My favorite cocktail bar in downtown at the moment. I'm normally hanging out in Winter Park or Mills for drinks but if I find myself around, I'm definitely stopping here. This is a hidden gem- it's also one of those "if you know, if you know spots" - downtown orlando secrets. This is a hidden gem in downtown Orlando! This is hands down the best kept secret in Orlando. If you are looking for a great cocktail in an amazing setting with top-tier mixologists this is the spot. The paper plane was delicious and my favorite by far. Bartender was great, super nice and easy going. Artwork was cool and even saw the artist come in and charge some artwork. We were greeted immediately by the bar tender and we got seated with our menus. They have some amazing cocktails and one of my favorite modern classics - Naked and Famous was there too. The bar tender took special care in prepping these cocktails and we enjoyed watching him make them. Cocktail making is an art and Patrick (our bar tender) was superb at it. Bauhaus has a cozy seating area at the bar which can fit up to 10 people so it's never super packed. They also have couple tables just for standing which is great too to hang out with your group. There are a couple of sitting areas where a group of 6-8 can relax, and the rest will have to stand. The drinks. Yes, the drinks here are amazing. They use fresh ingredients, top quality liquor, top quality bitters, and the mixology is second to none. These cocktails are worth whatever they want to charge, palate-wise. Of course, one drink will get you in the mood, but if you just want to get drunk, your tab will run high. But who wants to get drunk, right? This place is located in the Hanson building underneath the Hanson shoe repair bar. The Hanson building is one of the oldest building downtown Orlando. The art in the bar is so unique and beautiful. The owner let us hang out till late last night. I watched him make drinks after drinks with so much care. It's definitely not your typical social bar. I have been to other social bars downtown but I have never seen anyone take so much time with a drink. Some drinks take 10 min but trust me it's all worth it in the end. I just recently also got into the whiskey and Scotch and he gave me a little more insight into the different types of whiskey and Scotch. I told him I bought Basil Hayden and he said I was definitely on the right track. He poured me a 15 year Macallan Fine Oak Scotch. $35 dollar glass oh but so worth it. 4 stars for a solid cocktail bar. If you have been to Hanson's Shoe Repair, you have walked through the bar now known as Bauhaus to get there. While Hanson's is the better-known bar, Bauhaus is actually where I would rather get a drink. Located on Pine literally underneath Hanson's, Bauhaus is a small dark romantic little brick wall bar (so many descriptors!) with low ceilings, one long bar, and a couch near the back positioned right before the stairs (or bathrooms if you are heading that way). What the bar lacks in space it makes up for in drinks! Every time I've taken a seat at Bauhaus (usually do to waiting on a spot at Hanson's to open up for my group), a fairly knowledgeable bartender has come up to tell me about the complex drinks they have on the menu and how most of the bottles on the back wall are rare and provide a taste that isn't easy to find. On my most recent trip, the drink that the bartender suggested to me (which my wife had tried previously) was called "Women as Lovers," which is a tequila-based cocktail. Matching with the Spanish feeling of the bar, the drink was smooth and just the right amount of sweet to make for a very pleasant drink. While the prices are as high as one would expect at this type of bar, the pleasant drinks and descriptions from the bartenders (as opposed to just unknown names on a menu) about the rareness of the alcohol really makes it feel like you are getting a bang for your buck. Overall, Bauhaus provides a great atmosphere, solid bartenders, and excellent cocktails. If you are looking for a great cocktail but want to avoid the crowds at some of the other more famous cocktail bars, Bauhaus might be the place for you. read more

After having dinner on a Thursday evening decided to grab another cocktail and wound up at Bauhaus. Ended up trying a few different drinks including the Ode To Mexico, Naked N Famous, and The Smokey Robinson. Quality Since I had started the evening with mezcal, so I felt obligated to stick with that liquor for the remainder of the night. Therefore, all three of the drinks I ordered used it as the base. The first drink I ordered, the Ode To Mexico, was probably my favorite of the three. It was made with mezcal, ancho reyes chili liquor, a bit a jalapeno cane, lime, and grapefruit. The drink ended up a bit sour with some zing, and that really is how I like my drinks. The next drink I got was the Naked N Famous, which I was less enthusiastic about, mostly because of the overpowering effect of aperol. Then I ended the night with The Smokey Robinson, which combined scotch, mezcal, honey, and lemon. Now I was worried about this drink, but it ended up being very smooth and delicious. Although I did feel the scotch overpowered the mezcal a bit, the combination definitely worked. Quantity All of the drinks were good sized, and they definitely used solid pours of alcohol. Also, they occasionally offer little mixed drink shots to let you try other unique mixtures. Value Once again I was impressed at the prices, but it may just be standard in Orlando. The cocktails were around $11-$12 across the board, which was similar to the other bar I visited. Ambiance Bauhaus is located in downtown Orlando about half a block off Orange Avenue. It is a bit off the beaten path, but looking for escape from the coldish evening it was the perfect oasis. It is a very long and skinny cocktail bar, with the bar itself taking up most of the space. Dimly lit with candles and the industrial feel give it a speakeasy vibe. At the end of the bar is a set of stairs that leads to another prohibition era bar. The bar is very hipster in nature, but I appreciate that it really is only crowded with alcohol, cocktail ingredients, and books about making cocktails. They definitely place the art of drink making above all else. I did not venture up, but I believe they had additional space on the second floor with more relaxed seating. They had music quietly in the background, but it more a place for conversation over drinks and I appreciated that. Crowd It is a bit odd that you need to go through one bar to get to another, but it basically ensured that foot traffic was heavy. However, upon seeing this bar I was really uninterested in venturing to another. Both the bartender and the patrons were great, extremely friendly and talkative. Without question the friendliest crowd that I ran into during my stay. Lots of hipster vibes everywhere, but it works well with the ambiance. Service The bartender was tremendous, he made all the difference on this night. Helpful suggestions along with advice as to what we might want to try. Exactly what you want out of a bartender. Parking I personally ended up taking a car service to downtown. There did appear to be both garages and parking lots scattered throughout the area. Extra Bauhaus was a very good cocktail bar. The drink selection was very diverse and the bartender added a lot to the experience. Also, a friendly crowd can turn a standard experience into a great one. Awesome place! Been here around 4 times right after the transition with the newer management. This place used to be called, NV Bar. Cocktails are expensive, but you are paying for quality. If the place is packed, which it usually is... you could easily wait for a cocktail about 20 min. But this is not a bar for you to drink like crazy and get drunk. It's more of a "laid-back" bar, where you chill, enjoy a few cocktails over a great conversation and laughter. Joey, which is usually our bartender for the night is always very attentive, creative and patient with us. I've had the "Corpse Reviver" and "Women as Lovers". Formerly known as NV Art Bar, this long and narrow space has been going through some changes in the start of 2016. Cozy little spot among the clubs and rowdier bars, Bauhaus is serving up delicious craft cocktails. Looking forward to coming back soon and hoping they do well! Don't let the ultra hip name (borrowed from an early 1920s/30s alternative European arts movement) fool you into thinking it is totally new new. This is a rebrand of NV and is still owned/managed by the "V Group Concepts" that owns other local venues such as Hanson's Shoe Repair ("Speakeasy"), Vyce Lounge, and Vintage. Baushaus is similar to Hanson's without needing a password. I want it to be a lucky local just got this sliver of primo real estate but oh well. Still good! All ownership thoughts aside, I like what they've done with the place! If you can catch a seat at the bar you are in for a treat. I tried 5 different cocktails of various strengths and they were all made well. I am a gin gal so I enjoyed my "10 in the Swear Jar" and a personal favorite "The Corpse Reviver" which is a classic cocktail. Everyone else at the bar also seemed pleased with their beverages. Good conversations with visitors and locals alike. Only complaint, by nature of the building, is that there is not a lot of seating, table space, or general areas to lean if you can't get at the bar. This place is cozy and I love it but I also like to rest my bum on a seat while I sip. There is a small upstairs area that was not utilized as much as the main bar. I am truly awed by how good this place is. I love craft artisan style cocktails and Bauhaus can truly deliver. The bartender Chris is really good at what he does; he's a cocktail artist! We went to the bar next door at first (Bullitt) and had horrible service. Actually, no service at all, so we walked next door to Bauhaus and boy it was a blessing in disguise. When we first walked in, it had this speakeasy/rustic feel. The candle they had lit had a lovely fragrance. The decor is very simple yet contemporary. The bathrooms were clean. The service by the doorman and bartender were impeccable. Chris will ask you what you like and customize the drink for you. He uses fresh ingredients like lemon, lime, and orange peels. He had a bottle of white wine that was soaked with mushrooms, that was the most amazing thing I tasted. Other drinks he made had egg whites in it. There were so many different types of drinks. We had such an enjoyable experience, we went back the next day. It's too bad we were only in Orlando for the weekend. I don't think there are any cocktail bars in Broward that can compete! Walk a few blocks away from Church St, but avoid the everyday call of Wall St. and you'll come across a lesser known area (at least to me) of Pine St. Enter the nondescript black storefront and you will find your way into Bauhaus which is fast becoming my quintessential spot for a craft cocktail. This industrial basement-looking space has lots of exposed brick and wooden shelves containing lesser-known, small-batch booze, that add to the speak-easy feel to the place. It's an intimate space with a single bar counter with a small couch. And unlike its sister bar located on the second floor, it doesn't require the pretentiousness of a password to enjoy the creative libations that Bauhaus serves up from their expert mixologists. If you want a quick rum and coke or a Bud Light... this place isn't for you. If you appreciate creative craft cocktails that challenge your palette or want to learn about different flavors that unfamiliar liquors, bitters,and herbs offer, then you will like this place. I like the Corpse Reviver with its clean, fresh gin flavors along with the Women As Lovers if you are ordering from the menu. What keeps me coming back and what makes this place a 5 star is when you don't know what you want and the virtuoso bartenders (Joey or Chris) whip up a special concoction just for you. I asked for a gin drink with an egg white and Joey made the best tasting sloe gin fizz (balanced sweet/tart/creaminess) I've ever tasted! My friend noticed a cup with herbs and asked if it was rosemary and asked for a drink made with it. Joey obliged by serving up some kind of smoked rosemary drink that was beautifully presented and deliciously balanced. On another visit, I asked Chris what he likes to make and I was again left a winner with the best tasting, super-balanced Caipirinha (think mojito but with more sugar cane flavor). You can tell they love what they do because of their knowledge and passion in executing these delicious drinks. I've stopped by at busy nights and still had my drink at a good time, but I most enjoyed my first visit here on a quiet Thursday night where I enjoyed meaningful conversations where I got to know my bar copatrons and my bartender.
