I hired Maggie two weeks ago to groom my Persian mix kitties and to say it was a bad experience…read morewould be an understatement. She showed up an hour and half late with no hair dryer and a dirty trimmer, full of hair from her last appointment, which she only gave a quick superficial clean that consisted of brushing the hair out and spraying it down with disinfectant for 10 seconds before she started to use them on my cat. My older cat was nicked a total of 6 times including two bad ones that nearly lobbed off a nipple and on her ear (?!?), while my younger one had the most patchy cut, bald in some spots and long tufts of hair in others. I understand that cats are difficult to groom and all about their thin skins but I have been having my cats groomed for 13 yrs and the sum of all the injuries they have incurred that period of time is two (one each). 6 nicks on one cat in a single session is just far too many and a result of carelessness or inexperience. The worst part is Maggie either didn't know or didn't disclose on purpose, that my cat had been hurt so many times. I only noticed the nick on her nipple when Maggie was here (because my cat was hiding and wouldn't allow me to look her over properly till much later) and when I brought it to her attention she appeared to not know about it and said if it was not bleeding then it would heal by itself. She didn't even check to see how bad it was and now in retrospect, I think it was because she didn't want me to see the rest of the nicks before she left. When I contacted her to express my disbelief and how upset I was, she first said it was because my cats were difficult which shocked me because I offered to help her several times but she assured me that my cats were quite well behaved and she could handle them. Then, she blamed her tools saying her blade must have been dull at the end of a long day of grooming (no kidding!). In hindsight, there were so many red signals that I shouldn't have ignored, however, I decided to cut her some slack since it was my first time with her and my appointment was her last one of the day. I thought I was entrusting my cats to an experienced groomer based on the glowing google and yelp reviews and that having them groomed at home would be less stressful for my cats but it turned out to be an experience I absolutely regret. Ps. I'm not just another lazy, entitled pet owner, I comb them every other day and neither of my cats had big knots/matts or were pelted but they dislike being combed especially, around their hind legs and tails so despite my best efforts after a while, professional intervention is required.

I hired her for the first time when I went on a trip to Montreal for a few days and she definitely put my mind at ease with the amount of detail she put into ensuring both OJ and myself feel comfortable. She gave me an update after every visit and even took pics for me. She also didn't make any decisions without running it by me first. OJ didn't need insulin for one of the visits and she confirmed with me first before making any decisions. If that were someone else, they probably would have given him insulin anyway even if his sugar was too low, which would have endangered his life. She's simply amazing! And she cares! She knows what she's doing and her attention to detail is something that anyone with a cat with special needs requires. No need to worry because she knows what she's doing! Debra and Dave were soooo nice and I could tell they really cared about our cats. The best part is that the cats have been super affectionate since their cuts, like it was such a relief to get rid of all that fur. My female cat in particular is very skittish...I was expecting her to hide under our bathtub for a couple days after we got home (like she does when we take her to the vet) but she was rolling around on her back, being frisky and following us around all night. I thought this would be a one-time thing until I could start resuming my daily vacuuming routine again, but based on how much my cats seem to love their new haircuts, we'll definitely be back. (Just a reminder -- if you ever let your cat outdoors...which you shouldn't, but if you do...please don't ever shave them. Their fur protects them against the sun and elements. So we had to leave for a week and really did not want to overload relatives with sitting of our cat, so I finally decided to give this business a try. Scheduling was pretty easy, it is done through their website where you complete a short questionnaire about your darling feline and shortly after you receive an email confirming the dates and giving you the name of you sitter. You will also receive an invoice which you can pay by PayPal or to the sitter. The sitter will contact you to arrange for keys pick up and to meet the puss. During this visit you show around your place(location of food, litter, toys etc) and sign an agreement outlining the terms of service. I think it would have been a good idea for me to get the copy beforehand, I'm sure you can also request for it to be mailed to you when booking. Some main points in the agreement include the payment schedule and the emergency plan in case of illness (name and address of your vet, emergency contacts). What took me by surprise is that one of the points states that they are not liable for the loss of home or possessions in it, which basically means that you have to blindly trust the person you give your keys to...hm. In our case everything was fine, no emergencies happened and I could tell that the cat has been well cared for, when we came back, there was still some food and a lot of water left in the bowls and the toilet was properly maintained. The shedding was minimal which indicates that the kitty did not stress much. My only concern and the reason for the star off is that our sitter was a smoker and I naively thought that pet sitters just like child sitters are supposed to come in a non-smoker package, apparently I was wrong about that and the next time will try to specify my requests accordingly. I also thought there would be more feedback during our away time, but I only got one email and only after I myself requested the status update. After we got home I got an email from the scheduler confirming that we are back and that the cat is not alone, which I thought was a thoughtful touch.
