Tried to pop in for a quick nail trim but the grooming Salon decided to close an hour early.

I was given some coupons for some products at Petco, so we popped in 30 minutes before they closed. A store associate followed us around the store. We are an average looking white couple, so this wasn't a racial issue. I was wearing leggings, and my partner got the feeling he was staring at me. We quickly realized that the items my coupons were for were items of quality I did not want, so we left. However, as we left, the creepy associate was at the front and tried talking to me. The staff is always so kind and friendly. Everytime i come in for crickets they are always sweet and make good conversation. This store is one of the only places that never runs out of crickets and have a good range of sizes as well. They also always have good deals for lots of items especially reptile enclosures and aquariums. The animals seem to be well taken care as well. read more

DO NOT go to this Petco unless you want to be racially profiled and disrespected. We came in excited as a family to purchase more koi fish for our tank, but what was supposed to be a simple, joyful outing quickly turned into a disappointing and unacceptable experience. We politely asked a manager in the fish section for assistance. Not only did he fail to greet us with any courtesy, but he immediately dismissed us by saying they weren't selling fish anymore because they were "closing soon." Mind you--it was only 3 PM, and the store closes at 5 PM. I kindly asked if he could help us with just two fish since it was still well within operating hours, and his response? "Yup, you know what, y'all can head out for me... the exit is that way." Seriously? This wasn't just bad customer service--it was flat-out disrespectful and racially charged. As people of color, we felt targeted, unwelcome, and judged the moment we asked for help. This manager, a male with a twirled mustache, carried himself with such rudeness and hostility, it completely ruined our kids' Easter Sunday and left a lasting negative impression on our family. If I could give PetCo less than 1 star, I would. They claim that Purina Pro Plan canned cat food is impossible to come by. They have claimed this since early June of 2021. My sweet parents gave me a gift card to PetCo for Christmas. I thought I would give it another shot to see if they might have been able to stock up on Purina Pro Plan. Nope! They claim that it is constrained. The employee I talked to claims that it is constrained. He says they haven't had that brand in months as it is hard to come by. I told him that Petsmart has it. He said "I'm surprised they could get it and we can't.", like I was making it up. Heads up, I've been getting the Purina Pro Plan, since June, from Petsmart. I've included a pic for proof. I'm a Petco fan. This is a well-organized outlet, well worth a visit. Myself, I can only attest to the quality of the available pet goods and plants, as that's what I buy. This particular Petco can be a bit more crowded, though I haven't seen that affect the speed and friendliness of the service people there. However, be prepared to take what parking you can in the lot, especially around lunchtime as there's a lot of eateries that share this space. On the plus side you can stroll over to the Barnes and Noble on the corner and read up on your favorite breed of cat, dog, or fish! Pro Tip: If, like me, you shop for a live catnip plants, be sure to call before you show up. Sometimes they get a shipment in from a greenhouse, other times they won't have it available. read more

I'm really disappointed. Made an appointment to get my dog groomed weeks in advance. The person that checked us in was just not in the mood. She was very straight forward and made no attempt to be nice and warm to my dog. My dog needed to be shaved completely, she had tons of knots. She's also a puppy and have never been groomed over there. As she was "examining", she attempted to grab my dog's tales twice, of which my dog did not like. She told me they would not take my dog cause she tried to bite. Listen, I get it. Lots of liability. But don't they have muzzles? And honestly,my mini puppy labradoodle that weights 16 lbs would tear up someone? Just very disappointed that such a big chain would have unprepared people that decline customers. read more

I had been warned about buying fish from the two box stores; they often are sick and traumatized. People don't take care of them well when they're in tiny plastic containers for weeks or longer. Despite that, I would get occasional things for my tank and my betta, and it was relatively fine. Well, today solidified that I will never go again. I think the photos explain themselves but basically, a betta was dead and decomposing in her container, prominently displayed on an end cap. I know these people are busy and stressed. But I think a dissolved betta would jump out on a display and it would get attention fairly quickly. I felt so terrible for this little one; being dead and ignored in a plastic dish is not what she deserved. read more

My last gifts to buy are for my four legged children. After checking online pricing, I determined that Petco is a bit cheaper than Petsmart. They have the store divided into animal categories. Fish stuff to the left, followed by rodent things, bird are on the right, big middle section is for the dogs. Hidden in the back left are the cat items. The store is doesn't have many customer yet so I have the three sales people to myself, if I need them. I didn't need them, as everything was easy to find. Everything was neatly laid out. I first look for a window seat for the little girl. BF follows me, so I tell him to go find a laser pen for the boy. He doesn't know where to look so I show him the dozen or so varieties to choose from. I go back to the furniture section and find the perfect window seat. I am looking for a mobile toy to amuse the boy and find a motorized racing mouse inside a round stand, great choice. Next isle I pick up two bags for KC's favorite treats and two of a different brand for Sunshine. There is a catnip growing kit, way to spoil the kids. On my way to the next isle, I find a fishing pole with a stuffed fish on the hook and it has a working reel to drag the fish back. I am now wondering what is taking BF so long. I find him with three pens in his hands still debating which one to get. I take the from his hands and tell him, I like this one. The cashier was so helpful and friendly. Best part, she was quick. My only issue is why do the dogs get 2/3 of the store and the cats get a small section in the back. read more

Always friendly and courteous to my pet (and to me also) I come here about monthly to pick up dog food, but I also came here recently for grooming services. Flat out, I was impressed and pleased. I have a large framed Labrador Retriever that has a thick thick coat. They were able to take on the task and shave him to an acceptable and cool level for these Texas Summer months. He got his bath and all other grooming performed. He was a peppy dog afterwards (of course find a Lab that isn't..lol) They performed the job as expected, treated my dog with care, and actually had him available BEFORE the time allotted and promised, so that was a win in my book as well. Do NOT take your animal to groomed here. Made a appointment for my dog for 3pm, thinking they would get him in right away and out in 30mins or so. Didn't happen at all. I go to the Petco at arboretum and they are always nice about getting my dog in asap. I have never had to wait HOURS for my dog nor has my dog been in a cage. This place told me they would take a couple hours and they would call when he's ready, I Hesitated but just decided to wait outside. After a few minutes I decided to go in and just ask if I could keep my dog until they are ready for him. When she brings my dog out he is completely wet and shaking from being in a cage. The worker told me to reschedule when I asked for them to call me when they are ready to give my dog a haircut. Rude place never take your pets here. read more

I love going to Petco, and I really love their brand of dogfood, Wholehearted. However, I really do not like coming to this location solely because of the employees. Today was the 3rd time I've visited and had the same associate, Kristy, ring me up at the register. She has been unpleasant and somewhat rude every time. After getting to the register today, she let out a loud annoyed sigh after ringing, then re-ringing up my whopping 2 whole item transaction. She asked for my number to enter in for my pals rewards, and I am sure she did not enter the number in correctly; so there goes my points. Then when I asked for a bag, she seemed even more annoyed as she haphazardly dropped them into the plastic bag stating, "I wouldn't trust these bags with heavy items". My boy sees Jessie and just loves her (he's better w/ her than he is when I give him a bath). The other groomers are really sweet w/ him even though he's Jessie's guy. Disclaimer: I can't speak for their grooming technique, but the fact that I can't speak on that is a big reason I rated my experience a "2." I made an appt for my pup to come in for a wash & brush + some nail love. Everyone was kind and took their time with my girl when we first walked in, but the great experience stopped once I walked out the door. About an hour after I left, I got a call from one of the gals there explaining that my pup was panting and seemingly nervous, so they weren't going to be able to bathe her. Knowing my girl can be a little nervous with new places, I called back on my way to get her and asked what they did or could do to try and give her a bath. They said "we loved on her, but she just keeps panting." After that statement, the lady said "our air isn't working right now anyway, so we're having to call everyone to come pick up their pets." A major concern and reason they didn't attempt to bathe her was the panting - which they said was a sign of nervousness. My assessment is she was panting from the broken air conditioner - but my pup unfortunately couldn't tell me in English what the deal was when I picked her up. They offered a $5 coupon and asked me to bring her in twice again in the following week. Once to allow my pup to get to know the manager, and a second time during the week for a bath by the manager. I just couldn't find the logic in bringing a nervous pup to a new/loud/scary place twice again in the hopes she won't pant in a hot kennel the third time. So I decided just to drive across the parking lot to PetSmart and see what the deal would be there. My appt at Petco was for 2pm and they told me she wouldn't be ready until 6pm. I walked in to PetSmart at 4pm, they took her immediately, and my clean and calm pup and I got home before 5:30 and spent $10 less than what Petco was going to charge - even if I used the $5 coupon they were going to give me. While everyone was nice at Petco, I think I'll be taking my sweet girl to the just as nice people at PetSmart for her baths from now on. read more

It's a Big Box retailer, but sometimes they have things I can't get at a smaller retailer, so I've hit them up several times in the past year. They carry a decent variety of items for most domestic household pets, and their variety and pricing seem consistently better than that other Big Box retailer that claims to be smarter. They regularly have sales, and also offer a free discount membership in exchange for your email and phone number. I've only received notices of sales, so far no phone calls (thankfully). The employees have been kind and helpful. Pet toys and costumes/winter attire were on sale recently at 40-50% off. They don't have the local dog food that I prefer to buy for my rescued dogs, but they do carry some of the natural treats. Check the labels on treats and toys if you want to avoid offerings from China, however, because I spotted some of those. Until recently, they wouldn't match prices with their online stores, which was to their detriment, because if you look online, you will often find gigantic sales that aren't advertised in-store. However, several weeks ago, they changed their course on this policy. So check online before you make a large purchase. It might save you quite a bit. read more

A piece of rope that is less than 1 foot long is almost $3.00 because it has 2 knots tied on the ends ...... Home Depot sells a 25 foot rope for about $5.00 and I cut it to the length I want (I end up with 16 of them) Anyone want to buy some? Custom made baby! I'm in the wrong business. Leashes .... how many choices do we really need? They have 40 different kinds. $9.00 for a cheap leash, 6 feet long .... crap I should have just used some of that left over rope! Maybe that little hook thing is $8.00 alone? Dog shampoo $10.00 is the least expensive ...... it costs $3.00 for Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo, what is so special about this shampoo? No tears? Whatever... if it is good enough for a human I would hope it is good enough for a dog. (Bring it on PETA! Kid tested Pet approved!) Flea stuff ...... there is a wide variety of things to rid your pooch of fleas .... now that is some important stuff ..... $20.00 for a three month supply, that is quite reasonable, not like the rope and leash. Crate - $100, that too makes some sense. $30 for a cheep dog bed ..... $150 for a high end one ..... let me say that again .... $150 for a PILLOW, for your dog! My ergonomic super space foam pillow was $50 ..... what is this made out of? Food ..... So the Iams (which I am told is the best stuff) is like $13 for an 8lb bag ... OK it is good food, no expiration date ...... Get home open it up .... this is why I need things to kill bugs, as they are in the food, now also they are in my house, garage and on my dog ..... not too happy about that, but they make it right for me. So the people are cool .... they really have to be at this price, but then again I guess I'm a little bit of a cheapskate ...... BTW don't buy fish here .... they brought "the death" to my fish tank and wiped out my aquarium, not one to be very smart, I bought fish here a second time, and had the experience all over again, that was a lot of fun .... We trusted Petco as the best place to start our pet journey after a break of 7 years so we went to Petco at lakeline austin to bring home a couple parakeets. This is what we were told, "Have you ever had bird pets before?" we said yes, 7 years ago, and we appreciate any guidance you have for us. The employee certainly had an agenda, his exact words to us right infront of our kid were, "My comfort level is very low on selling you the birds! You should watch youtube videos or other things". It was absolutely baseless and humilitating judgment/remark, especially when we told him this isn't our first time!!! Let alone customer service, their staff actually need to learn basic manners. We went to a different pet store and got our pet birds who are just as happy and already chirping/napping/eating/ playful and much loved on just their 2nd day at our place. I've always like Petco, the problem is...I always leave wanting a ferret, but there are rescues for that. The one thing I do wish this location had, is the kitty adoption area...no kitties here :( This location is always clean and they always answer any questions I have about anything and are more than helpful. I like Petco because they sell our brand of cat food, which is Natural Balance, and their scoop your own litter is fabulous, it seriously can't be beat. We earn points every time we shop there which in turn, turns into discount coupons, which technically, I'm sure I'm paying for anyways. I had my dog groomed at this location for the first time approximately 1 & 1/2 months ago. My groomer was Jesse! She was so wonderful and I was so pleased how my dog looked and smelled! Jesse did a wonderful grooming job. Yesterday, I took my dog back to get groomed again. He smells and looks great! I will only go to Jesse from now on to get him groomed. Went here today to pick up some hamster stuff for our cute little Syrian hamster. We always like to take a peek at the other rodents in pet stores to see how they are being cared for. The selection was very small but the part that was the most concerning to me was that the area itself was a mess. There was a huge trash can filled with extremely soiled bedding. Though this isn't a concern for the rodents but it is for the customers. I understand the cages need to be cleaned (at least once a week) but to have that out I. The open during business hours and unattended seems like a health code violation. Other than that like I said the section of rodents is small so if your looking to buy one, I wouldn't make this your first pick. Not sure about cats and dogs cause I'm a dedicated hamster lover. read more
