On the first Saturday of every month, this Pet Valu offers doggy nail trims for $10, and Marilyn is a pro, who can handle even my Drama Queen of a dog, who cries before the clippers are even touching his nails! The store is much smaller than the Front Street location, and doesn't carry raw food, so we just go once a month for nail trims and some dog treats. On our last visit, while checking out, my Drama Queen of a dog decided to shoplift/help himself to some treats that are conveniently/inconveniently located at dog eye level. So that was an extra $4. I wish I could shop here more. Unfortunately they don't carry my dog's food here. They have recently rennovated the store so it's looking quite nice at the moment. Things are better organized and the layout makes much more sense. They don't just have dog stuff. You can outfit your cat, bird, rodent, etc. They just don't sell the pets themselves. Pet Valu carries everything you could need for your pet. Their prices are reasonable and the staff are very knowledgable. If you're looking for something specific that they don't have they will make the effort to see if they can special order it for you. read more

First off 10/10. Now, I can't blame the store but when I walked in, all the kids pointed at me and asked their parents how big I would get, I accept that. So, since little Moonlight Graham is no longer with me and with Leslie, I thought I would lower the bar and go for a goldfish. So ask the fine gentleman working there, "what is this one's name". He says "we don't name our fish sir". Ok fine. Then I spot a turtle and says to the man "do you name your turtles?" He says "Of course, were born yesterday?" Duh. ( I admit I'm not "hip" with the whole Pet thing) So I says "What do you call this little dude?" He says, with a disdained look in his eyes, "IT'S A GIRL!!" ok ok calm down bullwinkle, "what's her name?" He says "Frank" .. alrighty then. So go to pick her up and he is all like "whoa whoa whoa, Frank does not like to be touched" Ok, so I waited 4 hours for Frank to climb out of the tank, and then i go to order an uber and the man says to me "no no no, frank does not like uber, cabs, public transportation or time travel" (I'll get that at another time) So I'm like, alrighty then. So Frank is about a half a foot out the door and I'm next door ordering a pizza, which I ate, called my girlfiends which took a few hours to get through. I'm stuffed and Frank has only made it 2 feet. Normally I would be home in 10 mins but I have a feeling this make take a little time. Worst thing of all, Frank was so exhausted getting out the tank, she stopped and had a smoke! I'll update you when I get home in about 3 weeks. Overall a wonderful experience at Pet Valu. 10/10 stars highly recommended. And the bonus, they have a leave a milkbone, take a milkbone tray, I ate one (just like everyone of you out there, admit we all tried a milkbone or just eat chalk) and as always, FREE PARKING!!!! read more

This pet valu is my go to place for cat food. It's a very small store so they don't carry the large size bags of the food I feed my fur babies, but the staff here have no problem ordering the food in. I can just call them and place the order over the phone so I don't have to go in to the store, and then pay for it when I pick the food up. In the entire time I've been ordering cat food here (over a year), they only ordered the wrong brand once which I wasn't very happy out, but my cats felt differently and meh, it happens. And it only takes about a week to receive the food you order so that's good too! Sometimes when I'm here I can't find the prices for stuff (like cat litter), so it sometimes makes me not want to buy things because I don't like having to ask. The cat litter here might also be a little more expensive than the grocery store, (hard to know for sure without prices on everything). Also, I think the stuff here is mostly for dogs and then cats, and the selection is pretty limited in general but more so for other animals; that's my only criticism but the store is what it is and it's great. I know a pug who loves this place... This location is large and in charge and is always fully stocked with my best friend George's favorite things. Examples of these things include pigs' ears, fancy kibble and Mother Hubbard's organic dog treats. They also have a small doggy clothing section, bed section and things for cats. Pfffft. Cats. I called Pet Valu looking for booties for my dog tonight and got awesome customer service. They held two sizes so she could try them on and gave me a coupon for a 25% discount. They also recommended a treat for her that she's been chewing on for the last half hour, totally blissed out. I'm pretty sure my dog would rate this place 5 stars too since the staff gave her treats the whole time we were in there. You can tell they're total animal lovers and I liked that they could recommend things based on experience with the products with their own pets. We arrived just before they closed and they were very patient while she tried on the booties and I put them on her after buying them. The store was well-organized and the prices were competitive compared to other stores I've been in downtown. I was also pretty impressed with the selection, and it was nice that they had things for larger dogs since a lot of the downtown stores assume everyone has a yorkie. In terms of downtown pet stores, this place is a winner. read more

I shopped here recently while staying at my boyfriend's place for the weekend and it was like a whole other world. It feels very small-town when you go in. I mean, it *looks* like a boutique pet shop, but the staff and customers all know each other and are so friendly! I forgot what I had gone in for, but came out with more than I needed. Pet Valus in general are one of my preferred places to shop. If you don't want to feed your furry friend pet-versions of McDonald's every day, Pet Valu is the way to go. Unlike privately owned pet stores, this location is very clean, fully stocked, and well laid-out. The staff know their stuff and will encourage you to feed your pet good quality food (down with Fancy Feast)! Sales staff were not pushy, and offered suggestions on how to keep my cat healthy in the deadly heat with no air conditioning. Also, can't beat being rick-rolled upon entry of the store :D read more

The staff is friendly and always greats you when you come in. I like the selection for dogs. Not sure about for cats or other animals as I only have a dog ( for now anyways ). Prices are pet store standard. There's a couple of arm chairs in the middle of the store so a great place to take a break if you are out and about in Cabbagetown. read more

The Pet Valu near me, Yonge and St Clair, has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I have been back several times because they are conveniently located, but every time I'm there, the staff completely ignores me, and even when I have asked for help finding what I need I get "I'm busy, ask someone else" or someone that also can't find what I need because they don't know their own store's merchandise. Their products are overpriced anyway, so now I just look for what I need on Amazon. read more

The Carlton St location is great. If they don't have the size bag of food you need they will custom order it. They also let you know when things will be coming in and give you a call. The staff are friendly and helpful. My dog loves the store and they love her, always give her treats. The only recommendation I would make is to have a wider selection of dog toys. Most of the toys there my dog an chew through really easily, would appreciate more durable toys for large breed dogs. read more

We were in the neighborhood and needed to get some food for my dog. The staff was friendly and helpful UNTIL a big black dog walks into the store with the owner. The owner lets the dog go off leash. The dog comes directly to my dog and growled, my dog is not reactive but I still had to block the dog from getting my dog as I saw the dog about to attack, as soon as I was about to confront the owner of the off leash dog a guy with low vision walked in with his guide dog and yes, the off leash dog ran towards the guide dog and attacked it while the owner tried to grab his guide dog as best as he could. Finally the owner of the off leash dog grabbed the off leashed dog and went to make line to pay. The guy with the guide dog walked towards the back of the store but the black dog kept growling. It was then when the pet valu employee finally said with a sarcastic tone : if you don't behave 'so and so' you will have to stay outside. The owner, I am sure a regular, just laughed and said yeah right and stay under the rain? And stated talking to the guy cashing us. At that point I decided not to confront the pet valu employee nor the owner of the black dog because I am sure this is what she does every time she and her black dog do when they come to the store. Please dog owners don't set up your dogs for failure! And please pet valu employees, make sure the safety of the 'non regular clients' don't feel threatened when they visit your stores! read more

The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the food products. My dog likes to shop around and smell the toys and food. The owner/manager of the store is great as well. My dog's walk on Thursday mornings wouldn't be complete without stopping at her favourite store for a treat. read more

Great store for generic pet supplies and pet food. What's exceptional about this specific location is the friendly staff and attentive customer service. Fun pet toys and a good assortment of pet products. While not your trendy pet boutique the pruducts there are of quality and not at inflated prices. The only reason I shop elsewhere is because their dogfood line is limited - i generally fed my pet grain free products made in Canada. read more
