The small bar manages to feature a variety of local beers to try, from light to dark, so I warmed myself with a delicious oatmeal stout on this frigid New Year evening. After some waffling, I went with my comfort foods: poutine and lobster roll. While we waited for the appetizers, I spied on other tables' fish and chips and fried shrimp - huge portions both. Promising. Poutine was excellent disco fries. Cheese too melty, gravy too light for Quebecois, but who am I to judge? Delicious gravy for sure. My friend loved his haddock Reuben, with the fish taking up the entire sandwich. Sandwiches aren't the biggest compared to the dinner plates, which doesn't surprise me and is why I ordered the poutine. But very tasty. I had read on a gf site that Docks had perfected its coating on the fried food and its gf so I had to try it. Boy, am I happy I did. My husband had the haddock bites which he said were not greasy at all and he would never know it was gf. I had a pint of fried clams. I was really wanting to try the fried chicken as well, so I ordered the kids plate which came with salt and vinegar fries. I was so happy, I thought I was going to cry. I have not had my favorite fried foods in years and this tasted as delicious as I remembered. To top it off they also had Orange Bike Brewing gf beer. There is a nice little patio, but we opted for inside because of the heat. I had an excellent lobster roll, lightly dressed with mayo. I went with the single lobster and a side of potato salad. Also,there is an unsung hero on their menu... You must try the vinegar and salt french fries. You wouldn't think a seafood joint would have great fries but these are absolutely fantastic fresh cut fries with a dash of malt vinegar. There were two tiny, hamburger size, styrofoam containers with approximately 7 or 8 small clams in each. They didn't even begin to fill the containers. We had the Lobster rolls and a cup of Clam Chowder. The Clam Chowder was great. Very tasty! The Lobster rolls were so-so. They were supposed to be warm, but the middle of the meat was cold. They flavor was ok. The fries will cost you $1 extra. When we got our bill there was a charge for "kitchen fair wage" fee of $2.78. We asked the server what that was for and she said since the kitchen workers really work hard that was to help them out. What?!?!? I asked her why this wasn't disclosed earlier. She said she thought it was on the menu but wasn't sure. I can't believe a business would run such a scam. I just paid $66 for two Lobster Rolls and you're going to put it to me at a 3% extra charge because you don't pay your workers enough? This has to be the biggest scam I've ever seen. Avoid this place unless you want to be ripped off! We went to Lobster Shack first, but the line was too long, so we tried Docks. We were driving around South Portland we were looking for a place for lunch that also had something our picky Paige would eat. So many places were closed and they said this place sounded good. As soon as I opened the door I had deja vu. I've been here! I actually came up to Maine for a work trip years ago and fondly remember Docks Seafood. Cynthia took great care of us and even gave us pointers for local beaches and attractions to visit. I had the lobster roll, brimming with fresh meat. Among the best I have had. I adored the salt and vinegar fries. And the fries were thick delicious. Got a pick 3, haddock nuggets, scallops and clams. When I first got my platter I thought it was only a pick two due to size. They were generous with the clams, however the scallops I got 3 pieces, and 6 total haddock nuggets. And the fish was not fresh. A few tasted off to be honest. My scallops were not drained well as they were sitting in a tiny pool of oil with no where to go because they use parchment for a liner. And they were very skimpy on the tartar sauce. My friends and I tried this place in Portland a few weeks ago. The place was half market/half restaurant. It was a little bit of a wait but we were seated within 5 minutes. We tried the grilled swordfish, fisherman's platter, and haddock rueben. The fisherman's platter was a great deal. With the platter, the restaurant allowed you to choose from four types of seafood for $29: clam cakes, clam strips, haddock nuggets, whole belly clams, scallops, shrimp, oysters, and calamari. We got the whole belly clams, scallops and oysters(double), and all were crispy and delicious. The fries were also good as well. They were crispy outside but soft inside. The haddock reuben was also superb. The sandwich consisted of fried haddock with swiss cheese, cole slaw, and thousand island dressing on toasted rye bread. It was so good! The grilled swordfish came with a baked potato. Although I didn't try it, my friends said it was delicious. Kids under 12 also ate for free on Saturdays and Sundays from the Value Meal list of entrees. Service was very friendly and attentive. This is a must visit if you are ever around Portland! read more

I love coming to docks seafood it has great outdoor dining and decent food. Prices definitely have gone up in the past year or so. The haddock sandwich and fish/shrimp tacos are great choices. We ordered the swordfish risotto that was the recent special and for 30$ I have to say it was a disappointment. The rice was undercooked and the corn in the risotto was an interesting combination. I took my Aunt there for her 85Th birthday. It was so could inside. The food and us cooled off immediately. It was extremely hard to hear in there. We couldn't even carry on a conversation. They had one waitress that was doing everything so she couldn't give good service. Our bill came to over $85. We only had soda to drink. We had seafood Alfredo. There was no Alfredo! The lobster was a couple of knuckle pieces. Had three scollops, two of mine were raw in the middle. There were a fair amount of shrimp. The salad was served after the meal was brought. The meal was so dry because there wasn't any Alfredo sauce. It was called seafood Alfredo on the menu. Big ugh, when we walked in, they were announcing that their fryer was broken, so there would be no fried foods for any of us. Being the flexible diners that we are, my husband and I decided to stay. We ordered: clam chowder-Super excellent, a stand out Blackened haddock quesadilla-Delicious, fresh and HUGE Baked Haddock-Big, fresh piece of haddock that came with; A side salad-Unexpectedly fantastic, home made blue cheese dressing and A baked potato with butter and sour cream-YES!!! Docks wasn't even on my radar (since most of my research on places to eat were in Downtown Portland) until my friends told me about it. They've been here a few times over the past few years and raved about the twin lobster dinner and what a great deal it was. And they were not wrong. My fiance and I came in for a late late lunch/early early dinner on a Tuesday at around 4. There were only a few people there at a time since it's an odd time to eat. Both indoor and outdoor dining are available but we opted to sit outside. You place your order inside, grab a table, they'll announce your name over the PA system, and then you go pick up your order. It does take a bit for the food to come out (about 20 minutes) because it's made to order. This is everything we ate: Twin lobster dinner - this is market price, so it'll vary but when we went at the beginning of September, it was $24.99 and comes with a side (french fries, baked potato, or corn). The lobster wasn't that meaty at this time (lots of water inside) but $25 for two lobster?! You really can't complain. It comes with plenty of melted butter for dipping Crab roll - this was only okay. It did come with a lot of crab, which I appreciated but it was missing something. Maybe salt? It definitely needed some kind of seasoning Lobster quesadilla - this was my fiance's fave. Lobster and melted cheddar? What's not to love. It's pretty heavy though so I would recommend getting it as something to share. But it's considered a lunch plate, so this also comes with a side. We chose corn as one of the sides, which tasted like it was overcooked from frozen, so you're better off going for the carbs and getting the baked potato or the fries Lobster bisque - this was really good. Flavorful and even though it was a bisque, it didn't seem too heavy. (pro-tip: dip the lobster quesadilla in here) Corn and crab chowder - I love corn chowders so I was very excited since this one had crab in it too. Unfortunately, there was not much crab flavor and just a lot of potatoes in there My only regret is not trying the lobster roll because I'm sure that would have been amazing. But at the point, we had been in Maine for a few days and had a good amount of lobster rolls already, and there were so many other menu items we wanted to try instead. Ok so we were looking for a seafood place that will deliver and make some delicious and tasty items for us to partake in and we were not disappointment. I had the three choice platter with fries with whole belly clams, scallops and shrimp and it only cost a fraction of other places especially when you order whole belly clams and scallops (other places charge an extra three or four dollars per item) The wife and kiddo had the haddock fish sandwich and it was fantastic with compliments coming from the tarter sauce and the cole slaw. After being driven from south Portland to Scarborough it was still hot and fresh. We are so pleasantly surprised seeing as to how we are loyalist of where we like to go for seafood. Visited Docks Seafood for lunch today. The restaurant also has a market for fresh seafood. The dining area was clean and welcoming. The hostess was very pleasant and seated us immediately. I ordered fried scallops with fries. My scallops were cooked perfectly - absolutely delicious! The fries could have used a bit more seasoning, but were still good. The service was also excellent. The only downside was that the parking lot is on a very busy corner. It was close to impossible to get out of the parking lot safely due to the heavy street traffic.
