I've been coming to the Perry Monge SalonSpa for over 25 years, and there's actually quite a story behind how I became such a loyal client! When I moved to Phoenix in 1997, I needed to find a good salon. I tried several different places and always seemed to leave disappointed. Then I had a particularly bad color experience at a salon in Chandler that left my hair slightly green and extremely damaged. I came to Perry hoping he could help fix it. It took several visits to get my hair healthy and looking normal again. Perry told me at the time that my hair had been so damaged I was lucky I hadn't lost some of it! That experience is what initially earned my trust and began a relationship with a stylist and salon that has now lasted more than 25 years. I started seeing Perry when the salon was located at the old Mercado Plaza. I followed them when they moved to the Collier Center, and then again in 2018 when they moved to their current location at CityScape. After all these years and three different locations, I'm obviously not going anywhere! The minute you walk through the door, you can tell it's an Aveda salon just by the scent in the air. I'm always greeted with a friendly smile, and one of the first things they ask is what I'd like to drink. My favorite is their iced cappuccino! The salon itself is beautiful, bright and incredibly clean. I love all of the windows and natural light. They also offer so many little extras that make getting your hair done feel like an experience rather than just an appointment. Before you even begin, you change into a smock and receive a back and scalp massage with your choice of uplifting or relaxing aromatherapy. Sometimes someone will even come around and offer a hand massage while you're having your hair done. Talk about being pampered! After all these years, Perry is still the only stylist I completely trust to cut my hair. He understands exactly how my hair naturally lays and knows how to cut it so that it works with my hair. That kind of knowledge and experience is hard to replace. Patricia and Alma have also been there for as long as I can remember, and after more than 25 years, everyone almost feels like family. There's a little full-circle story that always makes me smile. When my daughter was little, we would bring her wagon into the salon and she would sell Girl Scout cookies to the staff. Apparently, I also made the mistake of bringing her here for a haircut instead of one of those kids' salons where they sit in little cars and watch movies, because after that, this was the only salon she ever wanted to go to! Now she's 19 and comes to the same salon to see Alma for her cut and color, and she is always extremely happy with her results. There's something pretty special about watching your daughter grow up and eventually become a client at the same salon you've trusted for more than two decades. My only wish is that they were closer to me. I live in the Southeast Valley, so it's about a 30-minute drive for me to get to CityScape, but Perry is absolutely worth the drive. And if the thought of parking in downtown Phoenix makes you hesitate, don't let it. CityScape has underground parking, and the salon validates your parking ticket, which makes it very convenient. Beautiful salon, wonderful service, talented people and more than 25 years of great experiences and memories. I really wanted to give a nice review but even after getting my hair "fixed" my hair still looks horrible. I got a haircut with Jennifer (who normally does an incredible job) but messed me up. she cut more than i asked off and cut a huge chunk out of my front pieces. I went back to get it fixed by the owner Perry who tried to assist in fixing it but I later noticed more errors with the haircut. I went back for a second time to get it fixed and he argued with me about the haircut being uneven. I was hoping they were going to fix it but I just left feeling worse. The only positive is that they are processing a refund but I will not be returning. I have booked an appointment elsewhere to get it fixed. read more

I have gone here several times and always have a great experience. I use to see stylist, Sierra but unfortunately she is no longer there. My appointment had been with Sierra and I received a call prior to my appointment informing me she was gone and if I was ok with having my appointment with Jennifer. That was fine I didn't think it would be bad until I arrived and came face to face with her. After I was sat, Jennifer arrived to my chair and immediately said "so what are we doing" she was frowning and I felt she was not happy to be cutting my hair. There was NO hello, no greeting nothing. Jennifer was very unapproachable and her demeanor immediately made me uncomfortable. She told one of the younger girls to wash my hair and walked away. Wow! She was awful and I almost left the salon, I told the girl washing my hair that Jennifer had been unfriendly and she just smiled. I had my hair washed by two different girls and both were incredibly sweet. I went back to my chair to wait for Jennifer and she took her time and after some time I saw Perry and explained that Jennifer was not there and I was visibly unhappy with her approach. VERY unfriendly! I was not happy with Jennifer and expressed that to the owner. Perry he ended up cutting my hair and he is sweet but my hair cut is awful! I didn't want to write a review but my hair is choppy and the layers are horrible. My haircut was nothing I expected and I will have to wait out the growth to get it fixed. One side is shorter then the other he chopped the front up so it looks like I have a short hair cut but left my length in back! My hair is not falling right and when I walked in all I wanted was a trim of ends and trim of layers. I would cry but my husband tells me it will grow out! Perry did not charge me for the cut which was a surprise and I'm sure it's because of Jennifer's horrible attitude but I hate my hair right now and would have paid for a decent haircut! and am sad Sierra is not there. read more

I came in for a hairstyle for an event I was attending. I am from out of town, so they had me send pictures of what I wanted by text. I got help setting up my appointment at the time I needed and had a stylist call me to make sure I knew what I needed to do for my hair prior to arrival. Daniela and Sabrina were both wonderful and I loved the look they did for me. Exactly what I was hoping for! I was in Phoenix on business and decided to get a haircut and blowout. I called on Thursday afternoon and was able to get an appointment for the next day. This salon blew me away. The space is beautiful and they offer tons of services. My service included a back and shoulder massage, which was amazing. My stylist explained everything she was doing, and why. I'm so very disappointed! I'm a huge supporter of utilizing Latino owned businesses. I checked in and the lady at the front desk asked me if I wanted anything to drink. I replied yes I'd like a water..and waited 30 minutes and nothing. So I went up to the desk and asked the other girl "jasmine" if I could have a coffee and she said yes. I watched her serve other "Caucasian" customers and I continued to wait! I will not be obtaining services from this establishment ever again! I'm guessing I didn't look "classy" enough to be served. So disappointing that my own race treats their own like this. The only pleasant part of my visit was the sweet lady that checked me out and talking with Perry! Jocelyn did an amazing job on my balyage!! The process took a lot longer that usual because I box dyed my hair a few months ago (big mistake on my part lol). Jocelyn was super patient and was willing to go the extra steps to make sure I got the color and look I was going for. Update: the hair is still falling out I haven't used heat or hair dye at all since my last appointment when the damage happened as they half way blow dried it at the end. (Not that I ever used heat but maybe once every 3 months) The baldest area is where I realized after getting home late in the day there was still bleach caked on it not completely washed off I could feel it in my hair and washed it out as soon as I realized. The hair ball is only what I can catch on my counter but my hair is literally covering my apartment from the carpet to my clothes and the wood floors & while I'm out hair balls will just fall & fall even in low ponytails. They did our hair, and my makeup for our wedding, and made me feel beautiful on that special day, wow, almost 8 years ago now. They are consistent with the quality of service they provide. I always leave feeling about three feet off the ground. I love the complimentary aromatherapy massage, and the iced cappuccino is a must! While your getting your hair fixed up you get a hand massage also! The staff is great and the service is unheard of. I love it here! It's a bit pricey and I have to park underground which can be a pain but it's worth it! You get a mini massage with aromatherapy before ur shampoo. They offer water and other drinks. Alma is my stylist. I typically wouldn't name a fave because I don't want her to get all booked up but she really is the best and has been with Perry for 19 years. I am a college student at GCU, in Phoenix, and to be honest I was looking to get a more "professional" haircut like I do back home. Most of the local salons (closer to campus) only offered or specialized in your typical buzz cut or fades for men, which is not what I was looking for. I've been going to Perry Monge for the past two years while I've been out here for school and have gotten a good cut every time. They fit me in for a mani/pedi and a wax and then Patty made time to give me a much needed light therapy facial with brow and eyelash tint (why has it taken me so long to try this?!) I highly suggest completing any Vaccination screening of the general public in a more private/confidential setting rather than your reception desk. It's extremely unacceptable and against the law to request a persons medical status without their prior knowledge or consent. Best practice would be to provide a medical screening at the time of scheduling so they can answer discretely and wear proper PPE when they arrive, if they so choose. Shame. read more

I had the best experience here today. I unexpectedly had to bring my daughters with me (3&9 years old) and while I got my hair done they took such good care of my girls. They painted their nails, did their hair and gave them snacks. The staff was so kind to me and my children and I am so thankful for their generosity. I also enjoyed my time there so much, they gave me a head and neck massage, a hand massage and pampered me. I can not wait to go back! The owner himself even came over and gave my stylist Stephanie tips on what to do with my hair. I walked in for a much needed trim today after my work shift. Edith took great care of me, as she had 3 years ago when I first came here. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted and it's a comforting vibe. They offer refreshments and give you a really luxurious experience. I really liked my usual stylist but she wasn't available unfortunately so I had to go to Alma I believe. I usually get long layers and face framing and asked for just that. I was left with what looks like a mullet and very blunt layering in the back that almost reminds me of a bowl cut. I'm just really disappointed because my hair took me so long to grow out and now I've gone to another stylist who specializes in fixing cuts and even she recommended extensions, which I can't afford. So I'm just left with this awful cut and now I can't do anything about it and hate how I look. The only other way I can fix it is by chopping all of my hair off to above my shoulder where that "long" layer is all across the entire back. The "face framing" left me with short pieces across the entirety of the front and they don't blend at all. I voiced my concern about my cut and they were kind enough to issue me a full refund. But now I'm left so sad and with low confidence due to this cut. I attached the photo which I showed and then my final cut. read more

Today I took a chance and showed Jamie what I've been thinking about doing. She confidently took over from there and worked her magic with my hair! I absolutely love it. The cut and color is perfect. My BFF and I were recommended to check out this salon as we are in the market for a new one. We stopped in today, mid-day and we were pleasantly surprised. We were promptly greeted by a friendly face interested in learning about our specific needs and questions. We were then greeted by Perry who was also interested in our needs and offered us water or tea. We were handed off to two stylists to further help us as we had specific questions about hair-dye-steaming (it's a new process that makes your hair more receptive to hair dye therefore the dye "lasts longer" not including new hair growth) and razor style cutting. They sat us down in the stylist chairs, helped us understand their natural products, and were amazing in hearing us vent about our hair woes (thinning, frizzies, sweating, etc). We were told each hair appointment comes with a chair/hand massage, and they'll even touch up your makeup. Needless to say, we booked appointments two wks from now. Can't speak about the hair services, but do NOT get your nails done here. Just left. The girls were really nice, but they barely knew what they were doing. Firstly, they gave us this weird tour of the place which we didn't really want. They have almost no colors from which to choose and the color I chose was empty and they had no backup. My pedi girl had to leave mid pedicure to check on someone's hair. She spent more time fixing the polish mess ups than doing the pedi itself. Then, even though I told her my polish wasn't yet dry, she insisted it was and ushered us out. My polish was ruined by my shoes by the time I got home. My daughter had a little better mani, but trust me - go to a nail place for nails, not here. read more
