Went here today to pick up some hamster stuff for our cute little Syrian hamster. We always like to take a peek at the other rodents in pet stores to see how they are being cared for. The selection was very small but the part that was the most concerning to me was that the area itself was a mess. There was a huge trash can filled with extremely soiled bedding. Though this isn't a concern for the rodents but it is for the customers. I understand the cages need to be cleaned (at least once a week) but to have that out I. The open during business hours and unattended seems like a health code violation. Other than that like I said the section of rodents is small so if your looking to buy one, I wouldn't make this your first pick. Not sure about cats and dogs cause I'm a dedicated hamster lover. read more

This is a basic Petco like the rest. Nothing speci either. Reason for 3 stars is I love fish and my kids and I always go in to look at them and purchase some but almost every trip I see dead fish floating of at the bottom and fish that look sick ready to die and infecting the rest of the tank read more

Meet an extremely nice associate there was answering all my questions about my snake he was very knowledgeable and friendly however for reasons unknown to me a manager came over and instantly whisked the associate away in mid sentence I'm appalled that a manager could be so rude to a customer not going back to that store ever again read more

I stopped by on Saturday, 4/12, to grab water fountain filters and Himalayan chews (Paige, who works here, told me about them a few months ago, they're awesome!) for my Dachshund-Terrier mix, Chewy. Either myself or my boyfriend come to this location to grab Chewy's food once or twice a month and are always impressed that the employees recognize Chewy (or us) even if we haven't seen them in weeks. The employees are always friendly and knowledgeable, but the reason that I'm writing this review is the following. I had gotten Chewy groomed at PetSmart the previous Sunday and was very unsatisfied with the results (check out the review I wrote, if you'd like), unsatisfied enough to follow-up with the manager and get a refund which I picked up on the way to Petco. Once I had gotten the filters and chews, I went up to the front and was cashed out by the manager of the store. Out of curiosity, I asked her about their grooming salon. She told me that they were great and had many years of experience between the groomers. I told her I was happy to hear that and gave her a summary of my experience at PetSmart. She seemed visibly concerned for Chewy and asked if I would like to have their groomers check him out and at least get him comfortable in their salon for future grooming visits if I choose to use their services. The salon manager checked out Chewy, confirmed that his paws were not trimmed well and his ears were not cleaned properly and invited us into the salon for a touch-up. The two groomers behind the counter came out with treats and were giving him plenty attention and petting him while the manager re-scissored his paws. Then one of the groomers checked his ears and re-cleaned them, then trimmed the little mats that had been missed under his ears. They were attentive, friendly, and I'm very excited to take him back for a full bath/groom service. I expect I will be adding a nice update to this review once that has been done. They really did go the extra mile to make not only me, but Chewy very happy with our visit. I greatly appreciated the customer service, but when it comes down to it, it's a pet store and I feel like the people that work here really do love animals. It isn't "Oh, look how cute" here. It's questions about breed, temperament, training, and an overall in-depth interest in your pet. I really wish I had gotten all of their names to let them know how much I appreciate the awesome job they did, but I guess I'll just have to find them and thank them personally when I go in next time! I will definitely continue taking my business to this specific location and am looking forward to my next trip! read more

HORRIBLE. We bought two hermit crabs from corpus , perfectly healthy and then we decided to get two more from petco and within the first night we noticed the first one was given to us in an unhealthy condition. We contacted petco and they said they couldn't help, we then later found the hermit crab dead in our tank. We called petco as soon as we saw what happened and they told us he was just old and there was no need to make sure that he wasn't sick and she assured us our other hermit crabs would be fine. Within a few days my hermit crab from corpus started to become discolored and would roll over and we just thought he was shedding for a new shell but we walked in to find him out of his shell and rolled over, dead. THESE HERMIT CRABS FROM PETCO ARE INFECTING MY CRABS. They are unhealthy. I would not recommend buying hermit crabs AT ALL from petco. Completely unacceptable. read more

I'm just not a fan of this place. Every time I take my dogs there, they miss patches and don't ever give me exactly what I ask for. Also, the groomers always seem grumpy. read more

Always have the same experience in this store. No one and I mean no one is overly interested in helping. I keep going back as it is convenient to my home. I left frustrated and even asked the cashier why this was always the experience when I shopped this store? She shrugged her shoulders and didn't answer. An apology or an intercom call to an associate would have been the right thing to do. But to save myself the agony of being ignored I now know this is not a Petco I will revisit. read more

We LOVE LOVE LOVE this Petco. Took our little guy for a trim and Sarah and Yumi worked together to help our puppy feel safe about trimming his nails. Rebecca was in the store and greeted us right away and any other time we've ever been in, we always get a warm greeting. IMHO, if you can't greet me you won't get a red dime from me. Kudos to the people of this Petco location and we will continue to frequent here even though we moved further out! read more

My 7-yr-old son wants a pet rat so I dropped by Petco yesterday to check out the critters. I was lucky enough to ask Cheryl some questions and she could not have been more friendly and helpful. Great customer service is increasingly harder to find so I am happy to give credit where credit is due. Cheryl showed me the rats, talked enthusiastically about her own experience as a former rat owner, and even took a rat out of the enclosure so I could meet one and pet it. I didn't ask her to do any of this - she was just being helpful. It was very refreshing to encounter someone who was seemed genuinely friendly and happy to help. read more

This review is for the Vetco clinic that is there on Saturdays. The hours scheduled were 1-2:30 pm. I was there with my dog Henry at about 12:30 hoping to get in and out. Well, it takes them about 30 minutes to set up and get our information on a pad. There was only two people in line at this point. Myself and the people in front of me with two dogs. The vet was not ready for those 2 dogs til about 1:30 and it took another 30 minutes to complete their needs. By then, there were several other dogs behind us and me and my dog were pretty restless at this point. Next thing I know, the people behind me are jumped ahead of me and putting their dog on the table! What??? I asked the young girl with glasses who took our information to find out what the problem was because it was obvious to everyone it was our turn! She apparently screwed up somewhere on that little tablet and the vet crew did not know we were there! At this point there was nothing they could do since the shots were already drawn up for those dogs! That meant probably another 30 minutes wait for us. I realize we are there to get reasonably priced care for our pets but this whole process is ridiculous. They should be there at 12:30 and be totally set up by one since your starting hours advertised say 1pm. Also your people should be trained better on checking people in quickly and effectively since it does get chaotic in that line, the dogs get restless the longer they have to wait. If you're only there for that short of a time, dogs should get in and out quickly as I assume it should work. So I stormed out very upset that after an hour of waiting, my dog did not get his vaccinations because of incompetence. Please review this process because it is not working well. I would not recommend this Vetco process to anyone. There are other places that work more efficiently. read more

This is for the groomer: I usually never write reviews, but I am truly amazed at the unprofessionalism that I experienced today. The lady (Jessica I think was her name) was on her phone when I walked up and seemed annoyed when I got there. Someone else was grooming another small dog, it yelped, then the lady yelled at it... I should have left then. I warned the lady that my dog doesn't like getting his nails trimmed, so it may be a little tough but he's never bitten anyone. I walked into the store to get his food and heard him yelp and bark loudly (which he's never done at the groomers before). When I walked back in to get him, I was immediately greeted by the groomer saying "your dog is very very bad. You need to take him to get training or somewhere else." She then went on to say that he was trying to bite which has NEVER happened in his entire life. This lady is in the wrong profession if she can't deal with a dog that has anxiety about getting his nails trimmed. We've gotten it done numerous times in the past with no complaints. She also shouldn't start the conversation with "your dog is very very bad". Both workers seemed to hate their job. I'll never take my dog there again! read more

Usually we've had good experiences with grooming at Petco... But not this time. We had an appointment but it still took 3+ hours to get our dog from a simple grooming session. When we asked, we were told people who walked in were taken care of before our dog. The cut is terrible and it seemed as if she had been rolled around in dust. read more

We have been a loyal customer of petco for years and have taken our basset hound to be groomed over at the tech ridge location for over 2 years. And was always very happy. We moved over to the northwest side of town so it was more convenient to change locations to the north 183 store. The first time we had him groomed here I wasn't that impressed. He didn't smell as good as he usually did after he was through. To me he is pretty simple to groom because he requires no cuts and we always get the full package (special odor control) . Then we took him a second time and that just did an awful job! He did not smell good at all and his hair was shedding tremendously on the same day. My husband called them the next day to ask if they would redo him because of this and they told him to bring him by. We had something come up and wasn't able to do it until the next week . Then They told him then that they would have to charge us because now it would be hard because he would naturally smell now., and they thought that they did a good job on him . First of all, we never complain about anything even when we need to. We certainly aren't going to try to get something for free . But this store did a poor job ! Both times. As much as it cost to groom him he should in the least smell good. So petco , you have just lost loyal customers, not only for grooming our dog but also all of his dog toys and food! We just got a new puppy that we won't be taking there either . Petsmart ...here we come ! read more

My wife and I came in to get our Dobbie puppy nails clip which we thought would be a quick in n out since we've came to this location once before. Well we thought wrong ! We spoke to ROBERT the grooming tech who informed us that he was " busy " ( while his head was down ) and couldn't clip our puppy nails which only took about 45 seconds the first time we came to this location before. As we began to explain to him that we live in Steiner Ranch and that this was the closest Petco to us , could he do as the last tech did and just clip he's nails right in front of us. He responded by saying yeah I'm busy right now , you'll have to bring him back tomorrow and that he isn't taking any walks in for the day. Mind you this entire time we were there ROBERT looked up once not even to great us but to look up to see us walk in and put his head back down as he continued to look at his computer. Throughout this entire conversation of merrily asking could he possible squeeze us in he said NO you'll just have to come back. The only thing that ROBERT had his hand full of was not helping us with his busy day of being on the computer. We spoke to Kristy who was sincerely apologetic but even that didn't remove the distaste of ROBERTS unprofessional customer service. After speaking with Kristy she said they should would go speak to ROBERT to see if he could clip our puppy nails but at this point I didn't want ROBERT clipping my puppy nails and injuring him due to the lack of care and concern of retaliation for us speaking with management. If your looking for a Petco to go to with exceptional customer service then I would recommend you STAY AWAY FROM THIS PETCO until they replace ROBERT Aka to busy looking at his computer Tech. Friendly staff, clean and organized store. It is always easy to find what we need whether its doggie wipes, treats, chew toys, dog puzzles or dog outfits. I love this location since it is nearby and the items we need and want are available. It's also not too crowded. This place gets 5 stars! My dog loves coming here too, and sniffing everything btw. read more

Brought my 35lb poodle in for an appt. I asked for am similar cut with closer body and longer length on the legs. I got back a sheared dog with sheared legs as well. I was charged the large dog rate even though my dog is a mid weight. The grommet said they all worked on commission. read more

They not only do the best, over the top job on my dog, but they go the extra mile! My son wanted to propose to his GF and needed an excuse to go to Barnes & Noble for 20 minutes. I called them and asked if we could just bring my dog in for a nail trimming and they were so excited to be a part of the whole scheme! They pulled it off perfectly! My son's now fiance was so impressed that they were in on it...plus they did my dog's nails, teeth and ears, and put a celebratory bow on her collar...on the house! How sweet is that! I will always bring my GSD to Petco because they have the best, BEST groomers! And they are great at what they do! read more

Lack of stock and lies about it. I've been there 6 times different days trying to get frozen fuzzy mice for my snakes. They NEVER have them with excuses they are getting them tomorrow or they just never got in shipment or they sold them all. Then the last guy, just today, admits they can't seem to stock items and told me I can order online which is BULL because the site doesn't sell them. I went into Petco for the first time today and won't be back. I found just what I wanted and went to pay. No one at the cash register. I wandered around from front of store to back, not ONE employee, other than the three grooming one dog in the grooming area, who SAW me and did not call for an employee. I even yelled out, "anyone work here?" NO ONE came out. I finally left tossing all I had planned to purchase onto the checkout counter. I won't be back. PetSmart is just a half mile away and there were plenty of people working there. read more

I take my Westie to the grooming dept at this Petco. Misti is my favorite groomer! She is really good with the dogs, and you can tell she enjoys what she does. My girl looks great every time Misti grooms her. CC is very nice too. Great job everyone, and keep up the good work. My dog is not scared whenever I take her there, and she is in good spirits when I pick her up. That says a lot in my book! I recommend this grooming dept. read more

My girlfriend asked me to go get cat food for her cats at this location, as she was driving back into town and wasn't going to be able to make it before they closed. She called in ahead to let them know I was coming, and to have them place the cat food she regularly gets behind the counter, so I could run and and pay for it and leave. I was concerned because it was going it was 6:44 PM when she called me, and the place is about 15 minutes away from me. It was Sunday, so they were closing at 7 PM. to the door at 6:58 PM, which is cutting it close, but still would have been enough time for the simple transaction. Some flabby dude with tattoos, a semi-undercut combed sloppily, and ear gauges is standing, guarding the door from the inside. He says that's they are closed. I attempt to explain to him that we have a bag of food waiting to be purchased at the register, and that's all we need, and that they are open for 2 more minutes. He says he can't let me in because then "no one would get home on time". I look in the store, there's one register open, one person in line, and several people walking around the store. Not only was I denied service, there was no attempt to apologize for being unable to serve. I am never coming to this location again, and if I ever meet the person again, this person who felt it was a better expenditure of his time on the clock to deny access to the store while open for a quick service rather then actually provide service....well, he's going to get an earful on what proper customer service is. read more
