Phydeaux is now known as Feeders Pet Supply. My experience with staff today (and when it was Phydeaux) has always been great. Today I went because I found out they do dog nail trim & grinds. The staff were great with my dog - and though the service is significantly overpriced, I feel they did a really good job. I did feel slightly concerned for the staff because they don't verify that dogs are vaxxed and they didn't cut her nails on a grooming table (which serves to protect the pet and staff). Knowing my dog is vaxxed and since there were no incidents with my pet (nor harm to staff), it left me feeling fairly ok and hopeful that any future visits would go ok too. read more

TLDR: Excellent product selection and customer service. I have continued to visit this pet store a few times over the years. Most recently I visited twice during their transition to Feeders Pet Supply. At first I thought I walked in while they were closed since renovations were taking place. I was greeted by several employees who said they were open and apologized for the mess. When I returned, the majority of shelves were assembled and well stocked. The store was packed with new items and well organized. Prices are comparable to other pet stores in the area. I like how they expanded to offer products for other pets. For instance, I bought dog treats and crickets for my chickens. Definitely more convenient than going to multiple stores or to Petsmart. What really impressed me during my most recent visit was the customer service. The employees here are incredibly friendly and helpful. You can tell they love animals and are quick to engage in conversation about your pets. One of my dogs has cancer and I brought him here for a treat after his vet appt. I purchased some items and talked with the employees while he ate a rawhide-free bone. I did not realize the mess he made of crumbs and the employees happily cleaned it up even though I offered to. I returned to get a small cookie for him to enjoy on the way home. I was ready to scan my card and instead they gave it to me for free. I really appreciated this and I know my dog did. As much as I love the store itself, the attitude(a) of a few employees has managed to negatively impact my view of Phydeaux. My mom and I came in to shop yesterday with our dogs. We always come here and love supporting small businesses. The store is large and stocked most of the time, however pricing is higher than other competitors. At checkout, the store manager with brown hair, bangs, and piercings gave us attitude. She was unfriendly and backed away from me about 5 feet when I was inserting my debit card. I assume this is because we were not wearing masks (all employees wear masks still). There is NO sign on the door requiring masks and no other shoppers wore them! We are both vaccinated and boosted. I nicely asked a second employee what their mask policy was and she (with a rude tone) said that it was up to the customers. Me and my mother will not be shopping at this store any more because of this rude customer service behavior. We will be giving our money to Unleashed instead, where employees have ALWAYS been friendly and helpful. read more

Good selection of food and treats especially for dogs with allergies. The variety of toys and other supplies are good as well. The low rating is strictly because of their staff. Staff used to be friendly and helpful but now every time I seem to come to the store there is just one woman working and she makes the whole experience awful. She is always rude, cold and unfriendly. She seems annoyed that someone is in the store and annoyed if you bring your pet. It genuinely seems like she doesn't like dogs. Her attitude and vibe makes you feel rushed and like you want to get in and out of the store as soon as possible. I've come here less and purchased less product because of this woman's bad attitude and the way she makes you feel when you're in the store. I love this store! All the merchandise is laid out nicely, and it is a clean store! There is a water bowl for the furry shoppers. My dog loves coming here and getting treats from the workers! Instead of driving into Raleigh or Chapel Hill, I can drive to Cary to one of my favorite pet stores. Phydeaux just opened this location near Cary Parkway and Tryon. They're still getting things stocked, but I had no problem finding what I needed and picking up a few extras along the way. It's set up like the other two stores and so far, carries the same pet products. Also like the others stores, it's a little on the upscale side, but carries brands that are harder to find, mostly available in boutique shops. The employees are friendly and seem excited to be making this new store as much of a go-to place as the others. read more

Phydeaux is awesome! If Zoey was not a tired pup today we would have spent way too much time and money in this store. When I first arrived I was not expecting much but once I entered through the door I was amazed.. Boyfriend and I walked around and grabbed a few bags of treats, a retractable leash, a hardwood floor pet cleaner and toys. I personally thought that the price we paid for it all was great. Plus, all of the staff members were helpful and knowledgable. So far this is my favorite pet store around the area, they have won our business! read more

Was a long time patron since my dog was a puppy, he is almost 3 now, but recently had an interaction that left me at a loss. I don't plan on ever going back. My dog recently had a unexplained seizure and also vomiting and diarrhea just after introducing a replacement bag of Stella & Chewy's kibble from this store. While going back over the bag and things he might have been exposed to, I found 3 pin holes in the bottom of the recently emptied Stella & Chewy's food bag. According to the store manager, this is a common occurrence, which might be fine and dandy, but Phydeaux stores the big food bags on the floor. That is, at any point, dog food in the large bags (which apparently have holes in them, though I haven't ever seen them before) are knowingly exposed to germs, chemicals, urine, insects, etc. because Phydeaux chooses to store the bags directly on their concrete floor, rather than on shelves much like human food is stored. Animals pee on that floor and on those bags, and they spray chemicals on their floor and likely on the bags to clean off urine, and in addition, people track in dirt and germs on their clothes and feet, which are then exposed to the food through the holes in the bags on the floor. I came in to get a replacement bag of the exact same product, but literally every Stella & Chewy's large bag had holes in it, though I didn't see any holes in the nearby Arcana bags or in the Farmina bag I replaced his food with. To add, because I was buying a new bag of food that he had not eaten for a while, I needed some Stella & Chewy's food to transition him so he wouldn't get sick and I politely asked that they at least cover the full price of the exchange for the Farmina bag (a difference of ~$7) or cover the transition bag of Stella & Chewy's (~$23). The manager was not on duty at the time so I was told she would give me a call once she arrived, but I actually had to call the store late in the afternoon to get ahold of her. And she didn't apologize, express any care or concern, she simply wanted me to direct my issues to Stella & Chewy's as if she could not address any of the storage issues I brought to her attention. Had I known the bag had holes in it, I would have never purchased it and given this last issue and the amount of money I've spent at Phydeaux over the years, I won't be returning. I mean, the manager could have even opted for $7 of store credit, I was not asking a lot to rectify the situation, but to offer nothing for their unsafe food storage practices was unacceptable. My dog had not eaten anything but his kibble when he started having the stomach and digestive issues. Thus, yesterday's price is not today's price and new pet stores are cropping up all over the place. Do I prefer to shop at local stores? Yes, but not to my detriment. And guess what?!? All of the other stores I've been to store their dog food on shelves... 6 inches off the floor as it should be, especially if you are aware there are apparently holes in the bags for cooling. read more

I basically have no choice to continue to patronize this store as they're the only ones in Wake County to carry Dr. Harvey's. My dog has renal disease as well as cancer. After extensive research for a diet to help restore some of his kidney function, I bought a sample online of Dr. Harvey's, and he LOVES it. I was pleased to see that the Cary Phydeaux has it, as even though I no longer live in Cary and it's a bit of a hike from Northwest Raleigh, I knew I could reliably get it in a pinch. Well or so I thought. I miscalculated how much I had left in the container and was completely out. Hachi needed the dry mix that very day. I called them that morning and asked for a bag to be put behind the register for me and that I would be by that evening for it. I was told this was no issue, they were happy to help, and they'd see me when I came in. Because Murphy's Law is extremely real, I was held up at work until 7:20. Hachi hadn't been walked in a while, so I called the store to ask for a couple minutes grace period so I could get him out to pee and then drive to Cary safely. I want to explain before anyone jumps on me: I have worked retail and been the person stuck because some customer decided endlessly window shopping at closing time was the best use of their time ever. I know how annoying it is to just want to go home. So I must stress that if this wasn't for my ailing pet AND if there was any other store in the area I could have gone to instead, I never ever would have even tried to ask. And it was his actual food, not treats, toys, a new collar. HIS FOOD. He would have literally had no food that night. A woman named Kelly answered. Before I even finished my sentence or explanation, she in the most condescending way possible said "we lock the door promptly at 8, so if you get here before then we've got it behind the register." AND THEN HUNG UP ON ME. So Hachi's walk had to be pushed aside, I had to break a land speed record down 440, and when I arrived at 7:52, I was greeted to an absurdly chilly reception. Two of the people working, both women, literally turned their backs to me on arrival. The man who rung me up was completely unfriendly, basically did not say a word aside from my total. One of the women AND the man had previously assisted me or checked me out and they were so much friendlier on those occasions, it was like being in a parallel universe. I vowed to never return but again, they have me by a string since no one else sells it in Wake County. If I run out last minute like I did that day, I have no choice. I used to spend thousands here annually, but to be honest Petco has better service and prices than Phydeaux does, and they're only 5 minutes from me. Aside from this one item, they've gotten thousands from me instead. Also I'd like to point out that I see a year and some change ago, another Yelper had the exact same experience as I did. So maybe Phydeaux Cary, you want to do something about this before it costs you a lot more business. read more

recently stoped by for specific brand and although knew they were changing from Phydeaux to Feeders, had been there several times after was announced and hadn't seem much change. Had not been in few months and is completely changed from a unique selection of products to same thing found elsewhere. One thing that apparently hasn't changed is the staff and their attitudes. Two employees were sitting at counter, yes sitting down, chatting and didn't even speak to me until I went up to ask about item looking for and was told no loner carrying the brand. Sorry, but only reason continued to shop there previously was they carried some brands can't find at large chain store. With except of a couple of employees, have found most of the staff was not friendly and when would ask questions they seemed put out that a customer would dare to speak to them. Love the Cary store but the employees are another story. There is one black gentleman who is extremely helpful but the others act like they do not want to be there. They don't welcome you when you enter the store or ask if you need help. They just seem very sour. Again, I love the store due to the great selection but the employees may need more training on customer service. Judgmental, rude, unhelpful employees. My friend and I have been going to the Cary Phydeaux for about a year now and the employees never fail to be extremely rude. We always receive rude glances and looks from the masked employees because we do not wear masks (even though no where does it say they require masks in the store.) they always seem to have something better to do like laughing obnoxiously and carrying on with each other rather than helping the customers. My interaction today pushed us over the limit and we will not be returning. The girl who rang up my items had a massive attitude and shamed me for my choice of training method with my dog. Looking at some if these other reviews, I see I'm not alone in experiencing rude, condescending employees. When my dog was still a puppy a few years ago, I shopped at both Phydeaux and Unleashed. I'm closer to Unleashed and really liked Nicole, Kat and Katie who were so friendly and seemed happy to see us. Yesterday I stopped in to a pizza place next to Phydeaux and had 15 minutes to kill while I waited for my order, so I finured I'd take my dog over to Phydeaux and just browse, let her socialize etc. I felt like we were unwelcome as soon as we walked in. I figured, okay, I'll buy something then. Too hot to leave my dog in the car, too far to drive home, so browsing in a boutique pet store seemed reasonable. I guess not to the two employees who were working and gave me the unwelcome vibe as soon as we walked in. So, okay, "Well, how much are these little bakery treats?" I got a very quickly mumbled reply. I really didnt want to spend $5 on a treat, and I don't even give my dog treats like that (she gets vegetables instead), but figured, fine, I'll buy one. You'd have thought I was interrupting the Queen of England, the way the mumbling employee told me I'd need to wait my turn, as she was busy, she said. Busy? With whom? I don't know, but we waited ... and waited .... until finally the very important employee asked me what I wanted, like I was a nuisance, a nagging child, and she a worn out nanny. The other employee, who deigned to give me some info on a food brand I had been interested in actually interrupted me and said, "Well, I don't know because you interrupted me." Huh? Then she gave me this very condescending spiel about how dogs are carnivores (they're not--they're omnivores) and all this Mumbo jumbo about her superior knowledge of dogs, all spoken in a tone that dripped with condescension and exasperation--like, how could I be so stupid asking that question, and how could I dare to take up her very valuable time. There were no other customers in the store. I won't be back. In stores like that, I expect friendliness and warmth. Instead, from both employees, I was treated like I was just a big hassle for them. I was again in a "Lack of organization on my part bla bla bla" situation. I had tossed my cat feeder station in our move as it was old and gross and was suddenly going out of town the next day for a day trip. As we don't know anyone well enough to ask them to look in on the cat while I'm out, I needed to find a water and food dispenser quickly (and inexpensively). Target, Petco, and Petsmart had nothing in stock and I was not going to pay $50+ for automatic dispensers. A quick phone call to Phydeaux after a google search told me they had both for a great price, so I hightailed it over. The woman inside was polite enough but did not offer to help, so I had to wander through the store to find them. Which ended up being ok because it was such an interesting store. I would love to splurge on some of their products (more for me than the cat because they are so novel). I would gladly come back. read more

I am forever grateful to Phydeaux for having such knowledgeable employees! My cat was recently diagnosed with bad kidneys and I wanted to make sure I was giving her the BEST products with the best level of ingredients for her particular situation (high creatinine levels in this case). I was standing there looking at ALL the different foods and labels, not sure what really would be best. I just knew I wanted something of high quality and fresh (the vet had offered me a not-so-great brand, in my opinion). I wish I knew his name, but he had brown, long-ish hair and he asked me if I needed help. I told him about the high creatinine levels in her kidneys and he was instantly able to help me with veterinarian-level knowledge. I needed low phosphorous, low protein, high moisture foods! Good to know!!! He did research on all the foods in the store, printed out references for me to take home, and walked me through the various brands and complex nutrition labels. Some important info isn't blatantly on pet food nutrition levels either, so he was able to pull special data on the food in-store and offered to make phone calls to the company reps who's info wasn't available. I really appreciated that, because when it comes to your baby (sick or not) you just want transparency into what youre feeding them. Most importantly, he calmed my nerves in that I could tell he cared a lot that my cat should be feeling better. I felt confident when I left, and when I walked in to the store I had felt anxious and really quite upset about the news from the vet. She's my baby, and the employees at Phydeaux totally understand that and also want to make her better, too. Basically, thank you, Phydeaux!! Phydeaux was the opposite, a polite staff who actually went with me to help me find the right items and instead of one option each item I was seeking there were multiple options and prices. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! They were an absolute godsend when I adopted a terminally ill 14 year old cat who needed special food. Not only did they have it but they had multiple brand and flavor options. I've gotten a great pet water fountain from them that is dishwasher safe, senior friendly heated and non-heated beds, reusable pee pads that had more texture than disposables that came in clutch for a wobbly senior kitty, l-lysine and anxiety treats which my new super smart, senior, and picky cat loves. Definitely give this place a shot before going online or to a big box store because chances are they have what you're looking for. read more

Phydeaux is a great place! The store is actually really huge, and they have pretty much everything under the sun. The people there are always very nice and helpful, and the store is always clean and welcoming. You'll find that the items here may be a little more pricey than you are used to, but it's worth it. For example, they had a brand of hot spot/itch spray for dogs I'd never seen before, and I decided to give it a shot despite it being more expensive than what you see at Petco/Petsmart/other generic whatever. To our total delight, IT WORKED! Nothing has ever cleared up our poor pups skin (he has terrible allergies, even the vet spray didn't help), but now his fur is even growing back in his trouble spots. Their selection is awesome, whether you need something super specific or just a basic toy (catnip mice are prevalent and inexpensive, which is a must-have for our home!). I highly recommend checking it out to spoil your pets! read more

Phydeaux is the best! I went to the Cary location to pick up some wet food for my cat, as per my vet's recommendations. The staff is friendly, easy to talk to and kind, especially Nicki, and guided me towards several tasty and healthy options for my cat's dietary needs and picky taste! The store is organized and well laid out, and has an awesome selection for cats, dogs and other small pets and birds. This is an awesome store and I will be coming back for all my pets in the future :) read more

Phydeaux is a local pet store with a few locations around the Triangle, but now there's one in Cary! Located off of Cary Parkway and Tryon Road, this store is a great addition to the Wellington Park shopping center! I'm relatively new to the area and haven't ever been to a Phydeaux before, so I had no idea I was so close to such a great pet supply store! It's pretty big and has everything you might need for your pet. They carry a bunch of quality dog food like Acana, Nature's Variety Instinct, and Taste of the Wild with prices that are on par with other specialty pet stores. They also have a bunch of quality dog treats that don't have filler ingredients. Also, there are a bunch of pet beds, toys, collars, and leashes. I found that Phydeaux carried a lot of harder to find toys too. I was looking for interactive toys to keep my new puppy occupied and they had a bunch that I could only find online! I noticed that there were some small animal items, but since I don't have any, I'm not sure if it's everything that you're looking for. The staff was very friendly and helpful from the moment I walked in the door. I was buying a 22lb bag of kibble and didn't want to haul it around the store while I checked out what else they had, so they brought one up to the counter for me. They also gave me free treat samples for my dogs to try out. TL;DR: Overall, I had a great experience shopping at Phydeaux. There is so much controversy on dog food so I'm skeptic picking up stuff that my dog will eat from other big brand pet store. Such a great selection of other pet essentials as well! This is my absolute favorite dog store ever! Anyone who sees my reviews know that I try many many different pet stores, specifically small business ones. This particular store opened just as I was about to move across the country so I enjoyed it as long as I could. I picked up quite a few odd treas-ie cow hoofs which by the way, while they smell absolutely horrid they last forever and they are super cheap about 2 dollars if that. There is such a huge selection of safe treats, toys, beds, bowls, medicine, and everything in-between. This store is easily the largest holistic pet store I have ever been in and I look forward to stopping by when I come back and visit the NC. Unlike another reviewer I never had to deal with a rude salesperson, while I don't deny that every store has issues, I was lucky that I never had to experience them here. read more

I was extremely disappointed when going into the Cary Phydeaux store. I recently moved to apex and was excited to learn I would not have to drive all the way to raleigh to continue to shop at Phydeaux. When I walked in I was greeted with a very quick hello from 1 out of the 3 employees working there. No one offered assistance as I was looking for a very durable toy for my puppy. After about 20 minutes, of no assistance and being the only customer in there I checked out. Was not asked if I found everything okay, but was recited their return policy on toys. I was extremely disappointed in the unfriendly staff which I had read previous reviews about. But will officially be driving to the Raleigh store from now on. read more

If you are in a fix, don't expect any neighborly treatment from this store. I called the store and was told they lock the door and walk out at 8:00pm. I rushed there arriving at 7:59, and the door was locked just after I walked in. I grabbed the bag of food I needed and and made a brief comment about getting there before closing and no got response from the staff who were too busy counting the money in their register. We were thrilled to have this store opening in Cary and have been regular customers for many years. A few years ago they were very helpful in helping us select food for our older dog that had a medical issue, but it appears that the current staff could care less about keeping customers (and their four legged friends) happy. They aren't the only store in town that sells the brand we buy. read more

Stopped in here on the way back from visiting another Cary business. They have the most amazing selection, they carry some of the best foods, and they are incredibly helpful. I was mistaken in believing they were for dogs/cats only but NO! They have bird items too! They offered to look for items we need but they don't have in stock. Such nice and helpful employees and manager! We found lots of goodies for the birds, the prices are good, and they SUPPORT rescue/adoption and do not breed or sell animals! I get that it's more fun to socialize with coworkers than actually provide customer service, and I get that you'd probably rather not be working on a Sunday afternoon, but when I've got money to spend, you might consider giving me a little more of your attention. 4 employees were chatting with each other rather than manning the register. So I waited, unacknowledged. When one finally came to "assist" me, she continued to chat and giggle with her head turned to her coworkers, without so much as eye contact or a "hello" to me. She then held out her hand for me to pay -- I had to interrupt her conversation to ask "What's the total?" Excuse me for having to interrupt a second time to ask for my receipt. Heaven forbid I interrupt a third time to request a bag to carry my purchase in! This is not my first experience at Phydeaux with sub-par customer service, but without a doubt this was the rudest. I think the staff could use some remedial training. I appreciate the convenience of being able to get my dog's favorite chews here rather than having to order online, but when I have a choice of spending my money elsewhere, you could sure do a better job of showing you value your customers' patronage. read more

I love this Cary location and Phydeaux is absolutely my favorite pet store ever! The staff here is very friendly and always good to my girls. They provide excellent recommendations and even let the girls try samples before I have to commit. They do not carry any "junk food," no Purina or Puppy Chow here. This store focuses on the health of the animals and stresses the importance of proper nutrition and play. I'm so happy we stumbled into this store when it was in downtown Raleigh. read more
