I often just come in with a budget and tell them to highlight, color, or cut however they'd like and I always get something fabulous and unique right before it starts trending! I am allergic to most Aveda products with continual use due to the flowers, and they just won't stop pushing them even though I was going there constantly and they remembered me. (hair was down to my waist). i requested cascading layers with a V shape cut. she did not disappoint! overall, i like the cleanliness of the salon. they sanitize brushes & scissors after use. wrapping each of the brushes individually. they sure have a lot of staff on hand, which is good in a way but limits the work space. especially with the dividers in between each station. read more

Perry has been cutting my hair for about 4 to 5 years. Whenever I walk out of there I cannot believe how my hair looks, and I oftern get complete strangers complimenting my cut. Perry does a great job of taking my preferences and developing cuts that flatter me. What more can I ask? The massage before the shampoo is standard and more than once I've fallen asleep. Once a couple years ago, in the late afernoon of a particularly frustrating day at work, they asked if I wanted anything to drink. I said, only if you have vodka. Next thing I know, a clear drink on ice shows up...and tasted suspiciously like vodka. No that's customer service. read more

This is one of those salons that you will see the owner (Perry) at very often, because he cares so much about every client that comes in and making them feel special. You can just tell he treats his stylists well because they all enjoy what they do and they treat their clients the way he treats them. I had a wonderful experience with Jennifer today. I was unsure what I wanted to do with my hair, as it's in an in between length. I'm on the fence with growing it longer or keeping it shortish. Jennifer suggested chin length, with an undercut, which I was all for. I was definitely open to her suggestions. Along with a great consultation- she asked all the right questions and took her time, I was also treated to a quick massage. Once we were all done, I was so pleased I could have cried! My hair looked polished without looking overly "done", and it was styled in a way that I could easily mimic at home on my own. My mom and I have been faithful clients for over 10 years, and I don't think that will ever change! I am guilty of bringing too many pictures that try to show what I want in my next haircut, and they always go above and beyond and give me more than what I expected. I've had a pixie cut, asymmetrical bob, bangs, and highlights done, and I loved each and every change I made, thanks to them. Their massages before they work on your hair are AMAZING. I tend to doze off, and by the time I have to get up to walk to the sinks, I miss it already! Their tea is refreshing, and the salon itself is really hip and modern. It's quintessential Downtown. I've been to a lot of stylists over the years, and Alma at Perry Monge is the best stylist I've found! She really knows how to manage my hair type, despite the fact that her own hair is quite different from mine. I have bangs, and Alma always takes her time to find all the little pieces before she cuts them. She is a very popular stylist, so you need to book pretty far in advance, but I never have to wait long to be seen on the day of my appointment. Everyone at the salon is friendly. All the stylists seem to be very competent, so I don't think you could go wrong with whomever you choose. I love the Aveda color line for reds. I feel like my color lasts longer than with other color lines I've tried in the past. I get the sunflower conditioning treatment every time I go, which makes my hair nice and soft. They take great care to remove the color staining from my hairline, which is something I haven't always found at other salons. I'm not a huge fan of Aveda styling products, but I do like their shampoos and conditioners. Perry Monge is pricey and you have to park in the parking garage so it's a little bit of a walk (they comp your parking), but it's absolutely worth it for me! read more

A few years ago, I picked Perry Monge out of Google simply because it was an Aveda Salon. I am so grateful that I went there! Now, I really prefer to think of Perry Monge as therapy and self-care. From my first visit to my last one, I have been cared for exceptionally. The services offered are fantastic, the staff are highly trained and do excellent work, and I leave feeling beautiful, looking beautiful, and also feeling more relaxed than I probably had in the last few weeks! Here's the rundown on all the small touches that make Perry Monge such a special place. (Apologies in advance if it sounds like I'm a marketer, I really just love this place and everyone who works there!) You'll be greeted by name as soon as you step in the door and given a beverage of you choice (I always ask for an iced cappuccino- mmm). The wait before you're able to see your "hair therapist" will probably be short but look around at the products on offer anyway. Perry Monge is a full Aveda lifestyle store, and have all of the things that you know you want. (If you don't have it yet, get the Hand Relief, it's the best lotion I've ever found.) After a warm greeting from the staff, you'll taken to a small changing room to put on your robe (no leaving with itchy hairs on your shirt!). After consulting with your stylist, you'll likely experience an Aveda "Moment of Wellness" such as a chair massage using Aveda's oils or a hand treatment. (Ooooh ahhhh- this is always one of my favorite parts.) At other salons, I have had a hard time enjoying the hair wash and scalp massage because the sink and chairs are so uncomfortable. Not so at Perry Monge where the sink tilts down to you so that you can enjoy every minute of the wash. The cut itself will knock your socks off, and after a makeup touch up, you'll leave feeling and looking great. The salon itself is part of a group that prides itself on innovation, creativity, and continuing education. The team trains regularly, and it shows. I always enjoy getting to hear about the latest competition or show they've been a part of- there's usually a picture slide show running on one of the tvs, too. I'll take a minute to brag on two talented and big-hearted women who contribute greatly to my feelings of being cared for while there. Mariluz is a warm, stellar, trendsetting, and award-winning stylist. I almost don't want to say how awesome she is because I'm afraid that I'll never get another appointment. Every cut and color has been wonderful. I feel safe in her hands (and shears). I love her so much, in fact, that I recommended her to my mother, sisters, grandmother, and friends. Now she takes care of all of us. My 80 year old short-haired grandmother says that she's never in her entire life had such excellent service and no one has ever taken the time that Mariluz does with her. I've had far fewer haircuts that my grandma, but I would say the same thing. Mariluz has a sciencey brain, so I've also appreciated it when she explains how and why things (e.g. skin, products) work the way that they do. Patricia is also one of the most genuine and lovely women I've probably ever met. She gives an awesome facial and does excellent work with eyebrows. Patricia is one of those people who others are drawn to because she radiates warmth- I always enjoy whatever time I get with her. Kindness, nurturing, and taking time are hallmarks of the salon, I think. The most descriptive thing I can say is that my soul feels nurtured while I'm at Perry Monge. I leave feeling contented and at peace and my hair looks fabulous. And in this stressful world, who wouldn't want that?! It's worth the drive, guys, even if you're not downtown. Worst pedicure ever. The polish bubbled and never cured properly. Besides making a mess of the job, the stylist lathered on a lot of artificial flattery and tried to pressure me to buy a bunch of unnecessary over-priced random products. Corina is an amazing colorist I've been to many salons in Scottsdale and Downtown Phoenix (Tru, YoungBlood, Phoenix, etc.) still I have not found anyone to do better color. Marina is great also if Corina is not available. For the most part you will get a great experience. Patricia is awesome. Most the staff is amazing and understanding to your needs. Wow! All I can say is WOW! From January to May 2013, I used MariLuz (sp?) as my brow stylist. She really brought out the best in my brows, making them perfect over time. Now that I've left PHX and moved to ABQ, I sure do miss her! I wish I could take her with me. Here in PHX, my eye brows have been murdered and skin pulled off of my eye lids. This salon is EVERYTHING. I was expecting "just" an all over color appointment but what I received was so much more! I was blown away by the 5 star treatment I received here. I felt like a celebrity. Santana was my stylist. I asked her to please color my ends to match my natural root color and she absolutely nailed it without compromising the integrity of my hair. She steamed my hair while the color was processing (which really helps the cuticle open and the color to penetrate) and that was very relaxing. While she was blow drying my hair, A girl came over to give me a hand scrub and massage treatment, which was a totally unexpected yet welcome surprise. I left that salon feeling like a million dollars. I got so much more than what I paid for. I wish I had discovered this place sooner as I'm going to move in a few months but I WILL be back.
