I first came here to buy gifts for my friends' pets and now come here to buy treats for my own pup. The store looks small but they have a great selection of dog toys, including some adorable plush ones like avocado toast or chicken and waffles!! (Perfect for Yelper's pet;)). The prices may seem a bit higher for some things, but the quality is great. My dog has chewed through some cheaper toys already, but the ones I got here are still holding up. During lockdowns, they have the curbside shopping down. You stand at the table and say what you want and they will bring you a whole bunch of options you can look at. Also many of the staff seem to have been working there for years. You don't always see that a lot in retail and I think/hope this means that they treat their employees well. If you're lucky you might glimpse their resident pets in the aisles too!

I mentioned that she didn't acknowledge me and her response was that she is fixing an expensive piece of equipment. Her response was short and impatient. One of the other staff came and helped me to pick up the treats as I was holding my dog so she wouldn't start eating all the treats. I informed them that I had heard the service wasn't up to par and that they just confirmed what I chose to ignore. I walked out of the store but returned to let them know that I have lived off of Roncesvalles for over 30 years and I strongly believe in supporting local entrepreneurs. She once again responded very rudely that she also lived on Roncesvalles for that amount of time. I brought to her attention that she was once again responding very rudely to me. She actually said i had sworn at her (which i don't believe I did). She wasn't apologetic and continued to basically yell at me that she was busy fixing this piece of equipment. No need for expensive equipment in a store if you don't have any business. I left and walked up the street to Pet Smart where I was treated with respect and kindness. I was happy to learn that it is a family owned shop with a lot more variety and a friendly and helpful staff. I will be shopping there from now on. The rude woman is not the owner. The owners and any of their assistance who take shifts there I've always found to be very friendly, helpful and respectful. They have a nice variety of pet food and products to cover just about any kind of pet you can imagine and if there's someone they don't have they are willing to try to order it for you. There are some birds like budgies, canaries, finches etc in several large cages in the store which are usually for sale and occasionally the brings his own bird, a small parrot or cockatiel in for a while. There is also at least one 'resident' cat who stays there and basically has the run of the store. I can totally understand the concept of keeping a cat or two in a store that supplies pet food which would probably attract mice and other vermin. This beautiful cat is usually lounging on his mat on a corner portion of the counter, occasionally doing a walk-through of the aisles... he does an awesome job of keeping the premises free of vermin. I've always found him to be quite friendly and affectionate when I stop to pet him. I don't have any house pets at the moment but I buy wild bird seed for my bird feeders and food and treats for visiting family pets so I end up there at least once a month. When I get what I need I always add a bag of kitty treats to my purchases for the shop cat. I haven't seen the cat for months now because they keep the cat at their home during this pandemic. Whether your pets are of the domestic variety or ones who have the run of the great 'halls' of nature this is a great place to purchase what they need.
