For all things PET, I usually head to PetSmart. I came across Pet Mania while doing some grocery shopping at the Harris Teeter that is in the same strip. I needed some supplies for my Conure Parrot.
So, I wandered in and was promptly greeted by a man at the counter (I think he's the owner). He asked me if he could help me find anything, and he pointed me in the direction of the bird supplies. I was glad that the had a good selection and good brands of bird food and toys.
When I went to pay for my arm(s)ful of stuff, the man started asking me about my bird, and informed me that he would trim the beak and nails for no charge! Now, I wouldn't normally let just anyone handle my 17 year old ornery bird (he's a major biter!). But, I felt at ease because the man had his 20 year old, VERY large parrot in the store with him, that he'd raised since it was a baby. So I went home and got my birdie, and headed back for the nail trimming. He really handled my bird with care and did a great job trimming his nails.
Needless to say, I was very impressed with my first visit here! Now, fast forward to 2 years later....my 17yr old parrot has since passed on (I miss his mean-spirited-ness!). I missed him so much, I decided to get another conure, this time, as Sun Conure. She was fed a specific diet by her previous Mom, and on the way home with my new addition to the family, I decided to stop at Pet Mania to see if they had the Zupreem brand bird food....YEP they did. It's a little pricey, but I'm so impressed by the friendliness and closeness of this store, I don't mind paying a little more.
So, to make a long story short, I really like this little place. You can bring your pets inside with you too (just make sure they are UTD on shots!). read more
