes at my previous groomer I needed to find a new one. Tyson Animal Hospital recommended Petropolitan and I am truly glad that I followed up. Petropolitan is a clean, well equipped facility operated by Deborah & Diane, two ladies that you immediately get the feel know all about dogs and have a gift when it comes to dealing with them. There are no backrooms here. Everything is in one room, the kennels, the bathing stations & the grooming tables. At any point in the day when you come in you will see work in progress - right there in the open. I like the high visibility, what you see is what you get & you get the whole enchilada. Deborah has groomed my babies since the beginning. She is one in a million! Quick to point out subtle changes in behavior & appearance. (She just informed the other day of physical changes in my girls that I hadn't noticed.) Over the years I have had as few as 5 and as many as 10 dogs at a time, tea cup, toy & miniature poodles & a Peek-A-Poo. Yes up to 10. (Even rescued furkids need a trip to be beautified.) Each one has/had their own temperament and Deborah is very capable of dealing with even those stubborn furkids with a firm hand as well as love & kindness. One of my babies is a 15 year old 2.3lb tea cup poodle who is getting a bit cantankerous when comes to grooming. She has bad knees, an arthritic back & gets tired easily. Deborah accommodates this by breaking the grooming session down into small bits, giving Baby a chance to rest between them. I just can't see one of those big box store's groomers doing this. I have recommended Petropolitan to anyone I hear is looking for a groomer. Those that have made the trip have been glad they did. Lord help me if they ever decide to retire!!!! read more

I almost don't want to write this review because I'm selfish and don't want Diane to get so busy that I have to book three weeks out- but I have a feeling that may end up happening anyways ;-) I've been taking my ever-shedding pound dog here for a few years after reaching my wits end after another terrible grooming at Southpoint Petsmart. Seriously, it was so bad she looked like she had mange. Awful haircut. I was embarrassed FOR HER at the dog park. But, then we found Diane. Now we laugh at our pup after a grooming, not because she looks ridiculous like before, but because she now prances around like a proud pony with her cute haircut and little bandana scarf. Diane is great with our (sometimes moody) princess and I highly recommend her. read more

I brought my dog in to be washed and brushed with a "sanitary cut" around the butt. They cut her whole coat down without my permission. I have a sheltie and their coats are not supposed to be cut down. So, it was definitely armature hour at the groomer's today. There was some matting around the hips. But, there was no reason for any of the hair on her back our around her neck to have been cut. In past visits to Petropolitan, they have brushed out the winter coat and gotten any mats out without cutting the hair on the hips... This time, the whole top coat was cut down to the length of the undercoat - again, without asking me. Plus, they charged me $10 more per dog than the estimate they gave me on the phone which was already $5 more than I had paid in the past. So, I paid an additional $15 for a terrible cut I didn't ask for. If I wanted her hair cut instead of brushed out, I could have done that myself for free. read more

We cannot be more enthusiastic about our grooming experience with Petropolitan. We brought our nine month old Westie puppy for a grooming for the first time last week. We had a less than satisfying experience with another local groomer, and we also have a head shy terrier who is still learning his way into the world. That made us anxious, but the team was reassuring from our first phone inquiry all the way through. Our pup looks terrific in his beautiful Westie pet cut. And even though our little guy was clearly a handful, the staff went out of their way to be positive and encouraging. We feel that we definitely got our money's worth and then some. read more

I am very peculiar about my babies. I searched for weeks to find a groomer that would take care of them the way I would if I were in their shoes. Their father dropped them off and I was nervous all day. What I liked most was that they called me prior to doing anything to provide me with a consultation about their needs. They were concerned that their first experience be a pleasurable and that went a long way to ease my mind. When I picked them up, they prepped me for the remarkable change from my fluffy pups to my now sleek summer puppies. They kept their faces rounded so that it wasn't too traumatic. As soon as Debbie opened her shop, we brought our little girl to her. I had know Debbie for several years because two of her children had been my students. They were delightful, and reflected kindness, good values, and both were bright and always engaged. I reasoned that anyone who was was rearing such a fine family would be a person with whom I could confidently trust our little rescue. Debbie is an artist. She was also quite knowledgeable about the health changes she spotted in "Sweetheart." Both she and Diane were so kind as they walked with us through our precious little girl's last year, and I am grateful beyond words to both of them. The shop overlooks a park-like setting. An occasional deer saunters through their manicured lawn and squirrels peek into their home curiously from their perches high up in the beautiful mature trees which are abundant on their property. Doggy t.v.! What a lovely reflection of the artistic talent I see in Debbie and one which I also saw in her children. We are blessed to know such a lovely, creative person. I never had any concerns when we left Sweetheart. Not once did she ever come home looking anything except amazing. We have had many fur children, all rescues and all with high grooming needs. We moved here from the Chicago suburbs and have never found anyone as gifted as Debbie, and we certainly have never seen such a cheerful, clean shop. We have referred many other families to Petropolitan. ALL have been just thrilled. Rave reviews to Debbie and her outstanding creation of an exceptional oasis for fur children. If I could give zero stars that's what I would give! The 1st couple of times I went there I loved the style that Jill gave my golden doodle. The 3rd time was a nightmare. My dog was badly cut under his neck. The worst part was that they failed to tell me! Obviously some form of styptic was applied because I didn't even see it right away. Later on when I was petting him, it felt funny(hard) and when I took a closer look I saw it. I called and spoke with owner who insisted that my dog was not cut- he suffered razor burn due to the fact that he was matted. Whether it was a cut or severe razor burn it should never have happened! I sent her photos of a large cut which required vet care. She denied it happened even after I sent her the photos. Everyone who saw my pet stated that it was a bad cut with a lot of razor burn! The attitude of the owner and stylist was awful and uncaring. I mean to deny the facts shows that they care more about themselves then my dog and indicates what kind of people they are. All I can say is that there are many great dog groomers out there so why take the risk. read more

My standard poodle and my daughter's standard poodle go to Petropolitan together every six weeks. Mine is almost ten years old, and Diane has groomed her since she was eight weeks old. Chloe walks right in, and jumps up onto the grooming table. The fact that she is so comfortable with Diane, and the shop itself, speaks volumes! Everyone there is professional, friendly, helpful and most accommodating. The prices are very reasonable considering the time and skill it takes for the excellent results. I was very concerned when looking for a groomer for my dog with extreme anxiety. Petropolitan came highly recommended from my vet. We were amazed by the services we received there.
