Very nice restaurant in the east side of Providence. Nestled in between historical houses and old trees. The inside is warm and cozy and clean. This place had amazing food and I loved how it was small plates that were reasonably price so you can try a lot of different items. I loved we had to eat, especially the black spaghetti and the croquettes. I also had an espresso martini which was tasty and a good pairing with the food. We loved the experience of Persimmon!! The pictures online really do not do it justice. It is nestled into a really cute neighborhood in Providence and the interior is very homey. Everything on the menu sounded delicious so we ordered a lot of things! Everything was amazing and we were really really impressed with everything we ordered, from drinks, apps, entrees, and desserts. This is probably the best food in all of Providence! My only complaint is that the dinner took a long long time, but because the food was so so so good, we didn't mind waiting. I would highly highly recommend! read more

I got to visit Persimmon (finally). The food was great. I got to try a few different things with the beef tartare really standing out. The portions were perfect for trying various dishes; so I did. We've been wanting to try Persimmon ever since we heard that it was one of Jacques Pepin's favorite restaurants in Providence - and it didn't disappoint! Lively, cheerful, and welcoming on this mild Friday evening, we started off on the right foot with an amuse-bouche of rosemary-scented focaccia with olive oil and salt. We shared appetizers of: salmon tartare, deviled eggs with smoked trout, vegetable croquets, and brussels sprout salad (nice hint of kimchi in there, just enough for some bite). All were excellent, particularly the salad and salmon tartare. We followed with a tasting of all their pastas: spaghetti bolognese, ravioli cacio et pepe, sweet potato gnocchi, and black (squid ink) pasta. These were all very good, with the ravioli and the bolognese being simply outstanding. The only downside was the lack of a bread basket to sop up all the leftover sauces - but we did a pretty good job regardless with our spoons and fingers! For my main entree, I had their foie gras and duck neck confit - this was lusciously decadent and the duck neck confit was surprisingly tasty and crisply seared. My daughters had the duck breast and duck leg confit - these were also very good with a nicely crisped skin; as well as the pork shoulder which was very tender and juicy. For dessert, we shared the chocolate tart, pizelle with passionfruit mousse, and ricotta fritters with a rosemary/olive oil ice cream; these were interesting but not quite as impressive as their appetizers and entrees. Really happy we came here! We went with the chef's tasting menu, and were very impressed by the creativity of the chef. Multiple dishes were like "I've never tasted anything like this'". The combination of ingredients were often out of box but perfect. They also were very accommodating with our dietary restrictions, husband is gluten free and I have to eat fully cooked food with my pregnancy, so they did a fully customized thing for us, which was amazing and made us feel really special. Their menu obviously changes often, so it's very nice to have seasonal, fresh ingredients. I can tell a lot of people here come repeatedly, which is another great sign. We were a party of four on New Year's Eve celebrating our anniversaries. We started at the bar for a cocktail before dinner when they opened at 5 PM and we had one of the first reservations at 5:30 PM. (We finished dinner at 10:45 PM) Yes, we were there for for a total of 6 hours! The chef was accommodating when they let our table order one prix fixe dinner option and three chef tastings (They would not have been able to do a chef tasting menu for a vegetarian so they let her order the four course prix fixe menu). Although the service tonight was not as it should have been, the food was still amazing. The problem was that we waited 30 to 40 minutes between plates at times and they forgot the wine pairing on three different occasions. I had to ask for the wine myself and sometimes it even came after I finished the course. This is just not acceptable at a restaurant of this quality and I would have been understanding if the manager took something off the bill at the end. It was New Year's Eve and they were busy because there was a table of 40 that obviously took precedence over our table of four. However, there were many other tables that changed over to new customers 2 to 3 times while we were there. It was like they forgot about us at times. Like I said, when it takes over five hours to finish a tasting and they can't follow through like they normally would, there should have been an apology and the bill should have comped in someway. We didn't complain, but we shouldn't have to at a place like this. read more

Highly Recommend ! This is a rare finding high quality restaurant. I am defini a foodie but also extremely picky. I haven't got lucky to find a gem for the last couple years. This is the one I finally found in years! Persimmon is one of the farm to table concept that gets fresh ingredients from local but also includes from afar in unique, one of a kind way. Flavor and combination of ingredients are brilliant. All spices were never overtaking the natural and original tastes of the ingredients. Their service was amazing and the staffs were having great knowledge of each dishes. There was a wedding on the side space at the restaurant, which was so cute! Because of the greatness of their foods, I could even consider to have my wedding there! I have been waiting so long to try to find the opportunity but finally made it and it was so much worth it than expected. Amazing gem in the Providence, RI area. Arrived 30minutes early and was seated right away. Ambiance was cozy, dimly lit, and we'll decorated. Food was fresh with flavors really well balanced! Be warned some appetizers I felt were a smidge over priced.. we ordered the stuffed chicken wing for $9 which was a bit steep for a single wing (but I will say was executed really well). The entrees/ mains are also on the smaller side. My advice: order a protein dish and a carb. Desserts were however really generously proportioned by price point (compared to entrees) and superbly done. Solid place, will be back to try their tasting menu if ever in the area! read more

I'm a little late in writing this review. Sine we went last month. I took my wife to Persimmon for our 18th anniversary. This was a really cool experience. My wife told me the portions are really small, she said it's all about the experience. And that it was, in a good way. When we arrived we were sat at a nice two top in the corner of the restaurant. Which love because I love to observe everything and everyone. Our waiter (George) was great. Very informative and helped us through the whole experience. We started with the Croquettes and a grilled salad. The Croquettes were delicious. The salad was too salty for my taste, but my wife loved it. Then our 2nd course, my wife had the vegan eggplant lasagna, again absolutely delicious, I had the spaghetti bolognese. It was rich and creamy, totally on point. Then we had the seared sea scallops. Now that was a home run! We both loved that dish. For dessert my wife had the strawberry cheesecake. It was cute when it came out there were three little pieces of the strawberry Cheesecake like the size of a half dollar. Like I said it was cute. The presentation on all the dishes were very good. Really big plates almost platters with a small portion of that dish. I'm not complaining about the size I'm just trying to describe them accurately. The ambiance was very trendy I guess you could say. It was packed and very loud in there. Almost to the point where I was getting a tad bit uncomfortable. Great people watching for sure. We did the Chef Tasting and were disappointed. While the service was friendly, it was very inconsistent. Some of the dishes came out either too hot or too cold. The first course burned my taste buds. Wowow this place! I can't say enough good things. My boyfriend and I came for Valentines dinner, and boy was it worth the money! We got the tasting menu with wine pairing, plus the foie gras. Omg the food was to die for. The sommelier gave us great education about wines and his pairings were delectable. Seriously heaven in every bite! I almost died with the truffle and mushroom risotto. My soul left my body with the foie gras. That chicken coconut curry was a perfect dance of creamy flavorful goodness in my mouth. My only regret was that we had neither the money nor the stomach space to eat more. There were tables with pasta dishes that looked amazing, but unfortunately we didn't get any on the tasting menu. One of the better spots in PVD and maybe RI. Parking is on the street so you may have to hunt a bit. Be careful when booking - do not use Open Table (they are on Resy) as it books you at Persimmon in Maryland. We discovered that en route but they were able to fit us in at the bar. They said our mistake was not uncommon.. Four of us had a nice evening although sitting parallel via bar sitting. However, that ensured even better service as the bartender was there at all times. We had a round of cocktails (their mezcal version is quite good). Split 2 appetizers - good but not memorable and not quite enough to split for 4. This is mainly a slightly cautionary tale for those planning on trying the tasting menu. Our son is a foodie. On his 18th birthday he asked to go to Persimmon for the tasting menu. It was pretty good! The courses were all perfectly sized, delicious and satisfying. It was very nice and the bill was not shockingly priced, though certainly not cheap. The only thing that was a little weird was, when my husband didn't finish the fish course, there was a bit of an interrogation by the server. Fast forward seven years, he wants to go again for the tasting menu for his 25th. That's this year. So, turns out it's a lot more expensive - understandable. More money doesn't imply the same or better quality. Let me tell you, the portions were almost amuse bouche sized, except for the pork belly, which was edible at best. Otherwise none of it was memorable in the least. But also, the whole table has to have it if one person is having it. Bottom line is, if my son thinks we're going back for his 30th, we are not. Oh, and also, the tasting menu is disappointing. . Service was fine though. No interrogations this time. read more
