This seems to have more products compared to the Scarborough location. I loved looking at all the options for cooking, baking and what not. We needed a tissue holder and got one of the ones they had. I also got some sparkling sugar for baking. I'm pretty used to their prices so that's not new. I understand they have to pay rent so I'm happy to support a specialty store like them. Service is as good as the Scarborough location. I like the layout of this store better though. read more

I am in love with LeRoux Kitchen and have been for a long time. I go in to browse just to feel happy - all the pretty Le Cruset colors, the fun gadgets you didn't know you needed, a huge knife selection for those who want to get serious about their chopping, a nice selection of local foodstuffs for locals and tourists alike - but my absolute favorite has to be being able to try the balsamic vinegars and olive oils before you buy, and the variety of unique flavors. Some I thought I'd love and didn't, and some I was surprised I loved. When spending $ on quality, it's wonderful to know you'll love what you bought! read more

I love stores like this. Local items like Maine syrup, Maine dish towels, Maine cook books, just a bunch of wonderful items to bring back to your home wherever that may be. Had a great time roaming through the store. They do have a small selection of extra virgin olive oil. Oils come from parts of the hemisphere, depending on the season. Their distributor is Veronica Foods, from California. These are high quality extra virgin olive oils, that are intensely inspected by a third party for pesticides and so on. I like the fact that you can taste before you buy. Great store. Happy I popped in and checked them out. read more

Delightfully stocked shelves with a mix of useful equipment and ingredients, but also unique gifts for all types of foodies. Most of the best things are on the first floor, but if you want more, there are larger appliances on the second floor, plus, at the bottom of the staircase, a little wine cellar and fridge with ready-chilled selections. read more

Bottom Line: Gorgeous and inspiring store full of high end kitchen gear, fun gizmos, gourmet foods and all sorts of other goodies. LeRoux Kitchen is a lot like a Williams-Sonoma or Sur La Table but better because its a small business with more variety. I was wowed when I walked through the front door and I loved looking around this beautiful store. Cookbooks, aprons, chocolate, pretty dishes, tea kettles, cutting boards, glassware - you name it, if its for the kitchen or the table top they have it. Excellent store quantity quality of products is unsuroasssed in this state. But the customer service is superb.

My parents had visited Maine back in April and during a stop in Portland they told me about this wonderful kitchen store they had stumbled upon. I didn't think much of it since I wasn't in the market for any new kitchen stuff, but I was browsing shops in the area and figured it was worth going in for a peek. As soon as I walked in, my vacation hat flew off and my adulting hat came on. I wanted everything - there were so many kitchen gadgets and stuff, I only wish my kitchen was big enough to hold it all. They have everything imaginable that one would need - silverware, bowls, all kinds of appliances, plus things you wouldn't find in a typical store. Do I need a garlic holder to keep my garlic and other bulbous plants fresh? Not really. Do I want it? Hell yes - especially when it has garlic sculpted into the ceramic. In all seriousness, I did find something that I had no choice but to buy. When I was a kid my grandma used to have this ceramic bowl that is traditionally used for mixing but she used for everything from eating cereal to sorting lentils. It had a distinct off-white color with a navy blue band going around its perimeter. I found one that looked exactly like it here at LeRoux - needless to say it's in my kitchen cabinet as I write this. Fully stocked with beautiful displays and lot of high-end brands, LeRoux delivers the goods with a friendly, knowledgable staff who are eager to help. Even if you're not in the market for kitchen gadgets, it's worth a stop in. If your experience is like mine, you never know what you'll find. read more

Like others have said, this is a Portland gem. They have a few other locations as well (I only have seen this one). This is a 2 story chef / foodie / rookie cook's dream. Tons of cute gadgets, sauces, cookware and more here. My favorite is the full aisle of balsamic and olive oil vats they have here which are extremely well kept and stocked for guests to do tastings of their various infused oils and vinegars. My god! They really are delicious! Try the espresso balsamic, 18yr aged balsamic and the blood orange olive oil (not together of course) - mind blown! Staff are friendly and do not stalk you so you're free to peruse at your pace (which I was pleasantly surprised about). We loved it so much we picked up a GC for our friend's mom since she's an avid cook / foodie. This is a must do "secret" tourist-y spot to check out (in the sense of the tastings I mean). read more

Visiting town for a wedding & happened on this place as we strolled the neighborhood in our free time. Amazing and very satisfying/entertaining find. We had fun checking everything out in this large and well stocked shop. Prices weren't crazy, (esp considering the touristy nature of the area). And we found French sea salt (THG item at home) and a shallow mortar/pestle set, which was above expectations for our walk ; ) At home in CHicago, I worked at Crate & Barrel for a while in college & regularly check out kitchen supply places for fun. LeRoux is as good or better than most we've been in and well worth a stop - even if you're not particularly into cooking. read more

I guess I would say, I grew up in a kitchen. Not a restaurant kitchen but any of a dozen home kitchens starting with the home in which I grew up and including one or the others belonging to my large extended family. Many of my fondest memories of family meals, important and not so important conversations, people cooking together, hanging out and general contented times happened in of these kitchens. And when my family is together, we are still almost always in one of our kitchens. As an adult the kitchen has always been the true heart of any home of mine and a place I'm thoughtful about decorating and about the things I use there. I'm drawn wherever I might be traveling to kitchen ware shops. LeRoux is a great shop that my husband and have been to many times and we never tire of browsing. It's a big place with two floors filled to the rafters with any equipment your heart might desire for the kitchen of your dreams. At this point, I feel pretty well outfitted with knives, pots, tools and machines and I'm not generally one to buy uni-purpose items which abound here, but it's my kind of fun to check all these things out. I'm drawn to dishes and glassware in particular as these two items are easy ways to change up the ways in which you can set a pretty table. There were some nice choices here. I wish I could say I needed more Le Creuset pieces but I don't. They have a nice selection. The colors available are such eye candy. The fern green is my latest favorite. While I didn't buy anything this time (except for a bag of malted milk balls from the candy jars on the counter) we had a nice time browsing. I'm grateful that my husband adores these kinds of stores too so I don't feel guilty popping into so many of them when we're out and about. He's the outside griller and not the indoor cook but like me, he loves making sure our kitchen is the place to be. read more

This is a Portland gem. If you like cooking or gourmet food, you'll be in heaven as soon as you walk in. Every kitchen appliance, gadget, pot, or pan you've ever dreamed of is in here. They even have a section with local sodas, a chocolate display case, an entire cast-iron section, a cake decorating nook, and delicious flavor-infused balsamics and olive oils galore. My favorites are their strawberry balsamic and fig balsamic vinegars. They're so delicious that I have been known to drink them straight-up, and they make great gifts. They recently (within the past year or so) expanded their upstairs level to include more dishes as well as a kitchen area where they do food demonstrations, samples, and cooking classes. We were lucky enough to stop in once when they were doing a hot dog condiment sample right before the 4th of July, and we got to try a number of delicious artisan condiments that I had never heard of before. I had an engaging talk with the same dark-haired middle-aged gentleman (possibly a manager?) both times I was here, and he was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and passionate about what he does. Overall, the prices of their wares are more expensive than what you'd find online, but it's worth supporting a local institution. If you're shopping for a food lover, you're guaranteed to find something they will enjoy in here. read more

This is an awesome spot to pick up gifts! I enjoyed reading all of the comical tea towels they had on display. There were so many amazing kitchen gadgets in the store too. This would be an ideal place to spoil the person in your life who loves to cook. They also had some adorable marzipan that was shaped into little pieces of fruit. On my registry is the entire store, which includes: -The massive variety of porcelain serving and cooking dishes in the back. -Entire sets of Kitchenaid mixers and Le Creucet vessels on the second floor. -All of the fresh chocolate bark and truffles that are in the front display case. -The delightful mix of uni- and multi-task tools located in the left section. -The entire kitchen on the second floor. Le Roux has literally everything you could want in a specialty kitchen store. Things I bought there on this trip up to Portland were: random size/shape cookie cutters, a baking sheet, and olive wood bowl to hold kosher salt. I was in the market for a french rolling pin but they didn't have any. That is my only complaint. Their selection of porcelain bakeware is impressive. Their food area is full of jams, honeys, tapenades, sea salts, baking extras, etc. Great selection! Their wine section is very nice too. Prices are fair and service is good. The in-house chocolate/candy counter is a very nice touch. Their sweets are delicious (albeit pricey)! I adore this place -- it's the Mecca of all kitchen supplies, gadgets, fun snacks/spices (popcorn seasonings, anyone?), all the droolworthy LeCrueset, and the most amazing tasting bar of infused olive oils and balsamic vinegars I've ever encountered. I felt like a kid in a candy store -- with free samples! Imagine tasting coconut, pineapple, honey ginger, or peach white balsamic vinegar... or chocolate, espresso, or black cherry dark balsamic vinegar... or Persian Lime, chipotle, or truffle-infused olive oil... and now imagine that they have a million different suggested pairings of the above, and you can just self-serve a drop or two of anything you like into these little sampling cups. We were in total heaven. :) Ended up buying small bottles (perfect for gifts at $11 each) of coconut white balsamic, chocolate dark balsamic, blood orange olive oil & toasted sesame oil, and thinking about going back for more! Also got some super-cute cookie cutters and fun kitchen gadgets (a scraper for nonstick pans & casserole dishes; a ducky-shaped silicone "sponge" that doesn't harbor as much bacteria because it dries off so fast). Some days I feel like spending $$$ and treating my inner chocoholic movie star persona. That's usually when I head to LeRoux. Other people may go to LeRoux for its crazy selection of balsamic vinegar and olive oil or for kitchen supplies, but I go to LeRoux when I feel like trying out new chocolates and candies. LeRoux carries a few brands of chocolates from all over the country, including bon bons from Black Dinah (Isle au Haut, ME) and Moonstruck (Portland, OR) showcased in a glass display by the cash registers. There are also chocolates from Compartes (Los Angeles), Chuao (Carlsbad, CA), Taza (Somerville, MA), Vosges-Haut (Chicago), Lake Champlain (Vermont), and a few other brands. In addition, LeRoux carries maple syrup, maple candies, McCrea's caramels, malt balls, and many other goodies. I can't go to LeRoux too often because I find it hard to control myself from buying everything in sight, but I highly recommend LeRoux for all my sweet tooth fellows out there! read more

I needed a pestle and mortar for a recipe I was following and I headed here to grab one. They have a huge selection of anything kitchen related and their prices were actually lower than what I was going to pay on amazon. While I was there I asked about a container for salad dressing and the employee on the floor was so helpful showing me multiple options. Their olive oils and balsamic vinegars are amazing too. This is a nice store filled with various cooking supplies, food products, tourist souvenirs, and the like. We wandered in on a rainy day and found it a pleasant 20 minute diversion. We purchased a couple of local products, talked with the staff, and in general had a nice time. Their prices were higher than a regular supermarket but in line with other specialty cookware stores. As they literally appear to be the only game in town, if you have a need for a specific cooking item or food product like olive oil or vinegar you would do well to check this place out. read more

I was in the old port on a mission for a metal strainer, and Leroux Kitchen was recommended to be by another business when they did not carry them. My first thought was "oh, that expensive, fancy, touristy kitchen store?" but figured I'd give it a shot... Boy was I wrong! I am so upset that I have passed by this fantastic store so many times on my own assumption that it was an over-priced tourist trap. The store was warm, inviting, moderately-priced, and amazingly-stocked. I love to cook and was so excited to see their great selection of kitchen gadgets. I definitely found my metal strainer and also left with a heart-shaped cookie cutter. Le Roux has everything you could ever want for your kitchen; including silicone baking sheets, interesting cookie cutters (including Maine-themed), every type of whisk, tarte dishes, specialty food-dyes, mixers, locally made sauces, knives, dutch ovens, cocktail mixers, fish-shaped vases, and great salt and pepper mills. I need a blender, I think I'll be back soon. Oh, and did I mention the Olive Oils and Vinegar tasting bar? Amazing. Also, good selection of chilled wine, coffee, chocolates, and candies. It's organized, stylish, and a thousand times more inviting than your standard chain retail store. I can't believe I'd never been inside before; I've walked by it hundreds of times over the last few years. My husband is the cook of the family, and he wanted so many knick knacks that we ended up browsing for a while, though we were able to refrain from making too many purchases. The prices seemed fair and reasonable, and a variety of brands and products were featured for each need. The store has a huge olive oil and vinegar tasting section and also carries local sauces and treats. My mom was looking for an oddball item and found it upstairs, which made the trip even more of a success. We'll definitely be back here the next time we need a kitchen thingamabob. read more

The Best selection of vinegar and all available to taste before buying. Its bit pricey but you dont by it often and its nowhere else that you can sample such an ample selection. We were in the store about 10 mins prior to closing and the store employees kept circling around telling us they are closing soon. How have I lived in Portland for four years and not known that there was an olive oil and vinegar tasting bar on Commercial street??? The white coconut vinegar and the black truffle oil are reasonably priced and worth every drop! My only comment would be that I thought there should be bread. Only because I had it that way at another tasting room and it enhances the experience and therefore the potential for sale :) On a side note, there is a lot of eye candy for the amateur to pro chef. This store is so good, I had to come back twice within a 24-hour period to make sure I'd really seen everything and gotten everything I needed before leaving town. My precious bounty includes some unique martini glasses I've been in search of forever (less shallow so I won't spill - I tend to do that, you see), a wicked cool tea cup/strainer duo that was too cute to leave there, some fabulous tea to put in said duo, and a few items of barware for good measure. Had I had my way, I would have left with several pieces of Le Creuset and every single item that OXO had hanging on their shelves. Sigh. If you're looking to equip your kitchen, this is the place. The staff are definitely happy to let you explore the store at your own pace, so if you need help it's better to ask than wait for someone to offer. Can you get a better deal on Amazon? I went to Leroux to find Mother's Day gifts for my mom and mother in law. From the moment I walked in the door everyone was great. They have a vast selection of everything kitchen! The ladies helped me find a good cook book and directed me towards the truffle oil. Both my mom and mother in law loved their gifts and I couldn't have had a better experience! Tip: utilize the people working there! They are so helpful and can come up with creative ideas if you need any guidance. I love kitchens and all the things that they can be and can do. I love this store in a similar way. Two expansive floors of ridiculously wonderful kitchen sundries and supplies, including the following things which I covet: bowls and platters and tableware oh my! cutting boards made from a variety of exotic (endangered?) hardwoods gourmet malt balls (!! maple flavor !!) and many other decadent candies rubber grippers with a pig snout design multi-shaped ice cube trays and cookie cutters organizing things table linen and adorable aprons gadgets galore an entire second floor full of large and small high end appliances and (drum-roll please) an olive oil and vinegar tasting station (gasp!) with my favorite, porcini mushroom (um, steaming buttery mashed potatoes, heeelllllooo??). Since moving to Maine from down south I have recently developed an addiction to baking - for me cold winters heighten the importance of finding fun indoor activities to enjoy. I am starting to wonder, though, if my interest hasn't been influenced by this great shop! Le Roux is a wonderfully warm place to explore when out and about the old port. I really enjoy window shopping here, finding it like a sort of "Best Buy" for the kitchen . I like to hold things throughout the store in my hand. I imagine using them in my own kitchen and very often marvel over why someone would need the thing at all! But when I DO need some something for my kitchen I have always found it here. Of course you could shop at a big box store, all of which shall go unnamed in this review, but why? Le Roux is in town, fun, and only the upstairs is really unaffordable - But isn't it so much fun to go up there, even if only to look? read more

Great selection of olive oils and vinegars that are available for tasting. The summer peach white balsamic was great and would be perfect for a summer salad. The 18yr balsamic vinegar was also amazing. The store is filled with fun kitchen gadgets and equipment/pans upstairs. The prices are comparable with the larger chains and online, so buy it here and support this great small business.
