This was my first time patronizing this location. I purchased a new battery for my S10 pickup today from Pep Boys. This location is convenient for me since it is a very short distance away. I reserved a time and the battery on line first and also benefited from having a 25% coupon from the on line website. The staff and manager did a great job in service recovery in that the website got my reservation set up under another phone number and mistake but it worked out okay. They installed the battery as well. I was in and out of there in less than an hour and my truck runs great! I will consider using them again for other auto needs since they are friendly and close. read more

I decided to get out of my comfort zone and take my car somewhere else that was not the Toyota dealer and get four new tires and a rotation. I'm very glad I did! The price was reasonable for the four tires and they did such a good job on the alignment that my car feels like how it did when it was brand new. While traveling out of town we got a flat tire. We called to see if they were still open, they said yes for another hour. We arrived within 10 minutes. They refused to sell us a tire because they said they will be closing, even though we said we just called and spoke to you and said we were coming in. They still denied us a tire. Had other cars brakes checked. They were pretty busy today which is good to know. We had to wait a bit longer because they diagnosed the brakes to find 1/4 remaining. Turns out we had to wait a bit longer, since we agreed to have the brakes done on the same day. Beto, the manager was kind enough and went out of his way to drive us home considering his busy schedule. This is excellent customer service and not many people go out of their way to help others out. Their waiting area is extremely clean with keurig coffee, and refillable water filtered station. My car was overheating on the freeway so I drove to the nearest mechanic shop, which happened to be this Pep Boys location. First, they charged $40 just to diagnosis the problem. This is the first time I've had to pay for a diagnosis, but what the hell, I was desperate and needed to get my car fixed. So even though it didn't feel right, I paid. I picked up the car the next day. They put in a new radiator and thermostat and all new hoses. It cost some serious money but I figured I had to get the car fixed so I paid it and thought, good, my car is fixed. The next day I drove to Costco and when I parked I could see white smoke coming out of the hood. This was the same symptom as before. I did my shopping came back and watched the temperature go way above what was normal and figured I couldn't drive it. This time I had it towed to a mechanic I knew I could trust and who was now much closer than when i was in Tujunga. He looked at and said PepBoys forgot to put the clamp on the hose that connected to the thermostat so when there was pressure, the hose popped off. But after further inspection, they said they never connected the bottom two fans. These guys essentially put in new parts and didn't connect them correctly. My mechanic I think felt sorry for me and didn't charge for the work, since i'm a regular customer. but it just goes to show this is one really, really bad shop. I look at all the positive reviews here and I am very suspicious. I know companies pay for positive reviews and I have to wonder about these here, because my experience was off the charts bad. all I can say is by the name of everything holy and true, go to any car shop other than this Pep Boys. read more

Terrible customer service from the woman and Assistant Store Manager who works here. I ordered wiper blades, and they lost part of my order and couldn't explain to me what happened. Literally clueless. The woman was the worst part. Just rude and clueless about her job. Authorized my card to be charged and I never received my order. How does that make sense? His quote was $35 dollars more expensive per tire. I showed him the print out from the Pep Boys website. He asked where did I get the price. The printout shows the price and store phone number. I was having trouble starting my Bronco intermittently and it was also intermittently stalling out when I managed to start it and drive it. I took it to Pep Boys on Foothill Blvd in Tujunga. They said it was the in-tank fuel pump and charged me almost $1000 to replace it. I thought that was high, but I was happy to get the car back. The car seemed to run fine for a few days, but within a week or so, it was doing the same thing and I couldn't start it at all. I had to get a tow truck to tow my car back to Pep Boys, and they assured me not to worry, that they would back up their work and take care of me. They had the car for a week. They said that they replaced the throttle body, but curiously they didn't give me a bill for the additional parts and labor. When I got the car home and checked, there were no new parts and the throttle body was the same one I always had. I was away over the next couple of weeks and didn't drive the car much, but when I returned, the car was acting up again. The car stalled on the side of the road and wouldn't start. Eventually it started but when I was on the 210 it started hesitating and stalling. I drove it straight back to Pep Boys and they said, "don't worry, we'll take care of you." This time they had it for over a week. They said that the problem was the fuel pump that they installed was a defective part. The car worked well for a week and a half or so, but then started exhibiting the same symptoms. It would throw a code, but the check engine light would clear by itself. I took it straight back to Pep Boys and they said they should be able to read the code even without the light on. They had the car for over a week again and told me to pick it up that it was running fine. They said they couldn't find anything wrong with it, even though it threw a code. I didn't even get a mile from Pep Boys when it died again. I called and they refused to take it back saying that they "don't know how to fix it." I said that if they couldn't fix it, they should refund my money. They said that only "Beto" was authorized to do that, and Beto was unavailable. He was supposed to call the next day, he never did. The next few weeks were spent leaving tons of messages for Beto and stopping in at Pep Boys to try to peruse the authorization from Beto for my refund, but Beto was never available and refused to even return my calls. I finally had to do a charge back on my credit card. I will never go back, but I also learned that AAMCO is owned by Pep Boys. I was about to bring my Corvette to AAMCO for a new transmission, but I won't be doing any business with a company who rips me off and treats me this way. PS, when I called Autozone and O'Rileys just to find out how much the part was, they said it was $68 or if I wanted the complete assembly it was $144. I understand the labor because I have replaced a gas tank on my old Bronco and had to install a fuel pump in the new tank. You have to drain the gas and drop the tank and all, but $800+ in labor and they "couldn't fix it?" Only one word describes this: "RIP-OFF!" Beto is incompetent as a manager. If some of their mechanics are decent, a manager like Beto makes the entire company look bad. read more

Pep boys has been my go-to shop for a long time now. Any time I run into a problem I go to them immediately. The manager Beto is great, really good guy who wants to make sure customers are satisfied at a very good price. There's no reason for me to go to other shops when I can go to pep boys and pay usually less than half of what they charge. These guys do quality work and will go out of their way to keep your car in good condition. I am rather attached to my car and want to keep it for a long time so take my word when I say pep boys is the best place to go if you want to keep your car running well and without killing your wallet. They have free wifi, a big screen tv and comfortable seats in the waiting area plus free coffee, water and a soda machine. I am very pleased to have this good shop right by where I live, thanks Beto and all the crew for keeping my car running good as new! read more

I just have to say I was very disappointed. Not in the actual alignment that I took my car there for, but for the service. I had my son drop my car off early afternoon for a four wheel alignment. I spoke with Beto around 6:45pm stating I was stuck in traffic and could not get there by closing. He assured me it was no problem and that they opened at 7am. I told him I would be there at 7am the next morning. I was dropped off at 7am to find the store closed and a single employee waiting to get in as well. After waiting 15 minutes, the employee stated that he had spoken with the person who was to open. He had been stopped by the police on the way to work but would be there soon. Great. We waited together until 7:45 when he finally arrived. It was a fluke, things happen. What happened next is what really upset me....mildly at first, but in the past 24 hours I have been thinking about it a lot. The "manager"? pulled up, got out of his car....walked right past me....opened up and started turning on his office machines. Cool. I followed.....in the next 15 minutes, there was NO, "I am sorry for you having to wait"....no behavior as to trying to make me "feel" like I was an important customer. NOTHING! I tried to start a conversation to get some kind of response from him....NOTHING! Although he did speak with his employee in Spanish....as THE EMPLOYEE was busily trying to open up the garage and get my car ready. After I had paid, I asked him if he was "Beto", since I had talked with him the day before. He chuckled and laughed (wow, an actual response) and said his name was Milton. I played it cool the whole time, I know things happen. No big deal. But you would at least think if this guy had the keys to open the business, that he had some kind of customer service training! Carlos Delgudo and Manuel Darian were my La-La Land Angels! Last weekend I was driving from San Diego to Berkeley. Saturday morning I went to a Pep Boys in Encinitas and Grant the front desk guy was a delight. My battery had died and after my pal jumped me I was able to get to the shop right when it opened. I left Encinitas for the next leg of my trip LA Baby. After a fun day with friends in Montrose, they walked me to my car and it was dead...Again! We tried to jump it. The first AAA guy tried to jump it. The second AAA guy who came with a tow truck tried to get it to start, nothing. So At midnight, we left it in the Pep Boys parking lot in Tujunga. Once again when they opened at 9 am, the second day in a row, I was at a Pep Boys. Carlos the manager came out to speak to me next to my dead car as soon as he unlocked the front doors. He assured me that he would squeeze me into his busy Sunday schedule, his mechanic would do a diagnosis of the problem, and we would figure out how to proceed from there. Needless to say, by this point I was worried, sleep deprived, and had to step up the faith that all was in Divine Order. Carlos had no idea of the financial straights I was facing if there was a problem. He just new I needed help and wanted to provide that help. My friend had to go to work so I took my laptop and my Starbucks and settled into their cool waiting area. The flat screen TV, leather chairs, additional coffee if I wanted it, was comfort. I did not know if I would be able to get to Berkeley to start a new job the next day. I have lived 'on a wing and prayer' as they say for some time. I had no problem plunking the $176 down Sat AM for a brand new battery, but I had no idea how my $200 that was left in my checking account (no I do not have credit cards), was going to cover the problem with my car and the gas I needed to get to the Bay Area. Manuel came to chat with me able my Sebring's Saga. He assured me that he would figure it out. After just short of a hour, Carlos came to tell me the car was working fine. A fuse had blown and he was going to take the 'hit' so there would be no cost to me. OMG as we say these days! Once again my faith, listening to my intuition, trusting that the experts and my friends would help, and not getting angry at Pep Boys got me going forward. Though I did not have to pay for the fuse and Manuel's time, I promised that I would give them a 5 Star review on Yelp and Google because, darn it, they were my miracle last Sunday. I purchased a battery from the Burbank store in June, 2020. The guys there installed the kind of battery they said my car required. Well, fast forward ONE YEAR, and the battery they sold me was DOA. Still under warranty, I went to the local (Tujunga) store to get it replaced. After some haggling over the warranty (Not horrible, just a bit of confusion) They replaced the battery, and only charged me for installation. Now, Fast forward to ONE YEAR later, and once again, the "new" battery is DOA, requiring a jump to get it started, if I wait longer than 4-5 hours between start ups. (Thankfully my Wife has one of this Emergency Jump Start packs). So yesterday (Saturday) I called the Tujunga store and inquired about getting it replaced. The Lady I spoke with was friendly, but said they were slammed, and after checking with presumably her Manager, said if I brought it in Sunday morning, they'd be able to help me out. So, this morning I headed over there. Of course, the Lady I spoke with wasn't there, nor was the store Manager. After waiting in a line of other "customers" (trust me, I can pretty much guarantee nearly every one of them I saw will likely NEVER be back at Pep Boys, not a bunch of happy people) I finally got to talk to the young guy at the counter. He of course told me he couldn't help me with the warranty situation without the manager's approval, and that he was unable to contact the manager. He did suggest leaving my car there, and that they'd get to it MAYBE by Monday afternoon, but that my particular brand of battery, Champion (what a horrible name for a truly horrible product) has been replaced by the new Pep Boys brand battery (same battery, new label?) and he didn't think they had it in stock, and had no idea when/if they'd be in stock. I told him I didn't mind switching to a better/different battery, and that I'd be willing to pay the difference (minus the warranty replacement amount) for a truly reliable replacement. He said he couldn't do anything for me without the Manager, and even with that, they only had 2 guys working, and they were already slammed (at that point it was about 9:30am), and the best I could hope for was "sometime Monday, or maybe Tuesday if they had to order it". He again suggested I simply leave my car there, and they'd get to it and call me. Granted, if he had a firm solution planned out, such as which kind of battery I need for my car, would the warranty be honored, and maybe, just maybe, how much leaving my car there until MAYBE TUESDAY was going to cost me, I might have considered it. Don't get me wrong, the kid wasn't rude or anything, and I get that his hands are kind of tied, but seriously, why open if the person required to authorize anything can't be there? read more

No remorse nor apology from representative, could not care less. At lest a phone call prior to the appointment time indicating the delay and saving me the trip. He answered all questions I had, showed me even the problem on the car, ordered the part within an hour, fixed in 15 min. The mechanic Jaime is the best mechanic I experienced. He detected the noise problem right away, pointed out the belt problem. Reasonable price. I could not be happier after being at 3 different car repair places that did not find the problem. This place is a joke. I stop by here because my low tire pressure light in my car is on. I get out and walk into the lobby and wait 10 minutes before I'm even approached. I see a young lady who clearly sees me walk in and completely ignored me! Not a hey "Someone will be right with you, nothing! The entire staff walks over and looks at this one car. Does it take everyone working to look at one car. So they telle it's gonna be a 20 minute wait to check my car. So I finally pull into the garage and the guy just put air in my tires. Customer service is alive and well at this store, and if you want to wait for your car, their waiting room is a nice and inviting environment.
