We've had four meals from Persepshen and easily some of the best food and desserts we have ever experienced. Jason, Katherine and team do everything right. Sourced organically, made from scratch, sustainable practices and food; no shortcuts. The highest standards with zero snob appeal. You feel welcomed into someone's home when you walk into their restaurant. My absolute favorite meal was from our latest takeout order last Friday. Weeks ago I saw an instagram photo of the 90-day dry aged grass-fed beef burger and told my husband I would go back to beef for this and this only. Which I absolutely did as soon as the opportunity presented itself. I was even late to pick up our takeout order and a 20-minute drive home, but the burger and taco plate my husband ordered were completely mind-blowing. From whatever magic glaze/char was on the burger to the fresh cottage fries and almost a mole-style sauce on the tacos; thank goodness my kind husband shared a bite. Everything - incredible. The gin + juice cocktail - perfect. Then the mocha latte gelato I added on last-minute. I would go back JUST for that except there are clearly so many other things to go back for! I really wanted to like this place because I love the concept and the waiter was very nice. The drinks were good but that was about it. Grilled cauliflower just tasted weird, we felt like they tried to hard with ingredients that didn't go well together. Same with the entrees. I barely ate my chili braised pork, the flavor was so strange, everything just had too many ingredients and would have been better if it was more simple. To start. We walked in, told the hostess we would be four and she said, it'll be a while. I, of course, inquired as to how long, approximately, we would be waiting, and she said I don't know. Soooo an hour? 3 hours? Who knows? Lol. I've never been to a restaurant that's just like hey there's a wait, but that's all we're gonna tell you. Your guess is as good as mine, lady. So we sat outside because there was no wait, which I have to assume is due to worst chairs literally ever made. When we mentioned the most terrible chairs ever, they told us to adjust them and then mentioned they made themselves. Awkward. Guys, I'm literally laughing out loud writing this. The chair debacle of 2019. The food was fine, I don't eat meat and it's meat heavy with few vegan options and when I mentioned I don't eat meat or dairy, it was met with total confusion and no suggestions. Between the nonsense with the wait time (so we had no clue if we should wait for an inside table) and the terrible chairs, it wasn't worth it. I like restaurants we can go hang out, have drinks, and feel like it was an experience for the money we spend. This place, I just wanted to get out of as quick as possible. Not impressed. read more

Took my son out to dinner at Persepshen last night. Even though we had a reservation we were sat at the bar. Really? Ordered food and beers and all was good. Chef then served us directly from the kitchen/bar. Then our server disappeared. I asked a hostess to find the server so we could get another round of drinks. She said she would find the server. She never did. Half way through the dinner, the server shows up. We order more drinks. Food was good and at a good price point. We finish. I am ready to pay. You guessed it. Server disappears again. Again, I ask two staff to find our server. Finally, he comes over. I told him that he abandoned us. He said he was the only server. I have heard this very poor excuse for poor service before. Here is a solution for a lack of wait staff. Hire more staff! If you have good food, why fail on the experience? All that beautiful work by the chef couldn't surmount the bad feeling I had walking to my car in the parking lot. My perception of Persepshen; poor service, good food, I can't go back! read more

First I need to say that Katherine and Jason are two of our favorite people!! We have always been huge fans of them and their food from back when we first discovered them at the Uptown Farmers Market. We would make the trek from Oldtown Scottsdale to the Uptown market every Saturday to get our "fix". Their new restaurant is truly unique in design (most constructed by Jason)......and the food is phenomenal. Everything we've tried has been exceptional........we like the idea of the menu changing frequently.......while there are a few items that stay it gets us out of our "comfort zone" to try new food that we might not ordinarily try.......we all have been there.......going to the same restaurant and getting the same items. Going with this format is far more challenging for a restaurateur....instead of making the same thing day-in-day-out they have to work much harder at creating new exceptional dishes to serve.......but greatness and success doesn't ever come from taking the easy path. We would encourage all to try Persephen.....you will not be disappointed. read more
