KC is 15.5 years old and has warts on her back (as she's aging) and they take care not to run through them as other groomers have. I've taken Minnie for grooming at Spaw since she was a puppy, she's now a few months shy of 7 years old. The last time I came in 2018, she came home with irritated private parts because they either used something harsh or they clipped too close to the skin. They offered to give her a plastic cone so she could heal, but it was still an unpleasant experience, so for the most of 2019 I took her to different groomers by my work in Markham. Before the holidays I was on vacation and forgot to book her in for a groom so I came here because I got a last minute appointment. I asked SPECIFICALLY to keep her face round (Asian style) with a pom pom tail. To my surprise, when I picked her up, her face was triangle shaped, head flat and uneven and tail raggedy. They've also raised their prices by quite a bit the past couple years. My cuts used to be about $80 and now they are well over $100 and this is for a small 6 lb. toy poodle. After I voiced my concerns, I got a call saying the person who did the groom was the OWNER of the business. She also hinted at the fact that some dogs are more difficult... hard to believe since my dog was specifically called a "sweetheart" the day I picked her up. Their remedy is that I bring her back to "touch it up". But she has little hair left to work with at the top. If you love your babies, you wouldn't take them here.There's plenty of other reputable groomers who give great cuts and charge less. I regret hastily making the decision to come back after the first incident, but lesson learned. read more

He was left very matted not to long after, but Erica honestly saved the day. The haircuts, nail trimming, teeth cleaning, and more just beats out all the competition. My only feedback is it's a tad bit on the pricey side compared to the other groomers in the area. Happy with the experience. They gave my doggie a gorgeous haircut. He can be a bit grumpy but I found the groomer handled him well and managed to give a really nice cut. The only thing I would ask to improve is that their pricing policy is not very transparent. I got my first dog here a while back and he was just shaved down as he had knots which is understandable but my second dog today had a more defined haircut but they charged the same and on the upper end of the quote. Its a bit pricey and I am happy to pay when there's lot of effort involved. I would appreciate more transparency as they are a pricier than some other salons. My long-haired cat was in dire need of serious grooming, and a friend highly recommended Spaw Boutique! I dropped off my cat and headed off to brunch. Spaw called me three hours later to inform me Evey was ready. When I picked her up, I was surprised she wasn't flustered or stressed out because she hates water to death.. The groomer showed me a video of the bathing process and seriously, I couldn't believe that was the same cat who I had attempted to bathe months ago when she howled at the top of her lungs and put up a fight the whole time. What I saw in the video was a relaxed cat getting soaked but not struggling or even meowing... I guess some things are better left to the pros. The price was a bit steep, I paid over $90 for her grooming which includes an extra $10 for deshedding. They did a great job shaving down her belly and sanitizing the area. My cat was so pretty and smelled fresh in a little pink bandana. If you're having trouble bathing your cat, the professional cat groomers here do a wicked job! read more

Hi Eve, Thank you for your reply. Firstly, Mucky was not excessively matted. The only area that was matted was the collar area. I brushed him and took all of his mats out at home. It ,indeed, took me 3 hours to do so, but he was neither stressed, nor in pain. He is currently 100% clean and with no matted fur. We have been taking Banksy to SPAW Doggie Daycare for almost a year and we love it! Walking (or rather getting dragged) in there by my extremely excited dog is a great way to start the morning. The people who work at SPAW are very kind and I'm always touched by how genuinely happy they seem to see Banksy. Banksy is beside herself with excitement once she realizes that we are on the path to daycare. She bounds inside without looking back, which makes me feel relieved and grateful that she is safe and happy. One of the funniest things about having a dog in daycare is that they develop their own independent social circles. I always find it amusing when I am walking in the neighbourhood and all of a sudden Banksy starts bouncing up and down to greet some dog we pass and then that dog's parents and I are like "hmm, hello, I guess our dogs are friends from daycare!" You never really know what (or who) you're going to get when you take your pet for a groom, but Spaw Boutique is worth the extra bit of money. A friend of ours has brought his dog the daycare a few doors down told us that he likes it, so we decided to pop in after we dropped our dog for a groom. We were greeted by a lovely staff member who gave us a run down of the prices and told us a bit about the place. It's easy to tell that they love their job and the dogs they care for. Hi all! I have been coming here for years. I have praised them and recommended them to many people. Bella has been going there the longest. Kingsley for the past 4 years and Katie was adopted a year ago, so she had been there possibly 2 - 3 times. Long story short - you have lost a customer with 3 dogs for life. The reason I am writing this review is because communication is extremely important to me and I was not communicated many things from the staff who were grooming my dogs. How did I find this information? Let's say to talk about dogs in front of clients (as everyone knows everyone) is never a good idea. Forcing anxious dogs into compliance is never a good thing. If I had known this long time ago, I would have never gone to you. If you had communicated to me that my dog was anxious, I would have worked on it, however I am not able to read your minds. Additionally, who trained the staff who work there? Who allows their staff to 'force' dogs into compliance? I would strongly suggest to train your staff on dog's body language and to train your staff to stay calm with anxious/nervous dogs. Thank you for all the years of forcing my dogs into compliance as opposed to pairing grooming with a positive experience. I truly regret coming to you for the past 7 or 8 years. Please do not contact me or reply to this message (I really do not want to be bothered by excuses to make yourself look good). Okay so I decided to take my dog here for the first time. Everything was great up until I came to pick up my boy. First of all, I had to wait 15 min for him to be brought out and Second, I had mentioned to a staff member decorating the window that I had parked out front illegally while I thought I was gonna to be 5 min tops. I keep looking out the window to make sure I'm not ticketed. So I finally get my dog and I pay and I walk outside to a 150$ ticket. The lady watched me get a ticket even though she knew I was watching to make sure I didn't get one. Now the thing that gets me the most is my dog was completely different when I brought him home. He's the biggest suck and loves attention, but when I brought him back his ears were all the way down, he was growling at our other dogs and was very insecure it seemed. His left stood up at a weird angle for a few days and he wasn't himself. Accusing a place of abuse is a serious thing but if you know my dog you would've noticed that something had deeply disturbed him. After a week and a half he's starting to get back to himself. I still need to pay that ticket but think twice before bringing your dog here. The staff is your usual King St crowd so don't expect friendly customer service, to you or your pet. Edit: I have a large Italian Mastiff and it seems everyone who had good results had small dogs. Maybe they do not know how to groom large dogs or perhaps they were more rough with him thinking he could take it, but not realizing. read more

They lied to us about pricing and charged us wayyy too much for what it is. They told us $130 for a doodle haircut before and after the haircut they charged $200. That is a lot for a simple haircut. For reference, our dog's hair wasn't even that long to begin with. We just wanted a simple trim. The manager? Or I think she's the manager since the reception went to find her to talk to me. She was very rude and instead of apologizing for quoting us the wrong price, they made us pay and played the "our groomers are contractor" card. Sure the hair cut was just ok, we are not mad about the haircut but furious about the way they cheated us on the price. We only went to Spaw because the price was cheaper than other similar places and the google review was good. Would NEVER return here again. Honestly it's about principles. I live in the area and frequently witness the girl who is apparently the "manager" being extremely violent with the dogs while walking them. Plus, after speaking with one of my friends who used to take her dog here, she expressed that this girl also has absolutely zero certification to care for dogs. I've been here twice, most recently to get a lion cut for my mainecoon, Charlie. I was able to drop him off early before I went to work, and they didn't have a problem with me leaving him there until I could pick him up around closing time. Although it was pricey ($130) he looked absolutely fantastic. Well worth it considering how much fur he had on his 3ft long body, and I'm sure being a cat, he wasn't the easiest to bathe! I have been taking my dog here for some time and always have to get the groom redone. It's usually on the spot and doesn't take long, but a couple times i have had to come back. Even when it's done, I am not happy. I am not that picky, but I like the hair to be even and the hair around his face to be short. I think that's pretty normal, but every single time the face is long and the hair is uneven (longer in the legs usually). They have a good attitude and I have spoken to a couple knowledgeable staff, but they have one girl who answers the phone who is ditzy as heck. They do always get him very clean. I read one review about them calling someone to get her dog early. They always call me when my dog is ready, but they never say I HAVE to come early. It is made clear that I am at work until 5pm and I have never had an issue having to come early. If it did, unacceptable, but perhaps it was miscommunication. read more

There are about 10 doggy daycares around their neighborhood, but Spaw is definitely the best I've found. It's a converted townhouse, so the dogs aren't on display like some, and they even have an enclosed backyard where the dogs can do their sinful business. Their biggest space is in the basement of the house where someone plays around with the dogs all day. They have grooming services too which didn't make my dog look like a complete poof-ball. Their prices are standard-to-high for this area ($210 for 10 full days) and they do 1/2 days. All the staff is really friendly (and mostly cute women - BONUS!). A great place to put your bitch for the day! read more

Heard great things about Spaw but they didn't live up to their reputation. The store was great and the people who worked there seemed nice but we brought in our dog for a simple nail trimming and they did an inadequate job on his nails. The clipper they used was dull and left his nails jagged and ended up pulling and chipping when he was on our rug at home. We had to go to another groomer to grind them who charged us $15 for a nail trim and eat clean. The lack of quality was not worth the price. But they do have good products to buy in the store. read more

Today we took our kitty to Spaw Boutique for the second time. The first time was fine, although our kitty, who is the most docile, never-afraid-of-grooming cat in the world, ended up with a cut (which she'd never had before in 7 years of fairly regular grooming). The groomer seemed to feel quite bad about it, so we let it go, and it didn't impact our decision to return. Today, we returned for a second time. Before going, I got a call to confirm the appointment, advising me that prices had been increased by 15% because of minimum wage increases. We decided to proceed with the appointment. Today, we picked our baby up and I can assure you - we'll never bring her back again. She came back to us with her paws wrapped up in yellow tape, as both front paws were bleeding. Apparently they dry cats' hair in a cage and she was so afraid of the dryer, that she cut herself on the sides of the cage (just having a cage is an interesting choice, when glass options exist, as a glass area is what my prior groomer used). Beyond the cut paws, and the advisory that we should go to the vet tomorrow to get antibiotics, the hair cut was not up to par. The groomer barely, and very unevenly, trimmed her paws and left an unappealing tuft of hair on one side of her neck. And that's just what can be captured by photo. To top it all off, we walked out paying $160. Absolute absurdity. Interestingly, in between groomings, while cutting my cat's nails at home, I noticed that she all of a sudden started getting antsy when I would cut her nails, even biting me. As a 7-year old cat, I found it odd that she would all of a sudden start reacting like that to me cutting her nails, an activity she'd never so much as flinched as a reaction to in the past. Now, I'm genuinely concerned that her experience at Spaw is what has changed her behaviour. With her poor paws the way they are currently, I imagine we'll have long-standing issues whenever grooming her in the future. Very sad, as grooming is an unfortunate necessity with her crazy Persian hair. Edit: this matter was resolved promptly and with compassion, almost/possibly to the point that I would take my cat back. Props to Amber for making me feel much better for what happened and for taking ownership of the situation. I've changed the review from 1 to 3 stars as a result. Update several months later: the nails our cat lost have never grown back. Very sad. I hope they've stopped using the drying cages and have switched to some other, safer apparatus. read more

I will never go back here. I booked an appointment for my dog to have a bath and a blow dry (no grooming just a bath) and was told to bring him in for 11 A.M. The lady at reception indicated it would be 2-2.5 hours, which seemed reasonable to me considering they seemed quite busy. When I hadn't heard after 3 hours on the status of my dog, I called back and was told he wouldn't be ready until 5 P.M. That's 6 hours later! For a bath? When I arrived to pick the dog up, they brought me the wrong dog! Horrible experience. Will never go back. read more

I took my french bulldog here for the first time recently because I felt it would be nice to splurge a little bit and allow him to be pampered. Over the initial phone call I was assured it would be fine to drop him off in the morning before work around 8am and pick him up around 6pm. I chose Monday as it was their slowest day and I didn't want my dog to be overwhelmed with too much activity. I was hesitant about the long day but I was told he would be taken out for potty breaks. I picked him up and they charged $45 + tax although I feel like they originally quoted $40 for a standard dog bath. When we arrived home I was surprised that his collar was not adjusted to fit properly and felt that should have been checked before I had walked out of the shop. Also when we arrived home he made a beeline for his water bowl which made me very skeptical towards the quality of care at the spaw boutique. Was he deprived of water all day? Should I have specified that request instead of assuming that water would be provided? Nonetheless he smelled good after the bath although the nail clipping seemed minimal. There was also a sense of unprofessionalism as I overheard an employee ranting to a client about her employer. I wasn't trying to eavesdrop as this conversation occurred directly in the front entry which is beside the main cash. Overall it was not a good experience and I would most likely look to another salon for the next time I decide to pamper my dog. read more

I brought my cat here on a recommendation from a Facebook group nearby. I advised she had never been groomed before and to please be careful. My cat was a bit hesitant but was vibrant and talkative when I left her. Upon picking her up, they were 20 mins late post closing which I didn't mind if they were taking care of her. It sounded like a wrestling match upstairs and the cashier went up twice to help. My cat looked traumatized when she came down, as expected with a grooming ordeal for the first time. She is a very vocal kitty and didn't say anything until we were home for a while. She wouldnt let me pick her up and I noticed she was walking funny and hovered over her food bowl but wasn't sitting down. She was so needy and cuddled up beside me all night which is not her typical behaviour. The next day I clued in that she wasn't sitting on her bum and she would react as soon as I put my bottom arm below her for support. I finally got a chance to look, she was skinned about an inch long and about a half inch wide above her anus and it was extremely raw. You could see the edge of skin around the wound. No wonder she was in pain. I contacted my vet who advised this was not normal and he recommended medicated cream for her to bring her safe relief. When I contacted the store, after reviewing the notes, they stated that it wasn't them. No accountability for the issue what so ever! There was no offer to remedy the situation and I chose to sever relations as my cat will never be going there again. My cat was sore for 3 days and then bounced back to her usual self. I can provide pics to anyone who private messages me. $141 bucks later and my cat needed medical attention.... I would pass on this cat groomer. UPDATE: Thank you Eve for your message and email. VERY CONCERNED ABOUT GROOMING PRACTICES!! I had often heard great things about this location, and there boutique store has a lovely array of toys, treats and clothing. They answered the phone very professionally, and it was super easy to make an appointment to have my golden-doodle groomed. The email reminders were great, and I was very optimistic walking into the store with my 18 month old pup, on grooming day. However, things started to take a turn very quickly. I met personally with the young woman who was going to be grooming my dog. I spent a solid 10 minutes going through the grooming with her. About her nails. Choice of shampoo. And especially the type of cut. I literally and explicitly emphasized to the groomer, that I cut my dog's face hair on a weekly basis...and under NO CIRCUMSTANCE do I want her face or head touched. Her face looked cute, and had beautiful length which matched the proportions of her nose, ears, eyebrows etc. The groomer appeared to be paying attention...but I would find out later, had no interest in anything I had to say. I felt like I was being repetitive while in the store, because I told her on 3 separate occasions, I do not want her face or head touched...and she promised me she would 'blend' the coat from her body into her neck, and not touch her head/face area. I was called to pick up my dog within the stipulated 2-3 hours after dropping her off. I came to pick her up, and to my horror...she had basically been shaved...every single inch of her body. My girlfriend didn't even know it was our dog, when they brought her out. She looks like an alien...and the entire cut, was not only unprofessional (for not following clear direction), but was unprofessional for not understanding how different breeds need to be trimmed, to allow them to remain flattering. It will take 3-5 months, for my dog to look anything like how she normally does. The groomer was full of excuses, and at no time even acknowledged that she clearly had no intention of following any part of my request. The one thing I want to emphasize is, my entire relationship with this groomer, stands in contrast to the professionalism and customer service of the remaining staff. But, if this is the kind of person that is 'customer facing' on behalf of SPAW, then they are really not in touch with how to please their clientele. CG read more

We take our dog Bailey for the doggy daycare almost every weekday. Unlike other places we've been too, she gets excited immediately when we walk in the door and wags her little tail furiously at the staff there. Unlike humans, dogs simply cannot lie about their experiences and attitudes. Our little puppy was a neglected rescue that we adopted- she has severe separation anxiety and needs to be with someone at all times (for the time being). I am seeing her house training and anxiety improve the more I leave her at Spaw. She doesn't come home tired, but she comes home happy and that's really all I care about. Her positive reactions to the staff at Spaw actually make me laugh out loud in glee. They don't believe in crating and have comfy beds for the dogs to sleep on. They also separate the dogs depending on temperament and size. I am overall quite impressed with my experience there. Although alittle rough on the bank, their prices are the industry standard. I recently brought my cat in for a lion cut due to him having bad matting when i adopted him. When i went to pick him up, he looked normal as far as i could see from inside his carrier. The groomer mentioned randomly that he was doing good until she touched his tail and then he went crazy and attacked her. (Im touching his tail right now and he never has had a problem with that) She also said that when she left for the bathroom for 2 minutes and came back, he had bitten and broken a nail. (1 nail is broken) When i got home i noticed he has been licking his paws. And i looked and that every toe had blood on them and the nails were cut up to the knuckle. Im starting to think she was just trying to cover herself for her mistake. How is his tail shaved and trimmed if u couldnt touch it without him biting you? And how did my cat break every single nail on his body with 2 minutes to bite them? I cant believe i spent $170 to injure my cat...unbelievable. Even if u screwed up, start cutting the nails less deep? Or stop?? I told her i didnt care if his tail was shaved or not, so if he was attacking her why did she shave the tail. Everyone was so nice and kind and i didnt have a worry in the world. But with these results i question a lot...Not to just be completely negative, the employees were very nice and communicated often and called us multiple times to confirm the information needed. The payment process was easy and quick and they handled covid procedures properly. The cut was also fine and he looks great. My dog Norman went to spa only once when my dog walker was away. He had a blast and I even got a report card at the end of the day saying he was a perfect gentleman. Kind of pricey- I think $27 for the day- so I wouldn't use it on a regular basis (and we also have the world's most fantastic dog walker anyways!). But definitely fun for an occasional day. At first I was afraid to go in thinking that it would be pricey but after a reassuring phone call I made the great choice to take my little guy in for a proper bath. I am so impressed and happy with my clean fur child. The bath package did the trick. His ears needed done and his nails and now he looks ready for anything. He even walked home with a bit more swagger than he normally has. I will definitely be returning when he needs another cleaning. They even sent him home with a festive holiday bandana!
