This will be twice I've tried and the system works well enough, I suppose, except the times that the system suggests are not necessarily available. I made an appointment for today, since I have to go out of town and wanted it done before I left for my son to use the vehicle. 20 minutes after making the appointment I get a call telling it's not available and they don't know how I was even able to make an appointment online. Not to be nitpicking but this makes the whole website for convenience rather inconvenient. Once, I thought it was a glitch. Twice I have to wonder what the heck I was thinking still thinking they're someone I want to do business with. Quick update. Went in a while back to get all of my tires replaced as it was the closest location that had what I needed in stock. I was told it would be a 1-hour job and so I decided to wait. Unfortunately, one of my lug nuts was on too tight was broken in the attempt to remove it (this was property communicated). Even more unfortunately thought, they had to order a replacement and so this 1-hour job turned into me waiting for several hours. I kept being told that the replacement parts would get there "soon". Go to discount, they fit a 6 spline to it and give it to me... go back the next day to get it done, leave for 1.5 hours and come back to 2 tires put on with paint facing out (old tires had paint facing in so didn't know I had to specify this again to them). Says they can't flip them then tries to tell me it should be a $300 job since my wheels have extra allen bolts. Wait another 30 min and leave. Drive to work the next morning and truck is rattling like crazy. Make an appointment with DISCOUNT TIRE so I can get the job done right. Quick check-in, 5 minutes in the guy comes to me and shows me pep boys stacked weights on top of old weights to balance it... says I should go get my money back. Replaced 4 tires, 2 break pads and rotors, and got an oil change and spent $1000. Got home and checked my oil level and it was low, check oil light was on. All 4 tires have different pressures and below the recommended pressure. No oil change reminder sticker on window and no fluids refilled. Breaks are are still squeaking I took vehicle back in and was told that the manager was out and would contact me and was never contacted back. I feel as if they just wanted to sell some tires and did not do a quality job. I question if an oil change was even completed. I do not trust this place. I would not recommend. read more

I picked up a nail and then received a flat tire on I10 and had to pull off and was able to get to a pep boys. Honestly, I wouldn't have normally stopped there, I was looking for a discount tire, none were close by. My experience has completely changed my mind. I walked in, they were prompt, greeted me immediately. I told them what happened, they grabbed the keys and I was there and out in less than 30 minutes. Keeping in mind they had other customers, this was fantastic. The crazy part, we expected to have some kind of charge, $0. Unbelievable. Not a lot of words, just all actions-which is so much better. Meeting a friend at Tempe Marketplace I hadn't seen in 15 years we chose this area as I live 25 miles north and her daughter she was visiting lives 15 miles south... leaving the restaurant I got into my car to drive home, I noticed a notification of my right rear tire had 2psi left... but thte car didn't drive like it was flat.....Obviously I couldn't get onto the highway to go home I drove a short distance to a UHaul place to get out to look at the tire. I drove back towards the Marketplace and noticed a PepBoys on the corner of Rio Salado and McClintock. RANDY said he'd take a look at it and drove it very cautiously to have a closer look. Sure enough there was a screw in the tire but with no damage to the tire, he plugged it for me right away. I wanted to tip him and had no cash, and he said don't worry. I wasn't worried but he was so helpful and kind, but I WANTED to give him something. He gave me directions to an ATM. ( which I got lost as I am not familiar with this area ) I said I'll be back and with 2 minutes to closing ...I popped back in to tip him with another thank you. So after reading all of the great reviews I got up early. The hours on the website says 7:30a, online 7:30a, on their door 7:30a. I got there at 7a. Their worker showed up around 7:10 a.m. saw me parked in front in the cold and went inside. At 7:30 a.m. I went inside shared that based upon the great reviews I choose this location and thought there might be a screw in one of my tires. The worker asked If I was going to be able to leave the car there. I was a bit puzzled because I was the only customer there. He then shared with me the first technician does not show up until 10 a.m. First of all you are setting the front line team member up for failure. Secondly where is the service? If this was known why would he not have come up to me at 7:10 a.m. letting me know this. How does your business open up at 7:30 a.m. and the technician doesn't show up until 10 a.m. please educate me on what I am missing please. read more

My A/C was blowing kinda cool air, but by no means cold. Took it in to have it inspected and was told it was low on freon, so they evacuated and recharged the system for $200. Great. Upon payment, the poerson at the desk said "Well, at least it wasn't your compressor". My car was still not blowing cold air after that, so I called to have it looked at again. They said it would be $57 for another inspection. After that inspection, they happened to find a whole slew of problems totalling up to $2,300, including compressor and other parts. It was one of the worst experiences I've ever had dealing with a mechanic. They get you in with the cheap tire prices or promotions then try to up-sell you on unnecessary fixes. I get it though. It's a good way to get people in. The crappy part was how they try to sell you on the other stuff. "If you don't do this, your wheel will fall off." I feel it's just a lousy way to prey on the public through scare tactics. Guess what. I didn't do it and my wheel is still on the car!!! On top of all that, I went into the shop at 10:50am and was promised the car at 2:00pm. That's fine, I can wait 3 hours. At 4:00 I asked what the status was and they were still finishing up the tires. At 5 they were starting the alignment. I didn't get out of the shop until 6:05pm... 4 hours after I was promised the car. Do not ever go to Pep Boys. I will never give them my business again. read more

I went in today for an oil change and because my check engine light came on this week. Not only did the employees here treat me with major respect, but they talked me through what the next steps were for the problem and promised that once I got work completed by the car dealer, they'd check that the dealer actually completed the work. For free. Plus: pulling the code, rotating my tires, and topping off my depleted window washing fluid were free of charge. And I'm pretty sure they wiped down the inside of my car. Really unsure why there aren't more 5 star reviews on here. I have gone to this Pep Boys location about 4-5 over this last year. I have been to other locations in Scottsdale and NOTHING compares to this location! They have been so professional, so fast and so great explaining issues I've had with my car(not a car person at all). I get my oil changes, brakes all that done here. They have always been honest with me and never try to sell me anything I don't need. Not to mention the last time I went in for an oil change, they fixed my overly sensitive alarm!!! If you value your life. I strongly recommend you do not ever go to this shop. I asked them to do my alignment and tighten down my tie rods which were brand new. A month later my driverside tie rod snaps. My caliper bolt was lose and tried to tell me it was on wrong before taking the tire off. Mind you I don't drive far distances. I might have put on 150 miles since my alignment in 1.5 months. They charged me for an alignment,even though I have a lifetime warranty on my car through them that I purchased last month. 1.5 weeks after they replaced my tie rod my car started to drive odd and it squealed so I took it back. They said some how my passenger side tie rod came loose but they were going to tighten it and realign it. It'll be ready that afternoon. I came after work. They said its still weird and making a sound. The next morning they said oh it's your rack and pinion now. My car traveling from Washington to AZ with no problems. They touch my car and it goes down hill. Not to mention if my rack and pinion was bad they should have caught that when they installed the new tie rod. I only drove the car 30 miles since they replaced the driverside tie rod, rack and pinions don't magically go bad in 30 miles. So now after 1000$ I no longer trust their repairs. So I drove it to another mechanics shop and let's just say the new tech asked if pep boys had a alignment machine. I told him they do. He asked if they knew how to use it because there's no way. Not to mention my bolts for my rack and pinion plus my tie rods were all lose. I feel like several times now pep boys has attempted to kill me. Imagine if I was on the highway and I could no longer stear my car. Don't worry boys I'll be talking to corporate soon. read more

The worst experience I've had with car repairs. I called in to determine if they had an availabilty. The store manager name, Jason commented he can get me in. I mentioned about my car symptoms. I stated that my car is making a rattling noise, does not start right away but eventually starts after a few tries, and makes whishing noise when I drive, when I turn my head lights on it takes a few tries to start. He said "oh it might be your starter." After I had commented that it might be my alternator. I took it in anyway because I was concerned about my car breaking down on me as I drive. When I arrived, they took me in right away, and they weren't busy at all. Literally, 5 minutes later he comes out saying "Oh yeah, it is the starter." I was like okay... first off I'm not a mechanic so I have no place to argue. He then started breaking down the price. He mentioned about giving me a discount, being an ASU student and then he charges me $400 for my starter. I then proceeded with the transaction because I had no choice and he seemed confident it was my starter. A few weeks later, my car shuts down in the middle of the freeway, so I decided to take it to my mechanic who was finally back in town. My mechanic mentioned to me that it was my alternator and I told my mechanic that I just got my started replaced and he was shocked to why I got it replace for it was my alternator to begin with. I was livid. I called Pep Boys and mentioned to them that I just got my started replaced for no apparent reason. I asked to obtain my car report stating it was my starter, the front desk person, said he will have it printed for me then I called back I will pick it up in an hour then the store manager, Jason said, "No need to pick it up, we will take our new starter and replace it with your old one if you feel you thought we cheated you." I said, "Of course!" Then I scheduled a time for them to do that, when I finally was able to schedule that, he told me that I can keep my new part and will refund me my money. THAT WAS A LIE! It has been 2 months and he still hasn't replied to me. Complete lie. Do not trust this place, they do not make car reports on your vehicle and if you ask for it, they will make excuses because it's shady. They probably never ran a dignostic test on my car and when I asked for it, they weren't able to provide. I guess I'll take this up to corporate because their technicians/workers are incompetent. read more
