I live in the building connected to this retail space, and boy am I glad that it opened up! I really like Pet Valu and Global Pet Foods. They have more of a mom-and-pop kind of vibe, although they're not exactly boutique stores. I guess this is because of their franchising system.
This Pet Valu has the whole shebang -- dog products, cat products, small animal and bird products (food, beds/bedding, grooming supplies, treats, toys, etc.), and grooming for dogs.
Their grooming services are done by two groomers. One is a regular groomer who I'm sure is very skilled, but to the best of my knowledge, has slightly less experience than the other one. The other groomer is a groomer who apparently has competition grooming experience. So if you're very particular about how your purebred is groomed (aka exactly according to breed standard), then this would be the groomer you want.
She does charge a little more, although I haven't seen a full list of prices. The store keeps a book with a full list of prices for each breed. If you have a mixed breed but want your dog to get a cut specific to a particular breed, then they'll likely need to consult the groomer first before giving you a quote.
All the staff are VERY friendly. One of the staff members apparently worked at Global Pet Foods for a long time, so she is very knowledgeable. I believe a lot of the staff members are bilingual or trilingual, and speak Mandarin and Cantonese. I am not sure if they speak other languages. But given that this area has a high Asian population, this is wonderful to see!
Highly recommended; go take a visit, even if just to take a quick glance around! read more
