Was staying at a nearby hotel and walked by and decide to go in. They have homemade taffy and it's delicious. It's ridiculously expensive at $20 per pound so I spent over $30 on taffy but it was great. The blueberry, watermelon, and peanut butter were my favorites. Blue raspberry (which is actually pink colored) was also good. I wish the pieces of taffy were a little bit bigger because they're quite small compared to the wrapping so a good amount of the $30 that I spent went toward the weight of the wax paper wrapping but the taffy is great. It's nice to have real homemade taffy and not that Taffy Town stuff that every other candy store buys when it all comes shipped from the same factory in Utah. Service was friendly. They should honestly be handing out samples of the taffy. They asked me if I wanted to try fudge which was alright but on the sweeter side but it's the taffy that was great. At first I only bought a small bag with a few pieces in it just to make sure I liked it, and I loved it. Taffy is soft and flavorful and real. read more

This a Cute candy shop located on the main stretch of downtown portland. There is lots to choose from, whatever candy style you are on to it's here. If you're in the mood for sweet candy, definitely worth stopping in. Be aware tho they are a bit pricey. I was looking for some maine made ites to bring home as gift and I bought locally made blue berry maple jam and a variety of locally made fudge and had small bag of candy and came in at close to $50 and I barely bought anything. Just keep that in mind. Other than the prices, its neat and well stocked. The staff was very nice and even cut the fudge in smaller pieces for me when I asked even tho theyre not supposed to. read more

Popped in on a whim and was very pleased to find a selection of locally made La Nef chocolates at the check out (which were delicious by the way). They also had a truly impressive selection of chocolate confections, fudge, gummy candies, jelly bellies, salt water taffy and more. If you have a sweet tooth then this is a must stop. read more

Old Port Candy is one of the many shops you'll find in the Old Port section of Portland. I was in the area window shopping and soaking in the aesthetics when I found myself in front of the entrance. I had nothing to lose by taking a peek in, so off I went. The store is pretty typical of candy shops one finds in touristy areas - especially in the Northeast. They have a selection of fudge, taffy, as well as chocolate confections behind the main display case. There's also commercially available candy scattered throughout the store and a few souvenirs. I picked up some chocolate-covered blueberries, because Maine, and a few of the chocolate confections behind the counter. One that stood out to me in particular was a Needham which was described as a potato-coconut confection covered in chocolate. It tasted fine - I didn't get much potato but did get a decent amount of coconut flavor. Service was friendly, and overall Old Port Candy delivered the goods - worth a stop in during your Portland explorations. read more

We stumbled upon this small but wonderful candy store while strolling the streets of Portland. This place has sweet confections of all kinds! There is lots of fudge, licorice, retro candy bars and treats, along with Needham's, and chocolate covered cherries and other candies on display from Haven's chocolates. Both the Needams and chocolate covered cherries were delectable. The staff was most pleasant and informative. A great place to visit and satisfy your sweet tooth. read more

If you're a candy enthusiast, Old Port Candy has it all-- classics like Twizzlers and gummies to gourmet chocolates (the faux Reese's are my favorites) and fudge. Upon walking in, you're surrounded by a world of bright colors and walls of candy, making the interior very nostalgic. The quality of the candy and chocolates is unmatched. They have an incredibly wide selection and friendly staff. I can't say that it's affordable, but you get what you pay for. Their location on Fore Street makes it popular for locals and tourists alike. read more

Great classic candy shop in Portland! There are tons of options for chocolates, fudge, and candy. I bought assorted licorice from the bulk candy section, a piece of taffy, and a quarter pound of the chocolate-maple-peanut butter fudge. I didn't like the flavor of the taffy at all, but oh well. The licorice and the fudge were both great. read more

Small candy store across the street from our hotel. The two associates working offered a warm hello. There's some retro candy on the shelves. Snacks such as popcorn and pretzels, with different flavors. And fudge! You can sample before buying. read more

IF you're looking for a great selection of gummy candy by the pound, this is your place. I especially love the spicy mangos. Delish!

I enjoy good old times candy stores since they are becoming fewer in number these last few years. Old Port Candy has a nice selection of made in Maine, classic candies, fudge, and some bulk gummy and jelly bean items. Made a great stop to buy gifts for family and friends. Also, nothing beats a dark chocolate turtle from from the class case. Will definitely come back. Thanks for the sweets read more

Super nice staff. Really fantastic collection of both old and new wrapped candies. They even had the old wax soda bottle candy packs AND wax mustaches (am I obsessed with wax??). A huge collection of jelly belly jellybeans and some specific local confections like chocolate covered blueberries! At the counter they also have an extensive array of locally made chocolates/truffles AND an epic fudge selection! The check in offer on Yelp for a free piece of fudge is still being honored with a smile. I selected a piece of penuche walnut. Yum! read more

My kids decided that the donuts we got nearby were not enough to satisfy their sweet tooth and dragged me into this place. I will be honest, I do not generally like sweets.... just doesn't do much for me. So, we go into this place and my kids are, well, like kids in a candy store ... grabbing all kinds of sweets. Meanwhile I am milling around the front waiting for them and then it happened... ZOTZ!!! Holy crap!!! Flashback to my childhood!!! I used to live for these damn things. If you have never tried these, you must immediately!! It seems like an innocuous little candy, but after awhile the sweet candy shell gives way to a sour, frothy explosion reminiscent of the science fair experiment you did in elementary school where you replicated a volcano with baking soda and vinegar. The sweet and sour foam in your mouth is fantastic. This place also has Pop Rocks which are another wonderful candy from my youth. I remember my friends and I mixing Pop Rocks and soda pop in our mouths because we heard that Mikey from the Life cereal commercials died trying the same stunt. Needless to say, we lived. Thank you to this store for taking me back to some childhood memories!!! read more

This place is so cool! Convenient, too. Perfect place to walk to when there's a wait for a table, or if you're just feeling like you want candy! There are the classic options; fudge, pixie stixs, gummy's, etc. there are also some cool bizarre candies that I've never tried, but hope to soon! If you haven't been I strongly suggest you go! Hands down the best fudge we have had in our three week vacation through five New England states. We had the penuche and milk chocolate. The balance of flavor and sweet was perfect! Came by Old Port Candy Co. to buy some candy and gifts for friends back home. They have an awesome assortment of gummies, chocolate bars, maple sugar candies, fudge and chocolate covered turtles. You can get them with cashews, walnuts, peanuts, almonds, dark and milk chocolate. I bought one for myself, and I forgot all about it until today when I checked my bag. (one week later...) and the dark chocolate covered almond caramel turtle was just as delicious as if I had just bought it yesterday. Still fresh! I'd definitely come back again if I was visiting Portland. Next time I'll have to buy more turtles. read more

The amazing sense of nostalgia I get is only part of why I completely, totally, unequivocally, LOVE Old Port Candy Company. From the sound of the screen door opening when you walk in to the candy cigarettes and dot candy, this place has everything I loved about my favorite candy store when I was a kid. BUT, don't let that mislead you into thinking it's not a 100% up-to-date shop that has all of your modern sweets needs covered. Because it does. It does in spades. There's bins and bins of bulk candy, all color-coded so understanding the pricing is easy as...fudge. There's fudge too. It's all made there and it's eye-rollingly good. I tried some chocolate-peanutbutter-fluff recently that forced an, "Oh my god" from my lips. They have your full range of jelly beans, separated by flavor and available in bulk of course, your Maine-based sweets, your chocolates, a great assortment of gift bags and boxes and baskets, and even some hand-dipped chocolate covered bacon. Yup, they have that. Whether you want a blast from the past, or just pretty much any candy or sweet you can think of, Old Port Candy Company is the place. read more

If you happen to be exploring Old Port in Portland, you need to stop in this cute little candy store. They have all the usuals a candy store should have. Giant bins of candy you can scoop into bags yourself and are sold by the pound. There are jelly bean bins, and chocolate bins, and the usual popular candy bins. They have a shelf of novelty candies and gifty type of candies. The unique thing about this place is that they make their own fudge. They had slabs of fudge I'd never seen before. They had a peanut butter and marshmallow fudge, orange cream fudge, lemon meringue fudge, and of course the basics chocolate, maple, and peanut butter. I had to resist buying it all! I ended up purchasing some malted milk balls, of which they have quite a selection. They have raspberry, mint, peanut butter (inside and out), blueberry, white chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, expresso, and regular malted milk balls. I'd never seen so many variations of malted milk balls in my life. GO! read more

I have the worlds biggest sweet tooth. This place is evil!! I went in to get some goodies before a matinee over at the Nickelodeon. They were out of fried egg gummies, but one of the gals working assured me green frogs have the same peachy taste! I had been in here last summer and got some gummies, chocolates and jelly beans, but I had never tried the fudge. Oh the fudge. This is not the fudge we know on the jersey shore. This is heavenly buttery melts in your fingers and mouth fudge. I first tried maple walnut, which is good, a little too sweet, but very good. However, the fluffernutter! Holy bat smokes robin! This stuff tastes like well a fluffernutter minus the bread. It was so good I almost wanted to leave the movie ( jeff who lives at home, was not that great sorry jason segel still love ya) and go get more. scratch that buy what was left! Well definitely grab the yelp deal that is going on, and first check-in on yelp gets a free piece of fudge not to mention four square mayor gets a free 1/2 pound!!! Score! The four square check-in folk seem to wax on about the birthday cake fudge....hmm next time? read more

There was a great selection of candy here and they did a wonderful job with social distancing. The candies are sold individually (vs by the pound) so it felt like they were a little on the pricey side but it was hard to gauge. We got about 8 pieces of chocolate for $15. Everything was great and the peanut butter fudge was really creamy and delicious. read more

First, a check in offer where I get a honking piece of free fudge makes me super happy... but with that said, OPCC is pretty awesome! They've got that bulk candy, that all the kiddos crave, but also, truffles, dark chocolate, caramels, and fancy locally created sweet goodness. As far as candy shops go, this one is smaller, but packs quite the punch. They also go the extra mile to box and bag up your fancy little tidbits with ribbons and bows. A definite must if you are on Fore Street with the family! read more

Charming candy shop on Fore. They advertise "nostalgic candy" but their selection was not varied at all. They hardly had a collection of old school candy. I. Freaking. LOVE THIS PLACE. I try to pop in every time I'm in the Old Port walking around. They've got it all. Tons of Jelly Belly jellybeans, some old timey candy (clove gum, scented mints, candy buttons, Mallo Cups), container upon container of bulk candy (chocolates and gummis galore), and some AMAZING fudge (and a whole ton of other chocolatey goodies, including chocolate covered potato chips, chocolate covered bacon, and chocolate covered whoopie pies). Malted milk balls in every conceivable flavor? Don't mind if I do, thanks. I filled my bag with peanut butter, mint, vanilla, maple, and more. You pay by weight, so you can mix and match to your heart's content. My sister discovered these amazing, soft cherry chews. Kind of like the Versace of the Twizzler candy-family. We were addicted. Candy cigarettes? Check. Chocolate covered bacon strips? Check. Gummy fried eggs? Check. Do I have your attention yet? Fireballs, candy lipstick, Bottle Caps, Clark Bars, Clove Gum, Nik L Lips Wax Bottles, Neopolotan Coconut Bars, Pop Rocks, Razzles, root beer barrels, French pastilles, dozens and dozens of Jelly Belly flavors, sugared grapefruit wedges, cola flavored gummy bottles, and chocolate covered whoopie pies topped with rainbow sprinkles. How about now? Whether you're looking for nostalgic novelties, traditional truffles, or fabulous fudge THIS is the destination in Portland to find them. Even if you're not entirely sure you want to buy anything, you should definitely at least pop in and look around, because I'm positive you'll find something here you didn't know you: a) missed, b) needed, or c) craved. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of their chocolates - I find them bland (especially the chocolate covered pretzels) and unnecessarily expensive (like expensive, expensive; somewhere between "ouch" and "totally hemorraghing money"). So, if you're gonna spend your money here, do it on the fudge. DO IT. ON THE. FUDGE. (Or the chocolate covered blueberries or the chocolate covered espresso beans). It's creamy, flavorful, and totally worth every bite (both financially and physically: "a moment on the lips forever on the hips" completely apply to these, but who cares when your mouth is getting treated oh-so-well?). They have extraordinary options to choose from, too. Like "Birthday Cake", "Moxie Float", and even "Chocolate Mango" (which is deceivingly delicious). Don't be afraid to ask for samples - the folks who work here are more than willing to help you figured out exactly what it is you want. read more

This is a cute little candy store. They have a bulk section of various candies (with a steep price tag, but I guess that is how it goes), candy bars, and some tourist trinkets. We purchased chocolate-covered blueberries and cranberries. I was told by the server that both were milk chocolate, though the blueberries were blue in color and tasted like white chocolate. Not bad, but I think she was misinformed. read more

My grandmother "from away" loves the fudge here, so it's my duty as her granddaughter to stop in and buy some before I visit her for the holidays every year. They also have a Fudge of the Month Club if you really need your monthly fudge fix. The nostalgia candy section is pretty bountiful and I love coming in the summer for the bulk salt water taffy (please bring back the sour flavors that you used to carry!) There's usually one person out front and another making fudge, so the service can get pretty slow. One time I walked out because I was ignored for over 10 minutes, and I decided I had better things to do with my time. It wasn't enough of a slight to stop returning (it isn't typical to be treated so), but it was an annoyance on that particular day. They request cash for transactions under $10, but they aren't pushy about it if you have a card. I find the items in the display to be tourist pricey (and not worth it), but I'm also not a huge fan of chocolate. read more

Old Port Candy is one of those places that you hope stays open so that your children can experience what buying candy should be like instead of waiting for the Halloween candy to go on sale at Walmart. I found candy that I haven't seen since I was in grade school. They have everything from large selections of truffles, fudge, cookies, gummy candies, and the biggest assortment of flavored malt balls I've seen. They even have an entire section devoted to bacon sweets. As classic as this candy store appears, it's nice to see that they have also embraced technology. You can purchase a $10 for $5 Yelp deal on your phone, which they honor immediately. The cashier also gave me a huge, free piece of fudge after redeeming the check-in offer. read more

Oh man, I cannot believe that this place is rated so highly. Yes, the place is super cute and gives you a vibe like you're at a candy shop in an old movie from the 60's. HOWEVER the prices are insane. And they don't have a whole lot of very exciting candy, it's all stuff you can get elsewhere for MUCH cheaper. Like CRAZY cheaper. I got 3 (small - but there's only one size) bags of candy, all stuff that should have been super cheap. 1 was filled with Jelly Belly jelly beans, the other with chocolate covered cherries/blueberries (the same kind you get at Trader Joe's for WAY, WAY cheaper.. however these were Maine ones), and 1 was half filled with malted milk balls. I also got one piece (ONE!) of pumpkin fudge that was ridiculously delicious. THE WHOLE THING COST FIFTY BUCKS!!! That's right people... half of a hundred dollar bill. Half a benjamin. On a couple pounds of candy. Not to mention the girl behind the counter was really not very nice. When she told me the price I really wanted to leave, but I'm a pansy so I just paid anyway and grumbled about it to myself on my way home. I think it's highly possible she mischarged me for the chocolate covered candy but you can't see what's going on on the old style register and with her calculator, and the receipt is not itemized so I didn't want to fight about it. I'm a punk. This place is a total tourist trap. If you must go here I'd stick with one piece of fudge, and one piece of chocolate covered bacon (be prepared to pay 7 bucks plus tax for the experience) and then get the hell out of dodge. read more
