They have a great selection of aquarium driftwood and rocks! The staff were very friendly. One lady brought me a stool to sit on as I was sifting through the wood and lava rock. Then later she brought me a basket when she saw me struggling to carry my heavy driftwood and lava rock while browsing. I will definitely go back the next time I need more hardscape for my tanks! read more

If you are looking for a good laugh come to this place. The people that own this store are psychotic. I came in looking for a small fish after finding out that their gold fish prices are 30 dollars for a small size gold fish. After not showing any interest she asked me to leave the store saying it closes at 7:00 pm which it was 6:40. After I left, the two owner mocked me in a very unprofessional manner saying "I bet you have never been kicked out of a store before" as well as implying that I don't have any money because 30 dollars for a gold fish is normal. The female owner said "you are very stupid you probably think that the world is square because you don't know anything". They have a no picture sign in front of their store which confused me at first but now I totally understand why, some of their gold fishes had bubble eye disease which explains the no picture.If you are just browsing the fish section I would suggest you to say I am looking for a fish to fit in my ponds me try to sound interested or you will get kicked out very fast in a unprofessional manner. read more

I went into this pet store in the basement of a Chinese mall and I found it to be way overpriced the fish in particular were far far too expensive compared to other pet stores ive been to.They were selling a small catfish for about 20.00 when I can get the exact same catfish for about 7.99 or so at Pet Smart or Pet Value and even Menagerie Pet store on Parliament Street has much better more reasonable prices.The Lady showed me some Betta fish for 79.99 or the cheapest for 49.99 and then she showed me a Betta fish that looked very sick or very old and said to me oh I can give you this fish for 9.99 yeah right okay I dont think so.If I buy that sick fish it will probably die in two or three days if not sooner and why would I buy a very sick or dying fish for .That really put me off ,the nerve of her.I find other pet stores such as Pet Value and Pet Smart and Menagerie have much bettter prices than this store does.All the fish there were double and tripple the price of other pet stores.I dont think i'm going to go back there again.I just dont feel like paying 20.00 for one single small fish and some of the other Catfish were like 39.99 or so. read more

My cousin didn't have five cents and neither did I so the owner waived five cents off and joked "don't tell anyone" lol The place is clean and big, and seems to be full of all the supplies needed. awful. i'm sorry, i don't like leaving bad reviews, but i dislike people who abuse their animals more. the only reason i bought a fish here is because he was a pale betta in a tiny bowl and looked like he was dying. there was a speck of food or something in the tiny bowl as well. he was left on top of a random tank, not even near the other betas. when i came back the next day, he was in the same spot. he was way overpriced for a beta, especially for a sick one. don't bother unless you're trying to rescue. they even told me he's a picky eater, when in reality he's just too sick to eat. he's alive and getting some proper care now. also, there was a huge fish in a tank in the corner that had a back so curved it looked broken. they just want your money. they encouraged me to buy one thing at a time instead of getting everything at once. please go somewhere where they take care of their animals. don't give money to people who don't care about the animals in their custody. read more

Very bizarre, they are always overly defensive and secretive. Seems like they take it personal if you come in and dont buy anything. The livestock section was "closed" off to the public and you need permission to see it. One time she allowed me to go browse, but I was closely monitored and followed throughout the whole ordeal. read more

'I asked the lady in the store counter for advise ( i believe she was the owner). I asked her which fish would go best with my Betta fish, I end up buying two fishes which she told me was highly compatible with the one i have, which turned out to be the worst one i could have bought. Super frustrated and now im stuck with the fishes, cant return them.( my mistake for not doing my research ahead of time) The prices are are really jacked up. about 30-40% marked up. Poor service the few times i went in there and the staff seems clueless most of the time. I saw one tank with dead/ half dead gold fishes on display. Would give 0 stars if that was an option. The staff are very rude and uneducated about the fish they are selling. I was told I buy the owner I could stock 8 extremely aggressive fish together in a 5 gallon tank. A quick google will tell you only 1 of these species may be safely kept in a 5 gallon tank. Also everything is ridiculously overpriced, fish that you can buy elsewhere are marked up almost 400% I would not recommend this business to anyone unless I didn't like them. They have a lot of variety of fishes. It is extremely pricey compared to Menagerie, around $20 for a veil tail compared to $8 and $4 for a ghost shrimp compared to $0.50. I bought a beta fish here. It had some fin rotting and a torned fin. On the receipt, it said no returns, only exchanges. I wanted to exchange it for shrimps/plants as I changed my mind about the beta fish. Well, turns out they don't do exchanges for beta fishes. I wish the saleslady told me about that before I bought it. read more

I've just come back from the shop after a lunch time stroll during work. Pros: - Variety of fish Cons: - Price (almost 3 times as much for most of the live stock you will find in Pet Smart) - Location (I used public transport but parking there would be a nightmare - Staff (unfriendly , language barrier) Overall I'd just go to Pet Smart unless there is a particular variety of fish that you are looking for in which case I'd call ahead to see if they have it in stock. read more

Great store. Fishes are very healthy and active. The aquariums are not crowded at all. The fish have bright colours because on how well they are taken care of. The staff is well educated on how they choose there fish that they order. They order from local places. I recently bought Rummy-nose tetra and cherry shrimp and they are very happy. I would highly recommend for everyone to buy there fish from there store. Don't use stores like PJ's Pets or pet smart. Because there fish are ordered from places like china and Vietnam that are crammed in little tiny containers with thousands of fish when shipped to Canada. And the staff here at Downtown Pets and Aquariums give great deals on the fish. read more

WORST AQUARIUM STORE EVER. I bought one little yellow-finned fish (for 3x the price of the same one at Big Al's) only to discover it had anchorworm 2 days later (definitely from the store- I put it in a brand new, cycled tank). I also bought a $22 (!!) pearl scale goldfish (for a seperate, well-maintained tank) who has had every issue A GOLDFISH CAN POSSIBLY HAVE EVER. Parasites, bacterial infections, ugliness, whatever. I've spent $30 there on antibiotics. It now has dropsy and is swirling around the tank breathing its last breaths. The the thing about incompatible grouping of fish is right- they told me to put a goldfish in my tank with everyone else. Everything from fish, to equipment, to accessories is overpriced. Only plus- outside the store in the mall there is a nice turtle hanging around a pond of goldfish. Not totally humane, but fun to look at. I rate this store ONE DEAD FISH out of a possible FIVE DEAD FISH who are slowly wasting away. read more

I have been coming here for many years and each time they are very nice. I don't think the prices are 2 to 3 times as what people are stating. Sure I could go to the dollar store and buy stuff for my dogs but they probably won't last and I don't trust it. They do a great job each time of grooming and bathing my little very fussy toy poodle. I also love looking at the large variety of fish they have. I would recommend this place as they are very knowledgeable. This store is in the basement of a mall in chinatown with a large water feature at the center. At the bottom of the stairs facing the pet store entrance, the water feature ends in a shallow pool of goldfish. The lady who I presume is the owner was really helpful and pleasant. I didn't look around because I was in a hurry, but at a casual glance everything looked fine to me. The store is a great downtown aquarium resource, I'm always grateful when I don't have to travel across town to get something for my aquarium. read more

This is the most ridiculously overpriced aquarium shop in Toronto, even for downtown. Everything, including supplies and livestock are ~20-30% higher than any other LFS. I purchased an Aqua Clear filter & Fluval substrate for +25% more expensive than what I could've paid for at a shop, such as Menagerie or PJ's Pets. And at least those places provide good service, not like DP&A which has obnoxious Chinese staff. People need to seriously stop buying here, cause they're basically running a scam and taking advantage of the lack of aquarium shops in downtown. read more

Came in on a mid week day and the lady basically said that only when you need something then you can see the fishes. They are "cleaning" the aquarium and i come all the way from USA to see their stuff. Extremely rude and bizarre prices that i saw. A total rip off and a joke of a place. Plaza is also filled with bootlegged DVDs and very surprise that are still even open. Not a good place read more

Before I went to this store, I consulted yelp and read the available reviews. I still went to confirm about the service and to see if they had good quality fish for my new aquarium tank. As soon as I went right in, they had this young Asian woman asking me " what do you want to buy", then she lifted a barrier in the entrance and let me in. There were no customers and the fish were in bad conditions, including: low water levels, dirty tanks full of algue , dead fish in most tanks and fish products were old, full of dust and many already expired. The lady who kept following me everywhere , kept trying to hide the dead fish from me as I tried asking something about a fish. At the end she said "he probably just died". Then an older lady, who was probably the owner came in and asked me " you need something" and because I knew people had been kicked out from this place before, I told her that I was not interés in anything feo. This store and exited before I got involved into an argument with this women. Around this store there are other smaller fish stores and are closed down, but still with products inside full of dust. I would definitely not go to this store again. I have found a couple of amazing stores in Mississauga, close to Dundas and Catraw and have found amazing fish and really good prices. They also offer warranties and help on how to set up a tank, how to care for your fish and what fish to choose, etc. read more
