Your classic beach town candy shop, Perkins Cove Candies was a delight. Although we noticed multiple shops throughout the area, we visited the one IN Perkins Cove. Classic candy shop feel with a wide selection of saltwater taffy, chocolates and fudge which they make locally. All other candies are not local, which kind of bummed me out - especially when I thought the gummy and sour lobsters were made locally! We were glad to support and shop small with purchasing several chocolate covered Oreos, Buttercrunch, Chocolate Potato Chips, and some nostalgic gum for the kids. The staff was not particularly welcoming, but was helpful as needed. Another customer actually did a better job recommending some chocolates to us. Cute spot overall! read more

Excellent chocolates! We got the potato chip bark, tried it and immediately went back in and bought more to take back to CA with us. Great quality chocolate and a good variety. We also go peanut clusters, raisin clusters and chocolate covered graham crackers and they were all delicious. Highly recommend this adorable shop. read more

Great setting in Perkins Cove! Cute shop and looks like nice variety Of chocolates. The Salt Water Taffy was ok, nothing special. Definitely have had better, taffy was very small and lacked flavor. Most disappointing was when I was on line to pay. The cashier (older gentleman, not a kid looked more like a possible owner) knowingly charged a customer more than the price on the scale. He then gave me this big smile when adding my purchases for a total. No excuse, no mistake on his part!!! He knew he was overcharging the customer. I almost handed him the basket with my selections and left. So sorry I didn't! Thought twice about posting this review but read a previous review where a customer saw another customer being overcharged. Fudge was solid. Licorice wheels were good. Service was okay. I miss the old store from decades ago. But, if they hired some more enthusiastic, attentive employees I think it would go a long way. read more

The candy selection was great, but the clerk tried to short-change an 11-yr old girl by $10!! But got caught. I would have passed it off as an accident, except he was pretty calm about it, and the Lobster Shack restaurant doesn't give an itemized bill and tried to overcharge my bill by $30!!! I photographed the menu and made him cancel the overcharge and correct the bill. I Will double check credit card statement when it comes in. I hope not, but I'm guessing ripping off tourists is a common practice in some Perkins Cover shops and restaurants. read more

Perkins Cove Candies has a couple things going for it: they serve sugar in a beautiful location. Perkins Cove Candies has a few things they need to remedy. They only accept cash (but have an ATM inside that'll undoubtedly charge you a premium fee for using it) is number one. It's the year 2015 and there's a place in a tourist town that doesn't accept credit cards? WHAT? The service is also been the same sultry workers for years now. Come on, you're making a killing on overpriced candy in a beautiful place. Is life that bad? Smile. That said their own brand candy they offer is pretty good, but not amazing. They also have the same candy you can find in any Target but at double the cost. A fun place to bring your kids once but that's about it. read more

Pretty expensive little place, with a great view looking out over the ocean. Pretty decent variety of candies, chocolate, house-made marshmallows, you know, the usual candy store-type stuff. I had the pleasure of trying the dark chocolate peppermint patties and the dark chocolate peanut butter cups. Both were outrageously good. Gripe: SUPER pricey and cash only. The staff are very friendly and it's great for grabbing something small or large as they have bags you can fill with a range of items including many flavors of fudge and saltwater taffy, as well as tons of chocolate covered items and truffles. I had the penuche fudge with walnuts - a New England tradition that reminds me a bit of a maple flavor. I lied. I said I would give 5 stars for every review regarding my Maine trip, but this one will only get 4, because the girls at the counter were gossipy and rude, to tell you the truth. OTHERWISE, this is a peek into heaven as far as candy goes. There's all kinds of fudge, maple, and your typical fruity candy (like peach rings). What attracted me the most was the wall of barrels of salt water taffy. I've never seen so many flavors in such quantity before. Blueberry, strawberry, orange sorbet, green apple, maple, chocolate, grape and even licorice! I created my own half pound bag of the more fruit flavored ones, and it cost less than $5. Still a really solid candy store, with great selections, fantastic fudge, and the best salt water taffy in Maine. But what happened to the nickel and penny candy? It's gotten expensive. Okay, maybe paying a quarter for a thing of NECCO wafers isn't expensive, but back when i was 10, it was a nickel, and the candy buttons were a quarter. Now its all hiked in price. A holiday tradition is to buy Cashew Turtles for my partner. (I always get some pecan ones for me too.) These are the by far the best turtles I've found in New England. You get a generous portion of nuts, caramel, and chocolate. All of the ingredients are top quality and most importantly they are scrumptious! I've been frequenting this fabulous little candy shop by the sea since I was a wee one. Back then, many of the candies actually cost one cent--it was truly penny candy. Alas. Over the years, the prices have naturally crept up. I was there this week to fuel up on sugar before a walk on the Marginal Way and giddily paid 15 cents for a tiny sleeve of Sixlets. They make a great/gooey/chewy saltwater taffy in a large variety of flavors. Blueberry is my fave. Also, they have many chocolate-covered things, such as gummy bears and graham crackers. (Both of those were fantastic!) Yes and.. they have truffles.. and peanut butter cups.. and tons of other things. All you need to do is come in, grab a plastic sand pail and fill it up to your heart's content. Love it! read more

New England candy stores, by the ocean, have a very special appeal all to themselves. Everything tastes, looks and feels SO much better than buying it from your local grocery store. As a kid, I would get a dollar while on vacation - I would run to the local penny candy store and fill that bag to the brim! Those were the days! You can still do this in Ogunquit at Perkins Cove Candies! Ogunquit is a gorgeous seaside town. Make it a spot to visit this summer - Just an hour and half north of Boston. read more

It has a wide variety of candy, many loved older brands, or harder-to-find candy. I went with my daughter recently and quite enjoyed it. They had fun candy, and is very kid friendly. If you are buying by the pound, it can be more expensive, but overall it is very affordable. The candy is delicious, and the chocolates are delicious. They had a very large assortment of taffies and chocolate, and even cream-filled varieties. Service was absolutely amazing, very patient and understanding. It had a wonderful view of the ocean and is a wonderful candy store. It doesn't have the widest assortment of candies, but all the best classics, like peppermint patties and moos Carmel cremes. The little kids we brought in here were literally as excited as kids in a candy store can get. There was lots of variety when we went and the kids had a blast. The staff that helped us was very friendly and cracked jokes with us. We must have had the "A" crew when we went. Cons: *Very pricey. Make sure you have cash. *Narrow spaces. LOVE this place. The minute you walk in, the smell of candy just hits you and you have a giant smile on your face. There is your basic usual candies you can get anywhere but also so many unique and fun things. When I was younger, I used to love grabbing a bucket from the wooden lobster when I walked in and then filling it to the brim and spending all my vacation money on candy, basically. As an adult, I'm a little more hesitant but I always make sure to pick up some giant peanut butter cups and chocolate covered oreos (white chocolate and regular!). I am a huge peanut butter and chocolate lover so the giant PB cup is amazing in every way. I find this place more laid back and cheaper than the other candy store in the center of town and frankly, more fun! read more

The chocolate and salt water taffy are good. Though I feel the taffy at the harbor shop in town is better. This taffy tends to stick to the wrapper and you end up losing a quarter of what you paid for. I think the pick and mix candy, which any child is drawn to, is expensive at 20 cents each. read more

Simply the best chocolates BY FAR around Southern Maine and priced better than most fine chocolatiers I have been to elsewhere as well.    Buttercrunch, turtles, sea salt caramels, bark, fudge, and their homemade salt water taffy top my list for must try but frankly there is something for everyone to enjoy.  All the candies are incredibly fresh. There is no comparison of these chocolates to store brands that makes any sense, just like there is no comparison between boxed wine and fine wine!  One eats grocery store candy because it is convenient, but one savors and enjoys the mouth-watering bliss of Perkins Cove Candies making it well worth the price!   As a customer, I don't mind the cash only aspect that others griped about.  This is a busy store and cash transactions are much faster, and the line, even if long, moves quickly as a result.  I like being able to buy my candies and get on with enjoying the scenic location that Perkins Cove, Ogunquit has to offer.     Also, on my way home from vacation, I often stop at the Wells Route 1 store to pick up candies as gifts for family and friends back home.  Credit cards are accepted at this location making it the perfect last stop to buy gifts, and to get some chocolates for the ride home too! read more

Unfortunately, the woman working at the check out counter was extremely rude to my Wife, right in front of my kids, for a very forgivable offense (thinking the jars on the wall were candy for sale).
