Stopped in tonight because we were told this is the best place to buy fish in Rochester. If that's true, I feel bad for the Rochester market. We were incredibly disappointed with not only the selection of fish, but the quality and price as well. The prices were at least double on most fish compared to what we pay at The Fish Place in Tonawanda. The water quality was extremely poor in most of the tanks as well. The fish quality itself was hit or miss. They have some specialty bettas you won't find elsewhere which was cool, but the prices are insane. The cichlids were outrageously high priced for extremely low quality, washed out fish. We couldn't even tell the males from the females due to the poor water quality. My guess is that this is due to the amount of teenagers working at this store. When we stopped in on a Saturday night there were 3 teenagers working, all of whom couldn't stop talking about how they couldnt wait to leave work and making concerning comments about housing way too many anoles together in a tank. It's clear the kids working here have extremely limited knowledge of the care of the animals in this shop. The one good thing I can really say about this shop is that they had excellent prices on fish tanks and had a lot of unique sized & shaped tanks you'll have trouble finding elsewhere. They also had some cool planted tanks, but the prices were again very high. read more

The attitude was wonderful, really friendly and into their jobs. The woman who helped us was so friendly, asked us questions about our needs and even was taking a really long good look at the hamster bowls section, reorganizing it and it was very useful reordering of it! The store had a nice layout. Lots of new stuff we hadn't seen! However, I don't think it was very clean! The water animals section had a musty, old basement smell right away as you walk in. It turned us right off on the store. Other departments were cleaner but not as you'd usually see in a store for non-human animals who need a sterile or clean product, like a clean chew that's hanging up, not all dusty! The cages in small pets looked ratty and old! The ferrets were smelly in a way that wasn't just because they're ferrets! It was scary. read more

I my opinion this is the best petstore in rochester! Fish store is amazing and very healthy fish and plants. The sales staff are very knowledgeable with a wealth of info and always willing to help. Can't say enough good about this store! Not sure why someone gave a 2 star reveiw. Yes, it is an old building, not dirty just an old building. The up keep on the fish and furry critters is excellent. I need to see alter this review. I just visited the store and it definitely went down hill from last time I visited. The fish tanks were a mess. A lot of the fish were being treated for disease and the tanks themselves were dirty with algae growing in most of tanks. I never see the tanks in such disarray. They even had tanks missing. If I had to guess I think they might have changed ownership or persona. No longer a five star maybe a three at best. read more

This pet store has the largest collection of aquariums and the largest variety of fish in Greece. Maybe even the Rochester area. There were literally dozens of shelves of all kinds of goldfish with the latin names written on the front. Some aquariums were just demos of the different accessories you could add. There were lots of staff on hand too showing people around and offering kids a closer look at specific types of fish. It's a large store with items for dogs, cats, rabbits and even possums. Another section of the store had cases of possums, mice, snakes, and lizards. It was really a nice experience. It was also very clean. There wasn't any of that musty animal smell you get in some places. It's in the Ridgemont Plaza with plenty of parking. Definitely a place to check out if you're an aqua lover! read more

If you're looking for a pet store that actually has knowledgeable staff and regularly has HEALTHY small animals, birds and aquatic life you need to walk in here and have a look around. I don't exactly live around the corner but will go out of my way to drive a little farther to get what I need and have a chat with these people. Yes, in every pet store you will get a couple newer employees that may not know as much about your particular situation/ critter, but I promise if you get to know these people and take time to ask your questions you will notice a considerable difference in service, knowledge and quality compared to every other pet store in the area. Just in the last 6 months I have bought several fish and aquarium plants for my tanks. My son is very interested in learning more about his tank and the person helping us took extra time to speak directly to him and answer his questions too instead of talking over his head only to me. I really appreciated that. We also just bought a mini rex rabbit. I know the breed well and this bunny is a beautiful example of the breed. I have seen rabbits being sold as Mini Rex other places locally that clearly were not pure mini rex. All in all the best pet store around in my opinion! read more

This place has really good deals on pet supplies, I got the exact reptile hammock here as pet smart for $5 cheaper and their crickets are an amazing deal. There's one person who works there though and he's strange like he refuses to put 100 crickets in a bag anything over 50 he won't do and I know there can be 100 in a bag. He also talks about how super worms can eat my bearded dragons stomach and all. Everything else is great about the place though, I grew up going here and always would get my hamsters, their supplies, and now my cat and bearded dragon's supplies here. The one woman who works up front typically is so so nice too. I don't do fish usually also but they're super knowledgeable about fish and all I always learn something. read more

I have ventured into this pet store a few times now! Once I was walking around my foster dog trying to get her some attention and socialization. The staff loved her. They were so friendly and even showed me some products that would be good for my foster babies. This store is quite crowded but you have to take a step back, because it is truly organized chaos. You can easily find what you are looking for. It is all just in a small space. I did ask the owner of the store if my rescue would be considered to run an adoption event there. She said she would have to think about it because it is such a small space, but there was the sidewalk. She did welcome cats though, they have a cat cage up front for adoptable kitties! read more

This is absolutely my favorite place to go for freshwater fish. They carry everything you could need, have a huge variety of fish, and carry the oddball stuff you aren't going to get most other places. A lot of the fish are home bred by employees, and they quarantine any sick fish. The employees are so kind and patient, and will not sell you anything you can't handle. They are knowledgeable and help people get into the fish hobby without killing a bunch of fish first. Not only that, but they are sociable as well, and it's always nice to have a short chat with them when the shop isn't packed. The place is clean and well kept. As for supplies, they also carry pretty much anything you could need. While you can probably get it for cheaper somewhere else, the convenience is really nice and the prices really aren't that bad. They also always have a great selection of large and gorgeous plants, most of their bettas are kept in actual tanks and not cups (they also carry a large variety of gorgeous, fairly priced, bettas) and often are cohabbed with other fish if they aren't aggressive, which is great because it helps reduce stigma around them. Genuinely could not recommend a better place to go for fish in the area. read more

I have been coming here for a few years for fish and aquarium supplies. The fish selection is wonderful! The staff is very knowledgeable. Sometimes you have to be patient when the store gets a little crazy, but it's not terrible. I find the price of the fish to be good, but some of the supplies you can find cheaper and other pet stores, so you may want to do a little research. These people set new standards in ineptitude and incompetence. The Fairport store didn't have the product I needed, called the Greece store, and assured me it would be there later that afternoon, or the next day at the latest. I go back the next day, the truck is not there yet, but any minute....I come back yet again, and guess what? Wrong product! The same lady who placed the order, asked if this is what I wanted....she knew it wasn't. Live and learn.... I will never buy ANYTHING from these morons again, in either store. I love this local fish store. They are knowledgeable and helpful about everything aquarium related. They have merchandise for all sorts of pets, but the real gem here is the responsibly bought and sold fish. They are always healthy and top notch, even if a tad bit more pricey than competitors. The staff has always had an answer to every question and concern I've had. I've even had one employee help me fix a product I didn't buy there, for the love of the hobby. Pretty cool. read more

I've been going to Pet World in Rochester for many years. They have two fabulous managers at the Greece and Pittsford locations: Margie and Lisa. These two ladies know just about everything when it comes to animals! And they're honest to boot. They'll be straight with you, and they're not in it for the money. They both love animals to the core. It's definitely worth a visit, especially if you're a fish lover to the Greece locations! And, it's owned by a local family who works there every day, even on Christmas!, to make sure their animals are getting what they need. My highest compliments! read more

The employees are very nice. This is the one I would recommend going to because in the Fairport store there are puppies. I wouldn't come here unless you absolutely have too, as the small animals are kept in extremely small tanks. For example, there are normally 3-6 ferrets that are kept in tanks probably about 20 gallons. The chinchillas are only given ONE glass jar to "hide in". Chinchillas come from the Andes, so they jump a lot. These chinchillas are kept in 20 gallons with no ledges or chews. There are normally about 7 baby rabbits that are kept in, once again, 20 gallon tanks. None of the animals are properly taken care of except the fish. Overall, I wouldn't recommend visiting. read more
