This pet store is located in the SW and is just around the corner from me, so the convenience of this location is a plus. I probably visit this place at least twice a month for toys and goodies for my bestest furry pal Dobby (my adopted German Shepherd/Labrador Retriever). When I first adopted my pup, I wanted only the best for her, so I shopped here for her pet food. I only bought Blue Buffalo for her and Petco is one of the only places that sell Blue Buffalo. You can't find this name brand at Target or Walmart. Blue Buffalo is pretty pricey, but very worth it for your pet. Now that my princess is a little bit older now, I have settled to buying her Nestle's Beyond; which she seems to have tolerated pretty well and she also loves it. If I had to recommend the best dog foods, then you would definitely find it here. This pet store has quality brands and is a bit pricey, but definitely worth it if you love to spoil your pets and you have money to throw away on your fur pals. You can also sign your pets up for training and get them groomed here. I also know that you're able to adopt pets here, but only certain times or days. My dogs are LITERALLY my life. I am very very particular about who I trust with them. They're not perfect they can act up or have attitude but don't we all!? Truly they're good dogs and finding someone who has passion patience and kindness to work with my furbabies is hard to come by. However that is not the case at PetCo Grooming salon on Gosford. MARYSE IS AMAZING! 100000/10 recommend her! She grooms my papillon Oliver who is 5 and she grooms my German Shepherd puppy Gamora. For some reason it would not scan correctly, and was popping up on the register as another item (?!?). Marlo stayed on the phone until the credit was rendered and back on my credit card. Phenomenal customer service such as this goes far above and beyond the norm of what is expected. Marlo exceeded every mark with her superior customer service and exemplary knowledge and skills. Marlo is an invaluable manager, and having this type of loyal and invested associate on your team is like a finding a needle in a haystack, or seeing a unicorn (probably something a PETCO manager has probably actually SEEN!). I bring both of my dogs to Jennifer who is the grooming salon leader. I have one senior dog and a dog who is one but acts like a puppy. She is so patient with my babies and treats them like her own. We call her "auntie Jen" and my husband always makes comments that he trusts her with our babies like she is family. I love this Petco since it's pretty huge and has so many live animals to see- cats, rodents, fish, reptiles, and birds- it was awesome!! Along with this, the supplies variety was just amazing. I wasn't expecting to find what I was looking for specifically- a dog food for my 9 year old Shih tzu baby. But wow! I found it and on clearance. YES! The thing I didn't like was how the store was really unorganized looking when I went in. There were a few cords and I could remember VIVIDLY- the beta fish section, there were a few dead betas just FLOATING in there, on display for the whole world to see. All I can say is that when my Aussie DESPERATELY needed to be groomed and with such EXTREMELY short notice, Maryse in the grooming department made it happen without any hesitation. My Aussie is very particular about people alot of the time and yet he was very well behaved for her. She also grooms my friend's dogs and they come out of there looking like majestic creatures. My go to place to get the furballs groomed for sure. If you're looking for excellent service at a fair price and you want your doggos looking fresh, this is the place to go. If I could offer no stars, I would. There are no staff willing to help. The staff appears to have no desire to assist anyone. The cashier makes herself comfortable by pulling a stool over to the register so she can sit while ringing up customers. Go elsewhere if possible. I give it 3 stars because this store used to be taken care of the tanks looked neglected the reptiles are ok looking you have to get your own food for the lizard which are in a refrigerator next to a empty feeder goldfish tank. Petco has been the groomer for my 5 year old baby. I first took him as an 8 week old puppy. He loves the car trip and not a peep on arrival. He knows where he is going and never voices any barking complaint. The groomer he visits now, Traca is wonderful and Patient with him. Well, it is also a one stop shopping experience. Lets begin by saying that their staff at least both employees that assisted us this evening are far from having knowledge on Salt Water fish tanks, 2ndly both very rude. In addition sadly to say the Salt Water fish section is short from being clean. Most of their Salt Water inventory is very inadequately being taken care because it's full of algae. We were there to buy a Condylactis Anemone (see picture below) price should've have been $20. In turn they were charging us $49.99 for a Bubble Tip Anemone(see picture below) both anemones are very different. I asked the lady at the register that why were they charging us for a Bubble Tip and proceeded to show her the petco picture of the Anemone. She immediately jumped to say "we don't price match ", I was not even asking for a price match, I was just showing her the picture of the Anemone we where buying and proceeded to say this is not a Bubble Tip, and she said "oh well". So I told her that we sorry but we wouldn't be buying it and paid for the rest of the items we were buying. It's unfortunate to see this and to receive this type of service. read more

I had a small Yorky that I rescued from an orchard who was severely matted and needed to be shaved. I had taken the dog to the vet, had it checked and all the vaccines done. I called Petco on Gosford to get an appointment and they made me an appointment for 1:30 the next day. My 17 year old daughter took the pup for me and they told her the appointment was for 11:30 and we missed it. (I had added it to my calendar as we were in the phone, but mistakes happen...). They rescheduled for the next day. The next day my daughter took him back and they said they couldn't groom him because he had a small open wound on his chest ( from where he pulled the matting away). The chest area was bald, so they wouldn't have been grooming that area, other than a bath anyways. They said he needed to be on an antibiotic, my daughter explained he just came from the vet 2 days before and showed the paperwork. They still refused and sent her and the dog away. I took him to a professional groomer who welcomed him with no issues, but the poor dog had to suffer until the appointment was available. Super frustrating experience and sad the dog had to suffer longer because of their incompetence. read more

I have my dogs groomed here at petco. I love Traca, she always does an excellent job on them. But I think the other girls are also good at what they do. If Traca is off work for some reason, I don't hesitate to have one of the other girls take care of my dogs. I also like that you're dogs don't usually have to walk on hot asphalt unless the store is really busy. read more

I took our little rescue pup today for a grooming service. He came out beautiful. He has some nervous issues but he did great. They also advised me of a couple of issues and his sensitivity which will be invaluable info upon his next vet appointment. His groomer was Kassidy and while I didn't speak to her directly she relayed the info to make sure I had information and even gave couple of suggestions to work with ongoing. Very bad customer service, they cancelled my puppies vaccine appt last minute and could not tell me why, and did not try to accommodate another sooner appt being that my puppy is still very little and vaccines are important they tried to make me wait another week or 2, when I asked to speak to a supervisor supposedly they did not have anyone available and I could leave a message to return my call, it's been 3 day and I still have not received a return call back, never going back to them, ery bad customer service and very inconvenient read more

So 1:30 appt. I get in there to drop off for grooming at 1:15. Clerk inside the grooming bubble tells me I have to drop off exactly at 1:30 so his actual groomer can take him in. I presume so he'll get directions directly. I ask "I'm 15 minutes early and can't drop off, what if I were 15 late?" That'd be a cancellation she says. Ok should've just left but hot weather is coming and I'm busy. I think the reason to talk to the actual groomer is so they can upsell and get a spiff. IMO anyway. Post groom I'm told my dog has high anxiety and barks with other dogs, won't sit still, is afraid of the blow drier and generally can't be booked on a weekend. He's 31/2 years old and this isn't his first grooming appt. Not even first here ffs! He isn't afraid of the drier at the self serve bath spot on Calloway. Or a lawn blower, mower or weed whip or for that matter a shotgun or fireworks. Idk must be me when the groomer said I need to bring him in more often because "the breed cut is hard to do when the lines to follow are gone" and he should've but didn't charge me $20 more for it. The breed cut follows the lines of his body which never go away and just because it's hard to do doesn't mean anything to me. Ironically he did an area I asked him not to do and didn't do an area I specifically asked him to do and showed him both. Oh and btw he doesn't bark at the dog park when surrounded by dogs he doesn't know. I'm thinking the groomer had a long day, didn't have patience and was lacking skills for breed cuts on medium sized dogs. That said I've been here three times. First was "the breed dog specialist" and she did a great job. Second she was switched out last minute and the cut was poor. Today was a poor experience, cut and result. Funny how the first groomer was maybe 35-40 and the poor ones were idk 20? Maybe some training or better employee acquisition is in order. Any way I'll be taking my dog and dollars to the person, not at Petco, he originally went to who is booked weeks in advance. I'm thinking this must be because she does a better job than Petco. And why at Petco do you get asked for a tip before you see your dog. The first groomer at Petco got too little and the second two should've given me a my dog a tip not the other way around. More than likely the fail is in the corporate structure. Profit has to happen so to keep costs competitive the groomers are churned and paid poorly. Grading system probably has to do with who is specifically requested on the app and that one gets better pay. This kid should turn wrenches or haul buckets of stucco for a while and learn a trade that'll pay better. read more

I had to make the trek to my hometown of Bakersfield this weekend... and on the way to my brother's place, we stopped at Petco to try to get my pup-a-lup's nail's trimmed and get my brother's newly adopted beagle Chloe a "Welcome to the Fam" toy. This is a new-ish Petco and it was not busy at all when we stopped by. Thats crazy to me... not busy on a Saturday afternoon? Petsmart by my place would be PACKED. First off, they wouldnt trim my dog's nails because they needed a rabies clearance. Jesus. And I know this seems crazy, but I didn't have that document on me , so that was a no-go. So instead, we decided to ask the store clerk where the nail clippers were... she pointed toward the back of the store, which was rather large. Uhh ok. Manfriend said, "So, basically you're saying that they are somewhere in the store." She laughed. I didn't. wtf. However, they do have cute things for my girl. And I since I'm a weird dog-mom and spoil the living shit out of her, I like that. But thats about all I like about this particular Petco. We went to pay for a shirt, a toy, and some treats. The same very precise clerk was working the register...sigh. She took FOREVER. I was kicking myself for getting out of line earlier to go look for the damn clippers. My family and I adopted a puppy and we needed to pick up somethings for her. Looking back we should have just went to Walmart which is in the same parking lot but what can I say, we were excited and wanted to bring our new puppy with us. As we were perusing the aisles we did ask a worker some questions about which dog food would be best for our new puppy. We explained what puppy food she was currently eating and the worker provided some knowledge and pointed out a few different brands to select from. After picking out a new brand of puppy food we proceeded to look for a flea/tick collar, bowls, a dog tag, a bed and a few other items. We spent about $200, which would have been probably half the price at Walmart. The Customer Service was okay, the one worker seemed really knowledgeable about the food but when we went to the register, the cashier didn't seem that great. The experience was not bad but not great, it was more filled with excitement of a new puppy and buying things for her. The prices are definitely higher than other stores but then again, PetCo is a specialty store. I guess I would come back but only if I was not able to find what I needed elsewhere. Just a little too pricey for my wallet, especially now I know other stores have stuff for almost half the cost. read more

Love my pet, but we are not one of those who are willing to spend a fortune on all the pet fluff. Yet, my pet needed some TLC and we brought her to the grooming department. Let me just tell you, for a chain store we got boutique service. Our poor pup desperately needed her nails trimmed and her teeth brushed. We got the basic grooming package. But, like any "mama" I was nervous to leave her there and what her reaction would be. My worry and concern was completely futile....Carter (Jason) aka The Hairy Guy completely put us at ease, answered all of our questions (without trying to upsell us), and took great care of our dog. We showed up an hour or more early to check in on her, to my surprise she was ready and most importantly she was happy. Her nails were perfectly trimmed (and trust me that I am embarrassed to tell you how bad they were) and she smelled like cupcakes.....when she normally smells like frito chips. I know pretty gross. We have decided to make this a regular treat. After we picked her up, we perused the store and picked up a few treats from the treat bar. It was a great afternoon spent, doing a chore I originally thought both ourselves and our dog would dread. read more

This is definantly my go to store for our Royal Canine dog food for my Chihuahua. Petsmart does not carry this food in a 15 LB bag, they only sell the small bag which costs $15.00 and lasts about 10 day and the bag I get here lasts almost 2 months. This store is close to home so I'm glad I don't have to drive all the way to Ming Ave just for food. And the dog clothes are cheaper than Petsmart and have a better selection. I've read other reviews how the customer service is not that great, well I've never had an issue but that's because I go in get my things and bounce. read more
