The Nest has been my favorite store ever since I moved to Maine over a decade ago. I love what the new owners have done with changing things around and making the store attractive and easier to shop. They are really nice people. The products are still the best anywhere around. I LOVE(d) this store so much. I always knew I would find something special. However, today I went there to find a housewarming gift, and a couple birthday presents and Valentines Day gifts. I planned on doing a big shop. I chose not to because they have now expressed clearly their politics. A Graham Platner sign in the window and NO ICE signs in the back made me realize it's not a shop for everyone anymore. I am an independent and really dislike it when establishments show what side they are on. Several of my republican friends have said the same and will not shop there anymore. It's so sad. I pray they reconsider and be a store where politics is not an issue and where everyone will feel welcome! I would be giving this same review if the signs were for republicans too. read more

Nest has new owners and the place is amazing! I've always loved their merchandise~ great unique gifts and home goods. The vibe now is pure delight! It's fun to be there. I stopped in for the first time today and was blown away by the sales (50% off the discounted price), the quality of the items, and the overall vibe of the store. Lisa, one half of the husband/wife owner duo, was warm and welcoming and easily forgave my transgression of one of the customer cardinal rules: don't stay after closing. I've recommended this store to everyone I know because I love the stuff they carry. You are guaranteed to find lots of stuff here that makes great gifts, which is why I insisted my 83 year old mother and my 14 year old kid head over there today, on Christmas Eve. Wow, was I excited! My kid noted a mug they liked. I set it aside with a lovely salesperson. I continue to shop, and ended up checking out with over $100 of stuff! But then my kid asked if I'd bought then the mug, explaining that they did NOT want it for Christmas, and they felt bad. So I waked the ten paces back to the counter from which I'd purchased many items just 2 minutes before, and explained my situation to the sales person. She noted I'd not even left the store yet. Then a commanding woman with white hair and stylish frames took over, asking, "What is the matter here?" I explained that my kid did not in fact like the mug. She told me I was welcome to swap it out with something else. I explained that I would prefer to return it. "We don't do returns. You can exchange it or we can give you a store credit." I mused aloud that I could pick something else out. She said, I kid you not, "You have ten minutes." They were about to close. My 83 year old mother was behind me, preparing to purchase something. I really felt just so angry at the manner in which this individual spoke with me. It was totally unnecessary, I felt all the Xmas spirit I mustered wither right then and there. The nice employee looked mortified. I said, "Never mind. I'll just put [the mug] in my airbnb," choosing instead to extricate myself from this toxic interaction. Once outside, my mother told me, "You should take your business elsewhere. There was no need for her to speak to you that way." And then my 14 nodded in agreement. All three of us were appalled. It had been such a nice day we'd spent together up until that point. Fortunately, we headed to Gulf of Maine Books right after that and met some of the nicest sales folks/business owners ever. Take your business there instead! In the future, I'll go to Nest and see what I like. Then I'll shop for all of those items online and get them way cheaper.Not only is the owner (if that is who this woman was) insanely rude, all of their products are marked way way up. Nest is a carefully curated home goods store on the main strip in Brunswick Maine, that is definitely worth a stop if you are in town. It is an excellent place to find a gift for that hard to buy for person in your life. On the main floor, there is an abundance of lovely serving pieces and linens for the kitchen. There is also an excellent selection of candles and jewelry and typically a seasonal section. When I was there recently, it was all manner of lovely touches for the garden. Nest also has a downstairs, with larger furniture items for sale like bed frames, couches and chairs. You access the downstairs in the very back of the store on the left...and on your way there, don't miss the shelves of lovely stationary and journals, right before you head down the stairs! read more

I'm not sure what I'd do with any of the dozens of different kinds of tiny ceramic dishes (sushi night? forever?), but it's a whole thing. Stopped by on one of the hottest days yet, it was a 100 degree day and this place was a great spot to cool down for a bit and look around at the fun little vessels, vases, holders, trinkets etc. They have a bit of everything and would make a great place for anyone looking for the perfect host/hostess gift, or really any gifting needs for that matter. From mugs, to locally made cards, to ornaments, to candles, Nest has it all. The displays are packed with fun finds, but it is all done in such a clean and tidy way that everything looks full and bountiful without being overwhelming. After reading the reviews my experience is no surprise. Rude and not customer focused experience. Ten minutes before closing they were telling the shoppers they were closing. Two minutes before closing they were telling people they were closed and making them feel like they had to leave. Told them my son wanted to make a purchase and thanks for kicking us out. Their response was it is 6pm. It was still 5:58. When I pressed that it was not 6pm their response was we did not have enough time to make a purchase. I'll be surprised if they are still open in the next 2-4 years. Don't shop here. read more

It seems like every great downtown has a store like Nest -- a beautiful space that's stuffed with interesting and unique merchandise that's lovingly curated and thoughtfully placed throughout the store. Nest would be a great place to browse for gifts for friends, family, and even yourself if it weren't for the boorish owner behind the counter who regularly amuses himself by making insulting comments at the expense of his customers just loudly enough so he hopes they hear him. I love this store! It's a must stop whenever we are in Brunswick. Incredible selection of house items, furniture, art, collectibles, kitchen oddities, jewelry - you name it, you will find it here. The bottom floor is great with tons of furniture and throw pillows. I love their jewelry selection. In fact, I have gotten more compliments on the flower wooden earrings I purchased here (a steal at $20) than any other piece of jewelry in recent memory so I made a special trip back to buy a pair for a friend and a Christmas present. The prices for many items are a bit expensive but the quality appears very good. We bought a throw pillow that has a whale and is just delightful and it's very sturdy for a pillow. I haven't found the woman at check out to be very friendly though which is a pity. It wouldn't stop me from returning, of course, and I definitely recommend stopping in when in the downtown. read more

Great stuff but rude employees. We had a number of items picked to purchase out when our child needed to go to the bathroom. Having frequented Brunswick businesses for the past 20 years I knew how flexible and friendly the area was and assumed that the child of a customer would be welcomed to use their restroom. Unfortunately no- as the store employee explained, their landlord simply wouldn't allow them to let a 4 year old use the bathroom when nature called, and they were unwilling to help. So we went to Wylers a few doors down and not only did they have an even better selection of items, they also graciously opened their restroom doors to a 4 year old. read more

I visited Nest in August and had a very pleasant experience. It was a pleasure to stumble upon this cute store, seeing as I was visiting from North Carolina. I found many quality gifts, which were truly unique to Maine. The woman working behind the counter was very friendly and welcoming. I ended up purchasing a couple local artist prints and a coffee mug for camping. I would say that most of the items were fairly priced, as I know they were made locally. My partner and I will be relocating to the area in the next few months and will look forward to stopping by Nest more frequently! We support local businesses and want to see them succeed! read more

The chain I could compare it to the most would be Anthropologie. Such a neat place. An awesome selection of home goods, candles, jewelry, paper goods, etc... many of which are locally made. I spent about 15 minutes just sampling and smelling all of the delicious soaps, lotions, and bath salts. Older couple, went in last Friday and was looking for a lamp for my family room. Found 3, none of which they would sell me. Yes, it's a store and they wouldn't sell me a lamp. Two of them, which were a pair, were "here so long, now we think they're part of the store". The third lamp, which clearly had a price ($325 - for a lamp - not inexpensive) they told me was not for sale either and they took the price tag off and threw it out in front of me.
