They called me right before pickup and said my dog was coughing up blood and has a knot on the top of his neck; that wasn't there before! My husband specifically gave him a bath and took him for a checkup before we left to go out of town. There is no way we wouldn't have seen this and especially coughing up blood! He seemed so scared when we picked him up it looked as though they choked him during the time they gave him a "bath" I guess. I do know that we took him home and tried to doctor on him because unfortunately we just came off vacation and paid them a ton of money for no one to admit to anything. Don't I repeat Don't take your pet here smh!!!! P.s. the knot is STILL there but has shrunk a lil, he hasn't coughed up blood since oh and his bark was very hoarse sounding after a week it got better. read more

I am very disappointed to write that neglect during boarding at creature comforts almost cost my dog her life. I had used them for years without issue until a three week boarding starting 12/24. In her final week at the facility they noticed (her 5th to last and 6th to last days there) that her weight had dropped. They didn't notify me, and instead drastically changed her feeding with extra food + wet food. From her 4th to last day onwards, she apparently stopped eating consistently (again I wasn't notified, until the day I was already set to pick her up). During this time, apparently a hernia she had had allowed a lobe of her liver to get stuck encroaching into her chest cavity. Her lung was compressed and there was fluid around her lungs, and there was damage to both organs. She required intensive surgery and was in critical condition, ultimately they needed to remove an entire lobe of her liver. I don't blame staff for not being expert diagnosticians or vets, but the degree of her weight loss was blatantly apparent to the naked eye, she was emaciated when I got her. Ultimately she lost 12lbs in 3 weeks, my normally 55-60lb dog weighed only 43 when I got her with protruding hip bones and spine and sickly looking thinness around her abdomen. Anyone paying any attention would have realized the weight was unhealthily low and called their owner. I understand waiting maybe one day, two before calling but after that point? And the weight loss was noticed for two days then that was followed by four days of her not eating. Again, maybe a pet gets stressed but after one day of not eating, that's a real concern and time to call the owner so they are at least aware. Part of why I picked this facility was because of the animal hospital associated with them. I would have immediately made plans to return for her and i would have gladly paid for/authorized the vet next door to see her in the meanwhile. I never got the chance. Because I never got that chance, more of her liver got necrotic, more of her lung function was impaired, she lost more weight for the surgery she would ultimately have and was weaker and at higher risk during it. She now faces a harder, longer recovery than she would have otherwise and she also sat needlessly in pain for nearly a week. THERE WAS NO REASON FOR ANY OF THAT. I am truly disgusted, and I don't want any other animals to go through what my dog went through. I am in shock at the lack of care shown here. This story came perilously close to ending with my dog dying alone in pain just because the people here couldn't be bothered to take two seconds to email me. read more

We just moved to Durham. And was very skeptical when we first used this place to board our dog. Place smelled of straight dog and urine. I will have to admit the front lobby is much better and no smell and looks inviting. There grooming service sucks . We get a free dog wash if your pet stays more than 5 days. And they must wash him in just water because he doesn't smell clean he is fluffy but they do not brush. Literally they just wash or rinse the pet off This last time I was very disappointed , I go to pick up the pet and he is has dried poop on him. Didn't notice until I got home but smelled it on the way home. They wanted me to bring him all the way back out to the facility to give him a bath. I can't because of work and I am on conference calls all day. Then she said you can bring him back tomorrow or the next. Lady he has poop on him and stinks like poop. You expect me to keep it on him. They told me they couldn't give credit back to my card, instead I could have in-house credit for the cost of the bath. Not sure if I will take him ba k or not. The grooming services were extremely unprofessional. Regardless of the fact that they took over three hours to wash my dog (+nail trim), what really upset me was the failure to communicate throughout the process. Creature Comforts does not have someone regularly answer the main phone (and only public line). Whether it was making the appointment, dropping off and trying to pick up my dog, no one was there to answer the phone and I had to call several times and leave several messages. I also received little guidance as to when to expect my dog to be ready after his grooming. I was told 1-2 hours at the most. Even if it was going to take longer this should have been communicated. Horrible experience and I will not be coming back. I was told to drop my puppy off at 11 and that I would recieve a call when he was ready. I did not hear anything back for three hours and decided to call, getting an answering machine. After leaving a message and calling for an hour I decided to go back to their location and see what was up. No one was at the front desk. After waiting and knocking on the door not hear anything for 15+ minutes someone showed up. After explaining the situation the attendant preceded to say that my dog was nearly ready and drying. She said she had received my message (over an hour ago) and that she could check us out but the internet was down so I had to provide my payment information via paper. read more

The place smells of urine as soon as you enter. When I remarked about this, I was told that the building was old and it was difficult to get the urine smell out. On entering the facility, the once white-colored door is grey. This could've been cleaned and painted. Everyone was friendly (which is why this place gets 2 stars instead of 1); it's just not a place I would take my fur babies because of the uncleanliness of what I could see. My partner and I lived in Durham for most of the last year and regularly brought our dog Miley in for daycare and the occasional grooming. The staff was always friendly and helpful in person and on the phone. Most importantly, every time we'd arrive in the parking lot Miley would lose her mind and couldn't wait to go inside, practically dragging us in. There wasn't a single time that we picked her up where she wasn't happy. read more

This past week my fiancé and I went to visit some family for a nice break. We have 4 dogs, two of which are L and XXL in size. We cannot travel with them for this side of the family, so we board them at CREATURE COMFORTS INN on CORNWALLIS ROAD. This was their second stay there. The first stay cost us $332 for 3 days/ 2 nights. That is outrageous in and of itself. This past week they were there for 6 days/ 5 nights. When we picked them up yesterday, I asked the staff members if they behaved and if there was any behavioral issues we needed to know about. He replied "no! they were fantastic as always". We paid and left. Upon arrival at home, I checked them both for fleas, ticks, bite marks, or scratches like I always do. After examining both of them one was covered in puncture wounds, bloody scabbed over bites on his ear, and a TUFF OF HAIR RIPPED FROM HIS HEAD. When I tell you I was mortified, I WAS! I immediately called CREATURE COMFORTS INN and asked what the heck happened to him. They put me on hold to "review his chart" and came back 10 minutes later with a BS story that my dogs (who have NEVER fought with each other a day in their lives) got into an altercation and had to be separated for the remainder of their stay. He also informed me that a call and voicemail was "supposedly" made on Wednesday morning to my cellphone to notify us of the fight. I received no call and no voicemail. They also have THREE (3) other numbers as emergency contacts incase they cannot get ahold of me. I decided to call my phone provider and have my call history (in and out) sent to me. After sending it to CREATURE COMFORTS INN I received not a single call, text, or email back. I don't want my money back or a half a** apology. I want them to admit they are irresponsible and careless with family pets who are extremely important and valued. My poor dog was a bloody mess 3 days after this "altercation" I can only imagine what he looked like and felt when they most definitely let him be attacked by another animal in that facility. I will die before I EVER TAKE MY ANIMALS THERE AGAIN. read more

Creature Comforts is a great place. It is smaller than other places - which is an advantage- still plenty of room to play - sometimes with wading pools. As other places, first day is free and temperament test; the difference is that "We don't give up on any dog, we are very patient with our dogs; new and current." My dog, surprisingly, was nervous of the other dogs on her first visit. The staff leashed her off and took her on a tour of the whole facility; inside and out, letting her sniff everywhere, two times. We mutually decided to try a half-day next time. Again, my dog seemed reluctant until I "introduced" her to a staff member- she bent down & petted, scratched and cuddled Hali, my dog. Then, with tail wagging non-stop, Hali happily followed her in. I had also said that it was okay if Hali was in a kennel for the time to get used to smells, etc. She didn't need that, she eagerly joined in play time and other dogs needed to try to keep up with her‼ When the staff brought Hali out, she was very happy to see us, though she did turn around to say goodbye to staff (always a good sign), who were still waiting squatted down! Creature Comforts also does boarding, haven't tried that yet. I feel confident in that service as well. The facility is also right next door to Cornwallis Animal Hospital - nice in case of an emergency ! (Hopefully never needed - just nice reassurance). I highly recommend this place! Absolutely love this place! My dog Charlie really loves it and always comes home super tired from all the fun he had! Their staff also really seems to know him well and always gives me a report of his behavior that day. What really won me over was when Tina called to let me know he was overdue on his bordatella vaccination and therefore couldn't be in daycare for his safety after I had dropped him off for the day. I had a job interview that day and wasn't sure what I was going to do because I needed him to be taken care of. Tina offered to call the animal hospital next door to see if they could get his vaccination. When we found out they didn't have any availability, she offered to keep him at the front desk with her so I could finish my interview. Tina really went above and beyond to help me out and it really shows the kind of staff that Creature Comforts has working for them. Highly recommend this place for your furry friend! read more

My dogs love it here! We brought our dogs here for daycare before we went on a trip, they loved it! We then boarded them for a couple nights while we went on our trip. We gave the place a call about halfway through our trip to just check up on them and the receptionist was kind enough to give us an update on our babies. When we picked them up, they were super excited to see us again but, we could tell, the entire time we were gone, they were getting the upmost splendid care. We will be coming back in the future, because after our experience, we know we can trust the people at CCI to look after babies!! read more

I was out of town for work for 2 weeks and came back to two healthy and happy doggies! Usually, I have a friend take care of my two 2-year-old dogs because they I want them to have plenty of interaction and care. My friends were busy this time, so I stumbled upon Creature Comforts Inn through Google. I called and they seemed nice, so I went with it. I brought my own dog food and a few toys, and they provided the bedding - they also offer food, but suggest bringing your own to avoid extra stress to the dog. 5 days in, I called to check up on my dogs and they immediately knew who my dogs were just by their first names. I had paid for the higher-cost option ($68/day total for two dogs) and the dogs got 3 walks and two hours of daycare every day. I came to pick up the dogs today and they were happy, hadn't lost any weight, and had no obvious problems at all. I will absolutely come back the next time I need to board them. read more

I have to say how great our experience has been with creature comforts inn. We were in town for a wedding and was given the name of this place from the bride, who boards their dog here. From the moment I called all the way to picking up our Boxer, we had a very pleasant experience. Ellen helped me over the phone and was so very nice. She helped us secure our reservation and asked that we provide vaccination records. Easy peasy!! The ground are very nice and clean. Our dog looked happy, clean & well taken care of when we picked him up! Prices were great as well! It was $30 a night for the large run and we got a $20 discount as a new customer! We are so appreciative of the service and being able to board him here. We have never been here so it means a lot to know he's safe and close! If we are ever back in the Durham area and are in need of boarding services for our dog, we will most certainly bring him back! I would recommend this place to anyone! THANK YOU!!!!! read more

I have been using Creature Comforts Inn to board our young corgi for about 5 months. I have used their boarding service about 4 times now and I am still really happy with the facility, its cleanliness, and the pricing. We have tried a couple other doggy hotels in the Triangle, but we always keep coming back to Creature Comforts. Coming from really high rates in California (up to $50 per night stay) I'm very happy to only be paying $23/night for my little buddy, which also includes at least two walks a day. You can also get play-time for about $8 day which I like to use if I am leaving him for longer than 2 days. The office and lobby is clean, and I like that it doesn't smell nasty like some other doggy hotels. The staff is also really nice and they make it a point to quickly know their customers, and their pets by name as they become regulars. Each time I use their boarding service, I feel that my little guy is in safe hands and is being well cared for. It's also easy to get to in Durham and they also have an animal hospital just next door for any emergencies. read more

Just picked up my pup from his 2nd stay here and I am overall very pleased with the service and pricing. We had brought our dog to Suite Paws once but I much prefer creature comforts. I was very happy that they accommodated a last minute boarding request. When I had called Suite paws they quickly told me no and that was the end of the conversation. The employee here was very nice and confirmed that it wouldn't be a problem to drop him off that day for an overnight stay. We picked him up today and he seemed very happy. The man behind the counter that got him was extremely helpful and made sure we weren't charged for 2 playtimes since we picked him up early today. You really can't beat the pricing, and with the friendly atmosphere and happy pup at home I know he's being taken care of. read more

I was looking for a place to board my dog for a few days and stumbled upon this place. Called a few days ahead to see if we could come by and check out the facility on the upcoming Saturday. We were told to come by any time. Got there and the front desk person was checking in two others which was fine. We ended up waiting 15-20 mins while the front desk person was busy chatting it up with the two ladies (not even about their pets anymore). As they were wrapping up because a third party walked in, she asked what we were there for and we told her. She told us to come back 1-2 hours later because they were "short-handed". If that was the issue, why spend so much time chatting with other clients while new potential clients made a 20 mile drive to check out the place? Needless to say, they lost our business without even having served us. Disappointed and pathetic. read more

After having a disappointing experience boarding our dogs at our vet, we came over to Creature Comforts, had a tour, and booked our girls into a Suite here. I was so pleased when, after a week, I came to pick them up and found two happy dogs. I had called a couple times during the week, and was assured they were both great, but upon seeing them, I knew they truly had enjoyed their vacation as well. I have left my dog here several times in the past year. Tried another place closer to home that was much cheaper, but my dog became very sick there so now I am back at creature comforts inn. The front desk staff is very nice and I have always had my stays accommodated. I bring in my own home made refrigerated food that they feed her and she has never lost weight during extended stays. If you're boarding longer than a week they will even bathe the dog free of charge. You can also pay for additional playtime. They have bigger suites for potty trained dogs (mine got kicked out for too many accidents ). Lol. It's a bit of a drive for me, but as of yet, I haven't had any issues yet with my dog stays. She's always happy and healthy when I get her back from extended stays. read more

We used Creature Comforts after our usual dog boarder fell through, and we were not disappointed. For $20 (and actually the first day was free!) we kept Pop at Creature Comforts all day. I don't love that he's in the kennel alll day, but they do get 2 hours of play and that is more than he would get if he was just home solo. He seemed happy and tired when we got home, so it was all worth it. Will definitely bring him back here! read more

Cat Grooming Apt: The reason why I am giving them 2 stars is because their communication was absolutely terrible. I made an appointment for the groomer to get the matts out of my cat's fur which, admittedly, were pretty bad. On the phone, they told me I could drop him off on the day anytime after 7am, I told them I would be there around 10am. No problem. I called again the morning of at 8:30 asking if it was fine to bring him in earlier. Sure, again no problem. The problem: It took them 6 hours to call me and tell me they couldn't groom him. Apparently, what I found out when I picked him up, is that the dog groomer is severely allergic to cats and was working all morning and afternoon so my cat could not have been looked at until she was done. My cat is hypoallergenic so that is not an issue but fine to take caution, I understand but why did the two people I spoke to fail to tell me that?????? I wouldn't have made my poor cat sit there stressing out all day had I known and would have brought him in after the dog groomer left! The reason why they couldn't groom my cat I understand. Apparently because of how bad the matts were my cat was being aggressive when they tried to work on him and recommended him be sedated at a later appointment. Okay, my cat's a cat - he doesn't like people doing things to him, I get that and I understand it may be easier with sedatives. My issue is the lack of communication/ information. The cherry on top: when I asked why they had waited so long to see him, the dog groomer very rudely told me that she had told me on the phone that he wouldn't be able to be seen until after she was done. False. I never spoke with her on the phone and I did not appreciate that 'tude one bit. The only reason why this gets 2 instead of 1 stars is because the cat groomer (who was very nice) told me he had been in the play room all day with fresh litter and water so hopefully his prison sentence wasn't too traumatic. read more

I left my dog there for a visit and he was perfectly fine. When he was picked up, we were told there were no issues but when I arrived home I noticed he wasn't himself. The next day he was extremely sick and I had to make an emergency appointment at PetSmart only to find out they neglected to watch my dog and he scratched a hole through his sweater and had a huge welt on his side. Somehow a flea got on him during his time here, yet no one could tell me anything. He was groomed the weekend before arriving here and he was perfectly fine. Of course when bringing this to their attention no one could give me a definite answer on anything and got pretty rude when learning the severity of the issue. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE ! read more

We are very disappointed in their services. We used them ~4x and all went fine, until our most recent visit where they told us our dog was "tolerated this time, but never again" because of her barking. If she was barking non-stop, why didn't anyone check to see WHY? They said she barked every time she saw the dog next to her. So why didn't anyone hang a sheet, or move her or the other dog? She came home with diarrhea, and they told me no one watches her outside, so they don't know how long she had it. Having worked at an animal hospital myself, I know how it works, and how our pet should have been treated. She was neglected because of her barking (which she never does at home) and I am disappointed that no one cared enough to help her or make a change to calm her down, ESPECIALLY given that she has a heart condition. Further, when I called half way through her stay they told me she was doing great. We will never again take our pet here, and given the treatment we and our pet received, I recommend you don't either. read more

We've used creature comforts several times to board our dog. They do a fine job and their rates are decent ($22/night). Their hours are Monday - Friday: 8:00am - 6:00 pm, Saturday: 8:00 am - 1:00 pm, and 2 hours of Sunday pick-ups. There are no after hours pick-ups. An extension of their hours of operation (at least for pick-ups) would be great. read more

Used many times but will no longer use them for boarding. They make us separate our dogs by saying one attacked the other, but we nor our other kennel have ever had this issue. They stay together every day. Also disagree with their pricing now and the lack of concern/engagement from the owner. read more

I allowed my babies (dogs) to stay here for 6 nights while I went on vacation. When I reached to hug the first dog, I felt something slightly damp/mushy on her coat. One of the employees wiped it with a baby wipe, so I just figured it was some dirt from being outside. Anyway, I kept smelling a foul, poopy odor as we rode down the street, and I caught a glimpse of her coat and the hair looked stained. After we got home, I was so shocked to see that she was alost completely covered in poop! Why was she allowed to leave like this? How long had she been like this? I got her washed really good, but she still smelled kinda bad. Later while she napped, I noticed a small bloody cut on each side of her lip! I contacted the manager and she could not give me any explanation - other than my dog may have laid in the other dog's poop, and she may have cut her mouth biting a fence. The manager did agree that my baby should not have been let go in this condition. I was not present during their stay, so I have no proof of what happened. I am just hurt that this is the care they received (little or no supervision?). I gave this as much as 2 stars because my babies have stayed here before with no problems. They were always happy to arrive, and healthy and happy when I took them home. read more

I will not be returning to this place. My dog has had a lot of experience boarding in kennels prior to moving to NC with no issues to report. I chose creature comforts knowing it was close to home and that it is attached to a Vet so it must good... WRONG! The first trip my dog was there for a weekend and after bringing him home he had some odd scabs on his back inner thighs. I was only 90% sure they weren't there before I brought him and being that he is a bit neurotic I did not call and complain. Recently I needed to board him again for a weekend and was sure to inspect him thoroughly before drop off. When I picked him up I didn't notice anything right away. After a bath and a nap I was looking at his arms and legs and was horrified when I saw large scabs on 3 sides of his left upper arm. There is no way it was from him nervously gnawing or anything like that. I called and asked to speak to a manager. She had left for the day (odd it was like 2pm) I explained what I found to the girl on the phone and was transferred to another woman who told me that my dog doesn't sit still when he is there and he paces. She said that she didn't notice anything awry with him but that what she has seen happen with other dogs is that they graze up against the grate and the food and water bowls which catch their skin!!!!! Ok so this is something that has happened before and noticed but yet the bowls causing the problem have not be remedied? Odd. I told her I was glad to hear he wasn't in a dog fight or had his paw stuck in a chain link fence for a day as that is what it looks like. I hung up annoyed that she pointed out my dog's behavior and admitted that it was no big deal and happens. Also, they claim to be accredited by the American Boarding Kennel Association, I did a search and Creature Comforts Inn did not show up... I made sure to tell the girl on the phone this but she said she isn't the right one for that information. Spare yourself the headache and your pet cuts and bruises and go someplace else. I just want to start by saying that I have never written a review in my life but feel this place deserves for people to know of the lack of competency of their groomer. I dropped my cat off at 8 am to receive a call at 2 pm that the groomer had just started on my cat. She calls me at 2 pm to tell me she doesn't think she can groom certain parts of my cat because his mats are too close to the skin. I arrive at 3 to my cat having what is the size of a baseball cut from his fur with tons of mats still left on his body. I have had my cat groomed many times by other groomers and NEVER had a problem with how close to the skin or the location of the mats. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone looking to have their cat groomed. My cat was at the place from 8 am until 3 pm for no reason. It would have been appreciated if the groomer would have called earlier and advised me she did not feel comfortable grooming my cat or at least called me when she knew she wouldn't be able to groom him instead of allowing me to show up hours later to have nothing done to my cat. The groomer told me that I should try taking my cat to another groomer to have the rest of the mats cut out. That raises a red flag if a groomer tells you to take your cat to another groomer to have it shaved properly. I would give this place negative ratings if possible in regards to their groomer. read more

It's a reasonably priced place to board your dog and it happened to be close to home, but after our last experience my dog will NOT go back. Many times he's come home dirty, like a grime on his coat, but I though eh its a kennel it could be worse. This time I picked him up as they were walking him from the kennels he was coughing and sneezing and had a severe reverse cough. I thought he was just excited and it was from him pulling on his leash. When I got him home his coughing and sneezing became worse so I called my vet and the kennel to let him know my dog's symptoms and that he was going to be treated for kennel cough. I talked to someone who tried to pawn me off on a staff person who was working that day, but never bothered to call me back. I called and left a message to speak with the manager and someone called me back the next day and said that they were too short staffed and "had been running around like chicken with their heads cut off". I told her my dog's symptoms and that he was being treated because this is highly contagious and she should let other dog owners aware that their dog was exposed but she played down his symptoms and told me they did not observe him coughing at all and did not notice the huge scab and bleeding he had on the tip of his nose from apparently putting it through the run. I do not feel my dog was well cared for and it was obvious from my talk with the staff that they didn't seem to care. I should have listened to the other reviews of people talking about their dogs coming home from their stay injured. If you want piece of mind that your dog is safe at the kennel DO NOT USE THEM. read more
