I was surprised to find the shop went around the check out counter. Here I found a small area of discounted items & another counter with some candy around the area. It's a very small candy store nothing like the one on Route 1 Kittery Outlets. In this area I found the "treasure chest." I over heard a male customer asking the lady @ the counter...who I actually think was the owner, what you won if you got the treasure & she said money to spend in the store. There was a bunch of other nicknacks in this store too. I tried to take lots of photos. I will have to take pictures of my items I bought & post them later. This store is quite large which might put your senses into overload, but pace yourself and you will survive the shopping experience. You have various opportunities to purchase prepackaged items as well as doing a self serve of bags and boxes that are sure to delight anyone! The bonus on this location is towards the back is a clearance section. These bags are prepackaged and come with hefty discounts. The company was initially started as a homemade products stall at a local farmers market. Working from a small folding table and calling themselves "Stonewall Kitchen", the stall was successful, selling all stock. The business eventually began producing vinegars, oils, pesto, jams and baked goods. The operation then branched out into selling wholesale, and by 1993 they were approached by Crate & Barrel to produce 2,500 jars of Orange Cranberry Marmalade. To increase production capacity, Stonewall Kitchen purchased and renovated an 18th-century barn in Kittery, Maine. By 2000, they moved to a larger property in nearby York. A visitors area was added to this facility in 2003. As of 2022, Stonewall Kitchen is now owned by TA Associates. The brand is now available in 42 countries and the York facility receives over 500,000 visitors annually. My extended family and I visited the Stonewall Kitchen Company Store & Café this past summer while we were vacationing in York. The location is just gorgeous and features every Stonewall Kitchen product imaginable in the store. We loaded up on quite a few of our favorite products and even discovered some new ones; lots of free samples too! We also decided to stay for lunch in the café, which features delicious menu items made with Stonewall Kitchen products. I ordered the "Lobster Mac & Cheese" (Montebello organic torchiette pasta, fresh local lobster meat, mascarpone, fontina, asiago, cheddar, served w/ mixed greens & classic Italian dressing), my wife had the "Lobster BLT" (fresh local lobster meat, cherrywood-smoked bacon, celery, green leaf lettuce, vine-ripened tomatoes, housemade basil mayonnaise, buttered brioche, served w/ dill pickle spear & housemade Maine potato chips), our older son had the "Turkey Club" (sliced roasted turkey breast, cherrywood-smoked bacon, garlic herb cheese spread, cucumbers, green leaf lettuce, vine-ripened tomatoes, red pepper jelly, sliced sourdough bread), and our younger son had the "Mac & Cheese" (Montebello organic torchiette pasta, mascarpone, fontina, asiago, cheddar). They had advertised a 'blue-vanilla' shaved ice treat. It wasn't vanilla at all, not even faintly. Not even vaguely. It was blue raspberry. Disappointed we threw the cup away not even twenty feet from the shop, and on the drive home tried some of the assorted other items that were purchased. All of the chocolates were bland and stale. Each and every one. Poor flavor, poor quality. I had been originally very pleased to find a pack of Clove gum... a rare find, and one of my favorites. It was also so stale and old that when I put it in my mouth, the stick of gum cracked rather than folded in any way and took perhaps a good three minutes of chewing before it felt like anything that resembled what chewing gum is meant to be. I would encourage anyone who is eager to get quality sweets to look elsewhere.
