I think this location suffers greatly from scheduling issues and inefficiency. That being said, this review is for the excellent performance of Candace at the front desk. She kept her cool under pressure and was very helpful, knowledgeable and down to earth. There was a very long line of people when I came to pick up my car. One "Karen" ignored the line and berated Candace about a service issue that resulted in her having to go to Big O Tires. Candace handled this person like a complete pro. Kept her cool and allowed the customer to vent and storm off. There was no way to the customer's irrational anger, Candace remained the perfect balance of listening but staying on task with the customer she had been helping. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!! Ultimate Disrespect of Your Time and Complete Liars! I am unquestionably furious with the absolute disaster of a service at this Pep Boys location. I scheduled an appointment for 12:30 PM to have 4 new tires installed. It is now 3:45 PM--over three hours later--and my car is STILL sitting in the exact same spot in the parking lot. They haven't even touched it. What makes this even more infuriating is that I actively called early this morning to confirm my appointment and explicitly ensure they had all four tires in stock. They had every opportunity to look at their schedule, realize they were backed up, and apparently "had appointments booked on top of each other", and tell me it wasn't feasible. Instead, when I arrived, the front desk associate (Robert) told me it would take "an hour or two." That was lie number one. After waiting over three hours, I went up to the desk to check on a status update. He looked me in the eye and promised it would be done in about an hour. Naturally, I walked outside 30 minutes later, and my car hadn't moved an inch. Lie number two. Fed up with the lies, I walked back inside and asked for my keys back. This employee actually acted surprised that I was leaving, and he didn't even bother to apologize for wasting my entire afternoon. Not to mention, I took the afternoon off unpaid AND crossed the bridge toll. Instead, he arrogantly told me, "Feel free to call me back if you want to reschedule," as if I would EVER step foot in that place again. Ain't nobody got time for that! If this staff had even an ounce of honesty or professionalism, they would have told me the truth from the jump. Had I been properly informed, I gladly would have rescheduled. Instead, they chose to trap me here, treating my time like it is completely worthless. This entire experience has been incredibly frustrating, disrespectful, and a massive waste of my day. The staff here are friendly, but there's a serious lack of technical and diagnostic skill. I brought my daughter's car in for an A/C system diagnostic. I had an appointment, but when I arrived, I was told they were backed up -- so that meant a long wait. After the diagnostic, the service advisor told me the compressor was bad. He even double-checked with the technician to confirm that the relays and fuses had been tested, and the technician said they were good. Fast forward -- I took the vehicle to another shop to have the compressor replaced. After installation, the A/C still didn't work. I mentioned what Pep Boys had said and asked if we could do some basic troubleshooting. Within minutes, we found a bad relay -- something that should have been tested immediately. A quick test, the technican could have easily done was I swapped the A/C relay with the fuel system relay right next to it, and sure enough, the compressor came on and the engine died 10 seconds later. Extremely frustrating experience. A simple, basic test was completely missed, leading to unnecessary expense and wasted time. Friendly people, but I won't be trusting them with diagnostics or servicing any of my vehicles. read more

Ohhhhhh man what a horrible place. I don't say this often, but Pep Boys does not want to help you. I made an appointment Sunday morning for a tire patch. Showed up early for my appointment. Somehow my name never showed up on their appointment list. Upon looking at the list myself I realized the same name, model, and issue I faced resided under the name of the person who had my phone number previously. I knew this because over the year I have had countless texts from people trying to reach them. I explained that it's unlikely to be a coincidence. The guy asked me, "did you make the appointment today?" I replied that I had scheduled it today and he proceeded to tell me "that's impossible." I pulled up the email, confirmed my appointment and I guess like Kevin Garnett said, "anything is possible." Except Pep Boys wanting to help, that's not possible. He said the nail in my tire was too close to the edge of the tire which means they can't do anything. I walked out. Got it fixed the next day by America's Tire. No issues at all. Again, no point in arguing with them. They don't want to help you. read more

Worst experience! I've used this location the last two times for tires but never again. I made a 9am appointment, drove 30mins to get there to be told that appointments don't matter that it's first come first serve! Um what?! I asked to explain that to me and the man was rude. He said he "only had one technician and he was already started on a different car that got dropped off at 8am, what do you want me to do take the car off the lift?" The behavior was shocking. He Then said his other technician won't be in until maybe 10/1030 if he's lucky! So only two techs and no honoring of appointments. I asked if I rescheduled could I call ahead of time to see how many cars would be ahead of me and he said we don't answer the phone. I was quoted $350.74 for 4 cooper adventure tires over the phone by Joe and when I went in for the service they wanted to charge me over $600. I asked to speak to a store manager and the cashier took my number for a call back but I never got a call. Then I called the customer service phone number again to file a complaint and they gave me a case # and told me a district or regional manager named Javier was going to call me but again I never got a call. I waited a few months to file this review to give them grace and get back to me but no one ever reached out. This was my first experience going to pep boys and the customer service here is terrible. This review is about an unfortunate experience I had at the shop on 4/28/2026. I brought my 2019 Honda CRV AWD in for an oil change. I was assisted by Candace. Before she went out to check my mileage, she asked me to step behind her desk and update my demographics in their system. This is not only bizarre, but also a potential data security violation. I was there behind her desk unattended while she checked my mileage. I could have been looking at other customer's information...Didn't but did update my own address in their system. When she returned, she told me that there just happened to be a screw in my left rear tire and because of the spot it was in, the tire was not repairable. Did I want to swap the tire? I supposed I had to. She said they would use the cheapest tire and asked when I needed it by. It was around 1 pm. I said 6 pm would be ideal. She said no problem. I walked back to the shop at 6 pm. My car was still in the garage with the hood up but she said it was ready. She mentioned that they had drained my battery and had to recharge it. She cashed me out and as I drove home, the low tire air pressure light went on. When I got home, I checked the tire air pressure. One of my tires had lower pressure then the others and I had to add air. Clearly they hadn't checked the air pressure of all tires during the service. I also noticed that they didn't replace the oil change sticker. Was my car even ready to leave? I recalibrated after adding air and the light went off. Then I drove my car somewhere and after a couple of miles, the TPS light went on. That is when I looked at my owner's handbook and researched on the internet. An AWD should have tires of the same specs if replacing them and within a tread depth range if one tires happens to go bad before the others. PEP Boys did not tell me this, but I consulted another shop, the internet and my co-workers and this is common knowledge. I called PEP Boys back and spoke to Candace. She responded, "Oh no. I didn't know it was an AWD. Let me talk to my manager." She called back and assured me that the tread depth matched my other tires and everything was fine, but I could bring it in, which I did after work. When I got there she said she going to call me a tow, but her manager assured her everything was good, I had recalibrated and the error light was off at that time. I asked them to give me a new oil change sticker and I left with them telling my there was probably something wrong with my sensor but it had nothing to do with the new tire. Meanwhile the error light is continuing to go on. I talked to the manager Robert and he assured me he'd been doing this a long time and everything was fine. Finally, I get down on my garage floor to compare the tire specs--size, load range, speed rating, and maximum cold pressure. None of the numbers on the new tire match my existing tire. My owner's guide states they need to match at least front and back pair. If not, my drive train and transmission could be overtaxed and my car could end up with catastrophic damage. I call back the manager Robert and read from my owner's manual and confront him with tire disparity. Again, he admits no wrongdoing and says I can come in and pay for another matching tire, no discount, nothing, just, "I've been doing this a long time, I know what I'm doing." Never going to PEP Boys again. Meanwhile, I went to another shop to arrange to have a matching tire installed. PEP Boys corporate--if you're reading this, there are serious issues with this shop. I have lodged a complaint with corporate, and my next step is small claims for a refund. WARNING--DO NOT GO THERE. THEY ARE INCOMPETENT. read more

I had an extremely disappointing experience at your Pleasant Hill location at 520 Contra Costa Blvd, Pleasant Hill, CA 94553. On Monday, February 9, 2026, I came in to schedule service for four new tires and headlight replacement. Jose assisted me and confirmed that the specific tires my car requires were in stock at that location. Based on that confirmation, we scheduled my appointment for today, February 16, 2026, at 8:30 AM. When I arrived this morning, there was already a customer ahead of me whose part could not be located anywhere in the shop. The employees were trying to reach the manager, who was not answering his phone. This was at 8:17 AM. After checking me in, Jose told me the service would take approximately two hours. I confirmed I would be waiting in the lounge, and he verified my phone number. I stepped out briefly to Ross, which is nearby, and returned after about an hour and four minutes. At that point, Jose informed me of two issues: 1. The headlights I purchased from Amazon supposedly would not work. 2. Despite confirming a week ago that all four tires were in stock, the store actually only had two. The other two would need to be brought in from another location, which would take four hours, plus additional installation time. Jose also mentioned he had been trying repeatedly to reach the manager, who still was not answering his phone. This raises several serious concerns: * Why was I scheduled for service if the tires were not actually in stock? * Why was I expected to wait four additional hours for tires that should have already been there? * Why is the manager unreachable during business hours when the staff clearly needs support? * Why is basic inventory accuracy and communication failing at this location? As someone who has worked in management, I always answered my phone when my team needed me. It is unacceptable for a manager to be unreachable while customers are waiting and employees are struggling to resolve issues. This was horrible service from start to finish. Robert is the guy to talk to!! What a great experience. I went to Les Schwab my whole life because that's where my parents went & my dad knew all about cars. I never knew a consumer had CHOICES when it came to tires. They'd tell me what I needed, & I'd buy it. So I was shocked when my bf took me to Pep Boys & it was $200 less! We took my son's car in for 4 new tires this morning, & again it was about $200 less than Les Schwab! (I later learned that Schwab employees get commission. Which I think is absolutely nuts!). I feel confident that we got a great deal & that my son is now so much safer now that he's driving around on new tires. Yesterday, I went out, and my car sensor said that the tire pressure in one of them was low. No big deal, so first I went to Costco and put air in my tires just to see if that would help. After driving around the entire day, the sensor never turned off, so I called Pep Boys to see when would be the earliest they could take a look at my tire and patch it. After looking at their schedule, they said they could take a look at my car at 3 today, and I said great, and was looking forward. Today, I went over and told them I had a 3 PM appointment. The employee asked if I owned a Honda, to which I said no, I have a different make and model. The employee said that I wasn't in their system, and I told them that I called yesterday and the employee I talked to said I was good to go at 3. The employee then pulled out a service request form, and I showed them a picture I took of my tire. The employee just dismissed it as the tire was now completely unfixable, and I would need to get a new one. Since that wasn't in my plans today, I left. I went to another repair shop, and they took a look at my tire. The employee at the other shop showed that what I thought was a nail, screw, or something else was just a patch from the last time my car had a nail in it. In all, I wasted an entire day with Pep Boys since they didn't log me in their system correctly for my appointment, and then the employee that I spoke to in-person would've charged me for a new tire that I ended up not needing. Where do I start? Like so many others have mentioned the customer service is terrible, they are perpetually understaffed and the staff they do have is ridiculously unprofessional. Theyre openly talking smack about other employees and management. I scheduled an appointment at 4pm, showed up a bit early only to be told that because someone didn't show up to work they wouldn't be able to service my car that day and that if I left it overnight it would done first thing in the morning. No one even looked at it until the next afternoon. Then there's the work, they royally screwed up a brake job, when I brought it back a week or so later to have the mistake remedied they didn't fix it and when I tried to have them fix it a third time no one would answer the phone for 2 days straight. When I went to another shop to have it fixed the new shop confirmed that although I had been charged for resurfaced rotors, the rotors were scoured as hell and hadn't been resurfaced in years, that the brake pads used were not installed correctly and the back plate wasn't reattached so it was grinding against the rotor. When I went back to Pep Boys with the old rotors to verify that they didn't do the work quoted, incorrectly installed the other parts and to request a refund for the work that wasn't done/ done incorrectly the lady managing told me that she "doesn't know how to due refunds" and refused to look a the rotors or paperwork provided from the competent shop. I was then told that a District Manager would call me which never happened. Avoid doing business with these crooks at all costs. read more

Had an appointment at 12 noon today Saturday. Spoke with Robert the manager before arriving there at 10:30am to drop off car. Robert said that I may not need major maintenance and just to do oil change, tire rotation, check battery, and he will look at the car to see if it needs major maintenance work. I get there at 10:30 and the only service person (woman) did NOT acknowledge or say "hello, I will be with you soon" or anything to me when I came in. I patiently waited 5 minutes until she called a customer to come back and talk to her and when done with that customer, she acknowledged me after a long minute pause as if she had not seen me standing there all this time. She lacked any kind of customer service skills. It took her 10 minutes to check my car not once but twice. Then another 10 minutes to quote me something I did not agree with because she was not listening to me. I asked to talk to the manager and she was rude and did not call him but went to the restroom. She then says she's certified "Something BS" and walked away towards the bathroom. How rude and ignorant of this slow working and lazy person. We purchased a battery at Pep Boys Pleasant Hill 11 months ago. Recently, we have experienced a Low Battery Warning. The battery warranty is a 48-month free replacement. I scheduled an appointment for their technician to test the battery and charging system. They found that the battery and charging system tested good ... except ... the voltage was low for an AGM battery. They would not replace the battery. Instead, they charged the battery for over an hour. Of course, the voltage is now at an acceptable voltage. The counter person said they reported to corporate, and corporate (using colorful words) would not allow the battery to be replaced. I asked the technician if they synced the BCS (battery control system) system to the battery. The technician did not know what I was talking about. read more

Lets preface this by saying my Truck barely drives. So On Thursday I make an appointment for Sunday. So I show up to my scheduled appointment on a Sunday to find out they forgot to call me and tell me that they won't have a person to do diagnostics until Tues, so We discuss the issues with my Truck and make an appointment for 9:30am Tuesday. I show up on Tuesday 30 min early for my appointment, and wait for 30 min for the person in front of me to get helped, only to find out that the person who does diagnostics called in sick. And to be told that based on the issues I was having they probably cannot do the work anyways. The worst place I have ever gone to. Turned down work, didn't even do the diagnostic, and wasted my time, and because they kept having me come back though they knew the state of the truck, and yes it died on the way home. I had called & they said they only had 1 person out there that day - is this usual for all Pep Boys? (I called a few of them). I made sure they had the tires I needed - they confirmed and set up an appointment with me the next day. When I got there, they said it would take a few hours so I hitched an Uber back home. They called a few hours later to let me know that they in fact didn't have my tires, but would call another store. I didn't hear from them for a few more hours so I called back to ask and they said they haven't had time to check. I decided to pick up my car and made a stop at Big O Tires (7 min away) where they took my car in immediately and fixed my tire in 45 minutes. I know pep boys doesn't have the best reputation but I never paid too much mind to it until now. Jesus this has been the worst experience I've ever had. Came in on Friday at opening for a simple tire rotation told me they couldn't squeeze me in that day to come Saturday. Okay no worries, come in on Saturday they say they have a technician call out but would make me and appointment for Sunday. Okay life happens. I come in on Sunday and again a technician calls out but what frustrates me is the manager is an absolute joke. Im third in line and he goes on and on to the two customers before me about how he hates his job, he doesn't get a lunch break, he has a new trainee completely unprofessional. The only way to waive your lunch is if you're an exempt employee which means you make a salary worthy of being able to waive your lunch break, second while I'm in line he gives me a call 4 minutes before my appointment. I didn't answer because I was in the lobby and it was a number I didn't recognize. Doesn't leave me a message just hangs up while I'm watching him in line. Gets to my turn and again says he won't be able to do a simple tire rotation for the third time in a row because guess what, another call out. When I ask him when this technician was suppose to be here he said 9am, it's 12pm if you knew you were going to be short why not give me a call then atleast that way I can see if anyone else can squeeze me in after you failed in this appointment but to then have the audacity to look me in my face and say well I tried notifying you. When? 4 minutes before my appointment while I'm inside your store already. An absolute joke. If your that miserable at your job than go work somewhere else but to do that infront of your trainee while simultaneously saying it's hard to find good workers is the most silly thing I've ever witnessed. read more

I'm bummed I have to give this place a not-so-great review, but I'm doing so based on my overall experience. Firstly, the customer service representatives were very kind, but my vehicle's scheduling was very poorly managed. I arrived toward the end of August during a promotion for AC evaluations with a pre-scheduled appointment. The technician who specializes in AC evaluations was on vacation so I was told to return the following week for service. I then got re-scheduled in person, and returned a few days later for servicing. That day, I dropped my car off at 9am and was told it would only take about 2-3 hours for the service to be complete. I was with my newborn so I decided to kill time after waiting in the shop for 1 hour. After a while, I didn't receive any updates about my vehicle and called maybe 4 hours in to try and get an update on my own. At that point, my car hadn't been seen yet in 4 hours. I returned at the 6 hour mark and they still hadn't been able to get to my car, letting me know that the AC tech would be leaving within 1 hour and wouldn't be able to get to my car, so they rescheduled me again. So in total, I had to return to pep boys 3 times - The first time I arrived, I was unable to be seen and re-scheduled for the following week. The second time I arrived during my re-scheduled appointment, my car was dropped off in the morning and still was not able to be looked at. I waited for 6 hours without an update, and called and then returned in person to check in on my car and it still had not been seen. I was then rescheduled for the third time for an appointment. Again this was super inconvenient and frustrating, especially because I had a newborn with me. In all, it shouldn't have taken 3 appointments for my car to be seen. If there were too many vehicles booked beforehand, that should have been noted and I should have been pushed to a different day from the beginning to save me the headache of running back and forth and waiting around for 6 hours during the second appointment! My car was serviced during the third appointment and I had a better experience that day. One of the service advisors, named Jennifer was very kind when I came in to pick up my car. I really appreciated her compassion with my situation overall and that she went above and beyond to assist me to honor the coupon I initially came in with for the AC evaluation the previous week. However, I do feel like from the beginning, my time was not respected at all. As mentioned, it shouldn't have taken me 3 separate appointments for my car to be seen when scheduled for maintenance. My vehicle's AC works nicely now but man, that experience overall was pretty rough. read more

My battery died in my vehicle so I swung by to get a new one and they wouldn't accept my coupon because I didn't make a reservation. Fine. Fast forward to an oil change at valvoline and the technician noticed that my battery was not secure because the strap broke off because I was sold a better that was too small for the tray which caused it to break off. Thankfully, Valvoline caught it and they were even kind enough to run down to O'Reilly's to grab a new battery harness and install it along with a properly sized battery. Never again will I visit a Pep Boys. read more

I asked if we should go to another store because it seems like you can't help us. He walked out of the door and waved at us to leave. Was very rude snapped at my for asking to get help. I have used Pep Boys in Pleasant Hill for nearly 20 years because I received good service up until now. I don't know if it's the management or corporate changes. On Jan. 4th I called for a price on a brake job on my 2017 GMC 1500 and was told $209 per axle. I was headed out of town on a road trip in a few days so set first appointment on 01/05/24. After arriving they told me I needed rotors so it would be over $1300. They then said since I was a loyal customer they would do it for $1183; I agreed and they did the job. Then today, 3/20/24, I had Valvoline change my oil and was told the brake fluid was low and they can't top it off so I went back to Pepboys to have them take a look. They said it's not at max level but they could do a brake fluid change for me for $69.99. Then was told can't top off the fluid and they don't do brake fluid top offs or changes when they do a brake job. Worst automotive service I've ever encountered. Don't take a chance. Jim W. Autozone and Oriley right across the street and do a waaay better job. Here is the story: The light bulb I needed was $15 more expensive than same model from Amazon. But, they seemingly had a $15 rebate on it. So I decided to proceed and give them a business. Associate misled me that item had a rebate (apparently different, more expensive model had a rebate, not the one I was planning to buy). Secondary, associate never mentioned return policy of the item I am buying, and return policy was not printed on a check. I bought an item and submitted the rebate to the manufacturer. Rebate was declined. I kind of expected that so I brought un-opened item back to the store to return within 3 weeks. Store manager said item is not returnable because of the policy. He pointed to a small print in the policy somewhere in the store and retired to a different register. Nothing. He does not want to talk about it. I followed him to his new register and asked why associate did not educate me during the sale 3 weeks ago that item is not returnable. He looked into my reciept and said the associate is no longer with the company. Retired to a different register again. I followed him again and I asked why return policy is not printed on the check. He again pointed to a small print within the store and again retired to a different register. Overall 2 touch points with them and 4 disasters in customer service: 1) Associate did not explain return policy during purchase. 2) Return policy is not on the receipt. 3) Associate wrongly convinced me about non valid rebate. 4) Manager was rude, never acknowledged wrong doing. 5) Manager was not collaborative at all to solve the problem. I did a walk-in for a basic oil change and a tire repair because one of my tires had a screw in it. Online they were fully booked with appointments so I took my chances with a walk-in and they were able to take me. I was in and out in about 45 minutes. Stephen at the front desk was extremely helpful and super patient with me and got me in And out! Stephen was super awesome and super informative with a couple of other questions that I had. He made it a very quick and painless experience! definitely appreciate the mechanics. They were very sorrel with the check of my vehicle. read more

I am finished with this company after encountering flat out rude service two weeks ago from a front counter staff member. Just as a little background, I used to patronize this establishment prior to their acquisition by Advantage Auto Parts because a couple of close acquaintances worked there. At the time, the environment felt like extended family. But this time around, their staff clearly seemed unmotivated and did not rotate my front tires to the rear after I ordered two replacement front tires. During my previous experience with that same branch two years ago, they rotated the front tires at that time to the rear. I was disappointed they didn't rotate these new tires I had installed this time. To their credit, I was greeted by one of their service technicians in the parking lot and directed inside. But once inside, this long haired service associate claimed to not have my appointment in the computer (the service appointment I had set up the day before). He seemed annoyed to have to pull out a blank service form and fill it out with my vital statistics. The greeter had a form indicating a Camry in need of tires and an oil change (apparently he thought I was the other Camry in the service bay). But "D" (the counter associate) copped a 'tude and did not greet me in a timely fashion when I entered the shop. Needless to say, I returned to pick up my car and was shocked to find they had not rotated the new tires to the rear axle, nor did they ask or telephone me to see if I wanted a rotation. They did not make me aware of their free tire rotation. So this last weekend I ended up at another branch in a different city correcting the lack of attention to detail of the Unpleasant Hill location. This other branch employed service technicians and associates that were a lot friendlier. I suspect Advantage Auto Parts (owned by Carl Icahn) pays really low wages to their employees, resulting in poor quality service and negative attitudes. In fact, the manager at the other Pep Boys didn't greet me or seem friendly to me because I just went in for a free tire rotation. If you need involved services, seek out a local shop and resist the temptation of online coupons. I am posting this because their post visit email survey addressed areas that I found lacking, such as courtesy and friendliness. I had to drive for a week with new front tires causing drift from side to side. It's a potential safety issue and that's why I'm very unhappy with the service this branch provided. read more
