We just completed our beginner's class for our miniature schnauzer pup Dexter at Petco Holly Springs with trainer Andrea Capaldo. She's amazing. Both the pup and us made great progress and we all really enjoyed the classes and Andrea's insights. She's been training pets for around 15 years and knows what's she's doing. We signed up for the second level training class and have had our first session. She keeps the classes for beginners small to minimize distraction. There were 2 pets in the beginner's class and a new student was added in this second level class. The thing that attracted us was the all positive training approach and its working perfectly on our dog. read more

Came to PETCO to get my Pomeranian's first haircut because it's Petco and I expected experienced groomers. After 3 hours I came back to get him and I was told to go pay before I saw him.... See the photos for the $80 result. Initially with the bandana covering him, I just noticed the short cut but upon inspection in the car, I was pretty mortified that this is how he was left. Will never come back here or to Petco again for grooming services. There are so many more trusted places in the area, I really, really regret this. I had to trim it all when I got home so he looked somewhat presentable. If they felt that the job was too big they should have called me and I would have gladly paid for his bath and nails and taken him home. Instead he came back quiet, reserved, and acting strange for the rest of the night. Clearly this team is not qualified and has the audacity to charge $80 for this. Had the "groomer" apologized or acknowledged I would have at least been understanding if this was her first time working with this breed. Horrible grooming experience. I will preface this by noting that I used to go to Petco in Cary. I loved the groomer there, but he left so I needed to find a new place. We initially tried to book with other salons in Apex, but appointments were booked out 4-5 weeks. There is a reason this Petco has availability, the groomers don't have their act together and do a terrible job!!! My mom and I brought our two Shih Tzus in, my mom want as fas as printing off a photo of the dog after a good haircut and left it with the inept groomer at 9:30 am. We were very specific about how we wanted the dogs to look. It's a hot climate so we wanted them short all over. When we dropped the dogs off, all the groomer seemed to care about was upselling us things like nail grinding. We never got a call to pick the pups up. I tried to call the store and no answer. We drove over to pick up the dogs, arrived at 3 pm. You'd think that after the dogs spent hours at the store, they'd look great. We were told us the dogs were uncooperative and that's why they left the face long. The dogs looked shaggy and messy. Our one dog, who is a very docile animal, is not hard to groom. I know since I do touch up trims on them between visits to the salon. It's more like nobody wanted to take the time needed to trim her. I asked for a lion tail, it looked like a mess. It looked like someone shaved the dogs bodies, but didn't trim much of anything. We had waited another ten minutes to pick up the dogs because the groomer was on the phone trying to sell services to another client. I was browsing recent Google Reviews today, I see another customer complaining about this Petco too, he had similar issues with the poor hair cut. Not a good experience. I don't recommend. Waste of your time and $. I emailed the store manager a week and a half ago, but never heard back from him either. read more

Terrible experience with the grooming. We got there and couldn't find our envelope on the desk and no one was giving us assistance then once someone finally came out she was very rude. We paid and waited for about 15-20 minutes for them to bring our dog out and they brought him out AFTER they got someone else's dog who arrived later than us. His grooming was done about an hour to arrival, we saw him sitting in the crate for 15-20 minutes. Someone finally brings our dog out and his eye is completely swollen shut and burning red. We get to the car and he starts yelping he can't even lay on the side with his hurt eye. If he got poked or soap in his eye, I would've wanted to know. He's now acting completely off and won't even rest his head down to sleep because of his eye. I heavily do not recommend unless you want to drop $$ on a vet bill. The groomers also did not even cut his eyes or his head like we specifically stated, would be a good idea to pay and tip AFTER you see your pets. read more

It's really discouraging to find a place that touts themselves as using "positive reinforcement training", and then, backs a puppy into the corner and "gets more forceful" with their training techniques. At least be honest with your clientele about the training methods you employ. When this issue was brought to the manager, Mike's attention, it's fair to say he isn't well versed in proper customer service. I'd say his approach is similar to the techniques the trainer Emily utilizes. I couldn't even get the number for the corporate office or the regional manager. Very disappointing. In short, if you're looking for a professional trainer- I'd go elsewhere. Heaven forbid you have an issue in this store, because Mike doesn't have the time or skill set for customer service. May I suggest Petco spend a bit more money investing in training? Quality starts at the top, and this experience has been far from inviting. read more

This location is close to home and I was hoping to love them. We have been here 3x and each experience isn't great at all. First trip was after we adopted our puppy. We had a big purchase, and one item included a dog tag. We were instructed to the kiosk. After numerous attempts we asked for help- the guy with the afro had such a terrible demeanor and attitude. He gave us another tag to try and that also didn't work. Another employee happened to walk by and mentioned the machine was broken for over 2 weeks!! Really! Visit #3/last visit. Came in for dog food. Walked by a few workers, nobody greeted me or asked if I needed help. I needed help loading the big bag of puppy food into my cart. I opted to buy a small one instead. Store was empty, 1:30 in the afternoon and no other guest inside. I went to the counter and the two workers were carrying on their conversation. I walked to the counter and the girl didn't greet me either- I must have interrupted a juicy convo. I asked about pet grooming expense and she said she didn't know. Luckily a manger walked by and overhead my question and directed me to the groomer. The groomers had their face mask under their chin and at that point I just left. I will not go in this store- the employees really can detour what would be a regular customer from supporting their business. I tried finding this address with Google Maps, and it took me down South Main Street, several miles away, not even in view of the store. I called the store to ask for directions. This place is hard to find unless you are a regular in Holly Springs because it is deep at the back of a shopping center access road, without a line of sight to the main road, and Google Maps has no idea where it is. I drove about 35 minutes to get here, so getting to a nonexistent destination kind of fried me. When I called the store, they seemed nonplussed that Google Maps did not provide good directions to their store. They were aware of it, but evidently the management does not care enough to get their store location corrected with Google Maps. Tried to CHECK IN while standing in the store and in the parking lot, and Yelp thinks the store is 3 or so miles away. Irritating. Prices on the specialty dog food seem higher than what I'm used to seeing at Petsmart. Foods seem to have been marked up before they were advertised at a sale price of 15% off the specialty dog foods. I visited on a weekday afternoon, and there were very few customers in the store. I passed 3 employees several times while I was hunting around for my brand. No offer of help. As I am rolling to the register, someone asks if I'm finding everything okay, finally. Upon checkout, I also told the cashier about the difficulty locating the store, and suggested they ask the management to get it corrected. Blah unconcern, again. Now that I can actually FIND this store, I'll probably be back just once a month to get the dog food I've chosen for its ingredients list, but I'll buy my doggie goodies online if I can avoid a trip here. read more

We bring our dogs here to get groomed and have been going for years. They always did an excellent job until a couple weeks ago when we had an 8am appointment. We got up early to get there and by the time 8:20 had hit the groomer wasn't there yet. The store manager came to us and said that the groomers were going to be late. They were already 20 minutes late and my husband had to get to work. The reason they deserve 5 stars is because the groomer called later on that night and said that he would groom both dogs for free and he apologized. I'm writing this review in hopes that it will prevent someone from making the same mistake I did! This past weekend I took my eight month old Chorkie (4lbs) to Petco for grooming haircut and wash. I had booked an appointment at 11 o'clock thinking that I'd be able to watch and observe her first haircut. When I came into the store the person at the front desk started making excuses i.e. since it's her first time we can't guarantee that she was going to get a full cut and the process could take 2 to 3 hours. They then took her and put her into a kennel? What's the point of making an appointment and then placing a pet in a kennel? What we were given was our puppy back with bad trim around her face no body hair cut and some trimming on her paws. The shampoo smelled like Palmolive dishwashing soap? Make sure you ask what kind of shampoo they're using on your dog. Oh they did throw in a complementary bow which we will add to the collection. Final bill $30! my recommendation never go to Petco for grooming services go to a small independent grooming service! Never again Petco! read more

I absolutely love Petco. This specific store for some reason was the worst. As we walk in we get stares, no welcoming or even a smile. Shook it off and continued into the store. Seconds later another costumer walks in, I hear "Welcome to Petco, how are you?" And soon after another greeting for another costumer. Completely shocked, after making eye contact with the staff and absolute silence. It's plain rude. After grabbing some dog food, we approach the counter still no greeting just stares. Another staff member sits against the other counter and says nothing continuing to stare. I have no idea what was going on but our 5 minute dog food run was the most uncomfortable and rude visit at Petco. I will never visit this location again. read more

I was a little disappointed that even though it wasn't busy and I saw several employees walking around, no one greeted me or asked me if I needed help (and I did need help which was pretty clear, but to be honest, I felt a little ignored). Had an absolutely terrible experience tonight. We've had wonderful experiences at this store in the past but tonight, trying to teach my kids to save their money and budget it for toys and things for the new puppy we are getting, I found the manager of this store (or at least the MOD) to be rude, impatient and incompetent. The girls needed to put some things back because they got carried away, and the man was so irritated because he couldn't figure out how to void items. To the point that I finally said, we're clearly irritating you, were just going to leave now. The cashier guy, Sean, was trying his best to help us and was wonderful. It was the manager on duty who came over to help with voiding the sale and I was horrified listening to him huff and puff his frustration and roll his eyes. It was embarrassing to my children and to me. I have spent over 400 dollars here in the past month. I go here because of Shane is the best fish person I know. That being said the last 2 times I have gone there I have been treated like trash! Mike was just the worst, he treated me like I did not know anything and he would not return my dead fish because my water was out of wack. That is why I brought my water to be tested because my fish was dead. Then today I waited for 30 mins in the fish area and nobody would help me. Ok where do I even start. I took my dog there today for a grooming service. He is a Shih Tzu and kinda on the smaller side. I told the lady (it was not this famed Hannah I keep reading about) that I wanted his body cut low because he's so hot now and his face rounded. I didn't want his tail cut because I wanted his tail to grow back out. She pulls out this board that shows the length of the hair and I tell her which one I want. She says they don't do that one, so I asked her why because I always had always gotten him cut that short at other places. She said they only do that if the fur is matted. So I say ok and pick the next to shortest length. She agrees and takes the rest of my request. Ok let me back up some. My appointment was at 1pm. I was late a lil bit I got there at 1:07. So after we get squared away she says its gonna be about 4 hours. Soooooo I leave my house at 4:30 to pick him up. When I get there she was just starting to cut him. She had scissors cutting his fur! okkkk .......exhale. When I looked at my dog he looked a complete mess. His fur is chopped in some areas and with the cut on his back there is patches where you can see his skin. His feet were not done and he has hair still between his toes. His fur looks dull and dusty as if they put powder or something on him when I told her he had dry sensitive skin. I swear my dog has not seen any water all day!! There is no way she bathed him. He was thirsty as hell and I am just not happy with this. His face look matted and his tail still looks flat and dirty. Anybody who has ever washed their own dog knows the difference water and a hair dryer makes. My dog did not get any of that today! Thennnn the man at the register had the nerve to push for me to tip this lady. I was in shock when I got home. I paid $51 for this service today. All I can say is NEVER AGAIN! I don't even think I'm going to shop there anymore. BY the way for those that don't know. Their online prices are much cheaper than in the actual store. But to get this price you have to pull the actual website and item up on your phone and show them. Like why would a store do this?? SO if im dumb enough to spend my money with you in an actual location store YOU CHARGE ME MORE! And it's not pennies people, it averages anywhere between $3 and $5. Have been visiting this location since its opening with our dog, we are regulars at the grooming salon. He goes once every other week to get his nails trimmed and filed. We always call in advance, and are typically accommodated. Today, we called in advance and were told that the salon was open. When we brought our dog in fifteen minutes later, we stood in the salon for fifteen minutes before someone thought to tell us that the groomer left early. The door was left unlocked and the lights on. I thoroughly enjoy visiting this location, and I will continue to go back, but it may be a good idea if the door was perhaps locked and the lights turned off next time, so that customer's don't waste more time and gas getting there just to find out they can't be helped. This locations has always been wonderful, and our dogs adore the groomers there - this was just a note for PetCo themselves to perhaps add this to a closing routine in the event of an unexpected departure, is all :) read more

I shopped at Petco, Holly Springs, NC, my first time today, Wed., 5/31/17, around 11:00 am for some dog hygiene products. Looking for the checkout register, there were no other customers at, near or approaching the register. The salesgirl, who was standing in front of the pay counter, made eye contact with me and moved behind the counter ready to check me out. As I neared the register, I saw a blur of motion behind me out of the corner of my right eye. Slowing down briefly to see what was going on, I looked to my right to see an attractive young lady wearing a pretty spandex yoga outfit pushing a cart at a fast pace. She looked like she was speed walking, and I got the impression that this was her usual pace. I also noticed, between Zippy and I, a sign on a post just behind me so close I could have reached out and touched it. Unable to read it earlier from my angle of approach, I now saw that it read "Check Out" with a large arrow under it indicating that one should proceed behind the sign to form a queue which then makes a u-turn back to the pay counter. I proceeded to take the last 2-3 steps on my course directly to the register, and the salesgirl who had earler indicated she was at the ready to check me out now leaned forward pointing to the sign. She said the line starts there and gestured for me to follow the queue around. I assume this is because Zippy had gotten in line following the proper queue, and the salesgirl was now implying that I was butting in line because I had not followed the queue. So I set my 2 items on the counter and left. If I had previously been aware of or observed the sign, I would still have entered the queue ahead of Zippy. But even if I had been aware of the sign, I would still have approached the salesgirl directly because there was no one else at, near or approaching the pay counter until after I had all but arrived there myself. I will be shopping at Petco again N-E-V-E-RRR. read more
