But today I would like to mention a great experience I had at Dog Gone Crazy. I'm a new customer, never been there until yesterday to look the place over and book an appointment for my Siberian Husky for nail trimming. So my appointment was at 3pm today. I arrived about 15 minutes early to allow my dog Lego, to calm down a little after the ride. I was greeted by the other groomers when I arrived and they went to get my assigned groomer. She came out into the waiting area, sat down on the floor beside my dog and her and I just began talking. Click, off came the first nail. Lego didn't know what had even happened. My dog wasn't a great customer but in a few moments and a dog treat or two, he was done. That was an efficient, caring groomer. My dogs feelings were always her top concern. When he was nervous she paused at times to settle the stress level my dog was feeling and me, I got the "old friend treatment" for sure. The prices were really reasonable. I am absolutely an old friend after today. After all I am 75.

However, after the cancellation, I called several other groomers in the area to find a new appointment as we were not available the next day. Every groomer I spoke with explained that a puppy's first grooming is typically a gentle introductory visit with a face, feet, sanitary trim, and nail trim rather than a full groom. The quotes I received from multiple businesses ranged from $55 to $75 for that type of appointment. Based on that, I felt that the $150 quote I received was excessive, especially since the owner did not explain that a puppy's first visit is usually handled differently. I understand that businesses set their own prices, but I wanted to share my experience so other puppy owners can compare services and pricing before booking. UPDATE AFTER READING THEIR REPLY: I would like to update my review because the company's response does not accurately reflect what happened. From the beginning, I told them my puppy's age and approximate weight and sent pictures. I was initially quoted $200, but after seeing the pics, the price was reduced to $150. They also knew this would be our puppy's first grooming appointment. We never specifically requested a haircut. We asked to schedule our puppy's first grooming appointment. Then we were asked to send photos of what we wanted, so we did. At no point were we told that a first-time puppy appointment should not include a haircut or that they would not recommend one. As first-time puppy owners, we relied on their professional expertise. Since they knew this was our puppy's first grooming, we would have expected them to explain what was or wasn't appropriate. Instead, after receiving the photos, they confirmed the $150 price. I have screenshots of our text messages documenting this. After this experience, I contacted at least ten other groomers, and not one of them was willing to schedule a full haircut for a puppy's first grooming appointment. Instead they explained how they handle first time grooming appts. I also have screenshots of our text messages showing that we were never told there was a "medical emergency." Instead, we were told the owner woke up with pain and needed to reschedule the appointment for the following day. This cancellation came only one hour before our scheduled appointment. Which was to our benefit as we would have possibly traumatized our puppy with a full haircut when she wasn't mature enough for one.

I explained that I had once had a poor experience with another dog at a groomer and I wanted to make sure my fur baby Piper had a good experience. She and her assistant were gentle, piper seemed calm and she said she let her set the pace and whether she wanted to up or down on the table. For about 4 years of grooming service we've never had a complaint! They have done an excellent job with very reasonable pricing. Kona was loved there by all. They didn't have to, but the staff sent a sympathy card and flowers when Kona passed away. They all missed him. We live in Tehachapi, but it's been worth the drive down the mountain every month. Even through COVID and groomer shortages, they were always flexible with scheduling Kona. I highly recommend them to all dog owners as your pets will be genuinely cared for during their grooming. I wish them the best and continued success with their business.

The top things we look for when continuing to use a groomer is, low stress, not disoriented, ( believe it or not, a place in Bakersfield, gave our dog back as if she was given medication to calm her, without asking or informing us) NOT the case with Dee!! Other things we look at are, Obvious and obsessive cuts on the body, good nail clipping and filling, timing. And over all when your dog comes back to you happy and energetic, it makes it all worth it. Dee was also great to communicate with. She responded quick and a beautiful attitude once we met. Was flexible with our schedule, we did drive to her since we live in wasco but, due to her being flexible, we where able to schedule a trip to Bakersfield and get other errands done while the puppies got groomed. Will be recommending the whole family and friends to her. I look forward to our next appointment.

I had to seek another groomer. Unfortunately, the new groomer was in a camper with her own pets (maybe had fleas?) after grooming my pups had a bad case of fleas. I hadn't left a review at the time because of how upsetting my experience was. I'll keep it short, my dog's nipple was cut and bleeding as if no guard was used on the clippers. I understand haircuts won't always be perfect, but her sanitary area was shaved too short and the overall cut was uneven. When I picked her up, I didn't see she was bleeding until I saw blood on her bed. After I notified the owner, she suggested that my dog did it to herself (even though she can't reach that nipple and she was wearing a cone when she got home) and then suggested that it looked like a hickey (extremely bizarre comment to make). I know my dog well and how well she does when she visits groomers. Every groomer before and after her visit at Going Mutts has always said she is well behaved and have no issues while cutting her hair. We needed somewhere reliable and appropriate for our dogs. This place is awesome. Like many others said, we came and took a tour of the facility and didn't even have to make an appointment. Everyone of the staff was amazing and Kiwi seemed to like it (she is cranky at times). We will be using these folks for a long time to come. We even tried the self serve spa and our dog Bailey never felt so soft. Her coat was glowing after we just came from the dog park. We're from out of town but we travel in and make this our stop every time. They have helped assist us with getting our dogs familiar with different foods with the samples we get. We get to see what our dogs like and don't like before we commit to it. You don't find that kind of service anywhere else, and it's really nice because it's all dog safe instead of trying to take it into your own hands of trying Google.
