Luckily, our friend is a fish connoisseur so she was able to find this good deal! The 3 fillets are $80 worth. We ate half that same night with some uni from another place.

SOOOOO. CONVENIENT!!! SOOOOOOO PROFESSIONAL!!!! BEST SERVICE EVER!!!…read more 100% Recommend!!! I asked a ton of people for recommendations and Harbor Fish Market was hands down the #1 recommendation. It's apparently the go-to-spot for all your fresh seafood needs... for all locals and tourists in and around Portland, ME. It's located in the middle of the busy downtown waterfront district. They have dedicated parking spots for customers. I called while driving from Brunswick to the airport... asked to have 6 "heavy" live lobsters boxed up for travel as carry-on for my flight. The call lasted about 4 minutes... I arrived about 30 min later... walked in... box was waiting for me and I walked out to my car parked directly in front of the door. WOWOWOW!!! If I had more time or lived locally I would be there weekly to pick up some fresh seafood... there were so many options and the place was super clean and everything looked fresh. They also have an easy to use website to order local pickup or if you need something shipped to you. I flew my buddy's home with me... everyone from the TSA to Flight attendants knew exactly what was in the box and only concern was if I wanted to give them one of my "lobstas" ... my family had a delicious lobster feast that evening. https://harborfish.com

The fish quality is sooo good and the salmon set had so much fish in it. I was so full at the end but I wanted to keep eating. The squid and scallop are both incredibly soft and flavorful. Each bite blew my mind! I had soo much difficulty locating where the entrance was and where we could buy food (although that is mostly due to my poor sense of direction). But the place to purchase is right when you enter, the door to your right. You then walk up the stairs and turn into the cafeteria.

The uni prices & freshness though are UNMATCHED. A tray of uni for $28 is a crazy deal; prices are even better for a POUND of broken uni. They source from different places depending on the season. March seems to be the last of Maine uni season; we had New Brunswick uni in April. I'd skip the sashimi sets - it was underwhelming for $15 each. The squid, salmon, and ikura were fine; tuna was a bit fishy. Scallops are usually my favorite, but they were just okay here. The uni is excellent. Insant rice & miso soup are available for purchase for $3 each. The staff canteen has sushi vinegar & all the fixings. Parking is available outside.

Art on the wall was done from the bartender's photography. Truly a wonderful atmosphere. The small bar manages to feature a variety of local beers to try, from light to dark, so I warmed myself with a delicious oatmeal stout on this frigid New Year evening. After some waffling, I went with my comfort foods: poutine and lobster roll. While we waited for the appetizers, I spied on other tables' fish and chips and fried shrimp - huge portions both. Promising. Poutine was excellent disco fries. Cheese too melty, gravy too light for Quebecois, but who am I to judge? Delicious gravy for sure. My friend loved his haddock Reuben, with the fish taking up the entire sandwich. Sandwiches aren't the biggest compared to the dinner plates, which doesn't surprise me and is why I ordered the poutine. But very tasty. I dessertws with a few fresh oysters just to top off my holiday experience. Verdict: I have found a return spot in Portland.

I ordered the fish and chips: straight from the fryer, nicely crisp, and clearly fresh fish. The fries were the real star--golden, crunchy, and blessedly not soggy. My only note? A touch of salt in the batter would've gone a long way and really lifted the flavor of the fish. Second visit (dinner), same order... very different experience. This time everything landed on the bland side--even the tartar sauce, which is usually the safety net. My guess? Different cook for the dinner crowd. All that said, it wasn't terrible--just inconsistent. There's definite potential here, and when it's good, it's good. I'd happily give it another shot... preferably at lunchtime.
