Seafood Cocktail

The Seafood Cocktail was amazing! It was very fresh and loaded with shrimp, calamari and fresh avocado. There was a great selection of oysters that were very affordable.

What a great atmosphere! Busy Friday at noon for sure!! Waitlist for ranked good drink menu- love that you fill out your order form, pay for everything at counter and they bring it to you. Outdoor & indoor seating... very clean & nice unisex bathrooms. Parking area that is no charge( that is a bonus in Portland!) Loved the clam dip and our selection of oysters . On the Maine oyster trail!

The Shop at Island Creek Oysters is one of those rare gems you look forward to returning to year after year--and I have, happily consuming at least four dozen oysters on this trip alone. They offer an incredible $2 oyster deal that runs all day, and yes--they shuck them fresh right in front of you. No grit, super clean, and you usually get a great variety (we had 4-6 kinds, all local to Maine). Don't skip the fixings either--their mignonettes and hot sauces elevate everything. Beyond oysters, they have a small but well-curated menu of high-quality bites--think tinned fish (highly recommend the Tonnder sardines), pickled goods, clam dip, and toasts that are simple but spot-on. You can tell everything is sourced with care. They also have happy hour drink specials, but honestly, the $2 oyster deal alone is worth the stop. Tips: there's a parking lot on site, dog friendly, order at counter and they bring out your food. Jndoor and outdoor seating.

So happy I stumbled upon this gem! I wanted to try some oysters while in Portland but didn't like any of the restaurants near the waterfront. This place was exactly what I was looking for. A cute, casual, but yummy place to try some oysters and tin fish. Especially loved the presentation and pairings of the tin fish. Came with some bread, sauerkraut, pickles, mustard and pickled onion. This was the perfect little snack before walking down the street to the duckfat stand and brewery for fries and a drink :).

The oysters here are $1.95 each, all the time. It sure beats chasing dollar oyster deals around town that are only on specific days at specific times! We arrived during Happy Hour (drink deals, no food deals) and it was packed, but we were still seated quickly and were able to snag an indoor seat on a hot hot day. You fill out your order sheet and then wait in line to order/pay at the counter. The food then gets delivered to your table as fast as they can shuck. They had 4 different varieties of oysters that day, so we ordered equal amounts of each to try them all. The oysters were clean, cold, and fresh. Great nuance of flavors ranging from sweet to briny. Definitely head here to get your oyster fix!

The shop is such a great casual yet trendy sea-foodie experience. They have both oyster selection, where you can choose from 5 different local oysters. I always opt for river oysters and I was glad to see that The Shop had so many options. They also have a build your own tin-fish board which I hope to return and try in the future! I went on a weekday close to when they opened and it wasn't busy, no wait!

One of our favorite places when we visit Maine. The oysters are amazing as well as the crab roll and tinned fish. Staff is so friendly. Side note: they have a great happy hour. Cant wait to come back

Huge fan of the Shop - everything is always wonderful from ambiance, staff, and seafood offerings. The Shop is a bit tucked away from the main offerings on Commercial street, but in our opinion has the best oyster offerings in the area we've tried. The ambiance is lively and the Shop is always crowded but we've never had to wait for seating. The oyster offerings change everyday and are always immaculately shucked. They come with house made sauces which are delicious in their own right. Pricing is very reasonable at 1.95 per oyster which is much much cheaper than others in the area. Service is always prompt and friendly. The food items on the menu are most cold, so thus is a better place for a snack or a light meal versus a full meal.

We cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed The Shop a raw bar seafood and much more offering the freshest of fresh of everything. The oysters were genuinely so good we ate here twice in our time in town. We normally don't do caviar with dinner but we indulged ourselves. Ice cream and hotdogs are also on the side of the building for your pleasure. Easy 5 stars rating love Maine's oysters.

The Shop is an oyster bar located on Washington Ave, serving up a seafood-forward menu along with light bites (customizable, elevated charcuterie) and great drinks. Fill out your order card and pay at the counter, then enjoy your meal at one of their tables indoors, which are good for groups or duos, or outside on their beautiful, open-air patio. I loooooved: The Oysters (the Damariscotta with cocktail sauce and horseradish were my favorite variety) The boozey, frozen cucumber vodka lemonade (delicious and refreshing!) The sardines in tomato oil (kettle chips, salted and wasabi butter, seaweed salad, pickled things included on a platter) What was meh: The deviled egg dip with chives and salmon roe (I had high hopes but tbh, it needs some flakey salt or more umami flavor) The scallop aguachile (similar to ceviche--the scallops were beyond buttery, but the melon and cucumber accompaniments just didn't do it for me) Delicious seafood in a sophisticated yet casual environment, great decor and indoor/outdoor seating, friendly staff, and a great location! Can't wait to go back.

A great spot for fresh oysters! You order at the front and they will serve you once it's ready. There's plenty of seating the the staff were very welcoming. Tried the Flying Point, Norumbega and Blackstone Point. It's nice that the selection rotates depending on when they get the oysters. The plants gave it a nice vibe.

If you are looking for oysters, this is your place! You can order individually or by the dozen from 6 different kinds. They tasted so fresh and delicious!

Amazing. I love oysters and will happily make a meal out of oysters and this was right up my alley. The menu is short and sweet - oysters, tinned fish/other seafood, some dips, and a crab roll. We got basically one of everything from each section of the menu. My favorites in order: 1. The oysters. Duh. Fresh, beautifully shucked with not a bit of shell, lots of juice left. $1.95 each. 2. Tinned sardines, which came with butter, bread, pickles. 3. Crab roll - lots of tender, sweet crabmeat but the bun was a little stale and could've used some butter. 4. Caviar. Not a caviar fan, but I did appreciate the ENORMOUS mound of Cape Cod kettle chips that came with it. Food came out very quickly! There's also a pick-up window right outside where you can also get soft serve and hot dogs. Bonus points for the parking lot.

The oysters were super fresh and delicious and my only regret is that we didn't have time to try one of their tinned fish options!

The bar is clean, modern and the machines are fun. It was great to be able to get small servings of different wines and then a larger serving when you found something you like. But I found the wine servings to be expensive for the wines they were offering, and the selection had a limited variety that did not cover most of the wines that I prefer. So, I am still looking for the perfect wine bar in Portland.

I think Angoor's sweet spot is going to be with: a) people…read morewho know nothing about wine but are curious about learning more, b) people who know they like wine but don't want to spend money on full bottles to find their favorite, when a place like this offers "sample" sizes, c) longtime locals looking for something novel, d) bachelorette parties, e) corporate day trips, f) tourists staying at the very nearby Residence Inn. THE SPACE I agree with other reviewers both on Yelp and other platforms (sometimes we think what's being said here is isolated, when it's not): it's an immaculate space, yes, but also very sterile. There's no character or charm or distinct personality atmospherically: it's a white room with white marble tables and seven mini silver "kegoraters" (for lack of a better explanation) that dispense the wines. THE MENU When I visited, all the wines offered were listed on a packet of stapled together 8x11 papers (that had been previously written on by other customers): the font was tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiny and there was SO MUCH information to read about each one. I wonder if there's a more pithy way to share this because it's overwhelming as is - I would think especially to people new to wine. THE EXPERIENCE When you arrive you hand over your credit card and you are given a wine card. Walk up to any of the dispensers, tap your wine card on the machine (there's a little sensor on the left hand side by the first screen of the machine), then select the size pour you want (2, 4, or 6 oz) from the screen above the wine you want. The wine comes out *VERY* quickly after you make your decision, so make sure your wine glass is under the nozzle it needs to be. When you're finished, walk up to the counter, hand them the wine card, and they'll charge the credit card you gave them!

Via Vecchia was definitely worth the wait, and this was one of the most surprising restaurants during our trip. We ordered the brussel sprouts, grilled octopus, campanelle, and radiatori. The brussel sprouts was the one dish that I was most hesitant about, seeing that it was paired with a blueberry agrodolce. Not a typical combination, but this ended up being a favorite. The sweetness & tartness of the sauce worked SO well with the sprouts - it's an excellent dish. The octopus had the perfect char, and all of the flavor pairings were really cohesive. I had never heard of either of the pastas, but I loved the textures of both. The campanelle with nduja cream was delicious, but did get to be a little heavy about halfway through. Radiatori with bolognese was a classic but well executed dish. Service is attentive without being overbearing. Prices are super reasonable.

The lemon sole (fish) and octopus carpaccio (not pictured) were filled with flavor! The pork belly was very underwhelming and I would not order again. The waiter said 2-4 plates per person. I recommend starting on the lower end and adding additional dishes based on how you're feeling. The amount of food was very different from dish to dish. For example the tuna dip had way too much bread and the pork belly was very small in size. Overall I was half impressed. I wish the staff would take a moment to announce the plate as it's placed next to you or point it out on the menu for those hard of hearing and wanting to know what they are about to enjoy. However the music, overall restaurant vibe and half the dishes exploding with flavor made my experience pleasant and I will return again knowing a bit more of what to expect and looking at photos of the menu/meal options beforehand.

I dont eat seafood but I keep trying .He gave me a couple of suggestions and explained why he picked the dishes he suggested. I ended up ordering the carrot appetizer. Our server described to us the specials for appetizers but never said anything about entree specials (maybe there weren't any?). We ordered the cloverleaf rolls, a cup of clam chowder, a cup of lobster bisque, and the maine mussels before our entrees. Both the clam chowder and the lobster bisque were just ok.. nothing special. The bisque was too sweet and had very little lobster. The mussels were the highlight of the meal. The sauce of cider, mustard and dill was very interesting and had deep flavor. The bread served with the mussels was also delicious. The cloverleaf rolls were great too, but perhaps a little too soggy/greasy from the butter at the bottom of the skillet. For our entrees we had the scallops and the halibut. The scallops were delicious- nicely seared and served with mushrooms and a green pea sauce which was bright and flavorful. The halibut however was not my favorite. The fish itself was cooked very well with a crispy skin, but it was swimming in brown butter and hazelnuts and lacked depth of flavor. It also seemed like an odd choice of flavors for a spring menu. It was served with potatoes that needed a bit more salt. We were too full for dessert and also didn't finish our meals. We sat around for a fairly long time not touching our meals without the server checking on us. Eventually we had to flag them down to get boxes and pay the check. While the ambiance was very nice, for the price and the reputation we expected more. Everything else we have eaten in Portland so far has been fantastic so it was a bit of a letdown.
