Looking down from the top of the stairs at the tree decor and neon sign

2 Stars for a cool concept that doesn't seem to commit. I was so excited to search around Magnolia and Pine for an unmarked green door that would lead me to a hidden bar I'd read about (on Yelp and elsewhere). A new, hidden speakeasy-type bar sounded totally appealing and since I hadn't seen a ton of traditional marketing I was hoping I'd still be one of the few in 'the know' that would get to experience The Treehouse. Unfortunately, they seem to have abandoned the hard-to-find aspect that made this place so intriguing as they now have a bouncer standing outside and a chalkboard sign on the sidewalk... Even the bouncer admitted he didn't like that they let go of the concept so quickly. BUT, to be fair- being hard to find, while appealing to the curious at heart, may be off-putting for others. I get the business reason behind the change, but it makes this bar much like any other downtown except teeny tiny and very crowded. So crowded, in fact, that we didn't stay long enough to get a drink as there was no real room to stand. I will definitely give it another go on a week night versus the weekend, but hopefully they use social media and word of mouth enough to be able to go back to the mysterious unmarked door (Heck- The Pharmacy and Hanson's seem to have found the magic combination of mystery and word of mouth so there's a chance!). On the plus side- I dig the Astroturf and design!

I wanted to love it -- even after reading all the bad reviews -- because the atmosphere was absolutely spot on. Aptly named "The Treehouse", it's exactly how I would imagine a treehouse turned bar. We came pretty early in the evening (around 8pm) and there was no bouncer or sign, just an open door. Walking up the lantern-lit, wood adorned stairs, I found myself getting really excited and becoming impressed. Upstairs, you find a cute space with green astroturf and a lot of wood surfaces. It wasn't too packed at that time, but the space was definitely limited -- no bar seating, no table seating. We ended up scrunched up at the end of the bar near the door. It was pretty uncomfortable. The bartenders were nice. They got our drinks right away and the drinks were ok. My friends got the Morning Wood (which I didn't really like) and I just got the Moscow Mule (my go to drink when I don't see anything I really want). My mule was served in a mason jar, which isn't the traditional vessel; it was strange since I saw other people with the mules in the right copper mugs. Everything was also very expensive for what it was. It got pretty crowded around 9:30pm, so we left. I noticed that the bouncer had arrived by then and he was checking IDs to let people in. There was barely any standing room by that time so I was surprised they were still letting people in. I wonder what the total capacity is. All in all, I think The Treehouse has a LOT of potential. The atmosphere is pretty awesome, but it's overcrowded and not so much a speakeasy anymore. It's not really a place that you can go and comfortably hang out, especially not during the weekend. I wouldn't be adverse to coming back if a friend invited me, but I personally wouldn't choose The Treehouse as a must-hit night spot. p.s. I didn't really get the tvs with fish on them. How does that fit in with the treehouse theme?

The concept is cool, but they really should have called it "Basement's upstairs storage closet" as one of my friend's pointed out. The space is MUCH tinier then I expected, I think 10 people, including the bartender would put them at capacity. Because of the lack of space, the bar tenders have to duck under the bar to get in and out which is really awkward if you're stuck standing in front of that part. Also, they thought it would be a good idea to put up a dart board, which means you can't even use the high tops for fear of having your eye poked out. The actual bartender was nice enough, but one from basement came to hang out with and take shots with him, which led him to ignoring customers and I thought that was kinda douchey. I ordered some gin-cucumber-collins drink which was really watered down, barely had booze and cost $2 too much and as did everything on the menu.

Hidden speakeasy near Pine/Magnolia. Look for a green door. I'd give you more specifics but I don't want to ruin the fun :) Upon entering, you proceed up a steep staircase lit by lanterns into a loft - a single room with wood paneling, a faux deer head, Astroturf on the floor, a few tables and a bar. They have full liquor, with a short craft cocktail list, mostly served in mason jars. It's fun to watch the bartenders at work - one of the drinks, a smoked apple cinnamon, even involved the capture of actual smoke from a cedar plank into the jar as part of the preparation. My basil lemonade was tasty and light, and my friend's Columbian Bulldog was very unique - coffee-infused vodka, butterscotch and milk - would be a great dessert drink! I'm going with three stars instead of four because the vibe is just slightly off to me due to the hip-hop dance mixes being played and two huge TVs showing football games - but everything else is pretty chill, and the place has potential. Worth checking out.

Discover this great little place while in town on business and staying with a good friend downtown. I never would have stumbled apond it if it hasn't been for my friend Nye. The bartender was friendly and did a wonderful job at making something special for my picky taste. I loved the grass on the floor and the moose head over the bar. Everyone was super friendly and laid back. It really made my short visit wonderful. I will be sure to stop by again when I'm in town on business again.

I think I like small bars... because I can't understand why this place would have a bad review. They have creative drinks (we had and espresso pumpkin spice shot that had some sort of alcohol) and a chill ambience.

    Andrew the best bartender.

So me and the lady finally found this place after walking back and forth on pine. .not going to give away any hints. Put your thinking caps on and find it. Cozy astroturf and bar stools are the home of hand crafted drinks from some of the most down to earth bartenders I've met downtown. They have a handful of selected crafts they make and if Andrew is there he can craft an amazing Old Fashioned. Music was good seemed like an ipod yet it set the mood with upbeat and good tempo tunes. All in all, just come find it, have a drink, talk and meet some cool people. I love it for my new crafted drinks fix

I could see lots of people bringing dates here. First up, I tried a $17 Tree of Life. The drink the bartender made me was maybe 2 sips. There's a giant ice cube and a bamboo leaf or something and very little drink to drink. Not sure what to make of this because as soon as I was deciding if I liked it or not, it was gone. Wouldn't order this again. Second, I tried a $17 Adam & Eve. I wish the matcha was much stronger. There's a place in Tampa called Tori Bar that has a super duper matcha tasting cocktail. This one was much lighter. It was fine, not my favorite. Maybe I'd bring a date here sometime, but wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

We were especially impressed that servers not tending to our table placed orders/knew of orders and communicated with the waitress serving us. Most restaurants struggle to keep orders ready with the designated server, this place EXCELLED with communication. We all enjoyed a variety of different cocktails, all of which were delicious (however a bit pricy for some) and all partook in appetizers and entrees. ALL of the food was delicious and had fair portions, couldn't say enough good things. This place is a bit cramped but not horribly, the decor is cute and everything is clean :) Most importantly, to celebrate the birthday we were brought a tres leches cake that paired very nicely with the pastelitos and cafecito service! On the food side, I tried the corn ribs, which were a standout in their own way. Unique, flavorful, and an easy choice if you're a fan of corn. They worked perfectly as a shareable appetizer. Southern comfort food as a general rule just doesn't sit well with me anymore and I'm going to be very transparent and bare my soul a little bit here but here goes . . . Ever since being on GLP1's, I've developed a really complicated relationship with comfort food. Foods that are rich, buttery, creamy or fatty now hit me completely differently than they used to. It's almost like my body immediately goes into shutdown mode afterwards. I feel heavy, exhausted and like I've instantly ballooned even if the portions themselves aren't massive. For the longest time I honestly thought it was simply the richness of the food itself but now I realize it's because my digestion just can't process heavier comfort foods the same way anymore. Suddenly... it all makes sense. The food itself here is VERY good. Properly seasoned, well prepared, beautifully presented... absolutely no complaints there whatsoever. I simply have to become more mindful and strategic now with my menu selections no matter WHERE I dine. I chose the Creekstone Farm's NY Strip with the fabulous bone marrow which I KNOW is supposed to be incredibly nutrient rich and good for you... but honestly... it just about put me under afterwards. This dinner happened thanks to Ronnald M. and his sister Teris and it was our pre-opera dinner outing before seeing the fabulous Merry Widow at the Dr. Phillips Center. The Monroe is honestly a very good pre-concert restaurant choice because of both the atmosphere and location... I'm just personally learning that this new GLP1 reality means I can't approach menus the way I used to anymore.

Every…read moretime I've tried coming here, they usually only do valet parking and their parking lot is very small (maybe 8-10 spots total) everything else is street parking in the near by area. That said, parking can be hard to find. I've also been here during the day time one time and their kitchen was closed for a couple hours for serving food, so I left. Because of this, when I arrived yesterday, I immediately asked them what time their kitchen closed and their kitchen closed an hour before close. So keep that in mind as well. I sat at the bar. Service was good. Food was amazing! I got their dumplings, miso toast, risotto, and their creme brûlée. Everything was so fantastic, except the miso toast. It was good but I wouldn't get it again. The crème brûlée was so amazing! The chocolate espresso beans were 10/10. I ALMOST tipped them 50% of my bill! So as a server, thankfully I caught this. In the very back of their menu, it says an automatic 20% gratuity is applied to every check, which is kinda crazy to be honest. I was already going to tip him 30%. So it would have been 20% and 30% tip. So be very aware that they're already applying the tip to everyone's bill and it was just me, one person! I would definitely come back here but just keep in mind their kitchen isn't always open, parking can be hard to find at times, and the auto gratuity.

From drinks to tapas, to a nice conversation about similarities - it was a perfect date night for us. My fiance ordered a couple of Old Fashions and myself some margaritas. It was Thursday which is all-day HH after 4pm. We shared the famous deviled eggs and potato croquettes. Food was delicious and drinks were strong. What started as "let's get a drink," to two-hours later. This establishment is the middle of relaxing to upscale. The demographics fit the scene. Everyone was pleasant and respectful. ** Make a reservation. We did for 6pm and it was quite packed for a Thursday. Parking is limited. We were lucky to find street parking with no parking hours. Thank you, George again. Little did you know that we celebrated a milestone tonight. I quit my corporate job of five-years and today was my first week at my dream job. You didn't know, but your exceptional service tonight felt like you did. We need more of you. We can't wait to dine in next! We hope you're our server again!
