Now on Commercial street in a new location. This store is visually stunning to the eye. Small but packed with beautiful curated displays. So many thoughtful items. Wool blankets, socks, books, vintage glassware and cutlery to name a few. A small section in the back of baby items are a must stop if you need a unique baby gift. A few items I was obsessed with this time were the wooden handle dust brushes and the lucia goatmilk soaps. Stop here your next trip to the old port. A beautiful home goods and "stuff you don't need but should totally buy" store. Beautiful knick knacks, delicacies, handmade goods, candles, luxury beauty products, children's' toys, and more. Very upscale with prices to match. However: you'll feel like a bull in a china shop navigating their Minotaurean-esque, Labrynth-y layout. Only cons are that you'll absolutely spend $80 every single time you come here, and the staff watches you like a hawk no matter how you present. read more

This place is incredible! European accented home items, tableware, including full sets of silver, China bath products, baby products, women's linens, and other items. However, the most recent time I was in, the incense smell was so overpowering that I had to leave immediately due to my asthma, with smells and scents being a trigger. B+M sells such lovely and beautiful products!! The baby section has a wonderful variety of artsy books, toys, kitchen ware, and clothes, with certified organic brands like Pehr and Winter Water Factory (the cutest prints!). I was thrilled to see Peruvian made Blabla dolls which are specifically made in Peru because of its knitting culture, and they are the best size for small and large kids to cuddle (two doll sizes available) and their rattles as well. Lots of shabby chic handmade (pricey!!!) goodies in a perfectly laid out establishment. It seems to cater to more of a high end clientele, but there were a good number of things for the rest of us, too. Soaps, linens, tchotchkes, accessories...plenty of items to look through. Blanche and Mimi is a great spot to get a last minute gift that ends up being the best you've ever given. They are so helpful and will wrap your purchases for you! There are tons of eclectic items and you'll need to take multiple laps just to make sure you saw it all. The only downside is it can be a bit over the top as far as pricing goes... but every time I've purchased a gift here, it's been a huge hit. My boyfriend still raves about his handmade brass shoe horn... I mean...who would of thought? Get their basil scented candle in a mason jar... it makes the whole house smell like you're a talented chef. read more

I went into this shop years ago. It had not been open long. There was interesting stuff there, but very overpriced. I left without buying anything, and vowed never to return. The young woman who owns the shop was diffident at best, ignoring me, not attempting to engage in conversation when I tried. I was appalled by her rudeness, as usually, people with small shops like to at least PRETEND to be friendly. She was snooty and indifferent. I have related this story to many people, finding often that others have had the same experience. So, if you want to be treated as if you have leprosy, or at least as if you don't merit someone's attention, shop at Blanche and Mimi. read more

I love this store! It's one of the few places that I know I can always count on for a great baby gift. They carry a few really great lines that are hard to come by in Maine, specifically winter water factory and tooby doo. My son practically lived in these adorable prints and stripes when he was a baby and I love giving them as gifts. Yes, they are slightly pricey but they use quality fabrics that truly last. And they are unique and adorable. They also have a great selection of gift items. I can always find something I want for myself or something to pick up as a gift. I love the wrapping paper and card selection as well. This is a tasteful and well edited store and I'm glad that it's in portland! read more

Tasteful hand made and interior decorator playground with post holiday funds worthy of picking through. Cute selection of infant and toddler toys and clothing but not enough to do much other than shower someone. I'd say this is a great knick knack shop and it is coupled with tasty eats for a sweet tooth and aromatherapy type candles so likely something for everyone. read more

Blanche + Mimi is a fabulous shop filled with a lovely mix of unique items everywhere you turn. No doubt you'll find something you adore! I've been lucky enough to pass through Portland in the last two summers. While there I was looking for unique gifts. Being just a few blocks up from the water front on Middle Street, Blanche + Mimi was worth the short walk. So many shops on water front are filled w touristy items one could find in any town on the water. Sorry to be so frank, but many of the items in those shops have little use other than collecting dust. But Blanche + Mimi is different. It carries home decor items I've never found anywhere else. Yes, there are deliciously scented candles, and creamy lotions as well as tea towels that make sweet gifts. But there are so many more wonderfully unique items both excellent for gifts and items you'll want to buy for yourself. I particularly enjoyed some of their accessories. Recently, I contacted the owner because I was looking for another of the item which had become a personal favorite and I had purchased there. Though the shop was closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, and it had been months since I had been there, she went out of her way to figure out what I was looking for. She took the time to go to the shop and then coordinated sending the item to me...even the wrapping in the package was special. Now that's a shop who truly cares about its customers. The store is charming, with wonderful ambiance. A whole display of Orla Kiely bags, Petuna Picklebottom diaper bags, lovely napkins and tablecloths. Lovely candles, jewelry, etc. However, I felt that there was relatively few unique items. I decided to plan an entire trip to Portland Maine, simply to visit the store. I was all primed to buy something, but couldn't quite find that special item. It's a good thing that I visited Abacus, and other stores in the area that had truly one of a kind crafts glassware and pottery. If you're in Portland, definitely visit the shop. This store has beautiful, though pricey, things (I'd say slightly overpriced - I think you can get some of the same things elsewhere for less). But the real reason I knocked my rating down to 3 stars is because the sales staff is just unpleasant. They don't smile and they barely acknowledge your presence (even when you ask a question or try to make conversation). I went in, asked a question, purchased two items, paid and wished everyone a happy holiday, and the two sales peoples' facial expressions never changed once - not even a smile when I said thanks and happy holidays! My daughter bought a blanket here and realized when packing for college she could not take everything. So this blanket was not very warm so she decided to return it. When I took it to the store I was told Store credit only, which I understand some stores do. I asked if my daughter was told that and was told its on the receipt, which you would only receive after you purchase something, this is not right you should be told before purchasing something, while I was waiting in the store one person checked out and I never heard them be told that returns store credit only. After i was told this I did see someone else put back what they were looking at and leave. I totally understand that small business need every penny but really this is to much I wasn't asking for cash just to be credited to the card it was bought on. She has moved to NYC for four years for college I am sure by the time she gets out/visits home she wont have a need for anything in this store what she will need is the money. I just don't understand why a business would not give you back the money when the item is as you received it. It only shows me that they don't think their merchandise it worth what they sold it for. Fabulous home accessory store with a great mix of vintage and new! My favorite store in Portland!

Nice albeit overpriced items, which must be why as soon as my pregnant sister and I went to the baby section of the store we were immediately followed and watched with an insultingly close eye by the woman working. She stood maybe 5 feet from us the whole time "tinkering" with some baby items, not saying anything or asking us questions, but it was very obvious she was just watching to see what we were doing. We thought about just leaving right then and there without buying anything, but bought an item or two instead. The rudeness continued as we were paying with no thank you or a pleasant goodbye. It's too bad because we probably will never go back to support a local store because of this woman. read more
