I brought my puppy in to get a bath, before going in they let me know how much is was going to be and mentioned if he had ticks, he would be serviced and is be charged additionally. I didn't mind. When I picked him up after his bath, he had TICKS. I was so shocked like wtf?! Definitely don't recommend when it comes to bathing your dog here at this location. This was the worst case of animal neglect that I have seen from a petco. Most snakes need their OWN enclosures instead at this petco they have 2 huge tanks filled with 3 ball pythons each. Poor things are sharing a tank that is waay too big for them. Their humidity is 20% lower than it should be and they do not have them properly named so customers will have no idea what breed they are getting. ( Thats like showing dogs as normal, fancy and rare instead of just saying german shepard, pitbulls, etc). Also their boas are housed together which is another no-no. Most snakes have high stress when housed together causing bad sheds, which can lead to even more health complications. I was so sad to see this. They are all babies and look severly underfed. I hope they get picked up by someone who knows what they are doing and not just some kid who thinks they are cool. Otherwise these poor beautiful reptiles will not make it another year in petco's care.. Shame on you petco, you do not deserve to profit off of the abuse of these animals. read more

I took my dog Barney in for his 2nd grooming appointment. They asked if he had any health conditions. I disclosed that he has epilepsy and takes medicine for it, is under the care of a veterinarian and hasn't had a seizure in months. The refused to give him a haircut just for this reason. So, I went in last week with my sister-in-law to drop off her pet dog Mila for a haircut that they had previously messed up a couple days before. When dropping her off, the groomer (Shawna) made a sarcastic comment about how Mila's energy level was annoying. Anyways, we get a phone call 30 minutes later that Mila is being rushed to the vet because of an accident. They would not tell us what happened or anything until we got to the vet. When we arrived at the vet, she had to have her dew claw removed because of the groomer (Shawna) cutting so deep into her blood vessel. When we went back to pick up her collar, no one apologized, asked how she was doing, or even commented on the situation. If anything, they treated us even more poorly for their negligence. After contacting corporate and management, all they have offered since is a bed, collar, and dog treats. Let me reiterate one more time... THE DOG LOST ITS TOE. Anyways, stay away. An accident is one thing, but the way the post situation was handled was extremely unprofessional. Never going back. I advise you all do the same. read more

I actually enjoy this Petco. I usually shop at Petsmart, but I recently started a salt water tank, and only Petco sells salt water fish. I absolutely hate the Rosedale Petco, but this one I enjoy. You could tell the guy at the fish department looked really annoyed but I actually understand that because I work in retail and I also get annoyed with customers. He never once ignored me, and he is really knowledgeable with the fish. When I was checking out, they had a long line so the manager actually backed up the register and rang me out! I have never even seen a manger at the Rosedale location! He even saved me 5 bucks with the whole loyalty card thing. Also their is another lady with shorter hair I always see, I do not know her name but she is super friendly and knowledgeable. You can totally tell the company is under staffed their locations but at least these employees are very friendly! read more

Petco Training Review. Started our training with our foster dog here with Tina Gonzales, and I have to say she was amazing, She really took the time to earn our foster dogs trust and bring her confidence levels up. Gave me things to work on at home with her and do some daily homework, which dramatically changed our foster girls behavior overall for the better. She volunteered her days off to help us socialize her with horses and other dogs, she really went above and beyond. She sadly decided to part ways with petco and we had to finish out our training sessions with the new Trainer Joanna. Well I can say I am so glad we were at the end of our package, Petco really lost a gem with Tina. Joanna was needless to say way below sub par, ALL TALK and NO TRAIN! We spent an hour talking about all the amazing things Joanna could do but she didn't even touch one of the dogs or interact period with them! The new set of guidelines seem like I could save my money and buy a training book! Zero interaction from the trainer other then to trash the old trainer, which honestly left us and the others wanting to get up and leave within 15 mins. Needless to say it was not productive in the least and am glad we were not at the beginning of our 1&2 classes a 12 week period. Tina I rate at 5 stars easily, as she loved active pet parents who wanted homework, but the sour taste we were left with at the end downgrades my over all score to 2! I would not in any way recommend the new trainer or training methods at all, they were lazy and honestly you could get more from YouTube. And to be brutally honest the trainer seemed extremely jumpy around the dogs and was hyper sensitive to any noise they made as if they were in trouble, which basically killed my confidence in her straight away I am not going to lie. Been awhile since last visit/purchase for my pets(3) Boxers.Quality food is everything, insuring good health.Before making purchase I needed to visit restroom. Fairly clean but when I went to use sink.......................the largest cockroach I have ever seen was starring back from the sink. I left without washing and notified clerk. Didn't realy seem to care,as if implying roaches are wanted guests. I'm thinking that if they are in a highly visible spot, they could very well be in the pet food. Exceptional customer service! I am a frequent shopper at this Petco and I have always liked it. However, tonight they went above and beyond! Last night I went in because we just got a new puppy, and needed to pick up a few things! I very stupidly left my wallet on the counter when I was checking out. I didn't have any idea where it could have been! I called Petco as it was the last transaction on my card. The store manager answered, Aaron, and said that I had left it there and it was in the safe. He had even reached out to me via facebook to try and return the wallet to me. I would like to thank not only Aaron but the entire staff for doing the thing that most people wouldn't have done by not taking the significant amount of cash I had, or keeping the wallet entirely! Horrible costumer service from the aquatics representative! We came into the store to buy a goldfish as our families first pet and came out with no fish & disappointed children. The guy at the fish section was incredibly rude once we mentioned what kind of fish we would like and its tank size. I understand we may not know as much about fish as he claims to know, but he literally said we have to buy 5 unnecessary products to be able to buy a simple goldfish. Once we were discussing what we should do, he came back and mentioned that the amount of gravel we had "was way too small" with a sarcastic grin and laugh. Incredibly rude. The least they could do is try to educate the costumer in a friendly way instead of belittling their costumers, especially in front of children. read more

Amanda has started grooming our 2 standard poodles and they look like they are ready for the Westminster Dog Show. She does an amazing job!

So me and a friend went into this Petco location, weren't greeted, and when I was taking a video of the turtles a man came up to us and said, "no pictures of the animals." He walked away and we went around to the other side of the tank to find two of the turtles on the bottom nearly dead, and the other was stuck between a rock and the glass, arm was broken and feet were discolored. Now we know why "pictures aren't allowed." Would give this place negative stars if I could. read more

Very disappointed. Took my dog in for the third time today. First time I was reprimanded for being 15 minutes late (had trouble corralling the dog to get in the car as she was a new rescue dog). Second time told I was ten minutes early, but they'd check us in by the goodness of their heart. Third time today I got an unfriendly greeting at the door (same groomer, but didn't seem to recognize us), and was asked if I had an appointment. I said yes, and she said "I don't think she has an appointment until later in the day, I just checked two dogs in". I said "this is the best I can do, I'm really busy" (I take care of patients and am a single mom). She went back inside to check the time of appointment and if she could check my dog in. Came back and said "Her appointment is at 9:00am, I can't check her in". It was 8:15am. I told her to cancel the appointment, and no, I didn't want to reschedule. In prior years I brought my two springers in, and petco accommodated the working people who aren't free to bring their dogs in precisely at the grooming time. This time around d I felt as if the 'tail was wagging the dog'. read more

Seriously understaffed. I've been here several times and it is always a hassle to find anyone that actually works there that is not at the register. The reptiles look a bit neglected and I always want to adopt them all to take care of them. When you do finally find a staff member they are helpful I just wish there were more available. I usually love this store, and the woman in the reptile section has always helped me when I have questions about my desert tortoise, and she even helped me pick the best food for him. This time she was busy cleaning the turtle tank, and I just needed a heat lightbulb and tortoise food, so I got what I needed and went to the register. So as I was checking out the employee at the register, whose name was Eliot, instantly said "so you have a tortoise?" And I told him yes and he nearly cut me off saying "you shouldn't be feeding him this" and snatched it out of my hand and continued to look at the ingredients and continued to list of the ingredients. I told him that I always feed this to him along with Kale and spinach. Idk he just came off super rude and then he assumed that my tortoise wasn't registered and wrote down the website and said I should register him. I told him he was already registered and that I didn't need to do that. THEN he told me that my lightbulb for my tortoise was too weak! I KNOW what to feed my tortoise and how to take care of him, and he was treating me like I was stupid and was talking to me really rude like I was inferior and didn't take proper care of my tortoise. I will never deal with him ever again. If I see him working the register I will walk out and go back at a different time. read more

I have been taking both of my Goldens here for about 5 years to get toys, snacks, dog food, dental treats, etc. I have always found everything I needed, the staff checks on us and answers my questions. The staff who is there actually cares and remembers me and my dogs, they make sure the dogs health and happiness is put first. Last thing is I take my girl to the grooming salon since at least 4 summers back and her groomer is Shawna who has always gone above and beyond to make sure my pup is happy, comfortable and looking cute. Shawna has become a very great person in my dogs lives. She lends advice and tips and I trust her with my dogs. 10/10 recommend this Petco. The staff, especially Shawna, keeps us coming back. read more

I gave this PETCO a 4 based on cleanliness, customer service and variety of merchandise. I'm not one to avidly shop here because PETCO's in general are way overpriced in comparison to PetSmart or online; this store is no exception. Other than that, this PETCO is average, if not better than most other PETCO stores, it's fairly large and the staff are very helpful and friendly, the store is very well kept as opposed to other pet stores around town. First of all- this place is disgusting & smells like animal crap right when you walk in- I took my son in to see the cats- but before I came (because I live far) I called and asked if they had kittens. They said no kittens but they do have cats we could look at. So I made my way out & right when we get there we ask the lady there if she could point us to the cats, she said aisle 40. We went over there but didn't see any animals, so I asked another lady if she could tell me where the cats were, she said "the guy who has the key to unlock them comes in at 3 (it was 2:58) so I said "ok we will wait, that's in 2min" she looked annoyed and was super rude- just walked away and muttered something under her breath. So I went to the front check it area and spoke with a man - who I'm sure was the same man I spoke with on the phone before I made the trip out as he was the only male employee working. I told him we were waiting for the cats, I had called prior, some employee told me "aisle 40" and another told me we had to wait for a key, so on and so forth. He said " well I'm not sure why all these people are telling you we have any animals let alone cats- we only have birds, fish and reptiles. So now I'm pissed- wasted an hour in this disgusting store for NO CATS while my toddler is crying now because he wanted to see the cats and I promised this to him as a reward, so now I have to explain to a toddler how these people are liars and wastes our time (but I'm not a monster so clearly I just told my son we have to go to another shop because this one sold out of cats). A bunch of bull shit- on top of the fact that the male employee WHO TOLD ME they had cats in the first place- ran away right after he told me they didn't have them. Clearly didn't want to bother being empathetic- especially to a 3yr old who was crying. I'll never go back here again- I would rather get a cat from the rescue center directly anyways- clearly this pet shop treats their animals like garbage and the smell alone could make you pass out. The groomers at the PETCO in Bakersfield on Rosedale Hwy actually do a decent job. My dogs were a mess when they went in, and they came out glamorous! I am not complaining about the groomers. Although I did find it odd that in such a large pet store, the grooming department was out of flea and tick shampoo. I was told my dogs didn't require it anyway, but I still find it odd....The acting manager in the grooming department on Sunday evening was very defensive and snarky! Someone had apparently uploaded my information in the computer wrong, so when I had called earlier to check the status before picking up my dogs, they didn't know which dogs I was referring to. I wasn't upset about that. I get that stuff like that happens. However, when I went to pick them up, the person up front did not know how to greet a customer, nor could she give me the courtesy of making eye contact. She just stared at the computer screen, as if preoccupied and kept calling my dog by the wrong name. After the fourth time correcting this person, I snapped out his actual name out of frustration. It was not an attack, I was just irritated at this point. Rather then trying to defuse the situation with an apology for the mix up, the manager thought putting me in my place in front of other customers and embarrassing me, by being condescending and defensive, was a more appropriate approach. She, while kneeling down putting on another dogs collar literally shouted and told me "IT HAS BEEN A LONG DAY!" Though a little surprised at her response, I said I agreed with her. I thought I would get to explain why I was frustrated, and I would normally apologize for my outburst, but she decided to cut me off, rolled her eyes at the customer that she was helping, and very loudly in front of customers said "THANK YOU FOR BEING SO PATIENT! THANK YOU FOR BEING SO COOL ABOUT IT!" Then turned her back to me , and told the girl that was at the counter to go in the back with the other girls, and dismissed me like I was some kind of Viper that people needed to be protected from. All the while, I felt like I had just gotten bullied. This display was not well intended for good customer service. This person is a child in a position of authority abusing her power instead of looking out for the customers. I am disappointed that this standard of care is the new norm. Customer Service just isn't what it use to be. We are apparently just suppose accept bad incompetent service, and like it, from people that no longer know how to converse, or make eye contact when dealing with a customer. There is no accountability for mistakes, and if we should find this behavior to be unacceptable, we dare not say anything, or we, the customers, risk being put in our place for having the audacity to expect decent customer service at places where we spend our hard earned dollars . I hope that this falls on the eyes of the training staff at PETCO so they can improve their customer service. read more

I signed up for the puppy training and level 2 both classes were once a week for 4 weeks for around $180. I have a German Shepherd which was a pup at the time. For having my first dog and not knowing any better for the 2 months all the owners would litteraly stand around and let the dogs socialize with one another. Occasionally the trainer would give your dog a treat and walk around and teach the dog to sit and lay down. That trainer quit my dog was already around 4 months and didn't know anything so I was the one training her at home. The start of the level 2 class the new manager and a trainer kept apologizing about the trainer not doing a thing. I was not givin a refund for wasting time and money also they were not flexible at all!! Or working with you they give you a day and time that isn't good for you then you miss out on the 2nd class. read more

Giving this place a rating of 1 star because my whole experience was horrible. I normally get my crickets for my gecko at another pet store, but since I was at a business in the area, I stopped at Petco. Every associate ran in the opposite direction every time I tried to ask a question. Couldn't find crickets anywhere. Went to the register where a cashier named Barbara was working and she was RUDE. I told her I couldn't find help and needed crickets. She said, "You see those baskets behind me? I have them up here. What size and how many do you need?" I told her I needed 10 and the small ones. Of course, the small crickets were the size of large crickets. So I gave up and walked out and went where I'm used to going for my crickets and regular pet supplies. Grooming Salon- they don't have good customer service. I went to take my dog to get the works package which is $53! Well there were 2 ladies in there, one was grooming a dog already and she was talking somewhat rude to the dog, she kept saying "stop moving dog" I did not like that, but I was also glad she wasn't the one attending my dog. I have a medium size dog and he has short hair so I understand it doesn't take long to maintain him but I know petsmart takes 3 hrs or so and are super friendly to the animals. They called me an 1hr 30 min later saying my dog was ready. He had a lot of dandruff, I don't think they even brushed his coat. And his nails didn't look smooth at all. She was supposed to file them but it looks like she just clipped them and that's it. Her name is Lisa just fyi! Never bringing my dog here again! I rather go to petsmart, the only reason I didn't take him there was because they were booked....waste of money! My dog is like my child so I expect good service! read more

As a dog food place, this might be an okay spot..... As a groomer, RUN AWAY!!!!! This place KILLED my cat by leaving it in the dryer so long unattended that it burned her lungs and suffocated her!! Worst experience ever. Ask to look around and your quickly told NO.. This is due to the mistreatment that goes on behind closed doors. If you love your animal like family then stay away. Every time I have gone here, I've always had the best experience and all of the employees have always been so kind and even remember who me and my dogs are!! Then today........ I took my pup in for a nail clipping & to pick up some more food..... The lady, Lisa M. who was going to clip my dogs nails was very rude and even rolled her eyes and shook her head at my dogs. Like who does that?! That's your job woman!!! If you don't like animals then why in the hell do you work at Petco? Anyways at that time I was just like seriously??? I almost just turned around and walked away but my poor baby needed his nails done. So she asks me all my info and then basically throws the paper at me to sign and takes my dog. I then go and get their food in the back of the store and as I'm coming up to the register to pay, I see her like basically man handling my dog and grabbing him with this mean look on her face. My husband and I went to purchase a fish for the first time. We only had set up a small 2 gallon tank to start with and my husband asked the tall guy, Justin I believe, for help. My husband asked a bunch of questions to make sure that we had everything that we needed and informed the staff that it was a starter aquarium. The employee was not very friendly but told us some things that we needed. So we purchased a few items and went home to make sure the tank was ready. We came back the next day with a sample of water from the tank to be tested before buying a fish. The water was fine but as we were checking out the employee Justin told us that their water test wasn't accurate. Our fish died two hours after putting it into the new tank. We went back to the store with another sample of water and our dead fish. The young girl that worked there was very nice and said we could exchange the fish. So we went back to the fish area and Justin was there to help us again which I was not thrilled about. He says that he knew our tank wasn't ready so we don't get the warranty on the fish and then tells us that we needed to wait 3 days not the 24 hours he told us the day before oh and an added bonus he told us we needed to buy the safestart bacteria for the tank. Well how convenient that not only do we not get our money back for the fish because he says our tank wasn't ready but low and behold here is another product you need to buy. Go blow me lurch! We will not be buying anything from this store again. We went to PetsSmart after and bought a couple of small fish that didn't die and the staff there was very friendly. read more
