I would strongly recommend against using this business for grooming. I get my chow chow groomed once every two months or so and decided to try this business for the first time as it is very close to me. Originally I thought that the groomer did a good job. However, shortly after returning home I noticed that my dog was picking at the area around her dewclaw. A closer look showed that her dewclaw was injured and bleeding. It was the long weekend so I could not take her to the vet until Tuesday. She continued to pick at her dewclaw and it continued to bleed.
The vet examined her and said her dewclaw was ripped. It had likely caught in a brush during the grooming and was injured. In fact, there was no other incident that could have resulted in this injury to my dog on that very same afternoon she was groomed and then came straight home. The vet gave her pain medication and a cone and advised to keep her coned until the dewclaw was less sensitive and she would pick at it less. He said it would take 2-3 months to heal as the dewclaw needed to grow out again. The visit cost a total of $200 and I will likely need to bring her in for at least one follow up appointment.
I am an understanding person and certainly know that mistakes can happen. The injury was certainly not the worst thing that could happen, but it was expensive to deal with and I of course hate to have to cone my dog. I called this business to advise of the issue with the grooming. The person I spoke to was very nice and apologetic and told me that he would have the owner call me. I left my name and number. After almost a week went by without hearing from them, I called again to follow up.
Later the same day I received a call from the owner. The call was very bizarre. I was quite shocked that the owner was very defensive and argumentative from the beginning and simply denied that the business did anything wrong. This was upsetting to me as I was not questioning in any way where this had happened - my dog is over four years old now and is groomed regularly and this has never happened before. The owner completely mischaracterized my instructions to the groomer when I dropped her off and simply shrugged the whole thing off. He argued with me every time I tried to say anything and made it clear he would not be offering any kind of recompense, and I questioned why he had bothered to call me back. This is certainly no way to run a business.
I had hoped to find a more local groomer, but I will not be returning to this business and I would caution anyone else against using them. Mistakes of course happen but should be dealt with an honest and caring manner. If your dog is injured by the groomer here, you can expect this owner to be untruthful, unapologetic and unhelpful. Steer clear. read more
