The Haberdashery is every fashionista's dream, whether it be as a buyer or seller. Their selection is upscale, with high-quality and trendy brands such as Reformation, Madewell, Cos, Aritzia, Sezane, Levis, etc., all for quite the bargain. Perfect for early-20-somethings to mid-40-somethings with an eye for fashion but with the other eye on their checking account. I've found Agolde jean shorts, a $300 winter jacket for only $110 (which has become a staple in my Maine winter wardrobe!) and countless cute sweaters and tops at a fraction of their retail price. They have a great selection of dresses apt for wedding guests, and a solid amount of high quality footwear as well. The way the store is organized is yet another plus. They organize by clothing type and color, which makes for a seamless shopping experience and caters to my selectivity. As someone who is embarrassingly picky about what ends up in my wardrobe's rotation, and is also committed to ethical consumerism, but whose wallet can't always accommodate my tastes, the Haberdashery is a godsend. I'm always surprised at what I end up finding (and walking away with) whenever I head in. As a seller, I appreciate their model--get more bang for your buck with store credit, or opt for cash-only. I actually LOVE this shop! I strolled past while walking to a bar the night before & knew I wanted to stop by the next day. The boutique exceeded my expectations! Designer brands from every day wear to athletic apparel take up the racks. The prices are beyond reasonable for the quality & items you are shopping through. For example - a Rebecca Minkoff purse was only $90. Most designer dresses were about $40, etc. Lululemon leggings running for $35! Great selection, but smaller, for men, as well! I cannot WAIT to shop here again next time i'm in Portland. read more

My first experience with Haberdashery occurred over 5 years ago when I purchased a brand new Dooney and Bourke tote bag for $50... TAGS STILL ON! I was able to use store credit towards my purchase which made it an unbelievable deal. Fast forward several years and this store has been beautifully renovated and has created such an amazing online presence (thank you, Instagram) that you'll never find an easier way to buy consignment clothing than at Haberdashery. The store has both men and women's clothing, is clean and extremely well organized. I stopped into the store to pick up a dress I purchased online a week ago and I ended up purchasing a pair of beautiful, handmade macrame earrings by a local artist. As a seller I absolutely love Haberdashery! It was tough to find my go to spot when I moved from Boston to Portland but like Goldilocks said, this is just the right fit. The ladies at Haberdashery have great taste and it works well with my own personal style. They have a great mix of high end, contemporary and vintage that works well with the modern Portland ME lady. I also love that I don't need to make an appointment and it's so easy to drop by. The one pitfall is that I have to find a good parking spot but after double parking on Newbury Street to drop off bags, this is a walk in the park. They've got some great finds and also sell men's clothes! They usually also have the best selection in leather boots that I've seen, second hand, in the area! Loretta is also fantastic so I'm giving her a shout. Check this place out if you haven't! read more

Love love love this place! It's my favorite consignment shop by far. There are others that I love, but this place has my heart. I've gotten so many fun and interesting pieces for my wardrobe that I would have probably never stumbled across on my own. The quality of the pieces is superb, everything I've gotten from here feels brand new. I love that they showcase jewelry made by local artists as well. Living on Munjoy Hill, we took notice when Haberdashery opened near Washington on Congress but they were swiftly done in by fire. And not your garden variety fire either, this was the it-has-to-be-made-up kind of fire caused by sparklers in a toaster. They were forced to close their doors, leaving all the merchandise in place until the entire mess could be sorted out. Sitting in the window were a pair of lonely motorcycle boots that my husband so very desperately wanted. Through rain, sun, snow, falling leaves, falling pollen, he trudged past its shuttered doors staring longingly at those boots. He would sometimes lay in bed at night wistfully wondering how he could track down the owners to rescue the boots from their solitary life. The memory of those boots were nearly forgotten, the pain of not having them had dulled to a nearly imperceptible ache, when we noticed a posting for the triumphant reopening of the store in the West End. Joy immeasurable filled his soul! We swam like salmon upstream against the current of bodies clogging the sidewalks for Art Walk, full of something akin to a biological imperative, until we found their new location. Warm yellow light spilled out onto the brick, beckoning us in. His heart raced at the possibility of finding his boots, his eyes searched with panic and purpose. Front to back and side to side we searched but couldn't find them. He hung his head low and prepared to give them up when we decided we should ask the friendly women at the check out. Perhaps they could at least assure him that the boots had gone to a good home full of love and sweet-smelling feet. We explained our plight. One of the purveyors looked perplexed but a light sparked in the eyes of the other who scurried into the back room to find them. Out she emerged, holding one of the shoes in her hands like a royal first born. I thought he may weep right there. Kismet is what she called it and, though the price was more than reasonable on the pair to begin with, she gave them to us at half off. Haberdashery is a magical place. read more

I have been here twice, and I will be back! Unfortunately, the second time I visited, I was left with a bad taste in my mouth. Prices very reasonable and great selection! Found an awesome Loft dress for a wedding for $16. Very well organized, especially compared to most used clothing stores. Nice shoes, accessories, good brand names, etc... all positive things! First time I stopped in the girl behind the counter was very sweet and helpful, and not overbearing. Couldn't wait to go back for more cheap treasures. Second time I stopped in there were a few people behind the counter (why?) and I was not so much as acknowledged with a glace from anyone, and they were openly swearing up a storm! Dropping F bombs all over the place and cracking up. I'm not easily offended, but have some professionalism. read more

You can only sell at certain times but the manager was super nice and let me still sell a few items anyways. Very wide selection of brands and styles. The woman at the counter was friendly but not at all overbearing (especially since I was the only customer in the store), and I had a fun time perusing the shirts and dresses. I stopped by today, mid-afternoon on a Monday, and the only shopper in the store. I checked out the ladies shirts, pants, shoes, and dresses and not a single "hello" (or any grunt that acknowledged my presence) from the woman behind the counter. I didn't see anything that prompted a try on, but if I had, I think I would have passed. I have found this city to be really friendly... and my dollars are going elsewhere. read more
