Recently tried Pup's Day Out for my golden retriever, who is five years old, and we're loving it! Clean, attractive facility for both humans and dogs, easy drop off and pick up and reasonable prices. At least one of the owners of the facility is always on site and in my experience, they're very invested in the well-being of their customers - again, dogs AND humans! I especially like that they offer flexible time slots: 3 hours as well as half and full days and discounts for buying a package of sessions. *This review is only pertaining to grooming. Staff very friendly on arrival - female at counter took notes on type of grooming desired "all over, full body trim" for my Australian Shepherd. (A bit odd the groomer herself was not speaking with me directly but put faith in her being a professional and my dog being somewhat common/well-known breed.) I specifically stated no shave. I'm all for a summer cut, but my baby was sheared! About 0.5-1in left on her, shaved her belly, and nicked her paws (discovered after we got home). Totally took away from integrity of the breed and it's cut. The technique used did not look anywhere near professional. read more

My dog has been going to PDO since he was 6 months old. He's almost 9 now. PDO is his second home and his other family. I trust them completely with him and any other dog. No one has done a better job of caring for my dog (other than me :)). read more

I can't say enough positive things about Pup's Day Out. I have been taking my French bulldog to PDO for over a year and half. The team is always attentive, communicative, and ready to play. They always greet us with a warm welcome although I don't know that they can be as excited as Figgy is to see them. She drags me to the door when we pull up and loves to hear "Do you want to go to SCHOOL?" Her ears perk up when she hears the word "school". The team gives me updates on her day and they even let her rest behind the desk if she overexerts herself. What original attracted me to PDO was their no-crate policy but what keeps us returning is the trust and service from the team. They also offer boarding services and grooming services which is super convenient for those doggy parents on the move! read more

I give a star to the guy at the counter. The groomer, on the other hand, deserves nothing except this warning to anyone that is thinking about taking your beloved pet to her. With spring starting and warm weather showing its face on occasion we took our thick coated puppy in for a grooming. After quite an awkward discussion of what we wanted him to look like, we felt like the woman's experience was enough to make up for the absence of people skills. We were mistaken. Upon picking up our dog and seeing/dismissing a few spots that were considerably longer than the rest, we got him home to find a 2" long fold of skin that looked sort of like the flap on a sealed envelope. We went back and asked what happened; we were told she knicked his stomach a bit and they put Neosporin on it. Further inspection led us to believe that some sort of crusty looking super glue was used to hide a knock. More time passed and we found that we were correct once part of the glue pulled off and showed bloody scabs underneath and their origin, the deep wound. We were, and remain sick to our stomachs. We were not told of this cut and wouldn't think so bad about a small accident, since knicks do happen, but since this is considerably more than a regular knick we are stuck worrying about infection and cleaning up blood. Groomers should inform owners of accidents and vet visits should DEFINITELY not follow groomer visit. Anyway, I added a picture of the cut to this site and do not recommend you trust the woman with your family member. The boarding and day care should be ok since I don't think she is involved. read more

I'm new to the area and I turned to Yelp to help me find a groomer. I made an appointment with Pup's Day Out after reading the great reviews. I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately my overall experience was mediocre at best. Upon arriving I was greeted by two friendly and welcoming workers at the counter (I give this place two stars for the great customer service I received at the counter). The guy at the front counter went to tell the groomer that her next appointment had arrived. She seemed annoyed and bothered by this news. She came over to me and asked what I wanted. I told her what I wanted but evidently didn't answer the question to her liking. She seemed frustrated and asked me again this time raising her voice a little. I have to agree with Jon P. that this woman completely lacks people skills. I leave my dog and two hours later I receive a call that my dog is ready. When I pick my dog up I see the cut is okay but the area around her eyes are still a little dirty. I never had this problem with my previous groomers and this leaves me feeling that they don't do a thorough job. read more

My boyfriend and I had to go out of town at the last minute and needed someone to watch our dog. I did an internet search and found Pup's Day Out, and decided to give it a try because of good reviews. The guy I spoke to on the phone to make our reservation was very friendly and helpful, and much more flexible about last-minute changes than other kennels I contacted. Our 1.5 year old lab mix, Emma, is a very social dog who loves to play and I was pleased to see that Pup's Day Out included daycare in their boarding pricing, not as an extra charge. When we brought Emma in we loved the new, clean facility and the friendly staff who are clearly all dog lovers. I appreciated that they let us bring Emma's own food, treats and bedding so she would feel at home. I also liked that they have a limited amount of boarding space to ensure personal attention to the dogs, and that each dog has their own private room, not a crate. There was a full behavioral questionnaire to fill out so they could get to know Emma, and they did a social evaluation of her as soon as we brought her in to make sure she and the other dogs would be comfortable. Although they're a relatively new company, Pup's Day Out has a good number of daycare visitors each day so Emma had plenty of dogs to play with. When we picked her up we were given a full, personalized report about her stay, and she was both exhausted and thrilled after her playtime. We have taken Emma to multiple other daycares and boarding facilities in Raleigh, and I really feel that Pup's Day Out is the best balance of personal attention and social activity with a staff I really trust. This place is so great!! I have kenneled my 2 yr old Shepard/Lab mix with Pup's Day Out several times now. I have to go out of town on the weekends a lot and wanted to find a place I could trust. He is a little shy and such a cuddlier, so I wanted to make sure the place gave him a lot of attention. This is what he gets EVERY TIME at Pup's Day Out. I can tell he get plenty of exercise and always loves playing with the other dogs also boarded. He is so excited to go there that I don't think I am even missed. I also love that he has a large sleeping area and not actually "caged". The owners are also AMAZING! A couple of weeks ago, I was not able to get back in town before Pup's Day Out closed. I arrived back around 9:15 pm on Sunday evening and someone came out (after hours) to meet me at the store so I could pick up my dog. They go the extra mile every time and are so caring. Pup's Day Out is a great business with owners/staff who are very clearly passionate about what they do and the dogs they care for. This review is not meant to be a criticism of the business they run, as I think for 90% of dogs it is a great spot. That being said, we had an issue recently while boarding our dog over the weekend that I felt I should share. We have a 1.5 year old lab who is extremely excitable and plays very hard. We thought it would be great for us to be able to leave him at a spot where he'd get exercise while we were away for 2 nights. We had left our pup for the day camp previously, and he absolutely loved it and about drags me over when he sees the door to the building. We picked him up after 3 days of play camp and two nights of boarding and upon getting home realized something was wrong. He was shaking terribly, had the runs, was refusing to eat, and acting completely out of it and would barely lift his head. We had never seen him this way and were terrified. We got him to the vet, who after a quick evaluation and some tests told us he was severely dehydrated and needed IV fluids immediately. It turns out that some pup personalities will play until they literally make themselves sick (or worse) if they are not forced to take a break and rest. To be clear, I am not blaming Pups Day Out for this happening. I am sure that my dog was playing until we picked him up on Sunday so they would not have noticed anything abnormal. They were also very concerned when I called about it this morning. That being said, it is important to consider the personality type of the dog if you are going to leave them there for a few days. If you do have a dog that plays too hard usually, tell them when you check in that he may need to be forced to take a break during his stay. I am sure Pups Day Out would accommodate that request since they do love the pets so much. I do think it would be great if Pup's Day Out would provide "down time" as an option for dogs that are there for extended stays. We have used boarding facilities previously that have a nap time from 12-2 for boarders, and I think that could be a good solution in the future. read more

I bring my 7 month old pup here once a week & she LOVES IT. When i pick her up, she falls asleep in the car before we can even get out of the parking lot. I thought it would be a good idea for her to go to a daycare because she is very timid around strangers, but if she sees another dog get pet or say hello to a person, she's less afraid. She's been there for a full day of daycare about 5 times now & she now runs up to the workers when we drop her off in the morning because she is so excited. I'm very happy with how the daycare is helping her socialization. Although they don't have camera for you to check in on your pup, they do take pictures & post them on their Facebook page & I can tell by her face in the pictures that she is having a blast. So far I have great experiences at Pup's Day Out. All the employees I have encountered are super friendly and really have a love for animals. My dog is super shy and they basically let me know she is a bit of an interested loner. No shock to me. Due to her timid personality they keep her out front in the puppy room. I appreciate this and love seeing her excited face when she sees me walk in to pick her up. As others have mentioned I do wish they had cameras. You just kind of have to go in blind and trust what the employees are saying. But, I find their day care rates to be very reasonable, especially if you only need a half day. Layla will continue to come here when I need a dog sitter for the day! read more

I hope I'm not biased by the location - but this place is nestled on a busy road near my house and it's great! You wouldn't expect it from the street. The prices are really fair and the service is excellent. Never going to Petco for my grooming again! They make you feel like your dog is special, not in an assembly line. Now, I'm not sure how technically savvy they are since my maltipoos pretty simple to cut - but if you live near here and are in need of a groomer look no further. read more

I took my springer spaniel there and overall she came back okay she got an all over even cut with springer ears and face but her ears were still dirty when I got her back as well as weird wispy patches but being cut....She was in much better shape then I sent her though for 60 dollars I expected alot more maybe a bow or doggy fragrence....I know it seems trivial but its the small things that leave and impression. read more

This is definitely my new favorite in Raleigh! My dog, Augusta, needs a little socialization every once in a while, and I'd been looking for a dog daycare that was convenient to drop in/out (and reasonably priced, too) for a while. Always a constant battle finding a place that checks both boxes. I called one afternoon to ask if I could walk in and look around, and they were so friendly and accommodating. The building was clean and the dogs seemed very happy! After taking a temperament test, Augusta was good to go. She came home last night after her first full day of daycare and was exhausted- they definitely wore her out! She seemed like she had the best time playing with her new friends. I'll be checking out their boarding options too, and can't recommend them enough based on their friendly, caring staff and affordable prices. So happy I found Pup's Day Out! read more

Have now boarded my fur babies here multiple times, and am amazed at how happy they are to leave me! When I've come to pick them up, it's as if they didn't even notice I was gone. This is in stark contrast to their demeanor after being kenneled with the vet - the heavy, almost metallic scent they put off when distressed was extremely strong, their coats were rough, and they had lots of energy to burn. . After Pup's Day Out, their coats are soft and they are happy and exhausted. Can't recommend highly enough! read more

I love Pup's Day Out! My dog goes there at least one day a week where she is loved and attended to by the excellent staff. Pups Day Out is a wonderful boarding and play care facility in Raleigh. Annie and Kyle and the staff really care about the dogs and it shows which only enhances the experience. You always go in feeling confidet that your dog will get the utmost care when left with these individuals. Furthermore, their prices are AWESOME!!! Some places nickel and dime you - $3 belly rubs... an extra $2 to administer medication... prices attached for playtime if you board... NOT these guys! The belly rubs are FREE and the dogs play all day... truly! They receive more attention here then most kennels I know of. The best way to describe it is to say that this place has a more "homey" feel versus your average kennel and I think it is because of the people, the way it is layed out and the fact that whenever you go in, they often have several of the boarded dogs playing or chilling in the front, behind the desk with them.... again, the dogs get way more ATTENTION! :-) Also, the facility is clean and new which I really appreciate. Last, I have to say that they support local rescues which is a huge deal because giving back to the community is key. Anyway, if you are looking for super place to board or do doggie day care.... this is the place! You won't be disappointed. read more

OMG the groomer is the best I've seen in a long time.I was clueless in how I wanted my dog haircut. She went beyond what I thought it would look. It's kind of hard to review this when I'm not quite so sure what is happening with my pup during the day. Unlike other puppy day cares, Pup's Day Out does not have cameras for you to hop onto during the day to see what your furbaby is up to - but the price reflects this as well. For 5 hours, you pay $15 and for 5+ hours up (up to 12 hours during work days - 7am to 7pm) it's $30. All I know, is that I can vouch for the fact that my puppers is knocked out most of the evening and I have that loving feeling that I don't have to worry too much about my pup's pent up energy. It's another plus for being 3 minutes from my job - so it's super convenient for me. The employees are all very friendly and answered my many questions. My deduction for the one star is that they've turned me away already on several occasions for not having availability for me to bring her. I guess this is good that they know they can only handle but so many dogs, but not so good for my pup on long weeks when I have to work long hours without much opportunity to get her energy out and socializing.... Apparently, they are under renovations and have had to shut off part of the facility which is what may be the reason, so we'll see moving forward. read more

I am so happy to have Pups Day Out in Raleigh. My dog Mildred gets so excited when we pull in the parking lot and she doesn't want to leave when I pick her up. I know she is in great hands, and the staff care for all of the dogs as if they are their own. The doggie daycare has helped her overcome her separation anxiety almost completely. This is the best place I have found, and probably will find, to board my dogs. They have been to many different places but I never worry about them when they are here. The staff truly treats the dogs like they are their own and it seems like they play with them constantly, at least according to all the fun pictures and videos on Facebook. I have watched videos of my dogs at other daycares where the staff just stands there and sprays them with water bottles when they do something they don't like instead of interacting with them. My puppies (2 yrs and 6 months) are tired for days after, which is hard to do with this bunch. The staff makes this place amazing! I am very thankful for Pups Day Out! read more

Signed up for Yelp today to leave this review if that tells you anything. Made an appointment for my two golden retrievers on 11/8/17. I told the man on the phone I had brought them before but he couldn't find me which was fine. So I show up with my two goldens on 11/11/17, one is over 3 yrs and one is 9 yrs old. When I get there the girl at the desk says, the groomer needs speak with you. Weird but ok. So she comes over and proceeds to tell me the last time she cut the younger dog, the dog was nervous and she was afraid she was going to cut her. I explained to her that I drove 40 minutes to their facility and I expect them to cut the dogs and when she initially cut the dog in the past she was a year or less and now she is over 3 years old and has had many haircuts from me as well as other groomers. I also said that since I drove 40 minutes I feel like it's inappropriate to call me the morning of the appt to cancel. So she said fine, I will cut the dogs but I need to charge you $85 for each. I said, you know what that's fine! Then she proceeded to tell me she wouldn't cut the dogs??? So then she said, I am going to get the manager. I said great idea, please get the manager. Before she left to get the manager, I explained that I had another appt in Raleigh so I needed to leave ASAP and couldn't bring the dogs to my appt which was the point in why I made their appt 45 minutes before I had to be at my appt. Ten minutes pass by and I asked the girl at the front what is going on. Finally the "groomer" comes back out and says, hi, what do you need? I said, you are supposed to be getting the manager?! Where is the manager?! She said, the manager isn't here. So basically what I determined is she lied about the manager coming out and she was just trying to dismiss me. Before she came back out, I had determined she isn't capable of grooming my dogs, nevermind any other type of dog. So I let her know why she is unprofessional as well as her place of business. I plan on taking this up with the real manager (I hope) on Monday. So summing it up, they call me to cancel my appt day of because they can't handle cutting golden retrievers, the most friendly family dog, and do not give me any valid reason as to why this is ok. I don't know about the dog day care. Seems to be wonderful. All I know is that this groomer in particular is very inexperienced, as well as unprofessional and rude. I am not a groomer and I have cut both my dogs many times with no problems. These people are supposed to be the "professionals" or "experts" and this lady they hired is far from that!! read more

This is the only place I will ever board our dog! Having recently adopted a sweet rescue lab puppy, we were nervous about finding someone to take him in one weekend and love him as much as we do. Almost everywhere I looked, even our trustworthy vet clinic, crated dogs most of the day and all of the night. At Pup's Day Out, our puppy was not crated at all. He spent his days playing with all the other dogs (great for socialization skills!) and at nights and mealtimes, he had his own large room, that we could fill with his bed and toys from home. The individuals who work there seem to genuinely enjoy spending time with the dogs and building relationships with their clients. When we picked him up on Sunday, he was in a great mood, happy to show off his new "friends", but exhausted from all his playtime. Their prices were great (it was the same cost, sometimes cheaper, than other places I looked, and a MUCH better experience). They also have grooming and daycare, which I will definitely start doing. With how amazing Pup's Day Out is, there is no reason to ever take your dog anywhere else. read more
