I've been coming to Peppermill for the last 20+ years and it never disappoints. Their cheesesteaks, cheese fries, and milkshakes are the BEST. Try the spicy chicken cordon bleu cheesesteak - it's insane. The rolls are A+. The only annoying thing is that they're cash only, but I really can't blame them for that! read more

Great cheesesteaks! I took some on my friends who were visiting to The Pepper Mill. I think they wanted to eat cheesesteaks from a place with some guy's name (Jim, Pat, or Joe) in from of it. They were previously informed that in order to get a good cheesesteak the person taking the order would be rude. No... no... no. We saved a trip into Philly, drove to West Chester, parked in the lot in front of the restaurant, were treated with respect and enjoyed cheesesteaks. What happened to this place? I've been a customer for 27 years...27! Look at my last review. This place had a cheesesteak so solid you could set a clock to it. Other food was always good as well. The last 2-3 times I've gone have been bad though. First off, it's dirty, grimy, and just dingy everywhere. The bathrooms look like they belong in a rest stop. Service from the lone waitress was very good, but the pack of loud teenage boys running the kitchen created a dumpster-fire of a dinner for us. We all got cheesesteaks and fries. Fries were undercooked and hard on the inside. Wife's steak came out wrong, and had to be sent back. But there real problem was my cheesesteak; it came out barely room temp, and the cheese was already hardening again. I ate about a third of one half before I sent it back. A couple minutes later she came back with a "new" half a cheesesteak. This one was just as barely lukewarm, and was clearly either the same steak, or they grabbed one that was sitting around. No way in hell it was a freshly cooked cheesesteak. And not sure why they would send out only a half when I only had eaten a third of one half of it. Waitress offered to take fries off the bill, but never did. The teen kids in the kitchen were goofing off the whole time, clearly not taking the cooking seriously. NEVER ORDER FROM HERE ! waiting an 1 hr and 40 mins for a pizza. (I live less than 5 miles away. no communication the pizza would be late. I am envious of all the people who got 'awesome' cheesesteaks here. I have lived in the area my whole life and had never been to eat here but heard lots of good things. My husband and I were starving and I have been craving a cheesesteak for at least a week. I ordered the cheesesteak on the menu that, in the description said, "Voted Best Cheesesteak in Chester County," for $7.95 and my husband went with the Premium cheesesteak for $2 more. After a 10 minute drive home, the sandwiches were barely warm and I was SERIOUSLY disappointed. My cheesesteak had NO CHEESE, and barely any meat. Sad to say the least. The premium did have cheese and my husband was kind enough to share his half with me but honestly, I have had better cheesesteaks from Wawa. Sorry guys, never again. read more

Pizza was ok cheap cheese. I ordered pepperoni on on it. I called back that night & the manager didn't seem to care or give me a free pizza or nothing to that aspect. When I picked up the cashier was friendly. I hadn't had it in 10 plus years cause moved half hour away. I didn't realize it didn't had pepperoni until I got to Bellingham to visit my grandma. Used to come here as a kid, my friend from high school used to work here, didn't have very good things to say about the cleanliness of the place, in fact he said it was the dirtiest place he's ever worked in and to never go there. Hit or miss. Often get order wrong. If you are told 45 minutes for delivery, count on at least an hour and a half. I'm torn because sometimes the food is great,sometimes not. Filthy, filthy, filthy. Everything is sticky. Menus were stuck together. There was food all over the floor. We addressed this with our waitress, and she was aggressively disinterested. I went this past weekend and ordered a simple burger and fries. The burger was burnt. Our waitress was fast and polite, which is why it earned more than 1 star. The dining area is much too cramped with outdated seating and crooked tables. The prices are way too expensive for the mediocre food. Even if my food was prepared correctly, it was still at least 40% too expensive. This place is cash only. Please join the 21st century. read more

There's nothing special about this place at all, it's essentially overpriced pizza-shop food for outrageous prices. A meal for two- consisting of soft drinks, appetizer, and platters will end up costing you like $50 after the tip. That's insanity! Just go to a pizza shop for 1/3 the price! read more

As always, the cheesesteaks are consistently good. Really bad marks for cleanliness and ambiance. Bathrooms are dirty, dusty with cobwebs everywhere. I can honestly say that not a single thing has changed in this place since I was 9 years old. I'm 43 now!!! Even the jars on the shelves, the wallpaper, the booths/tables, fixtures and decor are exactly the same...this would be fine except I don't think they've cleaned it in 30+ years either. As a Chesco resident, I've been eating at the Pepper Mill since the early nineties. What once was a can't miss spot and home to some killer cheese steaks has now become a bit of a let down. The quality of the food just isn't as good, the staff can be cranky at times, and the fact that they are still cash only is silly. I've also noticed that it's gotten dirtier in recent years inside. Could use some serious sprucing up - the whole "the same place you've always known" charm just doesn't cut it anymore. read more

Well, I know as I write this I am the minority. That being said, if you don't mind FILTH--then, "go for it". I ate here 10/9/11 after not having eaten there in probably 2 years. The dining room was disgusting. The chairs have about 20 years of grease and filth on them. The floor was filthy as was the bathroom. The place just skeeved me BIGTIME and I'm not a cleanliness phenatic. The pizza was very flimsy and soggy. I thought it may have just been ours but as I looked at other tables' pizza, there's were the same. I'm good for not returning here, ever. read more

Once upon a time this used to be the best place in the area for cheesesteaks, hoagies and pizza. That has changed a lot in recent years while the quality has gone down, the portions have gotten smaller and the prices have gone up. And after all these years they still will not give you your check so you can look it over or pay the waitress like a normal restaurant, you do not get to look at your check until you have stood in line to pay at the register. Food was good and our waitress was great but the place was just really dirty. The drop ceiling panels looked their had been some water damage and not replaced. The ceiling light wallking out the back was full of dead flies and the bathroom needed a hosedown. It is what it is, but could be so much better. read more

Been eating at this place for well over 20 years. Pizza comes a dime a dozen, Neopolitan style pizza everywhere which is a favorite of many. Travel from one town to the next in the area, and you will find some delicious greasy greek pizza in every town. Pepper Mill has a very unique pizza, I havent found any other like it anywhere. The crust is like a fresh baked Italian bread, which is complimented by a mildly tangy sauce, and a generous portion of cheese. This old grey mare just ain't what she used to be. Prices have gone up, quality has gone down. Pepper Mill was a long time favorite of ours, but now it costs roughly the same as a much nicer dinner, so usually we opt for better quality for our $. Their broccoli poppers can't be found elsewhere though, so I still pick them up from time to time. The last few cheesesteaks we've gotten have been greasy and to light on the meat and cheese. The pepper Mill is a CHESTER County institution. I have been a customer for nearly 30 years. However, this once fine institution is nothing but a disappointment. It seems that, in the last 3-4 years, the food quality is inconsistent and the counter staff has become less and less attentive when taking an order, and the place is in desperate need of a good cleaning. I have found myself swearing off of this place at least once a year due to poor food quality and botched orders. Since it is close and convenient, I make the decision to give it a try and hope for redemption. Disappointment again. As I stood there waiting for my botched order the other day, I found myself commiserating with several other customers who shared the same sentiment. I have spoken with several managers over the years, only to revive an insincere apology. At this time I will, again, swear off hopefully for good. My only recourse, I feel, is to share this with others in hopes that loss of customers will wake someone up and help to restore this once fine institution. read more

Last night our take out cheesesteak order was pathetic. There was very little meat in the cheesesteaks. They were all the same. Half of my sandwich hardly any meat in it at all. Still trying to find a decent cheesesteak in chester county! I dont think I ever will. I heard a lot about this place peppermill, and thought I should give it a shot. They dont deliver if you live in the borough of West Chester which is less than 4 miles from their door. (really?) Unlike the site says, they dont take credit cards so bring cash. I ordered a cheesteak and didnt finish it. The roll was very good, top notch, and they are generous with the cheese, the meat however was stringy and bland and the good roll and cheese didnt make up for it for me. I've been going to Pepper Mill for years and rate it high as a neighborhood pizza shop. I love many of the items on the menu. I stop by often on Sunday Mornings for breakfast as well. The Cheesesteaks are a true Philly Cheesesteak and rank high as one of the better in the area. I love the fries and enjoy the pizza. Regular readers will recognize my frustrations with Cash only establishments. This is one of them. I would also recommend a little reinvestment into the building by the owners but may be the fact that it doesn't change keeps it feeling so comfortable. read more
