We came for the first time tonight and had a blast. It is a speakeasy located in the back of the Copper Rocket. First you check in at the hostess booth in a small room where she does her spiel and fully explains the menu. Then she will lead you inside the restaurant to your seat. We sat in a private nook in the corner which accommodated our 8 people (which the staff was fine with us adding 2 more to our 6 person reservation initially). The entire place is so well decorated and if you look around there's tons of fun details and decor. The menu is made up of a map and they provide everyone with their own personal flashlight to see it. When you order certain drinks, it triggers various special effects. At times, it felt like an adult rainforest cafe with changing sounds and lights. Our server went above and beyond to make our experience great, going all out with his special effects and overall sassiness. You get a two hour allotment and our server did a great job of updating us of how much time we had left. We will definitely be back! read more

A speakeasy in Maitland! Located in the Copper Rocket I finally got to check this place out. We had a reservation for a Friday night and it looked like you needed one. They really did a nice job with this place land the theme on every square inch of the place! We had a group and got a nice private booth in the corner. Our server was the best he made it so much fun. The drinks are very on theme and they have them divided by how much alcohol is in each. Some are even made to share! Also we learned as we went that some of the drinks come with a special show! I'll keep the surprise going and not tell you which ones! They are quite expensive (over $20) and the ones I got tasted awful...but it was more about the experience! This bar is exactly what you hope for when you walk into a tiki bar. Hidden, dark, and exotic. The moment you step inside you're transported to a beautifully designed pirate adventure. Every detail, from the decor to the lighting, creates an immersive atmosphere that leave you in awe. As someone who actively seeks out tiki bars wherever I travel just so I can experience and review them, i can say they nailed the ambiance. The cocktails were well crafted but leaned much heavier on warm baking spices than my personal preference and I tried quite a few. I tend to prefer creamier, fruit forward tiki drinks with just ahint of spice, so while they werent my favorite style, thats a matter of taste rather than quality. The person i visited with loved their drink, which reinforces my previous comments. The real surprise of the evening was the food. it was outstanding, far better than i expected from a tiki lounge. The dish was flavorful, well prepared and easily worth the visit on its own. Overall, the experience delivered exactly what a great tiki bar should, an incredible atmosphere, quality drinks, and good food. What a fun place! You enter Permanent Vacation through Cooper Rocket Pub. There is a separate door inside Cooper where you enter Permanent Vacation which is like a tiki bar. They have their own drinks and menu separate from Cooper. Staff were friendly, place was clean, drinks were tasty and the food was delicious. Be ready for some fun and to escape. Our start to the experience was not great. We got there 5 minutes early. The host said we are not open yet go outside and come back at 5:00. Very reasonable since it is a small room. a minute before 5 a couple walked in and they did not come out so we figured they must be open now. We walked back in and the host said let me help them first. I was like that is odd we were first, but no big deal. She then said you need to go back outside and I will come get you when I am done. However, once we did get inside our server was life changing. He walked us through the menu and we were excited to order our drinks. They are hand crafted and very fruit forward. Our only issue was we did tell the server that we were on a time crunch. After we finished our drink he took a long time to bring us our check so we were a little late to our next appointment. Stopped in early to see if we could get a table for a date night without a reservation and we were in luck. We were seated right away and provided the regular menu and the Halloween menu. They had some extra decor our for the season and it was a lot of fun. I had 2 drinks - Bones of Neil (reg menu) and Grimm Gathering (Halloween). Both had a great balance of flavor and they do warn you that they are spirit forward drinks. We also got the cassava fries and flatbread to snack on. They were both good with my preference being the cassava. The flatbread said it was on Naan bread, but it did not seem like Naan to me - I still liked it. Great place for a fun evening. Do note that they keep table times so it won't take up your whole night out, but know that we did not feel rushed and had plenty of times for food and drinks. I'm a tiki bar snob. What the heck does that mean? It means that when I go to a tiki bar, I'm not looking for a beach bar. If a bar's serving neon-colored candy cocktails built around Malibu and Captain Morgan, it might be a great hang--but it's not a tiki bar, it's a beach bar. Permanent Vacation is a capital-T Tiki Bar. The decor and theming is over the top, down to special effects that play when certain drinks are ordered. And the drinks--yes, they're often served in gimmicky mugs, but they aren't gimmicks. They're complex mixes with multiple spirits and housemade syrups. They use a few here that are really rare, like mamajuana (a sweet herbal mix with honey, rum and wine) and carypton (a boozier cousin of falernum). Across a few visits I've tried a fair number of drinks here; two from my last visit, the potent Powder Keg and the Pearl Diver riff Helldiver, were among my favorite. Also: the food's pretty good, too, with a lot of Polynesian riffs and occasional specials. They don't always have beignets, but I gotta say theirs were better than any I've gotten outside of New Orleans. One minor caveat: their drinks get expensive, even by current bar standards. $23 for a single cocktail, even one with as many ingredients as the Powder Keg, is steep. Permanent Vacation is a worthy visit, but like some other less interesting theme parks you may be familiar with in the area, the prices likely make it an occasional thing. read more

Great little bar hidden away inside the Copper Rocket. Strong drinks and eclectic setup complete with a tiki/hawaiian vibes, skulls, etc. it did feel like we were on an island. I had the passion fruit daiquiri which was a special, and the banana one which is on the regular menu. The bartender said it normally comes frozen but he could do it not frozen, I said that sounded good and that is the one I had and it was delicious. We also had the "where's Wilbur?" Flatbread with pulled pork, onions. My husband had the hotdog special and that was also tasty and a large hotdog. The only con is the space, seating is a bit tight and the bar stools are small. My friend commented half her bum was hanging off the seat the whole time. The bar stools also had no back support so after a while it gets uncomfortable. I am over the moon about how cool this tiki bar is! Its very small so its hard to get a reservation but its WELL worth it if you can get in. Tucked in the corner of a Steelers bar called the Copper Rocket the themed hidden door on the right hand side is both inviting and ominous. Once you step inside and are greeted by the enthusiastic hostess who walks you through the menu with tiny flashlights you step inside to what is by far the most incredible little hidden gem in all of Maitland. My best friend brought me here to celebrate my birthday today and it was such an amazing speakeasy experience. Our hostess met us past the doors and gave us little flashlights so see the menu and fool around with. Neither of us had eaten anything for hours so we ordered the steak kabobs to share and these were delicious. Two hearty kabobs filled with meats and one with peppers, onions and mushrooms with a good cup of white rice topped with sauce. My best friend went with the daiquiri which she liked, mine was the rum one which was made potent. Their happy hour lasts until 8p which is lovely. We were blasted by some pirates talking over speakers and the lights flashing when a certain drink was ordered which was cool. The idea of the tiki bar is to transport you to some dark tropical place, that is a little scary and a lot of fun - PV is that place. If you are lucky to find the entrance (it is a speakeasy), your are greeted by a a friendly guide who explains the story behind the drinks, hands you a treasure map and flashlight and sends u on your way. Inside the bar you find all sorts of oddities including shrunken heads, a tiki of Ku'u and two amazing bar tenders. I had a painkiller, which was excellent, and topped with something on fire. Wife had the fallen coconut which also was good. Bartenders were fun, explained all the drinks, and noted that all of the infusions, juices, etc were made in house (which you can see in the many fridges). I adore Permanent Vacation! I've gone multiple times and keep going back. I am a sucker for tiki bars and speakeasies in general... but a tiki bar speakeasy with a SPOOKY DEATH THEME?! WHAT, SAY LESS. I was told that Permanent Vacation's location (in the back of Copper Rocket in Maitland) is actually a converted employee lounge (which, if true, is brilliant). You first step into the hostess's room. The hostess is like a 'death travel agent.' For the first timers, they'll explain that the menu is separated into different categories of alcohol levels. If available, they'll hand out little flashlights so you can see the menu, since the room is a bit dark (which is good for seeing the LED lights, orb lamps above the bar, etc). As others mentioned, certain drinks trigger specific effects in the room (which is wildly entertaining)- so it's good to go at a busy time if you want to see the room light up in fun ways! The bartenders are always super nice and friendly here. I usually order the banana daiquiri when I visit, which is yummy and topped with a couple of torched banana slices. You *might* need a reservation, so make sure to check out the website just in case it's busy that night! I haven't tried the food yet, but I heard some dishes were really tasty. Also... Upon arrival, I wasn't sure I was in the right place since there is no sign of the bar from the streets and it's inside another bar which is super cool. I didn't have a reservation but thankfully it wasn't full enough and they let us in. They mentioned that you usually need a reservation to get in so keep that in mind. The bar has really cool vibes and it's on the dark side. The decor is super cool and the cups they use for the drinks are cute! I love how the menu is laid out from non-alcoholic to super boozy; it makes it so easy to "order your speed" depending on the night. I am a huge fan of their Pain Reliever (honestly the best I've ever had), the Saturn, the Mai Tai, and the Zombie. They are all fantastic--you really can't go wrong with any of them!
