I get a kick out of all the "horrible service" reviews here, so I thought I should tell my story. I have purchased glass here many times in the past, sometimes larger orders and sometimes small. When I did my bathroom, which has mirror on all four sides, Perkins' price was one quarter any one else's, and Loren delivered it to my house himself! That's unusual, because he didn't usually do that. Once day I went in to pick up a small order and Susan was having a major meltdown over a computer problem, so I expected her to be grumpier than usual, if that's even possible. However, I very directly shouted instruction to her over the phone call she was on, which I could tell was NOT solving her problem, and solved it immediately. She was stunned and admitted that since she was mean to everyone, she didn't understand why I was helping her out like that. I just said you're welcome, and she gave me my order for free. I rarely leave review, and I waited until my 3rd time here to leave a review not wanting to jinx it. Their products and customer service are beyond excellent. I wish I had more random glass needs just to get the experience! Each time they went above and beyond - case in point - a glass cabinet door broke. Not only did they suggest I bring it in so they can make the best recommendation, they also offered to install it in the wooden door for no charge. They promised 3 days, but it was ready the next morning for pick up. And the quality is amazing - the wooden cabinet door was very fragile to start with and somehow they not only got it back to me with no defects, they actually got it back in stronger form. read more

Oh. My. We hired Perkins to replace a broken mirror in one of our salons. The price was very affordable and they are a local fam owned biz so that's great, right?! They show up! On time!! Yay. Then ..... they remove the broken mirror without a drop cloth or any sort of protective cover to protect any of the surroundings which include a marble countertop, chair, floor etc. You know where this is going right? The mirror shatters. There is broken glass everywhere. It leaves deep scuffs in the floor and very severe scratches and divots in the marble slab counter directly below where the mirror was removed. After following up with Perkins they said "Well, I guess thats what we have insurance for". Like thats it. Gave me the ins company info and continued to blow me off. Wow. EVERY TIME I have walked into this location I have gotten exactly what I have asked for. The first time I needed a shelf replacement for my china cabinet The front desk staff helped me pick out what was needed and it was ready same day. The price was better than I expected and the service was super quick. Today I had my husband stop by (unaware they are operating during COVID by appointments) to get a piece of glass for a very large portrait. Dennis helped my husband without an appointment and had him out of there with the glass replacement in MINUTES!!! I ordered a 20" x30" quarter thick mirror for my bathroom and it is just beyond my expectation! They did a great job custom cut the mirror and the edges are all smoothed out nicely. The mirror itself is heavy which is not el cheapo stuff. I ordered it through emailing on Tuesday and ready to pick up on Friday! It's very clear and organized. Also she told me it would costs $21 but turns out it is $15 including 4 metal holders and screws! What a deal. I don't think you can find such good quality mirror else where with this price! This is one of those literal mom and pop shops that folks morn the loss of when they are gone, even though the same person is a die hard big box shopper. Perkins does great work, they are fast, I haven't found a custom job that they were not able to do, and their prices are some of the best you will find in Seattle. If you need residential or cabinet glass shop here. Same goes for mirrors. The mirrors in my bathrooms, both weird 1928 house sizes, are from Perkins. Be warned though that parking at their place sucks, but it is not their fault. The city has conspired against them with the restripof Broadway, the bike lane and trolly tracks. Also, they do not take cards of ANY sort. Take cash or bring a checkbook. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! We should have turned around from the beginning. Perkins himself was super rude and passive aggressive from the start. All we were asking for was a quote and he threw our mirror on the ground and started working on it. After asking him for a quote at least 10x he said come get it in three days. Three days later we come pick up the mirror and the frame is completely scratched. When confronted, his response was "I tried to buff it out." Horrible costumer service, horrible craftsmanship, the glass doesn't even fit the frame, he doesn't care about your belongings. Perkins Glass service is amazing. They are professional, efficient and still half the price of any other glass company. We had vandalism breakage during stormy weather with a very vulnerable corner office window. Called at 8 AM, they drove from downtown to Northgate in a downpour for measurements, boarded up the window, drove back and forth and had perfect glass replacement installed by 1 PM all during Friday traffic. I appreciate how they conduct their business, they are direct, to the point and they get the job done. They have provided this designer excellent results for 40 years. Awful! DO NOT RECOMMEND. I went in to get a quote on a broken mirror where I wanted the glass fixed. Mr. Perkins immediately takes apart my mirror without asking or giving me a quote. He doesn't take my name or phone number down. He just said I can come back. He said I needed a beveled mirror that they didn't carry and he was just gonna use what they had. I asked for them to order one for me with a quote and they said they would call me back. I never heard back from them for 3 days. When I called and asked about the quote, they just said my mirror was fixed and I could pick it up. They never filled out any paperwork for me so they didn't even know what I was talking about when I came in to pick it up. When they did find my mirror, it was completely scratched around the frame and the glass was not the one I had asked for. I wish I could give 0 stars for this review. read more

Family business and you'll often hear "Dad!" when referring to the patriarch who does most/all the glass work. Their prices are great and the work is excellent and very prompt. We've repaired or added glass tops to many pieces of furniture, fixed mirrors, windows, etc. it's an inexpensive and smart way to enhance and protect nice furniture. They/he can cut standard size or custom if you bring a tracing/form to follow (like scalloped edge of a table top). We felt compelled to add our review since some were less flattering & must have odd expectations. There are probably some people who prefer or are more accustomed to an online/impersonal shopping experience. Perkins is a business and they'll tell you they don't do residential, some people don't realize that many business only work with tradesmen and contractors. Cap Hill and the surrounding neighborhood is fortunate that Mr. Perkins will take walkin business. Most of these business have been priced out and relocated to SoDo or Kent. As one of the few small businesses left in the neighborhood we should be grateful of the time left and relish the character of the business. It's refreshing to patronize something other than a big box shop with self checkout and online click and pickup. And if your lucky you might even watch Mr. Perkins perform magic; apparently he can do math and will total your invoice without a calculator-wow. Don't see that very often! read more

This is a classic OLD SCHOOL SEATTLE business. They are cranky at times, but boy do they know glass and they are the best deal in town. Amazing, cool, legit, old school place. My favorite mirror from the bathroom got broken and I called a few places in Ballard to find out a rough cost. I wanted to know if it was worth it to replace the piece of mirror or just buy a whole new mirror. I had estimates of around $100-130 for the work. I called Perkins and they said $35 and $5 to install it in the old wooden frame. I dropped it off, and in an hour they had it all done. Oval piece cut perfectly and all installed. Didn't even charge me to install it! I was helped by a grandson and the grandfather. Both were kind, respectful and great to deal with. I really wish there were more old-school shops like this around. I will never buy glass or mirror anywhere else! read more

I've been doing business with Perkins for almost 30 years. Perkins is sort of like "The Soup Nazi" on Seinfeld. They have the best glass prices in town, often half the price of others, but they have rules you must follow when dealing with them. The daughter on the phone sets the tone and is a bit scary, the "Old Man" isn't around much any more but he is the most human of them all but the daughter is VERY protective and doesn't want him over-working. At least one of the brothers is ok; the other more like the sister; mono-tone and to the point. They don't install home windows, only commercial windows, but will cut glass, or make sealed units. They also don't take CCs, just cash or check. When phoning be prepared with sizes and strength of glass and expect long detailed mono-tone answers. Again, their prices can't be beat so learn to live with their ways. Check out all the family history on the walls, from seaplanes in Alaska to the hydro-racing granddaughter. The lady who took my call was very terse / quick, but she was also very kind and polite. There are reviews on here saying they are grumpy... I think its just that they are old-school and quite busy! My original review of 2-stars is below... upon seeing my Yelp review, Perkins canceled my order. So I thought I should include that in this review and NOT recommend this company. The 87-year-old grandfather was grumpy and gruff in my phone conversations, but nice in person when measuring the window. He said he'd send me the estimate after I cut him a down payment check on the spot. But I was never sent an estimate, thus delaying my entire insurance payment process. He also told me the security glass I ordered would be in-house within 5 business days, and after a vindictive, angry call from the grandfather this morning, I was informed the glass had not even gone into production (6 business days later) -- and they were canceling my order because I complained on Yelp. Therefore, I would not recommend this place. It's been bad customer service, a waste of my time, and bad overall for my business. There is no way I would have done this to a client. Thanks for reading... original review below. It's a family-run business and they'll give you a fair price. From that perspective, they really are the 'real deal'. I'm using them now and did last year, too... part of the reason I did business with them again. This time around, it's been problematic and slow. I had a break-in at my business and it was hard to schedule someone to come and give me an estimate. The 87-year-old grandfather did the estimate over a week ago and I paid for 50% of the work upfront as soon as he estimated. I was told the glass would be ordered right away and be delivered to them within 5 business days. 5 business days later it has not been, there's still plywood over my retail floor (which is intermittently leaking in the rain) and I have yet to receive an official estimate in writing... which my insurance company has been asking for and I was promised. They also seemed bewildered to try and give me an electronic copy of the receipt to speed things. I likely won't be using them again. My clients expect a certain level of customer service, follow through -- and speed -- from me, and I expect the same from my vendors. read more

Supposedly the soup was so good that people were willing to put up with the attitude of the chef? Well, Perkins glass is kind of like that. The owner has impeccable craftsmanship and reasonable price. However, his wife(?) looks and acts like she really, really hates her job. She was not afraid to yell at her customers either on the phone or in their faces. When I was there one time dealing with a very nice and friendly young lady, I over heard her yelling at someone on the phone, "WE ARE NOT NORDSTROM! YOU NEED THE RECEIPT!!!" A few days later, I called to make another order and was put on hold for 15 minutes before I had to hang up and go to work. I would still go back to do business with them but I might have to wait to talk to the young lady instead. read more

They're kind of the only game in town for one-off, smaller glass orders. I use them for framing projects. If you're ordering for framing, be sure to ask for the edges to be sanded down, otherwise you'll slice up your fingers while cleaning the glass for your project. I called re: the creation of a small, glass top to cover an existing table. I brought in a template on Saturday at noon and was told that my tabletop would be available at 2:30 pm, the same day. I arrived, picked up my tabletop for much less than I thought it should have been worth. Offered to pay more, which was rejected. I showed up at the Perkins Glass shop in prerson to discuss my house project, The gentleman who was helping me was very unfriendly, every question I asked him, he responded with rolling eyes and was looking at me like I was an idiot for even asking it. He was not even trying to help me find any solutions or discuss other options to solve my problem. This is not a complicated project. I felt very unwelcomed.
