We've been going for 2 years or so, since our dog was a puppy, and have recently decided to move somewhere else. Every time we picked up our dog he seemed a bit more anxious than the time before, they suggested we give him more anxiety medication. The price of a groom is crazy, over $250 for a small 30lb dog. The turning point for us is that our dog was having an off day and was a bit more anxious than usual - never mean or aggressive, just squirmy. They called us after an hour to let us know, but told us they'd keep trying. Two hours later he was ready for pickup - I assumed that 3+ hours at the groomer meant they got through it. When I picked him up they told me they did not cut any of his hair, only a nail trim and bath. To my surprise, they proceeded to charge me the full amount of a groom - a $250 bath and nail trim. Very dissapointed given we were longstanding customers and they knew he was having an off day. We will certainly not be back. **UPDATE** We took our dog to another groomer who let us know that there are clear signs of trauma from previous grooming experience. He was clearly pushed past his comfort level at Dogfather to a point where he has developed a traumatic fear of being at the groomers. This explains why he was more and more anxious to go each time. This is deeply upsetting and I only wish we changed groomers sooner. read more

Sometimes I think pet owners can get overboard of what cute things they can get for their dogs..but really spending $21 for a stuffed toy... or a Tierra Bowl for $60 or a Art dog bed for $1400!! But I can guarantee one thing is all their doggie treats are human grade and awesome and good for your K9 friend. My dog may have to look for a new mama if he expect me to shop here for him! But definitely a nice place to browse around and pick up some treats! And make sure you ask your dog not to touch anything, if he breaks something he is in BIG trouble! read more

My Havanese has been cared for at the Dogfather, over the past 5 years. Now my 2 puppies go as well. Melissa is a superb groomer and loves animals. Imagine my surprise today, after years of care, I was informed that my dogs stayed too long and I would need to pay a "boarding fee". I came in here looking for a quality winter coat that comfortably fits my Bichon Frise and that's exactly what I found! I was slightly overwhelmed with their large selection of dog apparel. The sale associate was very helpful and asked me questions of what I was looking for then she measured my pooch and came back with options. We found a coat that fit my dogs body, arms & legs perfectly and has hidden openings for your leash or harness. I'm beyond happy with this purchase because I know I paid for quality that will last my dog a couple of winters. Last year, I purchased an inexpensive coat online and after today's experience I realized what a difference you get when you invest in quality because the fit and comfort does not compare. I was expecting to pay at least $150 but it was much less than that. Since I was under budget I decided to purchase a vest to keep my dog cozy for the fall months. I don't recommend this place for grooming. The guy didn't cut my dogs nails , the over all hair cut was awful, not even, not soft, just looked like a bad haircut cut by an amateur. Price was normal but not worth it for what we got. Saw really good reviews so was hopeful but extremely disappointed...oh yA, my dogs belly was still dirty..I couldn't believe it Did he even get a bath? My pup Ozzy is my baby! There's nothing I wouldn't do for him.. Except as I found out yesterday, buy him a $1400 dog bed! Yikes-bikes! I'm all for spoiling my dog, but being that indulgent, well the jury is out on that one still. That being said, there are a lot of really nice cute and nice dog accessories here. All products look like they are able to stand the test of time (for a $60 dog bowl, it better last the life of my dog)! The cutest thing in the store in my opinion is the leash holder. It's basically the tail end of a dog, which you pin to the wall, and the dog tail is used as a hook to hang your dog's leash. Ironically, that is probably the cheapest item in the store (my opinion on it being the best item holds no correlation to the price of the item.. I swear). If you can afford this store, all the power to you. Just keep in mind, little Cujo isn't going to notice the difference between a Tierra dog bowl and a puddle of standing water. read more

I've been shopping at Dogfather for my cat and dog for a few years. Always a great selection of outfits - although a bit pricy (minus 1 star). I started to bring my dog in for grooming when I had a bad experience elsewhere due to rude service. I was unimpressed with the first couple of grooms as the groomer couldn't execute the cut as shown in the pictures I sent her. I was going to just find somewhere else, but I let the management know I was unhappy - and I'm glad I did. They agreed that the cut my dog got did not look like the image I provided, so I was offered a discount on my next groom and a different groomer was recommended. Her name is Melissa, and she has been doing an amazing job on my Shihtzu since! My girl gets lots of compliments when she leaves. read more

Dogfather offers a reasonable selection of all things dog, catering mostly to smaller dogs, but the prices are high. It comes in useful for those special occasions when your four-legged friend simply must wear rhinestones and sleep on satin. A cannot miss is their hilarious postcards, available at the front desk. They essentially summarize the insecurities of the fashionistas that shop for their dogs here- but I digress. I take my dog to the groomer here because she is WONDERFUL - she really cares about her canine customers, and takes her time making the experience less stressful for them. She even taught me how to properly brush my dog, and gave me a hug on a later date when I returned with a mat-free pooch! Even though my little pooch would rather eat vomit* then get groomed, she still gives her groomer kisses when it is all over with - and when was the last time you kissed your hairdresser? So two stars for the store, and four stars for the groomer, and three overall. *weelll, actually, she quite likes vomit - we find a lot of it around my neighbourhood on our Sunday morning walks. bleecch!! read more

The Dog Father is a great store to either pop into and check out all the great products on display or to just peak into the windows after-hours to see what they have in stock. The store is smallish but definitely packs in all the different items a dog owner would ever need. I always stop by to pick up rubber dog boots in the winter and buddy belts when I need them. I do believe that the Dog Father does cater to a particular demographic, and that is completely fine because there are boutique in all sorts of industries that do that. This store is not for 100% all dog owners, unlike places such as Petsmart. This is a high-end pet boutique, and the prices definitely reflect that. As someone who sees themselves as more of the middle of the road type person, I go into the Dog Father for certain things, but also know I will be buying other things at the big box pet store. I will say that on more than one occasion I have been searching for particular items and only found them at the the Dog Father! Staff has always been friendly and helpful. I wouldn't suggest bringing your dog in with you unless they are there for grooming services already or are very small, not a lot room in the store. read more

Pugoween is coming up so I took my dog Alfie to Dogfather today - an adorable little shop (with the best name ever!) in Rosedale. Seeking a costume that would beat out any Toronto pug for first prize at this strange costume party I was disappointed that the closest thing to a costume that they had was a knitted sweater with a skull and crossbones. The owner was very helpful though, telling me that if I wanted my dog to dress up as a bride or groom he would be happy to take his measurements and put in an order because they often have customers whose dogs are in their weddings. I didn't want to spend the amount it would probably cost me to buy my own Vera Wang dress on my pug's Halloween costume, despite the importance of the situation, so I politely declined. Nonetheless, if you are in the market for a doggie indulgence or a special gift for a pet lover, this is the place to go. read more

My dog comes out smelling and looking fresh after every appointment and the care they put into the full groom is flawless. I especially love how they trim the hair on my dogs paws such that they come out looking so adorable and clean. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a new groomer, the price is worth knowing that your dog is in good hands. I specifically asked them to trim my 2 dogs nails and trim the hair between their toes. They decided to trim their nails and do a full paw clean up, which they then charged me 100$ for. I did not ask for a full paw clean up, I specifically asked for between the toes. It costs significantly less to trim the hair between the toes versus a full paw clean up. Money aside, I did not want all the fur around my dogs feet cut off. It is not acceptable to perform services on people's pets which they did not ask for, and then charge them inappropriately for it. read more

Our regular Dog Groomer had been grooming him since he was 3 months old ... She moved out of province so we were searching for a New Groomer for our Baby Schichon Boy. A great easy stop on your Rosedale stroll. Treat your dog at K9 Cafe with some organic doggie frozen yogurt, or how about some organic doggie pepperoni. Great staff to answer any questions you have to get the best for your pooch. You can also book an appointment at the Paw Spa for grooming. The groomer really took their time and was very gentle. A lot of merchandise a little on the shi shi side, but overall, a great one stop shop and fantastic service. read more

Took my puppy for her first grooming here. Everyone was very nice and the place seems a good one for products. However, the end result was a terrible cut and to top it off, the groomer cut off all my pups whiskers! I was pretty disappointed and will never go there again. I want to like the Dogfather. I really do. However, everytime I go in there, I feel a bit disappointed. My little terrier, Olive, and I love their all human grade treats. It is what makes this store for me. She will keep dragging me into their store for the liver snaps especially! I don't understand the prices though. They seem to be very expensive for the majority of their products. I understand that is a part of the boutique stores - the top quality, local, handmade, or otherwise specialty items that have higher prices (for the mentioned reasons) - but it seems almost everything is at the top price range. I would definitely come back, my little girl wouldn't let me walk past it. However, I would not be willing to spend over $1000 on a bed, or big $$$ on very fancy dog clothes. Go for the treats, stay for the staff, but get out with your wallet in tact! read more

This has to be the all time best dog store I have ever been to. I've been in Toronto for a while now and have been looking for good selection of natural dog treats. Dogfather has the biggest selection I've ever seen. The shop is deceivingly small so I didn't expect that much but once I was actually in there I realized they have everything. I went in for liver treats and came out with a bed, a harness and leash set, a feeder, a rain coat, 3 toys, and 2 different kinds of liver. While I was there the girl behind the counter told me about their paw spaw grooming. I had been using petsmart since I got here, they're not bad I just felt that they were a little rough with my dog, so I made and appointment for the following Tuesday. OMG was my dog gorgeous. I think the groomer's name was Caroline, she was so sweet to my dog and he came up with a happy wagging tail. Two days later when we walked by the store he actually pulled me pack in, that's how happy he was. This is now my go to store for all things dog. read more

If you love your dog DO NOT take your dog here. This is the first review I have ever written. I feel I needed to post our story to ensure it does not happen to your furry friend. I was extremely upset with the customer service from the start. We showed up to our appointment and both groomers were 'sick'. They said they had tried to call us multiple times. We later learned that they were calling a number that was not ours -great start. We rescheduled for the following week at the Dogfather & Company ...despite my better judgement... because they were giving us a credit for the mistake. Upon picking my friendly Goldendoodle up, I knew something was wrong. He seemed traumatized. He did not want to be touched all evening. He has never looked so sad. He would not even eat a treat, which is something we have never seen before. When petting him the following morning, I noticed MULTIPLE deep cuts on his neck. He is in so much pain and still traumatized ( 3 days later). He yelps when anything touches that area. This is unacceptable!!!! We will NEVER be going back to the Dogfather and Company. They can not be trusted. read more

This review is a bit unusual in that it is sort of a non-report. Our dog, a 20 pound Schnoodle, had been previously groomed at Dogfather with decent results but a recent appointment was nothing less then bizarre. Several weeks ago, I brought our dog in just ahead of the appointed time and all seemed fine. However, my wife then received a phone message from Dogfather almost an hour later wondering if we were still planning on bringing our dog in. When my wife called back to see if dog was ready for pick up, she was told that no grooming at been done since the dog was cowarding in a corner and they decided not to groom her nor did they call us about any problems. So, she was picked up, still smelly and matted and badly in need of grooming. This was a first such experience for us. Our dog has since been groomed elsewhere without incident or complaint. We found the whole experience here very strange and amateurish. We thought we should share. read more
