Cruising with family in Makiki and we were recommended to have lunch here. First off, since this joint is on Wilder Ave., on a bus line, schools are near by and a church is across the street, it's always busy. Fortunately we were in between the lunch and after school rush so no one was in there and we got served immediately. While we were there for a total of about 40 minutes, I counted the establishment being wiped down three times. Of course this is amidst the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic but I appreciated the vigilance and was told they normally wipe surfaces regularly as a standard practice. Parking is a one way from Wilder and the lot is shared with a liquor store, Pizza Hut and other small businesses like Paula's Sports Cards Etc. The stalls up front are kinda squishy but the ones in back by Pizza Hut can be a but more spacious. Now for the food, the ban chan was amazing. The kimchee cucumber was so good! It's usually not my favourite since most places make it gummy or it's either too salty or spicy. This place has a perfect recipe for it. The choi sum, jap chae and seaweed were also perfectly balanced. They off set the salt from the meats. Speaking of the meats! We got the Peppa Special since it was our first time there and wanted to get a lay of the menu. The teri beef was oh mah goodness tender with the perfect balance of ginger, garlic, shoyu, vinegar. It was so beautiful. 10/10 recommend. Kal-bi was fatty, deliciousness. The bbq chicken was okay but kinda dry so, we'll probably skip that next time. read more

I have to admit that I especially love this Peppa's because they are so close to where I live. When I'm craving Korean food i just give them a call and walk over. However, even if you have to drive over this location is located in the Makiki Shopping Center and there is plenty of parking available. If there is the rare chance that no parking is available just wait a few minutes and someone is leaving. So on my last visit I noticed the cuts of meat were smaller even though the prices were the same. This pandemic is hitting everyone hard and I know we're all just trying to survive so I'm understanding. There was still plenty of food for leftovers! I really love their banchans (side dishes) there are plenty of options and I've never been disappointed! read more

This is a Korean restaurant located in the Makiki area. I live near here, and I'm a bit indebted to them. The store is located right by the entrance of the parking lot in the Makiki Shopping Village! There is an eat-in area inside the restaurant, but I think most of the customers tend to take out. I love the BBQ here! The kalbi, chicken and pork are seasoned in the Korean style, and the flavors are sweet, spicy and deep. It's addictive. If you order the main menu, you can pick up a few side dishes. I recommend the kimchi, seasoned bean sprouts, boiled bok choy and cucumber kimchi! In addition to BBQ, I also recommend Bibin Nengmyun. The noodles with sour and spicy sauce are spicy, but it's a nice aftertaste. These noodles are perfect for Hawaii, where it's going to get hotter and hotter! read more

Peppa's has been my husband and I's favorite takeout spot for the past several years. We consistently come back because their food is just the best. I always get the meat jun and my husband likes to switch it up between the meat jun and the Kalbi. The sides are amazing, it's always hard to select just four! My husband likes to get his with no rice and then he gets 5 sides. You can even select brown rice if you want! So the food is great, the service is straightforward with no bedside manners. I've been going there for years 10+. Until today. Today, I paid with my card, and there was no option to leave a tip. So I figured I'll catch them next time. As I'm walking out the door, the worker tells the other worker, "No tip.", and she said it twice. So I turned around and went back into the restaurant and confronted her about the tip remark. I had a large bill, so I told her if she could break this so I could leave a tip. It was more than I would have normally given, but I was sad at this experience, making it to be my last time going there. Anytime I need a default Korean plate lunch near home this is where I go. Peppa's has held me down for years. The yukgae jang (ask for it spicy) was my hangover remedy when I could only muster up just enough strength to walk down the block and back home. Some of my other favorites are the Meat Jun plate (my only issue is that they don't cut it but it's an easy fix) , Kalbi plate, or the hamburger steak. All are solid options and I always get the 4 pc mandoo that's offered for a small additional price. Portions are large & easily can make two meals out of one plate. But if you one hammah you might be able to pound the whole thing in one sitting. All the sides that are offered do the job. I've tried all of them at some point but my favorites are the chop chae, cucumber kimchee, seaweed, mac salad, or one of the potato choices ( shoyu or Mayo). If you go around Pau Hana time be prepared to wait for your order as there's a lot of people looking for an easy & cheap dinner for themselves or the whole family. My advice would be to call in your order in advance. You can choose your sides over the phone or in person when you get there. So if you're in the neighborhood hungry & on a budget give them a try. FIrst time eating here last night. I got the BBQ chicken and meat jhun combo plate to share with someone. COme with 2 chicken thighs and 3 pcs jhun. That and the ban chan and 2 scoops rice can make at least 2 people happy. :) Quality is average. I don't find that fast food places can wow me very much and this place is no exception. There's no dine in and they have tall plastic barriers to separate the customers from the counter. The guy behind the counter seemed kinda gruff. Musta been the owner. I don't blame him. The area can be sketchy at night. A woman was in the store and was fumbling around for something in he backpack. The person I was with was going to try and help her but I told her "no." Sure enough, the owner dude must have know something was up. He told her to leave if she's not going to order food and she cannot loiter in the store. She was still fumbling around in her backpack ten minutes later when we left... Good for a quick bite. Price was decent (~$16 for a combo plate with tax) but not cheap. read more

"Four choices?". Alright, I'll have long rice, kim chee, potato mac and choi sum (or tamago, if get). A couple of my go-to plates here are Spicy Pork and Loco Moco. Though the Spicy Pork does not meet my standard of spiciness, it's still flavorful. A regular plate comes with 3 pieces of broiled pork, two scoops of rice and four sides. All that for a little over $12. I usually eat half and save the rest for later. So I'm paying about $6/meal. The regular plates are pretty generous! The Loco Moco has two juicy, hefty, broiled beef patties served on a bed of rice with eggs and smothered with brown gravy! Those patties are consistently done right, it's what you'd expect from a 4-yelp-star restaurant. Kudos to the cooks in the back. The tasty gravy is on a creamy side and I think it's way better. Food is good, however it is expensive and they are very cheap with utensils and sauce!! I spent $60 on 3 plates of food and they would not give me more than 4 forks!! I've been to this Peppa's like only once or twice............I use to always go to the Peppa's that was right next door to the Zippy's (Makiki Branch), until they had closed. :( Of course, when I do go to a Peppa's, I always take the value meal............for $9.59 you get your choice of meat (I like BBQ Chicken), & two sides, + 4 Mandoo, and a medium size drink. A pretty good deal I tell you! I must say, from one Peppa's to another............and I'm talking about the Peppa's in the Manoa Market Place, this Peppa's in Makiki, or the Peppa's that had closed down by the Zippy's...........they all the same! You know what you're gonna get............food is pretty consistent, and they give a lot of it! If you order a regular plate............they give so much food, you can probably feed two or three people! Yesterday, I had ordered the BBQ Chicken...........I like how they marinade the BBQ chicken.........and to me, it tastes a lot better than Kim Chee III, as they don't burn the chicken. Parking at the Makiki Shopping Village can be hard at times............there are a lot of other business here, so the customers have to compete for parking, as the parking is limited. If you come here at the wrong time, sometimes the lot is full...........so basically you will be out of luck. I go here all the time! The food is delicious, consistent, and price is right for the amount of food you get. I have tried everything: BBQ beef, chicken, kalbi, meat jun, fish jun, seaweed soup, tofu soup, chicken katsu, and hoki plate (which is fish katsu). If you're a small eater, you can split one plate and eat twice. For family of four, you can order 3 regular plates and be good. I like this Korean BBQ place because they make the food fast, and all the side vegetable dishes are fresh. The service is good too, its very easy to order and never had any issues. I would say the only area of improvement that could be done is their kimchee is kinda bland. Everything else its pretty awesome. Where I'm from most Korean restaurants are sit down, family style places. Even when I lived in Seoul there weren't really too many options for takeout style Korean food. So it's refreshing to be able to get Korean food quick and easy sometimes, and Peppa's definitely hit the spot for me. I ordered the kalbi plate which came with rice, and my choice of two small sides. I chose japchae (which I prefer hot but this was cold style, oh well), and their Mac salad which was freaking delicious. The kalbi was cooked well, with a great tasting marinade. My only complaint about the food is that the kalbi is bone-in and doesn't come cut. This is a personal preference but it's a major pain for me to get this giant slab of beef that's hard to cut with a plastic knife. I wish they would take a pair of meat scissors to it, but like I said that's just a personal preference. I just dislike messy eating. read more

This is a great place for a casual get together with friends and family. During my college years, my senior project team and I would stay late and take out almost every other week. While the price might not be the cheapest, the food is good and the portions are huge. Regular portion can be split between two people and the minis are usually more than enough! Last night I got the tofu stew (zucchini, carrots, onion, tofu, in a lightly spicy broth). Nice and flavorful. Hit the spot, since I was craving soup. Definitely would recommend ordering it in the takeout container (even if dining in), since they charge an extra 25 cents if you ask for the container after ordering. Pretty standard local korean bbq fare, but that's how I like it! They have plates of a bunch of different combinations of meats, so chances are you'll be able to get both of your favorites (mean jun and bbq chicken for me!). They also have a good selection of sides that never change-- my favorites are the long rice, seaweed, and potato salad. Also, great for catering! We were having some people over but not enough to justify getting their catering portions. Instead, we asked for 10 of the exact same combo plates and we asked for the items to be packed separately (like all the rice in one container, all the chicken in another, etc).
