I really would like to remove my last review. Although the store owner is obviously not a people person. She does love animals. She cares about what and how they eat. We don't go there for ourselves. We go there for our pets. And so what if she is rude to us - the humans. She will absolutely give our animals the best loving care possible. Our animals will live longer- downside is we'll be seeing her longer ha, ha ! So, if you love your pets you'll put aside petty human squabbles. We can get enough attention and love from our families. Take your pet to Pet Pantry where there is someone who knows how to care and love your pets. Not you. Your pets! read more

So this older lady working there which I think she's the store owner , so she gave me this huge lectures on English bulldogs . She said that the vet lied about getting his ears clean. I did exactly what she said and now my bulldog has an ear infection for not cleaning his ear. read more

went here w my mom and the lady tried talking to me about what I should feed my cat & when I kindly didn't care to listen she said "when your cat dies you'll understand what I mean" no business should be saying stuff like that to customers. Great Products, Terrible Customer Service I've been a loyal customer of Pet Pantry in Long Beach for several years, but after multiple experiences with the owner, Patty, I've finally had enough. The store is out of stock far too often, which is frustrating when you're trying to buy food your dog regularly eats. But honestly, the inventory issues aren't even the biggest problem. What makes this experience so disappointing is the way Patty treats customers when they ask about products that are out of stock. My fiancée and I have repeatedly asked simple, reasonable questions about when products will be back in stock. Instead of being helpful, Patty has been rude, dismissive, and unnecessarily confrontational. The attitude makes you feel like you're bothering her just by asking a question. That's not how you treat loyal customers. I understand that a small business can have supply issues. What I don't understand is why a customer who has supported your business for years should be made to feel unwelcome for asking when a product might be available again. At some point, good products aren't enough to make up for consistently poor customer service. There are plenty of other pet stores that can sell me the same products without making me feel like I'm an inconvenience for being a customer. I've supported this business for years, but after repeated interactions like this, I'm taking my business elsewhere. Pros: Good selection when products are actually in stock. Cons: Frequently out of stock, rude and dismissive owner, poor customer service, and a complete lack of appreciation for loyal customers. 1/5 stars. The products may be good, but the customer service needs a serious attitude adjustment. read more

Came into the store and went looking around. There are so many great options for your pets. I am a new cat owner and want the best for her. I've been trying to figure it out with online tips. I met the owner patty, who has a passion for her business and what it's there for. To give the best options for your pet. We discussed a lot better methods to care for my cat. I am grateful for the care and time she took to educate me. I feel that if I need to ask a question I can always reach out to her for the best advice for my new pet kitten. Also, I read the comments and notice a few people not appreciative of her big personality.. I beg to differ. She wants the best for your pet. Some people don't like the truth or worse they want it served all sugar coated and on a silver platter while feeding you with a silver spoon. You got to look at peoples intentions and discern it. I would rather speak to someone who is truthful, direct, and sincere than a silver-tonged devil(you have heard the saying) Blessed to have found this place and will not step into a PetSmart or petco if I can help it moving forward. read more

Beware of the older lady in the shop as she will overcharge you!!! I've been coming here for over a year to buy the same 50lb pound bag of Next Level for the same price. Today they were out of the 50lb pound bag and only had the 40lb. She charged me the same price as the 50lb when I walked out and realized what she had done I came back to let her know. She was very confrontational and first told me it was the taxes. I told her that made no sense as I've been paying that same price for the larger bag. She then said it was because they went up in price 8 months ago, complete lie!!!! I think she did a mistake and charge me the wrong bag and wasn't willing to admit that and fix it. Sad because it was good shop and the gentleman that works there is amazing. Not okay to overcharge even if it's $10 dollars! read more

I went in the other day trying to purchase two bags of dog food like I usually do but the lady working which seems to be the owner wouldn't let me and was very rude. The owner knows a lot about animal nutrition. You must talk to her to learn how to best feed your pet.

I went in today and felt like I was living in an SNL skit. I had a lot of time to kill while waiting for my tire services across the street and my phone was dead. As soon as I walked in here it was such an odd vibe for a pet store. Really creepy decor and it smelled like wet barn. I heard the owner yelling at someone on the phone about how a vet in bixby knolls is crazy and how the person she was speaking to shouldn't "EVER GIVE HER DOG THAT TYPE OF FOOD UNLESS SHE WANTS TO KILL IT" I knew I had found my entertainment and time killer. As soon as she was off the phone I thought yay my turn! So I asked her about cat food. It was immediately clear she was an intense conspiracy theorist and anti vaxxer. I rage baited her for a bit and got some great quotes out of it. I am inspired to start doing improv/stand up just to use her as a character. I'm an actor so in someway this interaction will live in my heart and character pocket forever lol. Terrible customer service and just everything but honestly I would come back time and time again to hear this woman's ramblings for the pure entertainment of it all. So 5 stars for crazy patty who truly made my day today read more

Lovely little pet food store. I would highly recommend. I love to support our local small businesses.

Visiting this location, gives me anxiety. The owner pushes the brand Next Level and I feel there is a bit of a bias because of a family relationship with the brand owner. On the three occasions I've visited I felt racial prejudice. I never felt like I was fully heard and my shopping experience was steered in a particular direction. Owner's attitude is very rude. read more

I didn't get a chance to take a look at the entire store but just by looking upon entering, I can see there's a lot of options. I did have the most unpleasant experience in here as soon as I came across the owner. I had my rescue pup with me and she decided to make some snarky comments about the pup being in the store. I stayed kind, put down the bag of treats I grabbed, and left the store. read more

Beware of older lady, very opinionated aggressive , asked one question about a leash and got reprimanded about the food I'm feeding my dog just because I told her my dog is aggressive, you're better off going to marshals pet section lol read more

Good-- the store is very clean and has a wide selection of pet food. It has high quality food and I can tell that the owner cares very much for the animals and pets. Bad-- The owner is probably a Trump supporter. She has stickers on her register making fun of Gavin Newsom, other political stickers that makes me assume she is conservative. (one time when giving me a plastic bag, she told me she didn't care if Gavin Newsom made a law for no plastic bags). Had she separated her politics from her store, I wouldn't have ever known and probably continued to shop there. At the end of the day we live in a free country so support small businesses and whoever you feel like giving your money to. I will not though, as I am very against Trump and this administration and the unlawful things happening in our country. Since this is out there, make your own decision of where u wanna put your money. read more

I can't say enough good things about Patty, the owner of Pet Pantry in Signal Hill. One of our community cats was very sick, and the local vet recommended hospitalization and a blood transfusion that would have cost close to $5,000. I was overwhelmed and didn't know what to do. Patty took the time to really listen, walk me through nutrition options, and suggest supportive care products that could help strengthen the cat naturally. With proper nutrition, targeted supplements, and consistent care, the cat began to recover. I truly believe Patty's knowledge and guidance made a huge difference. She didn't just try to sell me products -- she educated me. She explained ingredients, why certain foods matter, and how preventative nutrition can make a long-term impact. Because of her help, I've also improved the preventive care routine for our other cats. It's rare to find someone who genuinely cares about animals and the community the way Patty does. Pet Pantry isn't just a pet store -- it's a place where you get real support, honest advice, and someone who wants the best for your pets. If you care about your animals' health, I highly recommend stopping by and talking to Patty. read more

If there are more than 1 reviewers stating that you are racist, ageist, condescending and too opinionated, chances are: you're probably all of those. To reviewers saying she chases you outside her store when you don't buy things; that is true and has happened to me. (Or she'll just stare at you from the door and attempt to look intimidating). To the reviewers that said she was racist: one time my boyfriend went into THIS establishment with a raiders hat on, patty admitted "I love Jon Gruden I don't care what he said" then proceeded to talk about the season while checking us out. I had to ask my boyfriend who that was after because when she said that to him his eyebrows raised I couldn't understand what had just happened. (He was a coach who got terminated for discriminating against African American players and calling them slurs). In another situation there was an older gentleman in front of me wanting to buy a 30lb dog food mix, when he brought it up front she told the man "oh next time call me before you come in to get this brand so I can know to stock up more for next time" (he's not in inventory nor an employee so why would he have to do that?) man seemed already irritated with her so he didn't respond back which you could tell got to patty because what happened afterwards was this man paid for his food and when she gave him his change back he was like "wait a minute I'm $20 short." He grabs the money from the counter and starts counting it, she LITERALLY grabs the money out of HIS hands and starts counting it back to him saying "I'm REAL good at math don't worry I'm REALLY good at math". Turns out the guy was wrong, but there are ways to go about it. Instead as he walked away and I approach the counter she scoffed and said "men!" as if I would agree: I don't. These situations have happened in a 3 year span. All in all I haven't returned in 5 months and don't plan on it. Nothing in this review is fabricated which hurts me to say because I LOVE the gentleman that works here he's always so welcoming, funny, kind, and informative in a way that doesn't seem like you're suffocating. read more

A Truly Wonderful Place for Dogs! PET Pantry is hands-down one of the best places I've ever taken my dog, Lucy. We've used both their grooming and daycare services, and I can honestly say -- I love it, and so does Lucy! The level of care Marlene provide is amazing. From the moment we walk in, Marlene greets us with warm smiles and genuine affection for Lucy. She's always excited to go in, which tells me everything I need to know. The grooming services are top-tier -- Lucy comes back looking absolutely adorable, fresh, and happy every single time. The groomers are gentle, skilled, and treat her like their own. The daycare is just as fantastic. I feel completely at ease knowing Lucy is in a safe, loving environment where she's not just watched, but truly cared for and engaged with. Thank you, PET Pantry, for going above and beyond. We're lucky to have found you! read more

Great place and Patty knows pet nutrition really well! i highly recommend Pet Pantry.

I met Pat at Veteran & First Responders service dog training session and I mentioned to her that my SA kept having digestive issues. I tried several different dog food brands and could not find the one dog food that worked. Pat suggested that I come to her store and recommended NEXT LEVEL and she nailed it! My SA has not had any digestive issues since. Also, I save on the store price than any other store our website and I get a treat for my SA. Thank you Pet Pantry and thank you Pat! read more

I cannot say enough amazing things about Pet Pantry and especially the owner, Patty. She is not just the owner--she's a true canine nutritionist who is unbelievably passionate, dedicated, and knowledgeable about what she does. I've never met anyone in the pet industry who cares this much. Before finding her, I had been in and out of the vet for three weeks straight. My dog was going through severe GI issues, constant discomfort, and I felt completely lost. Nothing the vet gave us was helping, and the final straw was when they wrote her a prescription food diet. Out of desperation, I called Pet Pantry to see if they carried the prescription food. That phone call changed everything. Patty didn't sell prescription foods--but instead of just saying no and hanging up, she took the time to truly listen. She even turned down multiple customers who walked into the store just so she could help me figure out what was really going on with my dog. Who does that anymore? Patty does. She explained why she refuses to carry certain prescription diets and educated me about the multiple recalls associated with the exact food my vet prescribed--recalls that had even resulted in dogs dying. I was shocked. No vet had mentioned any of this to me. Patty helped me understand my dog's nutritional needs in a way no veterinarian ever did. She created a plan tailored to my dog's situation, walked me through everything step by step, and made sure I knew exactly what ingredients and foods would help heal her gut rather than irritate it further. And the results? My dog is now 98% better. After weeks of suffering, it took Patty's knowledge and genuine care to turn things around. I honestly believe Patty saved my dog's life. Her expertise in nutrition, her passion for animals, and her dedication to helping pet parents is something incredibly rare to find. If you care about your pet's long-term health, Pet Pantry is THE place to go. Nutrition is everything for our pets, and Patty is the person you want guiding you. She's truly one of a kind, and I am forever grateful for her. read more

Just had the worst experience. This was the first time visiting, its my dogs 11th birthday and we were waiting for this lady to receive orders before we went in and she started screaming at us . Not sure what the deal is with this place but do not recommend. read more

I've been a customer for a little over 5 years and my min pin's health is thriving because of the dog health tips from Patty the owner of Pet Pantry. She's shared tips regarding best food and treats to feed him. One of the best tips has been applying coconut oil with a baby nipple to his teeth to help with his breath and teeth cleaning. What a difference compared to taking him to the vet for an expensive teeth cleaning which is not as helpful. Thanks Patty for all you do for our dogs! U R the best! read more

She was very rude and made a lot of comments of stuff that were very unnecessary. I don't know if she doesn't like young adults but seeing how she talked to older adults compared to me and my boyfriend was very different. Talked to us like we were dumb, but all we had was questions.... we've tried just to go for the sake of our dog because the dog food she recommended is amazing. But I don't think I feel comfortable here, she is very knowledgeable and advocate for pets, her attitude and the way she spoke to us was not the best. But the other guy who works there was so nice & helped us was amazing!! Thank you to him! read more

I had a very disappointing experience with Pet Pantry. The owner was quick to refund unopened Victor dog food I already had at home, stating she could easily get her money back. However, when it came to Next Level dog food that she sold me--food that made my dog vomit and refuse to eat--she would not issue a refund and would only offer store credit. I was also repeatedly pressured to continue feeding this product despite my dog getting sick. The inconsistent refund policy and the lack of concern for my dog's reaction are the main reasons for this review. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this business. read more

We love this pet store ever since we found it. The owner, Patty, is so passionate about helping animals and educating the owners. She has a phenomenal wealth of knowledge with her background in being an animal nutritionist and dietitian. When I was fostering a rescue dog until my mom in MS could adopt him, she went above and beyond with her expertise. The first time I came in, she recommended the perfect food for him based on his history and age and gave me the first bag of food for free since he was a rescued foster. She also took my contact information so she could help my mom locate the food in her area. She sent me the details after she had researched and found the information. We deeply appreciate her time and patience. She helped us so much with the rescue dog. I had told her about how bad his breath was and the thick calculus build up in his teeth. His previous owners were neglectful, only feeding him human scraps and not brushing his teeth. I mentioned how the vet quoted $2,000 for a cleaning + $300 per tooth extraction so we were going to have to wait a few weeks until he got to MS because it would be cheaper. Patty reassured me it's a scam, canines in the wild don't get extractions, the teeth fall out naturally. Told me now that he's on good quality kibble, the teeth will fall out naturally and the calculus will also start to come off. Less than a week later, his bad tooth fell out on its own, not a drop of blood, just ready to come out. I bet he feels so much more comfortable now, and the foul odor is gone. I can't imagine how painful it was living like that. Thank you Patty for giving him relief and saving us $2,300+ !!! read more

Patty is not one for blowing smoke. I've been through all the food and products recommended by vets and did nothing for my pup. I was sent to see Patty at Pet Pantry in Signal Hill for diet suggestions for my 5 month old cane corso. He had digestive issues and not a very healthy looking coat with red skin every now and then. One visit to Pet Pantry, I follow the feeding instructions for my transition to Next Level dog food for large breed dogs of all ages and 2 weeks later I haven't seen one loose poop, coat is shining, and spots are filling in. My pup is even responding better to potty training. This is my only place for food. Patty doesn't claim to be a vet at all, but her knowledge and passion from a Nutritionist to see your companion look and feel a 100% is a win. Definitely come check out the wall of shame to see if what you been feeding your pet is sitting front and center. read more

When I asked her about the ones I am currently feeding my animals, she brought out articles for me to read as to why those options are ones I should shy away from with proven facts to back it up. She then offered me suggestions of new foods, treats, litter which would better serve my animals. I ended up going home with a few samples but within a few days was back to purchase the whole cart. My animals are now on : Stella and Chewys Freeze Dried Raw Coated Kibble Victors Super Premium Dog Food And the litter I use I am obsessed with. So natural and fresh smelling.
